El Rio Texicantina - Michelada - Mexican Near Me - Stevenson, Washington

I love a good Mexican restaurant, and El Rio has been a favorite for a long time. We often stop here after soaking at Carson, love the food, the service is always great, the margaritas are delicious. Everything I want in a Mexican restaurant, good chips, hot but not too hot salsa, decent beans and rice and a couple of fun items on the menu. Yes, the blue corn enchiladas are the thing, but everything is good. read more

Our food tasted fresh and portions were quite big. Our server was Brittney and she was just great . The place is small with a charming atmosphere. We ordered Rio burrito, Ala Cart burrito and pineapple coleslaw. Yum . read more

Fantastic meal!!! So many Mexican restaurants seem like the same everywhere you go. This is a very small place but everything was exceptional from the beans and rice to the entrees which were absolutely amazing. They had unique specials and amazing drinks at affordable prices! read more

This is the best tex-mex food I have ever had. The service was great. The prices were reasonable. Don't spend your money at the skamania Lodge for dinner. Come here. That portions are plenty. Great ambience and cold drinks. Clean bathrooms. read more

The food was surprisingly delicious for a late night meal! We happened to come in on bingo karaoke night which was so much fun, and if you win you get to pick something out of the sombrero hat like a free drink or food item (you were almost guaranteed to win if you played). The service was great and brought out our food very quickly. read more

Good Mexican food in the small town of Stevenson. We ordered blue corn chicken enchiladas and the food was good. The server was amazing; she was the only server on the shift but still ensured everybody was taken care of and everyone's food and drinks came out on time. The quantity is generous. read more

I ordered take out Rice Bowl last night. It was delicious and will be enough for another dinner and a lunch. They packaged the toppings (lettuce, juicy tomatoes, guacamole & Mexican cheese) separately from the chicken and rice. So it will be even tastier at the next meal. Very economical and very delicious!! read more

Great food, excellent service and overall enjoyable experience. Live in the Portland area and will definitely be going back any time I am out in the Gorge! read more

Fabulous and grand is the El Rio burrito. Countless hot sauces to choose from. Great service always.

Some of the best food I've ever tasted along with the best customer service I've experienced. 10/10 would recommend

Bland tasteing,Steak was dry and old tasting. The service was lacking and rushed. The prices don't match what we received.will not go back.

El Rio is a great place to grab dinner or happy hour! Happy hour is Friday and Saturday 9pm-12ish no kids allowed in the bar at that time but the deals are great! Everything on the menu is delicious but we recommend the tostada, you get what you paid for. Try out some hot sauces on the sauce rack near the back of the restaurant. read more

El Rio Texicantina - Spooky strawberry margarita - Mexican Near Me - Stevenson, Washington

I'm not usually a person to leave a review but for the quality of one's well being I felt it to be necessary. If you burnt your taste buds off when you were a kid this is the place for you. There was no flavor and when there was it was as if I was eating taste testers from Sam's club. We had asked for "carnitas" and had to explain to the worker that it was pork. If you want authentic and tasty Mexican food go to California. The steak I got was dry and the salsa tasted store bought. Chips weren't salty they tasted okay but it was so oily. Now onto the servers. They were nice but they need to learn to not get distracted. Throughout our meal we got no refill of chips and no refill of drinks that we had ordered. If you don't serve us (what you read in your job description) then you don't get a tip. Sorry not sorry won't go again. read more

I don't wanna be mean because they seem really nice but this place is literally the worst 'Mexican food' I've ever had. It has no flavor, no spices, and my GF said 'it doesn't even seem like they use salt' haha so if you're into flavorless food and friendly people then you'll like but not expect much. Their $18 burrito is smaller than a Del Taco burrito and has less flavor. read more

Great steak, bleu cheese, jalapeño tacos and the gf's salad was great too. Service was great even though they were slammed.

This place is sooooo good. The queso is from another planet. The meats are seasoned and charred to perfection. We went with crispy tacos. They did not disappoint. We went two days in a row. Same regulars (all very nice) and all of the staff were top notch. They made us feel like regulars. We will make a point to stop here every time we roll through. Thank you! read more

My parents absolutely love this place so they asked me to take them there. When we got there the waitstaff told us to sit wherever, we chose a nice spot by the windows. My parents got enchiladas with beans and rice and loved them. I got a chicken tostada with beans and rice. It was pretty spicy and kind of dry. The waiter was nice and our food came out pretty fast. I'd try this place again and get something different next time. Maybe I'll take my parents out here again. read more

there food and service was absolutely terrible. would not recommend this place at all if you want to eat something good I'd rather have McDonald's read more

It was more of an American bar not sure where they get the name lol, but the waitress was nice, but the food was not good at all.

Great drinks, service and people. It's a small town and many people gather to have good food, quality service and a good time.

If you want Mexican this is not it. This is not even an attempt at Mexican food with too much spice. It was the most bland attempt ever, not even 5 shakes of the salt and pepper helped. It was disappointing. It should not advertise as Mexican. It is misleading. read more

Food was great! Super clean, outside seating was a plus. Super friendly service. Salmon tacos were delish

Wow. The meals are both plentiful and tasty! Carly at the bar is fantastic! The burrito is HUGE! It's an accomplishment to finish it in one sitting, but it's delicious! The shrimp tacos are off the hook great. If you're ever near here, stop n for a beer and a meal. Or a margarita! They're great as well. read more

The food was amazing as well as huge portions! The chicken enchiladas and pork chimichanga were both a hit. If we make it up through here again we will definitely come back. The service was also very good even though we seemed to get there as a small rush started and the music was just right. It was loud enough to hear but not be distracting. read more

I am a local who loves El Rio and comes often! Some of my personal favorite dishes include the seafood enchiladas, blue corn enchilada suizas, Rio rolls, street corn nachos and fried ice cream. Portions are generous. I always regret not ordering fajitas! The service is always spot on. read more

Amazing service by mother & daughter servers! Food was definitely worth the drive from Portland! This is on my list of favorites!

Having lived in both Texas and New Mexico and missing the style of Mexican food from that area I was hoping El Rio would fit the bill. Not so much. The layered enchiladas we just OK. We decided to try the queso (I do love Queso!!) and it had almost no flavor at all. We had to send it back after taking two bites. Salsa is not my style, almost sweet and does not appear fresh. Waitress was very lackluster in her service. When we sent the queso back we said it was not what we expected and she said, "OK". I will say she took it off the bill, which was appropriate. But it seems if you're not a local server is not really interested in providing service. read more

Thought the salmon tacos would have been really good and fresh given the area, weren't anything special and honestly they were a bit odd. Staff was nice and place was air conditioned and well set up. Tater tots are super crispy and good! Salsa is weird as hell, smelled a bit like cabbage water was in it? Rice was like Spanish rice-a-roni with some canned tomato chunks. To be fair they do say Tex-mex and not Mexican... read more

Had driven past several times and thought "that looks like a nice place" from the outside. Stopped in for lunch the other day and was absolutely bowled over by the great service and delicious food! So friendly and accommodating (I'm GFDF) and got our food on the table in flash. I had honey garlic shrimp tacos and my wife had salmon tacos. All round, 10 outta 10 experience and we'll be back! read more

The bartender Alec was so freaking cool and made the best fresh juice margaritas, order the skinny margarita!! Amazing! Food as good and karaoke was super fun!!!!! Great night in the Columbia Gorge, thanks Alec!!!! read more

I really wanted to like this place and think my expectations were a bit high. The service was great but the food was ok. I ordered the cheese enchiladas that came with rice and beans. The enchilada sauce tasted like it came straight out of a can. The chips and salsa were OK but wouldn't ask for seconds. Again, probably not the smartest choice of place to eat, but it filled us up. read more

Shredded beef was okay, but not seasoned at all. Basically, I was eating pot roast. The enchiladas sauce was heavy and flavorless. The beer was reasonably priced, but the mixed drinks were very expensive. The tortilla soup head a very strange flavor - not at all using the traditional spices. There probably isn't one God-fearing Mexican residing within 50 miles of Stevenson, and it shows in this very Americanized food. The service was good. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this random Mexican restaurant in the middle of Stevenson, WA. We were on our way to Mt. Adams and by recommendation stopped in for dinner. For a Saturday it wasn't the least bit crowded. A few families here and there...but then again you're in a small town. First thing I noticed was the 'help yourself' wall of hot sauce in the back. Pretty cool. Overall atmosphere was nice and they had a good looking bar. I ordered a skinny margarita and it was quite good. Fresh squeezed lime, agave, and tequila...perfect blend. Chips & Salsa were nice and everything seemed fresh and homemade. I ordered the Blue Corn Creamy Enchiladas and ate nearly every bite. This was not like your average "Americanized Mexican" food. This was fresh and all in all a little more on the healthy side I'd say. The enchiladas came with yummy grilled vegetables and some rice. Good and not over sized portions. Plenty of food though and I didn't feel awful afterwards. I did notice it was a bit more expensive than most Mexican restaurants but then again you get what you pay for. I would certainly recommend coming here if you are in the area. read more

I adore Mexican food. In fact, my girlfriend recently asked me if I could only eat one food the rest of my life, what would it be? And I replied 'tacos' (and seeing the genius of that answer, she immediately changed her answer to tacos as well). So versatile! It's kind of a scam answer, because you basically allow yourself all the food in the world, so long as it's served in a tiny tortilla. Anything can go in a taco. Same goes for it's big brother the burrito. But I digress.... El Rio apparently "used to be great", or so sayeth the friend who dragged me here after a hike in the Columbia River Gorge. The emphasis on "used to" is her's. There's really only one place to go in Stevenson when you're hungry and thirsty, and that, of course, is Walking Man. Unfortunately Walking Man doesn't open until afternoon, so options are limited earlier in the day. If there was decent Mexican available for lunch--along with decent beer--that'd be a pretty sweet addition to my PNW bliss. But alas, El Rio is not this place. Sad, boring burrito under a dairy helmet, with rice and blando beans. Flavorless salsa. Mexican food is easy. How can you make it so mediocre? The real crime was the drinks, however. They apparently pride themselves on their top shelf tequila selection and their fancy-pants margaritas. So my friend and I ordered margaritas, which arrived in large, frosty glasses. Then we each ordered a shot of tequila to pour into our margaritas so they'd actually have a bit of booze in them. I shit you not! That made for a pretty expensive and weak marg that wasn't all that fancy pants in the end. Tart sugar water. For shame! read more

Took a day trip to Stevenson, WA with a few friends. They had been to this restaurant before and really liked it. I had never been to Stevenson or this restaurant. I love little adventures. Service was really friendly, they had a wall of hot sauces that you can choose from and the food was very fresh. I'll post some pics here that I took once I figure out how to do that. They started us out with a basket of chips and fresh salsa. Full of tomatoes and other goodness, the salsa was super good. The chips were nice and warm. One person in our party ordered a sangria which I had to take a sip of. A bit too sweet for me, but the presentation was nice. Photo soon.........hopefully. I ordered the Smoked Pork Chili Verde. This is how the menu describes it: Succulent chunks of house smoked pork in a mildly spicy green chili & tomatillo sauce. Nobody makes Chili Verde like this! Served with warm tortillas. If that doesn't make your mouth water, you aren't human. The pork was as described. Succulent. I like that word so much I'm going to type it again. Succulent. Ok, I'm done. All plates come with a side of mexican rice and your choice of black or pinto beans. Standard stuff, true, but everything was really good. The portions were huge and as I said, the food was very fresh. Cool little place in a cool little town along the Columbia River in southern Washington State. Worth the drive. read more

Honestly, the salsa tastes like it's straight out of a Pace Picante jar, but not the spicy stuff, the stuff that's labeled mild, and is blander than any combination of tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños ought to ever be. That's not a good start. The waitress was kind and engaging, thus the 2 stars. The food is bland and unimaginative in every way. From the salmon tacos to the nachos, which, to be honest, were loaded with meat, to the children's food, there is just nothing authentic or tasty to be had. I'm guessing that this would suit some people though, kind of like the Denny's of Mexican food. read more
