Fresh Chips and Salsa
Steve Y.

We were greeted quickly by the gentleman behind the bar who also became our server. A beautiful impressive bar is the first thing you will see when walking in. We did not have drinks, but it was a great line up of quality spirits. Ordered chips and salsa $5.95, but fresh and 2 fresh quality salsa on the plate. We both had enchiladas and the presentation was incredibly beautiful. The rice was unique and very good as well, adequate and generous sauce as well to drench that rice in. Quality food here of a more authentic nature which we love. Small neighborhood feel also. We will be back.

Juevos Rancheros!
Matt R.

Met up with my best friend in the whole wide world for lunch and we decided on Casa Oaxaca. Glad I did. The Juevos Rancheros were really good. It's been a bit of a grind to find a good Mexican place since I moved. This one is definitely worth returning to. Good service, although that Reznor heater definitely provided a tropical temperature! I will be back!

Memelas

Warm, nice atmosphere...very inviting and friendly greeter and waitress. She was incredibly sweet and very hard working. I had the lunch memelas. Very simple but incredibly tasty. They clearly make everything in their kitchen. Very flavorful and authentic. Reasonably priced. I look forward to going back.

Mole Negro Wings

I fell in love with Oaxaca food so I marked this place and made an effort to check it out! I got the black mole wings, Chapulines Fiesteros and traditional tlayuda. Food was good but the tlayuda was a bit bland. I would have liked it with more flavour. Service was great and fast, and lots of seating available!

Verde chicken enchiladas

Extremely flavorful Spanish food. There is something about simple food that tastes amazing without all the condiments to make it palatable. Hubby loved he's wet mole burrito, which was HUGE! I had the verde enchiladas. The green enchilada sauce was my favorite party of the meal! Unfortunately, they ran out of the quesabirria but I was happy with my backup choice. We shared a horchata drink with our toddler. He loved that tasty beverage. Service was slight slow but it was one sever for the entire restaurant. We didn't mind being patient. Quaint little spot in Edmonds. We warned that parking sucks and plan accordingly. Thanks for the yummy mea.

Probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever been to , which made me study the menu and google a few things. Liked the authentic offerings and the place was packed . Pros - small space but lots of tables. They can pack the house. Was there on a Friday and ppl were waiting outside at times- a good sign! - very friendly service!! I've been here twice, once for drinks and the food looked so good, we made a plan to come back for dinner. - tasty entrees and the salsa had a strong spice factor! Loved that! - nice presentation - the chips and guac are handmade and delicious . (You pay for the chips and salsa here. ) - the dessert doughnuts with mango and chocolate sauce were a fun option Served fresh and warm. Mmmmmm! Meh - being a heavy veggie / limited meat eater, there are limited options. That's ok, I get it. Wish there were more but I settled on the tacos which were delicious. Would have loved more spice and a saucey drizzle to accompany it. Loved it served with their delicious spicy salsa! - the drinks are pretty and hand muddled , but not strong . Had a skinny jalapeño marg, lots of fresh fruit and jalapenos which filled the glass, just didn't taste or feel the alcohol. Same with the cadillac marg. - when we were here, the drink orders were backed up so there was quite a wait. I'm not a fan of getting our dinner before drinks so that was disappointing. Tip- order drinks asap and wait on the food , and allow extra time when it's busy. Good news- The kitchen was efficient! If you're looking for authentic options, go here!!

Tlayuda with cecina

In short: The most-gourmet Mexican place I've visited. Dead serious. Killer spirits list, too. In long: No, I haven't tried Mexican places all over, and, no, none outside the U.S., either. But this is easily the most-impressive spot so far. I still love my taco shops/trucks, Mexican sports bars, and family-style places, and will keep hitting them and trying new ones. But this one is firmly in that #1 spot for pure food love. It's in an old strip mall at what used to be Five Corners. I guess it's still Five Corners, though the corners became a big roundabout some years ago. There's a super-hot place next door that gets packed (for very good reason), but even though we scored the last parking spot last night, there were still a couple tables open here. Not only is this now the spot I'll happily visit when I can't get a table next door, I'll be coming here first quite a bit, too. There are plenty of windows on two sides, giving it that nice bright corner-suite feel. The booths run back farther around the corner if you want a bit more privacy. You walk in past a decent-sized bar with an extremely-impressive selection of tequilas and mezcals. Service is warm and friendly from the second you set foot inside. The owner's on the floor working, wearing a house t-shirt like everyone else. We had waters and menus instantly, and drinks not long after that. They have over a dozen cocktails, heavily focused on mezcal, and over a dozen margs, too. We tried a tamarind marg, a taranjol (mezcal with grapefruit and Squirt...yes, Squirt), and a curacao mezcalita. The mezcalita was that cartoonish blue from the curacao, but it was shockingly delicious with the smokiness of the mezcal. I could very easily overdo it on cocktails here. I didn't even start messing with neat pours of the good stuff yet, either. Chips and guac Yes, you have to pay for them here. They're amazing. Get them anyway. The chips themselves are fresh and light, though almost no place around makes their own tortillas to turn into chips, so I'd be shocked if they were 100% house-made. Warm, fresh-tasting, and crisp, though. Two good green salsas on the plate, plus a dish of excellent house-made guac. Tlayuda We had to Google this. A lot of American restaurants serve something that might look vaguely similar to this and call it "Mexican pizza," but it's just a passing resemblance. Yes, it's a large toasted tortilla laid flat, covered with stuff, and sliced into quarters. They offer it with your choice of meats, a couple of which are not on menus elsewhere around here AFAIK. We opted for the cecina, which is cured pork, and it is delectable. Some veg, some crema, some amazing orange salsa with a bit of warmth to the spices. Really good. Mole negro I ordered this with chicken, and it was fantastic. Two house-made chewy tortillas come with it, along with some rice with veg in it. Tons of sauce. Sweet, savory, irresistible. Black bean sauce They kinda imply it's amazing by featuring it in lots of dishes. We ordered a cup on the side out of sheer curiosity, and immediately started combining it with bites of everything else. It's amazing--great texture, adds depth of flavor to everything. No clashing flavor profiles anywhere on the table. A childhood friend of mine saw photos I posted while we were eating, and chimed in to say that he's never been in a bad mood while eating Mexican food. I like that. This meal made me feel like I'd kinda lifted a veil from my eyes by trying new things. I want to keep coming back here until their food turns into comforting old favorites for me. Might not take long.

Enmoladas Lunch
Matias B.

We went for lunch and I'm glad we came here! We started with margaritas--they were an appropriate strength for early afternoon and had all kinds of citrus cut into them. We had the Tacos Dorados Lunch and the Enmoladas Lunch. Amazing presentation and of course I love mole! Strongly recommend--enjoy!!!

I went with passion in the time of corona- a mezcal margarita with some spice. Partner had the cloudy colada and you would've thought the glass had a hole in it (Hence no photo). I absolutely love the vibe and the cocktails here, but the food seriously needs an overhaul…read more My husband and I went last night to celebrate our anniversary and the bread and butter was awesome, per usual. The deviled eggs were to die for and I wish we had ordered twice as many. I also ordered goat cheese and crackers and the figs with prosciutto, however, and I just was not digging either one. I was expecting fresh figs with cured prosciutto, and that was just not the dish offered on the menu. I'm an ignorant diner, so it was my bad, but to be honest, I wish this place offered less "foodie food" and more just palatable, easy, approachable food. I had a gin and tonic and the specialty banana cocktail, both of which were amazing. We love this place and will continue to visit frequently, I just need more menu options for "picky" eaters. Like, just give me a bread bowl with some chowder and I'll be happy. Or, some fish and chips. I don't need gourmet, I just need some "easy" food while I enjoy all the amazing cocktails.

These guys have been on my list for years now. Friends who live an hour away have tried it, and I…read morehadn't. Tons of local friends rave about it. There was even a YEE up here a couple weeks ago, further reminding me that I am behind on the local spirits train. We finally got lively enough yesterday to stop by here after lunch. We had to squeeze our visit in between other activities, but even an artificially-shortened visit was enough to get us flipping over what's on offer. It's one of the many cool food/drink spaces in the big shell on Sunset. Short, shallow concrete steps walking up, then several different spaces warrened together once you're inside. Everything is welcoming and spotless, and all cleanable: all wood, glass, and other hard materials. It's stylish and easy to enjoy. We tried flights of 3 vodkas, 4 gins, a liqueur, and a whiskey. We joined the bottle club on the spot, which got us tastes of 2 more liqueurs and another whiskey. In related news, for the rest of my life, I may never remember how to spell "liqueur" for any longer than maybe 10 seconds. The flights are wonderfully cheap--$10 to try 4 vodkas, 1/2-ounce pours each. Most are flavored already with ingredients from all over the culinary spectrum--sweet, savory, etc. We loved the mint, citrus, and three-tea vodkas, buying a bottle of the latter. They bring a shot of tonic water to blend with the shots as you go, to your own ratio. You immediately get all kinds of ideas for mixing these with flavored bubbly waters and other ingredients, turning them into endless varieties of vodka sodas. They make cocktails on site and also suggest tons of recipes for mixing drinks with their different spirits. It's all a big Lego set for your liver. The gins were so good, and came with tonic water to blend to taste. Both the martini-style and G&T-style had tons of big aromatics and really had a savory quench to them, not the sandy hollow feel you sometimes get after a sip of gin. The barrel-infused gin was even more interesting, and would be fine as a neat sipper (that's so cool to find in a distillery with such a clear mix & cocktail focus). The chai liqueur was like a special holiday treat--it doesn't sound like the sugariest spirit on the market (not even close), but it had a special dessert treat quality without a doubt. The holiday gin was kinda ho-hum for me, with the holiday spices seeming to cancel out the botanicals and leaving a pretty tight and neutral flavor profile. The whiskey was clean and didn't show any burn, but it's still young and so far isn't sporting a flashy barrel quality. The port-cask version that came out with the club-member tastes showed more barrel, and a clear port quality too. There was also a lemongrass-ginger liqueur, along with a mint-chocolate pour. Both were amazing dessert-drink candidates, though by no means were they overly sweet. The lemongrass one would blend well into a tall summer cocktail, and the mint/cacao would turn into a cool wintry pour with a heavier body. And you could probably do 50 different other things with each of them. The staff were super welcoming and open, telling us all kinds of stuff about how they make the spirits and all the other cool stuff that they do. They clearly have built on their success, with tons of swag for sale and lots of custom-branded stuff for them. Their branding is really appealing, too. We came home with two new bottles and will pick up the club release in about month. This feels like a great way to put a couple fancier clear spirits on the bar at home every so often.

Owner was gracious enough to include a tour which is not typical for Sundays. Their process and growth was fascinating and I could spend hours learning about their efforts. Food options were limited although the brie, fig jam, and rosemary crackers (cheesemongers cheese & salami plate) was a good palate cleanser. Tried several cocktails and a flight of 4 spirits. They have such a large variety of spirits from spicy (hatch pepper vodka for ex) to intensely aromatic (waquavit for ex) to very sweet (falemum for ex).
