Memelas
B J.

Warm, nice atmosphere...very inviting and friendly greeter and waitress. She was incredibly sweet and very hard working. I had the lunch memelas. Very simple but incredibly tasty. They clearly make everything in their kitchen. Very flavorful and authentic. Reasonably priced. I look forward to going back.

Mole Negro Wings

I fell in love with Oaxaca food so I marked this place and made an effort to check it out! I got the black mole wings, Chapulines Fiesteros and traditional tlayuda. Food was good but the tlayuda was a bit bland. I would have liked it with more flavour. Service was great and fast, and lots of seating available!

Verde chicken enchiladas

Extremely flavorful Spanish food. There is something about simple food that tastes amazing without all the condiments to make it palatable. Hubby loved he's wet mole burrito, which was HUGE! I had the verde enchiladas. The green enchilada sauce was my favorite party of the meal! Unfortunately, they ran out of the quesabirria but I was happy with my backup choice. We shared a horchata drink with our toddler. He loved that tasty beverage. Service was slight slow but it was one sever for the entire restaurant. We didn't mind being patient. Quaint little spot in Edmonds. We warned that parking sucks and plan accordingly. Thanks for the yummy mea.

Probably the most authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever been to , which made me study the menu and google a few things. Liked the authentic offerings and the place was packed . Pros - small space but lots of tables. They can pack the house. Was there on a Friday and ppl were waiting outside at times- a good sign! - very friendly service!! I've been here twice, once for drinks and the food looked so good, we made a plan to come back for dinner. - tasty entrees and the salsa had a strong spice factor! Loved that! - nice presentation - the chips and guac are handmade and delicious . (You pay for the chips and salsa here. ) - the dessert doughnuts with mango and chocolate sauce were a fun option Served fresh and warm. Mmmmmm! Meh - being a heavy veggie / limited meat eater, there are limited options. That's ok, I get it. Wish there were more but I settled on the tacos which were delicious. Would have loved more spice and a saucey drizzle to accompany it. Loved it served with their delicious spicy salsa! - the drinks are pretty and hand muddled , but not strong . Had a skinny jalapeño marg, lots of fresh fruit and jalapenos which filled the glass, just didn't taste or feel the alcohol. Same with the cadillac marg. - when we were here, the drink orders were backed up so there was quite a wait. I'm not a fan of getting our dinner before drinks so that was disappointing. Tip- order drinks asap and wait on the food , and allow extra time when it's busy. Good news- The kitchen was efficient! If you're looking for authentic options, go here!!

Enmoladas Lunch

We went for lunch and I'm glad we came here! We started with margaritas--they were an appropriate strength for early afternoon and had all kinds of citrus cut into them. We had the Tacos Dorados Lunch and the Enmoladas Lunch. Amazing presentation and of course I love mole! Strongly recommend--enjoy!!!

In short: The most-gourmet Mexican place I've visited. Dead serious. Killer spirits list, too. In long: No, I haven't tried Mexican places all over, and, no, none outside the U.S., either. But this is easily the most-impressive spot so far. I still love my taco shops/trucks, Mexican sports bars, and family-style places, and will keep hitting them and trying new ones. But this one is firmly in that #1 spot for pure food love. It's in an old strip mall at what used to be Five Corners. I guess it's still Five Corners, though the corners became a big roundabout some years ago. There's a super-hot place next door that gets packed (for very good reason), but even though we scored the last parking spot last night, there were still a couple tables open here. Not only is this now the spot I'll happily visit when I can't get a table next door, I'll be coming here first quite a bit, too. There are plenty of windows on two sides, giving it that nice bright corner-suite feel. The booths run back farther around the corner if you want a bit more privacy. You walk in past a decent-sized bar with an extremely-impressive selection of tequilas and mezcals. Service is warm and friendly from the second you set foot inside. The owner's on the floor working, wearing a house t-shirt like everyone else. We had waters and menus instantly, and drinks not long after that. They have over a dozen cocktails, heavily focused on mezcal, and over a dozen margs, too. We tried a tamarind marg, a taranjol (mezcal with grapefruit and Squirt...yes, Squirt), and a curacao mezcalita. The mezcalita was that cartoonish blue from the curacao, but it was shockingly delicious with the smokiness of the mezcal. I could very easily overdo it on cocktails here. I didn't even start messing with neat pours of the good stuff yet, either. Chips and guac Yes, you have to pay for them here. They're amazing. Get them anyway. The chips themselves are fresh and light, though almost no place around makes their own tortillas to turn into chips, so I'd be shocked if they were 100% house-made. Warm, fresh-tasting, and crisp, though. Two good green salsas on the plate, plus a dish of excellent house-made guac. Tlayuda We had to Google this. A lot of American restaurants serve something that might look vaguely similar to this and call it "Mexican pizza," but it's just a passing resemblance. Yes, it's a large toasted tortilla laid flat, covered with stuff, and sliced into quarters. They offer it with your choice of meats, a couple of which are not on menus elsewhere around here AFAIK. We opted for the cecina, which is cured pork, and it is delectable. Some veg, some crema, some amazing orange salsa with a bit of warmth to the spices. Really good. Mole negro I ordered this with chicken, and it was fantastic. Two house-made chewy tortillas come with it, along with some rice with veg in it. Tons of sauce. Sweet, savory, irresistible. Black bean sauce They kinda imply it's amazing by featuring it in lots of dishes. We ordered a cup on the side out of sheer curiosity, and immediately started combining it with bites of everything else. It's amazing--great texture, adds depth of flavor to everything. No clashing flavor profiles anywhere on the table. A childhood friend of mine saw photos I posted while we were eating, and chimed in to say that he's never been in a bad mood while eating Mexican food. I like that. This meal made me feel like I'd kinda lifted a veil from my eyes by trying new things. I want to keep coming back here until their food turns into comforting old favorites for me. Might not take long.

Chicken Chilies Rellenos

We tried this place last night, and it was amazing! The restaurant is small with limited seating, and we had to wait several minutes, but it was definitely worth the wait! The food here is more regional based from the southern area of Mexico called Oaxaca. This is not the same as most of the other Mexican restaurants more commonly found here. You will notice right away by the menu that it is a little different but similar at the same time. We were a party of 5 and had a Burrito that was huge, Enchaladas Verdes that was the best I've tasted, Chicken Mole which was absolutely incredible, and a chicken Chilies Rellenos which was equally delicious! Our server was also the bartender, and the entire staff was friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a unique Mexican restaurant with a different regional flavor, come try this place, and you will not be disappointed!

Enmoladas

Hola! Experiencia Maravillosa ! Just 4 of our group of 6 were available tonight (8/2) and the 2 who missed it missed out. Jordyn served us well. We started with chips with 2 salsa , both special. Ginger beer, and margarita, other bebidas I waited knowing my meal would be good. I was hungry. There it is Enmoladas. Chicken stuffed tortilla with dark mole sauce. Ah, smoky, quietly spicy, and smooth with hint of chocolate. I'd like to kiss the chef.

Enchiladas de Coloradito

We had the carne asada fries as an appetizer and it was amazingggg and it made us so excited about the actual food and then the actual food came and it was just blahhh. It lacked flavor, and was just not it. The service was good and the server asked us if we didn't like the food because it was left untouched and we said yes but the food still showed up in our bill. So I was just confused. Would go there for appetizers and desert but not food.

Very good vegetarian enchilada. Tasted fresh and not drowning in cheese. Their chips and salsa were great. Had a salad that was not good.

There is limited indoor seating, which I opted to sit by the entrance. This allowed me to experience this indie cafe's vibe. It had a bit of European flair which was pleasant. Definitely the two female baristas (owners?) handled the constant line with efficient cadence. Dealing with orders at the window, orders at the counter, serving up pastries, and dealing with dishes. Pretty impressive actually. I had driven by this spot many times this past year, usually hitting up other indie cafes in Edmonds. Featured beans were from Camber, roasted up in Bellingham. Spot on mocha. Glad I detoured and stayed awhile after the pop up. Even caught up briefly with another Yelp Elite/All Star/IGer. Adding this to my Edmonds rotation. Recommended!

After 4PM, they have a bar next door called Bar Americano that serves non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. The bartenders were friendly too cuz we were just stopping by but said we'd be back at another time to try this place out! Parking is street, although you probably could park at Ace Hardware. I was told by a bartender (who is not the owner) that I should not return, despite never being disruptive, intoxicated, or in violation of any rules here. The reason given was unrelated to my conduct at this bar and stemmed from a serious personal safety concern involving a drink that I had raised elsewhere about another patron who also frequents this establishment. The interaction left me feeling that it was more important for the other patron to feel comfortable here than it was for me to feel comfortable or welcome. As a woman raising a safety concern, being dismissed and told not to come back rather than having the situation handled neutrally or referred to management was especially upsetting. Rather than addressing the concern professionally, I was told not to return so that someone else would not have to worry about encountering me. Being treated this way -- despite having done nothing wrong at this bar -- felt unfair and unprofessional. We did not actually come to eat because we had dinner reservations a few hours later, but we did want something small to nosh on. The menu options actually sounded pretty tasty. We only ordered the fried pickles as we didn't want anything heavy. The pickles were tasty, but they needed maybe 1 more minute in the fryer. The inside of the batter was just a tiny bit undercooked. But we still gobbled them up. Aside from that, I was slightly disappointed that they didn't actually have a lot of "tiki" styled drinks on their signature drink menu. I was expecting it to be a whole theme. It really wasn't. I think that's a missed opportunity for sure. I would really lean into that theme, since it's your name and decor. The hubby ordered the Tom Tai. It started out kinda tasty on top, but whatever alcohol was at the bottom of the glass (which was the only time I actually tried a sip) was just god awful. Have no clue what it was but it was like turpentine. Not a balance cocktail, but maybe just putting it in a shaker to mix it might have helped. Whatever alcohol was on the bottom of the drink was not good at all. Staff was friendly. Lots of tv's to watch sports. We "might" come back to give it another try based on what the menu sounded like next time we are in the area.
