I think that I prefer Afghan and Indian plates given the stronger spice profile that they offer, particularly in the rice. This review seems hard to write considering the people were nice here. We came in for lunch on a weekday. For appetizer we ordered kashk bademjoon and salad shirazi. They were both pretty good and I'd recommend to order if you slip in here. I will say though the pita bread was the worst part of this place. This is the first Persian restaurant I've been to that doesn't make their own nann to serve. We ordered some kabob plates and we both were disappointed. Now to set this up so I don't seem like a jerk. My husband is Persian and we eat home cooked Persian food often with his family. So I'd say we have some expectations. I couldn't recommend going to Caspian Grill. They do have lots of vegetarian options. The yogurt dip was really nice and the eggplant plate was flavorful if uninspired. We really wanted to get a lamb and chicken dish but we were advised substitutions were not allowed, even for additional cost. We ended up getting a third entree for two of us and the lamb was the best thing we had. The beets appetizer was nice and smokey but covered with too much feta. I drove almost an hour to eat at Caspian Grill because online my wife and I noticed they had a vast vegetarian menu. We walked to to the restaurant with smiles on our faces ready to try a new adventrue at Caspian Grill. However, we were greeted with a frown. The lady told us that everything will be served in styrofoam and asked it we would have a problem with it. I told her "No problem". The menus were on the table, so I asked the lady for more details about the food items and entrees. She told us just to go look it up online. So I did my homework and looked it up online, but I still had more questions. Again, I tried asking her a question about the menu, but she was very irritated with me and she ignored me to go do something else. At that point I knew I was not welcomed. I knew if you did not care about me as a person, then I know how much less you even care about the care of food. My wife and I just decided to leave. To the owner, how can you not care to even help us with our order after we traveled almost an hour to eat there? We were so excited to try your restaurant. We showed you respect and support by trying your place and you could not even take the time to speak a word to help us with our selection, totally disrespectful! read more

This is one of my favorite places for lunch in North Austin. It's a really nice and spacious family run restaurant, with mediterranean decor, great music and really polite serving staff. A hidden gem! Great Mediterranean food! We came at lunch and enjoyed their lunch menu. I had their lentil soup and Greek salad. My friends had the ground beef kabob plate and the chicken shawarma salad. I tasted their dishes and was blown away by the perfect seasoning. My boyfriend and I ate lunch here and words cannot do justice to how much we enjoyed the food, the staff, and the service. We had the eggplant appetizer with pita (incredible) the chicken kebab with almond, pistachios, and berries (also wonderful) my favorite was the ground beef kebab. You can taste the love that goes into each dish, the authentic spices, fresh ingredients, and FLAVOR! I would recommend this to all of my friends especially because of how kind and attentive the owner was. The tea was always hot and filled up, the server smiled and checked on us often. There is no cream or milk for your coffee, so don't bother ordering it. They only have Coffee Mate, (which the waitress did not understand was not real). This is not a place for coffee connoisseurs. This was my first experience at this restaurant. I ordered koobideh and chicken kebab. The koobideh was so dry and tasteless. It just looked like a long pipe made of meat which tasted more like bread than meat with no spice. The koobideh is not made like what they make it. Please try other accredited places to see how it is prepared. The rice was just grade 4 and not of a real good rice we tried. Instead of saffron, they added just turmeric to give it another color . I am surprised why the owner himself didn't try the food before delivering it to customers. I have tried so many other Persian restaurants allvarounf U.S. without any doubt this one is the worst I have tried. Sadly, I am not going to recommend it to any of my friends and I think they should check the quality before they lose bussiness. read more

Unassuming place in a little strip mall on the highway. We went on a weird hour on Saturday and were the only ones there. There was a mess on the floor around two of the tables that hadn't been cleaned up. Weird and bad first impression. The only waiter at the premises was a young guy, very courteous. We ordered the lamb shank (it was excellent) and the kebab (it was excellent). Really, delicious. Price was fair too. Before placing the order I asked the waitress to make it "extra spicy" and she replied saying "we have hot sauce" it was alarming because what restaurant doesn't have red pepper in the back? I mean really. I always get my beef koobideh extra spicy, with extra tomato and grilled onion at my local restaurant in Houston. Anyways, I proceeded to place my order of beef koobideh and chicken kabobs, both were bland and dry. Rice had no flavor. The crowd seems like older folks with sensitive taste buds or something. We stopped in here after the Spartan Race. I got the KB3 which includes a chicken and ground beef kabob. Although the seasoning was different from any other Mediterranean restaurant I have been to, I really liked it. The meat was flavorful and not dry. The rice was cooked perfectly. The only thing I didn't love was the dressing on the salad, but I think it's just personal preference. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and the staff was very friendly. I love this place. When we moved from Houston and would visit Caspian Cafe, we were hoping to find a Persian restaurant. Yelp kept showing lower rated restaurants until finally this one popped up. The owner is very kind and visits with his customers. The food is hot and delicious. I just wish that the ice tea was mango ice tea. For some reason, it just goes well with Persian food being that many dishes contain berries and their ice cream will sometimes contain pistachios (or I think that's what was in mine). My lamb fell off the bone. My sabzi polo (doll rice) was flavorful and fluffy. The ambiance is delightful and relaxing. Art on the walls, Persian rugs, cool inside. I'll always be back for more.
