Oddly popular place with locals, but not for me. It's Tex-Mex-Mex like most of the places in town, but pretty much indisinguushable. Decent chips and salsa is actually pretty good. Lots of combo plates with the usual rice and refried beans, if that's your thing. I think people come here for the margaritas a lot, which I've tried once and found super sweet and gross. Now breakfasts aren't bad actuall. But the eggs often have this weird chemical flavor as if they used a really bad margarine, which I think they do. Who the hell still cooks with margarine? I guess Casa Rod does. The menudo is good enough to give three stars. At $2.29, the very bad coffee is shockingly over priced. The modal customer appears to be gringos over 65. This is generally a sign that the food will be bland and flavorless, with quantity taking preference over quality; local geezers here are absolutely obsessed with "getting their money's worth." read more

Nevertheless, it was a decent sized taco w/ the fajita meat having good flavor but was a tad dry. It was pretty good. All tacos came w/ a red sauce, that was thick & had a good flavor to it. They were generous, as I got 1 container of salsa per taco. Barbacoa breakfast taco ($2.25): I wouldn't consider this a breakfast taco either. Only meat & tortilla. Still, I liked this taco. Went here for dinner on a Friday night. Wait wasn't too bad if you get there 6. The service was okay. We asked for small plates so we could share the gauc and queso and they brought us 3 when we needed 5. Plus 2 out of 3 were dirty. It also took a while to get our server. Apparently there was miscommunication and she didn't know we were out table. Service aside, the food was excellent! The gauc was very good. I had the mango tilapia and couldn't finish it. Everyone said there food was great as well. If you're willing to deal with minor service issues, but great food then I recommend Casa Rod's! They also had live music! read more

Drove to the now "old" location and their found out that they has closed. I asked Siri how to get to the new place and walked in at 2:07pm to be told that they closed at 2:00pm on Mondays. If they would have posted their hours on their old place it would have saved me a trip over to Bryan to be told that they are closed. I live an hour from College Station and had been craving their guacamole tostadas for a few weeks now. Very upset that this would have simply made a difference if the paper signs outside the old place stated their new hours. I would have read them and saved the time it took to drive over there to turn around and drive back to College Station to find somewhere to eat that was clean and not a commercial chain. Our order was to go because they close by 9 pm. It took them a minute to get it together but once the lady came to the front she was ready to take the order. We ordered the steak with sautee tomatoes, onions and jalapeños with rice, refried beans and guacamole. All was fresh and delicious. They even packed fresh chips and salsa. We finally asked the hostess if we could simply place a drink order and she gave us attitude. The manager didn't seem to care about the poor service and had a worse attitude than the hostess. Have been coming to Casa Rods for many years and for a while their service had slipped, but they are back on top of everything. Fantastic service by our waitress Vivianna and had several others stop by the table to make sure we had everything we needed. Food was excellent. I had the grilled chicken a la Mexicana. I think it is the best thing on the menu, well seasoned grilled chicken covered with queso, jalepanoes, and veggies and a great choice of sides. The chips and salsa were great. It's clear they make the chips in house from real tortillas and the salsa was spot on. It tasted exactly as though they had blended fresh tomatoes, onions, fresh jalapenos, cilantro and lime in the back, and that's it. It was spicy and it was *good*. I'm not much of a meat eater and their menu had enough options for me. I got the the avocado taco plate and my husband got the fajita burrito. I forgot to request corn tortillas instead of flour and I'm glad I did. The flour tortilla tasted unlike any flour tortilla I've ever had before - light and crispy, not doughy. I think my two tacos had an entire half of an avocado in each along with lettuce, tomato, beans, and cheese. Very, very yummy. My husband's fajita burrito was delicious. It was drowned in ranchera sauce but still tasted light, as though they had made everything fresh in the back. My platter also had rice and beans on it, which is where Casa Rodriguez loses a star. It isn't that the rice and beans were bad, it's that they weren't exceptional and I'm trying to reserve 5 stars for perfect dining experiences. Third visit to Casa Rod, it never disappoints! I have been making my way through the special lunch menu, today I had Chicken Fajitas and they were delicious. Great service, very attentive, they kept the fresh tortillas chips and salsa coming. I recommended trying the green sauce on your next visit, it is quite possibly the best dip I have had at a Mexican restaurant ever! This is absolutely my favorite place for Mexican food in the b/cs area. The food is always good, the servers are extremely friendly and helpful, and the owners are good people. The frozen margaritas are delicious especially when they are on sale on certain days. The only thing I've ever gotten there that was not as awesome as it could be (but was still good) was the queso, it is a little pricey and seems to be just (velveeta?) some type of melted cheese with no other ingredients like tomatoes or chilli peppers or the things that usually go into Mexican food restaurants queso. WORST FOOD AND SERVICE EVER! It was over 2 hours from the time we arrived till we got the check. We barely got our drinks before the food came out and when the food did come out it was COLD.
