Holy hell guys. I wasn't expecting a whole lot from a pizza place that serves breakfast. This place is amaze balls! The country fried steak was amazing, portions bigger than Santa's belly! The fried potatoes were seasoned by the gods! The biscuits. Holy hell. Best biscuit I've ever eaten! The prices are almost too affordable! 2 dollars for a mimosa?!?!? Sign me up! I only had 2 so this review isn't bias. Seriously guys. Go here, and nowhere else! If there breakfast is this good, I can't imagine what the pizza is like! I'll let you guys know later! Go here! Amazing customer service ! Traveling all day from Los Ángeles to Oregon for a wedding. We arrived late in town due to road closure bc of resent massive fires that affected the area. We checked into our hotel nearby and walked next door to a restaurant near our hotel. They were closing and wouldn't serve us (and other families not with our party). Scrambling to find a place to eat (around 8: 50pm) we walked back to our hotel (Best Western). The hotel desk attendant called The Ale house. They were closing in 5 minutes and said they would wait for us to arrive !! We hurried over. When We arrived, we were welcomed, not rushed and were served a delicious meal. We had the soft freshly baked pretzel, cup of salmon chowder (amazing) and one of their specialty fresh baked pizzas. The locals there were super chill and we had a warm tasty meal after a super long day of travel. Great way to welcome visitors to town. read more

Very good and very affordable. We are tourists and getting tired of everyone trying to make up their yearly salary on us. Stopped in after checking out the overpriced fish place across the street. So glad we did. They seated us promptly and were very nice. Food was affordable. It is hot and pretty good. Not necessarily the best. $5 for a kids meal is almost as good as Costco hotdogs. For tourists definitely check this place out. At least look at the menu. We have kids and they even turned the music down without us asking. Although we would prefer some loud rock. read more

Veggie burger was underwhelming. I'm a firm believer that the veggies are as important as the patty. To be fair the tofurkey patty was great, but the 2 slices of pickles, small piece of lettuce, and singular small slice of tomato didn't make for a good $9.50 burger. Tip: The establishment won't make substitutions and additions cost an extra 0.50-$2.00. Fountain drinks and fries cost an additional $2.00 EACH. read more

My daughter had the Columbia pizza. I tried it and it was great! I had the turkey sandwich, which was on a sourdough baguette. It was a hot sandwich, crispy yet soft in the middle! It was AMAZING! The Italian vinaigrette had their famous horseradish in it and it was great!!! If I had room in my suitcase I'd be taking a jar of that stuff home with me!!!! read more

We saw this place on our way through town to The Dalles and thought it looked like a place we should stop but they were closed. Several days later we were headed back home and were staying just across the street so we stopped in for dinner - so glad we did! The Salmon Chowder is amazing! We really liked the sandwiches we ordered too, especially the sweet spicy flavor of the Caribbean Chicken one. Service was great too. It is a bar style atmosphere, a little dark inside, so if that isn't your thing this might not be your place. Overall we really enjoyed it and we will visit again soon! read more

We are asian, stick out like sore thumbs, have 4 kids and a grandmother. They promptly got us a table for 7. Food is a good deal, even kids meals at 5 each. Get pretze sticks...so good. The only reason I'm reviewing this place is because it was weird...just plain weird I tell ya! We could see the "OPEN" sign on the door, we could see the neon "OPEN" sign in the window, we could see a guy sitting in the window with the neon "OPEN" sign in it, we could even see the lights on...but apparently they were just kidding because they were really CLOSED. If the lights are on, the OPEN shingle hung out and a guy is peering at you from within, you really should be OPEN...its not nice to fool hungry *potential* guests' Just sayin' read more

We have had pizza several times and each time the pizza quality has gone down, We go back hoping it will be as good as it was the first time there. No luck. We were there yesterday and as I told the wait person, it was the worst we have had. Starting with the sauce, there was very little on the paper thin crust, very few paper thin slices of green pepper and and onion. I would guess two tablespoons of sausage. Apparently the least expensive topping is cheese, there was enough for three pizzas, thick and goby. The topping wasn't spread to the edges of the pie so there was at least three inches of bare crust. My husband insisted he pay for it but when he settled the bill he was told it was removed. Nice of them but we won't be back I would have given no stars if possible. read more

Location, Location, Location! I always felt that Cascade Locks was severely missing better food options, and Cascade Locks Ale House filled it. Lots of great crap on the walls, you can spend some time looking at all the old photos and maps of the area. The waitress was very sweet and fast, even though she was the only one working during the dinner rush. We were just interested in coffee and Sodas, so I can't say anything about the food, except that the pizza looked and smelled delicious! Next time we drive through we will stop for lunch. read more

We are from out of state and stopped here after hiking the area's waterfalls. That was last year and I have been wanting their food ever since and we finally made it back a year later. The salmon chowder is my favorite. Very flavorful and homemade and filling. I love the amount of potatoes and salmon in it. The antipasta plate is really good and I love to have it with a beer. The jalapeño cheese bread is very filling and very tasty. Everything I've eaten from here is hood! Although we did take out this time, I love to eat inside and look at the old pictures hanging on the walls. It used to be a boarding house/brothel and the upstairs is said to be haunted. Even the owner won't go up there alone. You need to check out this place. Great food and a great story with a little piece of history. read more

Right off the bat, I am giving the Ale House in Cascade Lock, Oregon 5-stars! A great little place for an excellent sandwich and a glass of dark oatmeal beer that complimented the meal. The servers were personable and of course there was an 'ole-timer' there to serve up a history lesson or give traveling information to sight-seers. I do not know if I was extra hungry from working up an apatite walking up the incline to Multnomah Falls or eating the forbidden sandwich removed from my diet but I inhaled the best turkey sandwich served on fresh sour dough bread that I have had. The high quality and freshness of the meat, dressings and condiments showed the pride taken to making their customers eating experience memorable and happy...Causing one to list the Ale House on their 'To Do' list for future visits. We continued over to the Washington side of the Bridge of the God's having enjoying the rich history and culture of the native Indians of the Cascade Locks , walking over to the island before returning home through Stevenson, Washington down the Scenic Highway back to beautiful West Linn, Oregon. read more

So I was craving pizza for awhile now and stumbled across this place in town. Everyone working there was nice and helpful the moment I walked in the door. The reason I give 2 stars is because the pizza was completely burnt. I'm not sure if this is their style of pizza but to me it tasted like a straight up burnt cheese pizza. We went here after a nice trip to Hood River and really enjoyed it. It's a quaint little spot that serves really good food. I started with the salmon chowder which was only 6 or so dollars. It was creamy and had small chunks of salmon. Really tasty. For our entree we shared a large pizza. It was 24 dollars but definitely enough for both of us with left overs. You can either get a small or large. We got a half double pepperoni and trail head. It was great! The only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is because it was a little pricey. Overall though we enjoyed our first experience! read more

Everything about this place has my GERD senses tingling. I'm always afraid when there are zero customers or one customer. It is only 1140 and I am in a town populated by 1149 people. By the look the one and only customer gave me ; I'm guessing folks like myself don't roll through here to often. A second concern. The waitress is at the bar talking to the customer and I overheard her say how many times ownership of this place has turned over. Concern #3. So just finished eating. The food was pretty good...considering all of my pre-judging. I ordered a sandwich and it was on fresh bread. I really like sandwiches on good bread. I really do. Fries were good! I really like fries. I really do. Service was good. I like that they asked for ID when paying with a credit card. I like the candy with the bill. I've know this little spot for quite a while, solid menu with no attitude service. I return because of this. I did have a recent unusual experience that could have left me questioning my next visit. Nothing to do with thisr service or my meal, but more entitled tourist customers. Cascade Locks manager didn't let that happen. She and her lead server both made the extra effort...much appreciated. We stopped in Cascade Locks on our way home from Hood River, and we were looking for a place for lunch. Since we were unfamiliar with Cascade Locks, we took our chance on Cascade Locks Ale House. It was right at 1:30 when we walked in the door. We appeared to be the only patrons eating. There were three or four people at the bar. They seemed surprised to see us, as if it were strange that non-locals walked into the door. The waitress that seated us seemed friendly enough, though the bartender seemed to be a more friendly person. We ordered pizza for my son, I got a burger, and my wife got the soup special with Rosie's bread. My wife let me taste the soup, and it was just ok. I think that with a little more seasoning, it could have been outstanding. The Rosie's bread looks like it was a store bought hoagie roll with some toppings thrown on it. The Rosie's bread was ok, but It just needs something a little extra. The burger wasn't anything special either. The patty seemed like it had been previously frozen, which is ok for a backyard bbq but it is not ok for a restaraunt. Making your own hamburger patties take about a minute at most, and it can really change the taste of a burger. A bag's of Tim's potato chips came with the burger, or I could add beer battered fries for about 2 dollars more. While I applaud their support of a local company, they could have made their own chips, or offered the choice of fries or chips at the same cost, with a potato slicer and a deep frier. The pizza seemed to be the only thing worth ordering here. It appeared to be freshly made, and was very tasty. My recommendation is to avoid the soup and burgers, and only order the pizza. Let's circle back to the reason that I mentioned the time that we walked in the door, and the utter lack of patrons eating food here. As stated, we walked in at 130, and were immediately seated. The waitress, who seemed nervouse to talk with us, took our order about 5 to 10 minutes later. She said that my son's pizza would be out first, which seemed an odd statement for her to make, as pizza should take longer than the soup or the burger. The pizza came out about 2:10, or about half an hour after we placed the order for it, and true to her word, the burger and soup came abot 10 minutes later. When we placed the order, she said that the soup was just ready now, which at most places would mean that it was simmering on low in the back. I can think of no concievable reason why a bowl of soup and a hamburger should take 40 minutes to prepare in an empty restaraunt. Needless to say, we were less than impressed with the food or the service, and we will not be back, nor will we recommend this place to others. read more

We stopped in after an afternoon hike for a few beers and lunch. The beers were cold and the service was great but the food was terrible... I had a italano sammich that had more lettuce than meat on it, my partner got a hamburger that was very dry. I would recommend this place for beers but never for food! read more

Customer service here is really good. Our waitress came and checked on us several times but not bugging us. This seems like a good local gathering place. However, this place would be so much more awesome if it were made more gathering friendly. For example: a game in there or have like decks of cards people can play or board games. Maybe do family events where they play games. Cascade Locks really needs a place kids and adults can go and have fun and relax and be entertained. There was a lot of space here and I feel you could totally utilize in an inexpensive way that brings locals together and gives them something to do. Live music would be pretty awesome too. The design and decoration are super nice. The smells draw you in and the view is very nice. They have a kid menu and beer on tap. Everyone was friendly. The outdoor seating doesn't look bad either. read more

We stayed at the local KOA and wanted a quick dinner. The Ale House was are only option.. We ordered take out. They were prompt when we arrived to pick up our pizza and side salad. The rating on the pizza would be a 2 if it was on a scale of 1 to 5. If they improved the quality of the pizza even the locals would WANT TO COME HERE! The place is cute and the people are very nice. The small Columbian Pizza was $17. For what you get it should have been $7. Not much stuff and it is very bland.. Sorry guys! But quality is so important.. This is an old building that is funky and musty smelling.* Perhaps this is due to the age of the building and the location by the Columbia River. I ordered the philly cheesesteak sandwich with french fries. the steak was chopped and greasy. The toasted bun was good. The fries had too much salt. The service was adequate. The best restaurants are across the river in Stevenson. * I first went to Cascade Inn. The place looks old but okay and the menu was on the pricey side. The place smelled musty so I left. read more

This place is a mess. We've been coming here occasionally for a few years, if only because they have beer on tap and the food is edible. But as of our most recent visit, I'd sooner drive an hour out of my way on an empty stomach than eat (or even drink) here again. I'd been eating off the sandwich section of the menu for a couple of visits but decided that the Fourth of July called for a burger. What a mistake. You'd expect the burger to be the standout of a provincial hash house like this, but you'd be mistaken here. The puck plonked, I'm nearly certain, straight from a freezer bag to the griddle, where it was slowly dried to the consistency of ground latex. The obligatory, shriveled green leaf and lifeless tomato slice were like wilted flowers for a neglected grave. The fries are pretty good, satisfactorily crisp anyway, but the salad has been in the bag for more than a little too long. Only the sturdiest of greens had survived, and even some of those were on their way to compost. The waitress was friendly enough, but who is this creepy trasher stomping around on the back patio, occasionally letting his(?) sugar-addled kid into the kitchen door, from whence she crashed her way into and through the dining room like a terrier on meth? Clearly management has changed yet again, and this time for the very worst. Someone is clearly trying, as evidenced by the newly-planted lavender starts, hop vines, and arbor-shaded patio going in, but they need to step it up if this place is going to survive. It would be a shame for it to disappear since the old building and location have plenty of potential. read more

I stopped by here after hiking in the Gorge, and quickly realized I was not the only one with that idea. The service was EXCELLENT and the waitress was attentive, personable, and knowledgeable about the menu. I got the Jamaican Bacon pizza which disappeared at an alarming rate (it was that good!) They had a nice selection of local brews and the waitress made good recommendations. My only complaint is that the beer sign was out of the way and posted over another table, so we had a slightly uncomfortable moment of staring over their heads as we made our selection. That said, I think the waitress could have told us everything they had if we truly didn't want to read the sign. Great beer, great food, great service. This place is a new favorite! read more

An average ale house. Has that classic pub feel to it and the pricing is common to those of most bars you may come across. Alright prices for the beer and a little too high price for the food. My friends got some beers (I don't drink personally, so I can't say much about the quality) and we ordered Jamaican pizza. And so the pizza was "Average". It wasn't a complete disappointment, but neither was it great. It was just that, you know. Average. They're open for breakfast on the weekends, which apparently has not been updated by Yelp. Anyway, we didn't have a lot of expectations for this place when it came to breakfast since it's a pizza place. I was SO wrong. I ordered the traditional breakfast for $8.50 and it's huge. The potatoes have this amazing spice blend on them and are delectable. I'm a sausage girl (that only sounds dirty), and I was THRILLED with the house-made sausage patty; it's is like nothing I've ever had. Everything was delectable. The service is also wonderful; we had lovely and personable server who made our visit even better. We visit Cascade Locks every year for the Bridge of the Gods run, and this will be our go-to place for breakfast from now on. We can't wait to see what they do with pizza. We've eaten here twice. Both times the meal rated a 5, service 2 mostly because they are just so slow. I had the Caribbean with fries one time, the cheese steak the other. Both were very good. A nice baguette style of bun. The beer batter fries are very good also. They seem to pay attention to their ingredients as evidenced by their horseradish that is made especially for them. Can't speak to their beers as we were on road trips and couldn't partake. If you have some time, it is very good food. If you are in a hurry, you might want to try something else. Just visited again in Sept 2015. Service was much faster and the food was still great. Had a pallet jack IPA which is a very good beer along with the standard cheese steak.
