This year for Thanksgiving we wanted to try something different. We found out about The Caspian restaurant. We have unique eaters and different taste in our family. So we chose the "wild caught" salmon (make sure), chicken (Breast) and (thigh) much juicer of course and the delicious Beef Kobideh. As our sides we had delicious Saffron Rice, vegetables, hummus, cucumber yogurt, Dolma, and Baba Ghanush , oh and of course the moist Falafel - perfectly crisp outside and inside just pure deliciousness. Came here with my daughter for the first time today after craving for Persian cuisine. We ordered the Falafel starter and a combination of Lamb racks/beef kabobs. My daughter is a difficult eater and I'm glad that she enjoyed the food. Food were very tasty, lamb racks were tender and grilled just right, the kabobs were juicy and flavorful. Caspian definitely qualifies as a hidden gem. It's tucked away in an older strip mall. The food is really delicious. We kicked things off with the hummus sampler. It comes with three kinds of hummus and two kinds of greek yogurt. The yogurt was thick and creamy and quite delicious. I particularly liked the shallot yogurt. They kind of skimped on the pita, especially considering there were four of us, but were happy to bring extra when we requested it. My falafel was good. The falafel itself wasn't too dry on and the portion size was just right. My lunch companions had the veggie kabab, Mediterranean sampler and one of the stews. The portion size, particularly on the sampler, was huge. Everything was fresh and it all smelled amazing. This is a terrific spot to take a crowd with divergent food interests. there were numerous vegan and vegetarian options. None of us had a meat kabob, but it the food at the next table over was any indication, they are likely delicious. The Turkish coffee machine was down, so I was a little disappointed. We decided to stop here for dinner, as I was craving Persian food, since there aren't too many authentic Persian restaurants in the NYC region. For a group of 4, we ordered the Baba Ganoush (mashed cooked eggplant mixed with tahini, olive oil, and various seasonings) as an appetizer, and the Lamb Fillet Kabob (Barreh) and the Chicken Kabob (Jooje Kabob) for our entrees. Note to self: one of the entree platters is enough to feed 2 people. The baba ganoush was really good, especially with that tender warm pita they gave us. Both the lamb and chicken were tender and juicy. The lamb and chicken were well seasoned and the seasoning was not overpowering - you could taste the gaminess of the lamb. The grilled vegetables that accompanied the kabobs were grilled to perfection and the rice was also cooked perfectly. As for dessert, we ordered the saffron ice cream and Baklava. My personal favorite was the saffron ice cream. I love the unique flavor. The Baklava was OK. If ever in the Mountain View area again, I'll be sure to hit up this spot again. read more

Wow, wow, and wow! We just picked up food from Caspian, and I'm writing this review as I'm swallowing my last bite! And OMG, yum yum. Baghali Polo with Mahiche (lamb shank) is mouthwatering! Well-cooked and seasoned, definitely on my list for future orders. The Soltani dish (Koobideh and barg) is hands down delicious. Perfect chewiness and a spectacular taste. Last but not least, the Chicken Soltani: omg, omg, omg! Try this with Zereshk polo if you like a little tartness, you'll love it. We looked forward to trying Caspian for the last few months because of Yelp review but didn't get a chance because of distance. Today we decided this should be the D-day. We planned our day to run a few errands from morning to noon, then pick up my in-law to go to this restaurant. After driving over an hour and got here 2:30 pm for a late lunch we were told that they were already closed. Already closed??!! The neon sign said that they were open and there were still a few customers in the restaurant. At the time when this review is written, their own website clearly indicates that they close at 3:30pm. Restaurants usually close early for good reasons and made effort to explain to customers. Equipment breakdown. Shift staff not showing up. Power blackout. Whatever. They usually do give a polite reason for why they can't open on time or have to close early. No profuse apology is needed. Just a simple explanation. The staff (or manager?) of this lovely looking restaurant did not give any reason other than shouting that they were close and waved their hands to shoo us away. Well, they have every right to close randomly whenever it's convenient for them, not respecting the info on their own website. They have every right to choose to have low customer service level. We understand that. Legit Persian. I live in a town where Afghan food is on FIYAH. So I have made the kabob plate a staple and comfort food for me. Persians also does kabob plates, but in a much more subtle way. The marinades for the meats aren't so garlic-y, but still quite enjoyable. Decided to skip on an appetizer as these kabob plates are so darn hefty, that I often am defeated by the portion sizing. But after a couple of minutes after placing our order, a very nice wooden plank arrives with 4 small ramekins of sauces/dips and some cut up pita bread. I thought it was brought out by mistake since we didn't order it, but the mild mannered bus person confirmed it was a complimentary part of their table service. Total Score! One was a flavorful hummus, another a pureed eggplant much like babaghanoush. Another yogurt cucumber condiment and another some pungent creamy garlic sauce. All were good especially with that tender warm pita (which is so money), but proved more worthy with the actual meal as an over-the-top condiment option. Took bites from a Filet Mignon/Chicken Combo ($25/5*). The filet is not how Americans are used to looking at it. Instead of a thick piece of meat, Persians slice it thin, so it will have no med-rareness. Even though thoroughly cooked, it is never dry. The chicken was super moist, even being breast pieces. The yellow marinade is perfect for charred chicken. I got the Lamb/Koodibeh Combo ($25/5*). The lamb was uniformly cut and slightly thicker than the filet pieces. Even though charred on the exterior, the meat itself was really light. I have a feeling they may slightly blanch/cook the lamb first, then they skewer and grill it. I also say that because the lamb flavor was really mild/muted. Not a bad thing entirely, but if nobody told you it was lamb, you may not be able to guess. This was great with their strong garlic sauce though. The Koodibeh (ground meat kabob) is probably the best I've ever had. Super tender yet with good spring. Perfectly salted and spicing was uniquely Persian. Definitely had an onion flavor and way less garlic than Afghan versions. I will get this every time I visit here and is so perfect with their fluffy basmati rice. The grilled veggies that come on the kabobs are perfectly charred, which intensifies the flavors. A whole grilled roma tomato also is on every kabob plate, which is very Persian. I smush mine into my rice and allow the grilled juices to intermingle with the basmati, friggin awesome. A shaker of sumac is table side which reaffirms the legitness of this place. The place gets busy and the service can get a bit off track, but they are incredibly friendly that the slow pockets do not affect me. I don't eat kabobs when I'm in a time crunch and it's always served me well for doing so. Can't wait to come back. read more

On a recent trip to the area, we, a threesome, discovered Caspian. The location is a good size with ample tables. We were greeted by Brian, who explained the restaurant has been in operation only for 9 months. He guided us through the menu and helped us select: the hummus sampler with pita bread, the stew sampler, and orders of salmon and beef kebab. Brian treated us to greek salad. When the food, we were impressed with the aroma and presentation. The food was delicious and plentiful, and we enjoyed our meal. We were happy with our meal, and the attention of the staff. House wine! Cabernet, Merlot, Chardonnay? Don't know, it's "house wine". After seeing that I ran next door and bought a good bottle of wine, they don't have wine yet they wanted to charge me $35.00 for corkage! I usually don't eat Persian food for lunch as I need a nap after and it just takes too long but today I was craving a Soltani so I thought I give Caspian a try as I had their koobideh at Vasona Park couple weeks ago. Very rarely do I rate a restaurant 5 stars. That means the food, service, and ambiance was perfect and that just how I would rate Caspian. I have ate all the owners restaurants the past 15 years or so and this one for sure has been the best food. Food: hummus and mast khiar was given for free while waiting for food. Since when does any Persian restaurant offer ANYTHING for free...? The kabobs were perfectly cooked. Koobideh was just right, not burnt and the barg had the perfect pink in the middle! Ambiance: I hate eating at most Persian restaurants because they are boring and dull. Like a depressing funeral. This place had a casual cafe atmosphere which was great for lunch! The water was service with mint in a nice cups unlike most boring Persian restaurant as well as modern dishes. Service: service was excellent, the lady asked for my name. Made it very personal touch. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times, when they first opened and recently with my family after covid and dining opened up again. We ate outside on the cute patio area. We ordered kashke bademjoon as an appetizer and kabob entrees for each of us. I noticed the price increase on the menu since the last visit but it's understandable given the Mountain View location and difficulties in the restaurant industry trying to stay open during the pandemic. Presentation and flavor has improved recently and hopefully they stay that way. Friendly and attentive service but they didn't bring out the fresh herbs and raw onions! First timers here and I have no idea how I EVER missed this place. Don't let the unassuming strip shopping spot fool you, this restaurant is the BUSINESS. I have eaten dolmas many times and nothing compares to what they serve here. We had the combination lamb and chicken kabobs and they were moist and full of flavor. Really good find, located right next to World Market. They recently renovated, and this is probably one of my favorite Mediterranean restaurants nearby. For appetizers, they have complimentary pita bread and hummus, and the hummus is absolutely delicious. It's not too salty and it's very thick and tasty. The pita bread is also soft, but slightly wished it came out warmed up. I tried their falafel plate, which was presented nicely with salad, more hummus and falafel. I also recommend their plates-- the chicken is soft, tender, and not too salty. I will definitely be coming here when I have a hummus craving with some delicious meat.
