The day we went was packed May 11th around 7 pm Friday, there seating is just awful. Customers are basically on top of each other. Porions were small, good, but way too little. It was hot, no a/c I guess that night. Hostess that night very quiet and not friendly., Waiter was exceptional. Live music was good. Basically it's a great place to dine, just don't go when there packed. They seem to get lost when handling that many customers. read more

Had heard good things, but the service was a tragedy. Seated fairly quickly, but we didn't see our waitress until about 20 minutes after being seated. Once we finally ordered, the food took an hour and a half and was cold when it finally did arrive after multiple requests to check on the order. Very difficult to get refills on chips and drinks. Had dinner there last night with a party of four. Food was delicious (chicken fajitas and enchiladas) and service was awesome! Employees kept our glasses filled and table free of used dishes. Horrible food. Tonight we were looking for something different to eat from our normal few favorite restaurants. The hostess wanted to sit us near the front but it was so loud from the guests near the door we asked to be seated towards the back. That didn't seem to make her happy. She let us sit wherever we wanted but didn't give us menus or silverware. 5 or so minutes go by and the waitress comes by and gets out drink order and asks if we know what we want to eat. We tell her we didn't have menus she smiled and walked off to get out drinks someone else brought the menus. I asked for fajita chicken chimichanga hubby got beef quesadilla and the kid got a kids quesadilla. We ordered Queso for an appetizer. It's literally melted nasty cheese, NASTY! when our food came she asked if we needed anything else... we never got the silverware. Once and we got that my food of course isn't chicken it's shredded beef. I tried it but it wasn't good at all. When the waitress came back over after a bit I told her my food was wrong and she took it back but it would be a few to get it cooked. Not a problem. While we are waiting my husband is watching the fight on TV (there are probably 5 or so TVs) they turn only one off and it was the one my husband was watching. RUDE. Finally I get my chimichanga and it was DISGUSTING!!! They are suppose to be fried what I got was a wet burrito with chicken. I literally ate the chicken out of it and that was it. The beans were odd tasting and the rice was not good. This place has gone down hill. Someone really needs to figure out why food sucks so bad. Hubby was not impressed with his quesadilla and the kid barely ate anything. $40 down the drain for horrible food! read more

Well I guess for CS this place had decent Mexican food, but I can find much better places with lower prices in San Antonio and Austin. The waiter is basically the reason I give 1 star and the other star goes to the tortillas which were pretty good. The place was not very pack when me and five friends went. I want to give this place three stars but three of my friend's got ill from the food here! I don't know what it was. They ordered the Brisket Tacos and Fajita Tacos so be warned! On our drive back to SA we had to stop at Home Depot, Randalls, and finally a Shell so they could goto the bathroom! Yeah but regardless my plate was ok. I got the Fried Avocado Dinner. I doubt I would come here again, I mean I don't want to get sick! But the services was awesome so I'll give them that. read more

Long story short: messed up drink order twice, chicken for chicken fajitas was chewy and fatty (not trimmed). And no tortillas con mis fajitas for two. grew up on this place. We decided to try a coworkers recommendation to try this place out for lunch. I'll get right to it. The place seems to not seen an upgrade since the first Rodriguez came to town. Very, very outdated. To start, the chips seemed a bit stale and the salsa was obviously the canned variety. Tried the sour cream sauce chicken enchiladas upon recommendation and I was not impressed. Although the enchiladas were swimming in cheese and sour cream, the chicken was dry. Not too much flavor here folks. Rice and beans were what you would find at any typical Mexican restaurant. I am a fourth generation local so I have pretty much eaten at all of the old Mexican food places in B-CS that aren't franchised. Also.I live really close to downtown Bryan so have done my share of Casa Rod. I'm done with this place and that makes me really sad. The last 3 times I ate there the service was HORRIBLE. My meals were just as bad. First time-the enchilada gravy was very very thick and tasted as if the only ingredient in it was chili powder and flour. Second time- guacamole was very very soured. This is a health risk. Third time- enchiladas, beans and rice were barely warm In fact the cheese wasn't even melted. Another health risk. Won't be a forth time. Overall not a bad place. I liked the chips and both the salsas (red and creamy green). It was a Wednesday night and they had some sort of drink specials going on. I got a large margarita sort of drink. It was very sweet, but also pretty darn strong. After seeing that the stuffed fried avocados were something that they're known for I decided to go for it. I got the fajita beef inside of mine. I've never had fried stuffed avocados before so I don't know if this is the norm or not, but most of the avocado was cold on the inside, especially closer to the center. Was not a fan. I've given this place a few tries and have always been underwhelmed but a couple of weeks ago I took my friends who were visiting from out of town here because we were in downtown Bryan and wanted Mexican. I ordered the shrimp stuffed avocado, something I have ordered before, and it came out undercooked. The avocado was not all that ripe, the cheese wasn't really melted, and the shrimp was rubbery. I've also realized why the food here has always taste bland to me: there's no cumin! I want my tex mex full of cumin flavor, thank you. I won't ever be coming back here. If y'all are ever in the mood for Mexican in Downtown Bryan, try Papa Perez or El Tio. read more

Really more like 3.5 stars. We went on a Friday that was a first Friday. Got there early but still waited. We were quoted 15 minute wait it was more like 5-10. Once seated waitstaff was good came right over to get drinks had margaritas which were ok but for the price not great. The salsa for the chips was not that good either. Tasted out of a can honestly. I had the el Mobley which was the best part of the meal. It's Spanish rice with your choice of meat covered in queso and avocado slices with tortillas. That was pretty good but really salty. A friend got the enchiladas I'm glad I didn't because they looked like they took some tortillas rolled them up and poured cheese on top. Another friend has the shrimp fried avocado which looked pretty good and I was able to steal a bite it was pretty good. Overall good atmosphere wish they would turn the music down though, and decent service with decent food. Much better than some other stuff I've tried in DTB. read more

Really disappointed with the service today. Took several minutes just to be acknowledged when we went in and waited for for someone to seat us. Next we waited about 10 minutes before chips and salsa were brought to our table, and then our drink order wasn't taken. Several minutes later a waitress took our drink order (after having to ask if we had already ordered). About 10 more minutes passed and our order was finally taken (same waitress asked if anyone had taken our order). 20 minutes later we had to ask about our order and it finally came out. Both of our orders were wrong when they finally came out, but we kept what was brought because we were tired of waiting. Finished lunch, and waited and waited and waited for the check... Never came so we went to the register. Tried to explain the messed up order and asked if we were being charged for what we ordered or for what we got... Lady at the desk had to go get someone else at that point even though the waitress that too our order was standing right there. A lady we'd never seen came out and told us it was her table and the other lady just took our order (???) and that's where it got messed up. I ask her what she was going to charge us for and she just had this puzzled look on her face. I was tired of waiting and just told her to run my card. Paid a helluva lot more than I was expecting, but in the bigger picture it was a relatively cheap way to learn that Casa Rod's service has went to pot and the restaurant is no longer worth going to. We usually highly enjoy this place, but today, my husband and I both had the worst service and food we've ever had at a restaurant. It took them 20 minutes to seat us while we saw three open tables. Our waitress had half of her head shaved and stopped by our table twice, to get our order and bring it back, nothing else. She gave us stale and greasy chips, and forgot our silver ware when she did bring us food but never came back, so we had to flag someone down both times. My chimichanga was sub par and the beans were almost white, the rice was chewy. My husband ordered the el Thomas and just requested they take it back and not charge us for it - everything he ordered was cold and almost obviously old. We've never blatantly returned a whole dish before. read more

I've eaten here before and I enjoyed the food a lot but I recently went a second time and did not have a good experience. We went right to the bar to get some chips and drinks. When the bartender brought out our chips and moved them over the bar mat, about 30-40 fruit flies swarmed over our chips. I work in beverage service and this number of fruit flies tells me that the bar mats have not been cleaned all day, probably not for a couple days. It was around 5pm. After that, my party and I did not feel comfortable and we left. I'm sure this isn't normal circumstance for this place because I've heard great reviews and had a pleasant experience the first time. I thought I was the only one that had a horrible experience here! I walked in, waited 5 mins to be seated. When I was seated, I waited another 10 mins to even get asked what I wanted to drink and to receive my chips and salsa. I told to the waiter I have to be back at work at 12:30. I ordered around 12:05. I get my meal (cheese enchiladas with rice and beans). I told her that I wanted the Chile on top. I didn't get it. So she brings me out a bowl of meat. That IS NOT what I said. I specifically told her that I wanted CHEESE enchiladas with CHILE on top. NOT Chile with meat. She then proceeds to tell me that she can have it taken off if I want. I told her okay take it off. At this moment, she walks in the back for about 5 minutes, and it's 12:25. So I got up and walked out without paying!! It was a good meal considering it was free. But if I had to pay for it, I'd rather go to McDonald's lol read more

I'm giving 3 stars because in college, we loved this restaurant and would come here to escape the chaos of College Station. However, our experience last night was at best sub par. Our group ordered a large queso and quickly after bringing out the queso the restaurant ran out of chips. Not sure how a Mexican food restaurant runs out of chips, but it happened. We almost had our meal by the time they had more chips made which by that point our queso was cold. Our waitress did well considering she was triple sat when we sat down. The El Mobley is delicious and I would recommend this dish to anyone going. Their corn tortillas are store bought so go for the flour if you're debating between the two. read more

This was probably the WORST service I've ever had at a restaurant. It's a local cliche kind of place so I wasn't expecting amazing service--just something quick and decent, but those expectations were too high I guess. It took about 75 min to get our food, which is absurd, and our waitress went MIA, and the poor bus boy was more helpful and apologetic. So when we asked to talk to the manager, we were told that the slow service was OUR FAULT for coming on a busy night. Like what? And then the waitress took our cards to pay FULL PRICE, and it took 25 min to get our cards back... needless to say, I will be checking my credit card statement tomorrow... read more

I would probably have given this establishment 4 stars, but was sorely disappointed in the management when dealing with a payment issue from a delivery order. We decided to order delivery from Casa Rodriguez for my sister's graduation since we figured all the restaurants would be packed. The delivery was on time and the gentleman seemed to be extremely nice. He brought in the food and then asked about the payment. I wasn't sure what my sister had set up previously in terms of payment and explained that I could pay with cash or card. He said he would need to go out to his van to check and see. When he came back in he said he could take cash. I gave him $160 for the $149 order (which already included tip and delivery charge). The gentleman didn't offer to give any receipt even though I asked and he left. Afterwards, we learned that the food had already been paid for by my sister through credit card. We spoke to management and were told that they would look in to it. We have yet to hear anything back from the manager. It saddens me that an establishment would allow such a dishonest person to work for them, and after realizing that they had hired a fraud, would not reimburse the customer due to their poor personnel choice. I will not return to a business with so low integrity than to accept responsibility for a mistake made by one of their employees. It is easy to take the money and run since it is already in hand, but that obviously isn't the right thing to do as a business hoping to have a good reputation. I will make sure that everyone I know in the BCS area knows about this incident and hope to hear from the management soon to rectify this problem. read more

Tonight the place was only half full and it took forever to get everything. The menu is okay if you are craving Tex-Mex and your palate is not all that discerning. The fried avocado (with beef fajita filling); spinach enchiladas; and the El Goyito dinner (beef brisket) are favorites. The charra beans are usually all right, although sometimes the bowl contains more 'juice' that beans, and, unforgivably, the papas Mexicanas are definitely from a can. read more

Gave this place one more chance. FAIL! I usually complain about the slow service but this time it had improved slightly. But still not adequate with only a handful of people there at lunch time on a Saturday. The cashier was having a personal video call that was obviously personal. Our waitress did not come to take our orders until she heard me complaining. The food was fresh as always but the beans were so bland they weren't edible. The rice was fluffy but also had no flavor. The enchiladas were bone dry except for the flavor-lacking sauce. The chicken also dry and flavorless. When I complain about queso, which is rare, it usually for being too runny. This queso was the only flavorful item but was so thick it kept breaking are chips and by the time it had moderately cooled was almost the consistency of peanut butter. This place is too expensive for the service and food quality you don't get. No more chances for Casa Rodriguez. Don't waste your time, money or palate. read more

Casa Rodriguez is a great restaurant. They immediately serve you with homemade tortilla chips and three different kinds of salsa, the service is prompt and attentive, and the food is exceptionally made. Not one person at my table had any complaints about any part of their plates. It's busy during lunch and dinner times, which should tell you enough, and has its share of diehard customers. If I lived in the area I'd go with regularity, but it's hands-down going to be a must-have whenever I'm passing through Bryan/College Station, no matter what the occasion. read more

The chili con carne was excellent. The picadillo had good flavor. Aside from those notes, it was relatively bland. American cheese is a definite turn-off. The red enchilada sauce was forgettable.
