We went there on first friday in december. I was so very disappointed. We waited over an hour to receive cold food and had to ask for silverware. This was my second time at Casa Rodriguez in Downtown Bryan and both times on First Fridays and they were always busy. The first time I was here i order Fajita and I loved it. Two of my friends did not like what they ordered and they did not have to pay. This second time we loved the foods but they very late, though. We came here on a Sunday morning when it wasn't even busy. Our chips were burnt, took about 15 minutes to get coffee, and we waited about an hour for our food. The staff doesn't seem prepared to handle a simple two top table let alone a party greater than 5. Several around us were waiting over 15 minutes to just receive water. High quality food and service. A little bit of a background story: my husband and I lived in BCS for a few years but moved away in 2014. We found ourselves in Bryan yesterday for work and decided to stop in. We used to come here to get a pitcher of Memo Punch. We came in around 4pm which is a bit of a slow time for almost any restaurant. We asked for Memo Punch and were told that they may be out of it at the time. Our waitress went back and with the help of a few of her coworkers, got the Punch made. She really went the extra mile. I wish we had caught her name but unfortunately didn't. She was wonderful. So was the hostess that sat us down and the busser. 100% wonderful customer service for the entire hour we were there. Thank you so much. I wish we had gotten her name but nonetheless, she was fantastic. The food was excellent. The portion was large enough that we had leftovers for lunch today. The meat was of a higher quality and tender. Not cheap and fatty. My husband and I had a rough day yesterday and the staff and food truly perked us up. Thank you. Casa Rodriguez is a good Tex Mex restaurant in Bryan. If you want a fried avocado you'll need to go here or to Papa Perez. I've never had a bad experience here, but I've never had a "wow amazing" experience like I've had at other restaurants. Yes, I live in Houston and it really isn't fair to compare anything in Bryan to anything in Houston because let's face it: there is no comparison. Yes, I will even admit that I have a high standard when it comes to Mexican food. Even so it is not hard (in my opinion) to satisfy or meet said standard: Just make tasty, authentic, quality comida. When we first got there the place was packed (good sign, right?) The hostess was very friendly and seated us after a short wait. Our waitress was very friendly and good throughout our visit. Food was average at best. One of the persons at our table had potatoes as a side, but some of them were rotten. Horrible. Every time I order from here they screw up more order. I ordered breakfast and it came with pancakes. I asked for syrup and the girl sighed and said "HOLD ON ONE MINUTE. WE ARE BUSY". Every Tex-Mex restaurant can be ranked according to how well they do those items and, unfortunately Casa Rod doesn't shine in any of those areas. The chips and salsa were good, but not outstanding in any way (not really a negative comment - they met expectations), the queso was ok (plain Jane and also not outstanding), ground beef taco meat was dry, and cheese enchiladas were mediocre. Overall, this place has standard, predictable Tex-Mex fare without any punch. Actually, it should be stated that the Charro beans were *excellent*, particularly in comparison to everything else on our plates. We went at an off peak hour (4 pm) on a Sunday and were seated immediately. Service was good and the waitstaff was friendly. Do yourself a favor and just walk down the street to Papa Perez if you want Mexican food. I have lived here for 10 years and have continuously watched this restaurant go downhill. I've finally had enough bad experiences that it's time to write a review. Every time I eat here I swear it's the last time I'll ever go. Last night we Waited for an hour and half for our food...yes, an hour and a half, and not a single person at the table was satisfied with the quality of anything that was served. On top of bad quality it is entirely too overpriced. As a restaurant in the BCS, you should be ready for big crowds and casa rod was not at all. I suppose if you like food that is completely devoid of any flavor you might like this restaurant, but my experience was that this was by far the worst Mexican food I've ever had - and the service was terrible to boot. I thought the price was exceptionally high considering the quality of ingredients they cook with, think: CHEAP! Cheap would also describe the decor: very cheap garage-sale tables and chairs, cheap pictures on the walls (also from a garage-sale). The salsa is basically tomato sauce with a dash of Tabasco sauce. I ordered the spinach enchiladas with queso - basically think 'American Macaroni and Cheese' and that's about what it tasted like. I couldn't eat it - ANY of it. My husband had the chicken fajitas. The chicken was good, but normally when you order fajitas you think you will get more than chicken. What little veggies there were were burnt to a crisp and stuck to the bottom of the plate. No shredded cheese, no pico de gallo, no shredded lettuce or diced tomato - basically just chicken on tortillas. My daughter ordered beef tacos which looked like they were made with very cheap ground beef and store-bought shells. My family and I are long time Casa Rodriguez customers but today, service was unacceptable. We waited 10-15 mins before anyone ever came by to get our drink order. Then we waited another 10 for our drinks. I could understand if the place was packed, but it was half empty. The staff was more than capable of accommodating the number of customers. We ordered a queso but waited so long for chips that the queso was hard. Sat without napkins and silverware until our food was cold. Piccadillo plate was good with the exception of the cold beans. Carne Guisada plate did not impress. A young busboy/waiter carried a high chair past our table and accidentally hit me with the high chair but didn't bother to apologize or ask I if was okay. I hope Casa Rod will pay more attention to their customers in the future. I am very disappointed in our visit today. read more

Formerly known as Gina's, Casa Rod has proven themselves as a winning replacement. I used to come to this place as a kid to enjoy a soda and a burger with my gramps. This place is good but a bit pricey in my opinion. Their fajitas are amazing!! My wife and I have only been to the restaurant twice but have ordered out a few times since COVID started in early 2020. Anyway, we recently ate lunch there and ordered a large guacamole salad that, on the menu, says it's $8. While it tasted good, my problem is what they charged me on the final bill. On the bill, it says they charged me $9.49 instead of the $8 listed on the menu. All the other menu items we ordered were at menu price as advertised. However, while this may not be a big deal to some people, it is to me because I'm the kind of person that's not willing to pay more than I want to pay especially when the price is clearly advertised on the menu. So, I took that extra $1.49 out of the waiters tip. Nothing against the waiter but no business is going to get away with trying to squeeze extra money out of me that I'm not willing to pay. DO NOT EAT HERE. Very poor service, forgot my food order, and the food was cold. When we were seated we sat around for 5 min waiting to place our drink orders (we had to flag someone down). When our food orders came out the waitress forgot my order and everyone else's food was cold. The waitress didn't bring silverware with our food so we sat around for another 2 min staring at our food with no way of eating it. Best Tex-Mex in town, period, end of story. If you're looking for Mexican food for lunch or dinner look no further. Suggestions: enchiladas are a big hit and there are several varieties. The carnitas are top notch, but for my money, nothing beats El Mobley. It's everything you could ever want on one plate, especially if you ask them to add refried beans to it. Hit or miss. The food is consistent and pretty good but, as they openly admit, the service is lacking. If you're in a hurry or expect excellent service, pick somewhere else. Also, unless it's a margarita or a beer, don't waste your money on drinks, they don't know much about bartending. We've been eating here for years... but we've probably now gone for the last time. We waited almost half an hour for the food to come out with a mostly empty restaurant, then, 3 out of 4 dishes made it... took another 7-10min for the last meal... Our waiter was pretty much hit and run, only had a couple tables ( like I said the place was mostly empty), but was more interested in running off than doing his job. I asked for hot sauce, and he didn't manage to get to it until the end of the meal.. it was a little late. Glad I did t need anything else. The bad thing is.. this has been going on a while.. and some other former customers have mentioned that they've talked to the owner who responded with a lot of excuses... problem is... the issues are continuing, and growing. Not sure what has changed but the service is awful. Multiple tables not being served while others who come in later get attention from waitress, drinks and meal before we were even waited on. The waitress was obviously not happy and a bit lazy and comments under her breath were not appropriate. We have enjoyed Casa Rod for years. Dining in has been fine. We have had a couple of experiences with takeout, though, that leave us planning to go elsewhere. Both were occasions we were having groups in our home and placed fairly large orders. Both times, we got home, only to find items missing...and significant things, like the rice and beans, condiments, and most recently, an entire serving of fajitas. With a house of people to feed. We did contact a manager, who credited us for the missing order, but it still left us without the food we had planned on having. We enjoy the food Casa Rod serves, but we just can't count on them for pickup. read more

Casa Rod is hands-down my favorite Mexican food place in BCS. I was at A&M from 2014-2018 and this place never failed me. Their margaritas are delicious (and pack a punch), their happy hour/meal specials can't be beat, and it's just an all around fun time while you're there. My go to is the El Mobley with a small queso and let me tell you, you've heard of the freshman 15...4 years full of these suckers and I was in for the four-year 40. I make a point to visit every time I'm in town, even if I only have time for 1 margarita (but let's be real...you can't only have 1). You feel like family here, and in my humble opinion, that tops every other aspect of a dining experience. Definitely a Tex-Mex place. There's more authentic food deeper into Bryan. The enchiladas, fajitas, fried avocado, etc. are consisteny good. Chips and salsa fresh and flowing. The main issue here is staffing. Understandably, they're usually busy during peak times and the staff are friendly, but they never seem to have enough staff or to be organized enough to match their food with service. I've only been here once, and I found the food pretty good, and the service stellar. The waiter was very kind and personable, and answered my queries without making me feel like a burden. And right at the next table were the owners. The whole time I was there, people would stop and talk to them, or even sit a spell. Yes they do make their own flour tortillas, and they are nice and fluffy. I had a beef taco and a shredded chicken taco. I am a bit partial to tacos, and I wish they had more choices a la carte. Today was an unfortunate experience at this usually consistent Tex-Mex restaurant. Generally, the wait staff is friendly and attentive, but not today. The chips were burnt, salsa tasteless, and the chilled chicken avocado was hard and topped with shredded chicken enchilada filling. If you're in the area, try Cilantro which is far better food for a similar price with a family atmosphere that holds customer service above all. I will not be returning for any meals here for a while. Side note: the bathrooms need some serious attention and a health inspection visit is probably long overdue. read more
