This place has the worst customer service. On 5/22/2019 at approximately 8:58PM the woman that answered the phone had the nastiest attitude I've ever experienced in any restaurant. I asked to speak to the owner and she said "The owner doesn't speak the people who order food." Then she hung up on me!! So I called back and I asked to speak to someone in charged. It's pretty authentic stuff here, very similar to the stuff I get in Texas and Arizona. Forget the neon sign, Sombrero-on-the-wall type of mexicant restaurants. Those are fake and will give you diarrhea. Give the tripe taco a shot, it's deep fried to give it that crunch. It was one of my favs. The sauce that it comes with is hot and awesome. Like many people, you will err on the side of just getting a burrito. That's what I did this time and have to say don't do it. It's nice but it's bland. So I was having one of those days where if you don't get Mexican food on-the-ASAP you're going to go insane and start screaming at people in Fake Spanish. You know what I'm talking about here. So off I was, walking home from the 59th Street train station and saw this place had some good reviews (thanks Yelp!) so I stopped in for some delicious gut-busting delicacies. I was in a plain-mane kind of mood and got the vegetarian burrito, which comes complete with all you see in my photo. I got it to go, but picked it up in person. The restaurant was empty, but it was clean and decorated nicely. They also have a TV and music playing in the background. The food was good, however would have done well with some melted cheese on top, or at least throw the tortilla on the grill for a few seconds - it was cold! One thing that irks me is hot food in a cold tortilla (or bread, etc) I dunno why. It's a texture / temperature thing. They just don't GO together. Also, if you pay 11$ from a small Mexican restaurant for a vegetarian burrito they normally include beans and rice, sometimes even chips but this was just the burrito with some greens on the side. No biggie - but it would have been great to have some frijoles. The server was pleasant and gave good customer service, also they take debit card at no extra charge. All in all it was a good burrito, but I wouldn't feel a desire to return here in the near future. read more

The two stars is for the woman who cooks the food and for the nice pretty slim waitress who is there in the morning Monday thru Friday and Saturday. If it was just those 2 ladies I would give this place 5 stars. But those two ugly waitresses with the caked on bad makeup and bad body shapes who are there in the evening can get fired and go f themselves. Ugly attitudes and stank faces. If I'm ever in the mood for authentic Mexican food, Sunset Park is the ideal neighborhood. Getting here from midtown Manhattan can be far, It's more than half an hour train ride on the R. This section of south Brooklyn is working class poor, So I'm not surprised by the bland and outdated décor. I'm not crazy about the fluorescent lights, It reminds me of a hospital or a rehab site. The walls could use a different coat of paint, The mustard color is my biggest complaint. We came here on a Sunday night when they had mariachi performers. They sang so loud that we begged to get a table in the back corner. As they stroked their vihuela and guitarrón strings, They followed us to our table & asked us if there's a song we want them to sing. My friend requested "El Perdito," But they ended up singing "Frito Bandito." The entrée prices are steep for this deeply ethnic neighborhood, But the food portions are huge and quality ranges from above average to good. I love the sangria for its mildly sweet fruit punch taste, It only took 2 glasses of these to make me red in the face. Before taking our orders, they served us complimentary tortilla chips. We made the mistake of eating all of them. It filled up our appetites very quick. For the entrée, I had a trio of burritos: chicken, steak, and cheese The chicken was decent, but the steak was a little dry. I didn't have room for the cheese. With all that cheese and meat, These burritos are too much for one person to eat. The taste is above average, so not worth the long ride on the R train out here. First off, let me say that this is not our normal nabe to hang out in but my boyfriend and I got a groupon ticket for the alpine cinemas, so we deicided to eat near the theatre. So its like sitting in on the auditions on american idol. LOL My bf who is a former chef or as my g/f coined it a "recovering chef". He said that his steak was the best he has EVER had. Class 3-401 from P.S.971 took a trip to this restaurant. We went with the whole third grade and other adults. Casa Vieja accommodated our 70 person party. We loved this restaurant!! Our main reasons were the menu, the decor and the service. The first reason we loved Casa Vieja is the food was amazing. Every single person in the class loved the lemonade; it was awesome. The Chipotle Mayonnaise and homemade tortilla chips were scrumptious. Amy really looooovved the chicken!! The second reason that you should visit Casa Vieja is their decor.It had blue walls. The restaurant had colorful pinatas. They have a television and a jukebox that plays Mexican music. The bathrooms were clean. Our third and final reason that you MUST visit Casa Vieja is their service. The staff was courteous.The price was very cheap. The Manager, Lourdes was able to give us a price fixed sampler menu so our children could experience authentic Mexican cuisine. In conclusion we would like to say that Casa Vieja was delightful because of the menu, decor and the service.We would all love to go back there EVERY FRIDAY. Food was delicious - had a bit of a language barrier with the waitress, but that's perfectly fine! Had the potato flautas, side of rice and beans over a bed of salad. Potato filling was a bit lacking, but good in flavour. Texture was perfect, and the bed of lettuce/tomato was perfect. Rice and beans were good but nothing special. Tasted the veggie burrito, and it was also solid - rice and beans had a smokey flavour that I keep thinking about. Chips are definitely hearty, and you don't get salsa to start, but a chipotle mayo instead. Horchata was on point, but service was a little lax, because they had a huge party in there while we were guests. Karaoke was in full effect, which added to the charm.
