I really wanted to like this place, but my experience today was a bit disappointing. The staff seemed unsure about some of the coffee orders--one employee mentioned she hadn't made iced coffee before. Even though the shop wasn't busy when I arrived, several people came and went before I received my drink. I checked in after a while and was told it would be brought to me, but it ended up taking about 20 minutes, and the coffee was mostly melted ice by then. I'm hoping this was just an off day, because the space itself has a lot of potential. read more

Inside a cute coffee shop off the main strip of downtown, you might not expect a fun coffee flavor or a great crepe, but you do expect some of the hallmark, "home is where the heart is" charm of a small New England town coffee shop. And while the service at Casa Java isn't bad... it's not great, either. When the food was brought out, the crepe was served with plastic flatware, which was more or less tossed down on the table. Pair this was the cafe's absolute refusal to provide a cup of water - certainly not legally required, but common courtesy to be sure - and you get a less than stellar taste in your mouth for Casa Java. (Truly, when breakfast and a coffee plus tip is over $50, and you can't spare a cup of water... how bad is the situation you're in?) Could I have bought two bottles of water? Sure. But it's the principle of the thing. In summary, four stars for great food, and some fun coffee options... but one less (and probably 2 less future customers, to be honest) for lackluster service, watered down iced coffee, and a pretty expensive brunch on a menu with no prices. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the area. The inside is so cute, plenty of seating for a small cafe. There's also outside seats for when it's nice out! The Dulce de Leche latte is amazing, I've only had it iced but oh my. It is sweet so if you don't go for a sweeter coffee, it's not going to be your jam. And their breakfast sandwiches are divine. I always get a ham egg and cheese on a croissant and it's perfect every time. The workers have always been so kind and so lovely. No notes. 10/10 read more

So so so so so bomb. Love this place. Pollos con champonones crepe, and a bana bread iced latte - you're in for a great breakfast. Usual go to is the Terry's everything but was very surprised after trying the champonones the first time. That's the new regular order. The latte's here are so bomb. Ended up here by accident - no parking a local diner, saw their sign, and decided "why not?". So glad we did. I got Strawberry Fields crepes which was strawberries, Nutella, and white chocolate - delicious and reminded me of a trip to Montreal. Took a real risk on the Strawberry Fields Latte (I'm usually not a fruity coffee person) - it was delicious! I was stunned. So good that my husband, who had thoroughly enjoyed his cappuccino, got one on the way out. The place is small and intimate but also has lots of outdoor seating. Definitely recommend. read more

Not impressed. First of all, they only have five car spots outside, so parking is stressful. Second, the coffee is just bad. I got the oat milk latte with cinnamon powder, and I threw the cup out after a few sips. The vibe, though, is extremely cozy and welcoming, so I relaxed for a bit and enjoyed the rumba flamenco music they had playing. But the coffee just wasn't worth it. read more

I think giving three stars may be generous here. Order at the counter. The front end woman did not know much about the menu. I asked what fresh bagels or pastries that they offer this morning. THey said none....we have bialys and bagels that are fresh delivered and then frozen. - Er no thanks. At least their water was hot enough to brew a cup of tea. COVID guidelines seem to be in place with signage, masks and gloves. Bathroom was clean but the paper towel dispenser was broken. We order the chicken club crepe- which came out cold? Cheese was melted inside and bacon was hot but the crepe was not off the griddle. It also had a topping of shredded yellow cheese, cherry tomatoes, and scallions which made it pretty. Did not taste bad but I think the crepe was previously made in advance. ENglish muffins were not buttered. Service was absent and lacking. We were the only customers there on a Sunday morning. It was chilly inside as well as the cold metal chairs. ALso the front door walkway was all ice and not shoveled. This is the way to exit and a safety issue. (see photo). read more

We are new to the area, and trying every coffee place around to find our spot. This place didn't even make the list unfortunately. Upon arriving, we thought the parking was really convenient, and even had an entrance with a ramp connected for easy access. Upon entering, the decor looked awesome. It has a great layout, but right off the bat something didn't feel right. We were the only ones there, and despite being names "Casa Java" it didn't smell like coffee at all. The staff were very friendly, and let us take our time with the menu, after explaining it was our first time. I ordered a medium iced latte with a croissant, while my husband order a Milky Way latte with a chocolate muffin for the grand total of about $20. When the food came out, I was shocked. The croissant was undercooked and looked like someone rolled it in a ball. It was absolutely disgusting (see my photo). Both drinks were burnt and we are fairly certain the milk was sour. The chocolate muffin was the only decent thing about our order. We decided to go here because of the positive reviews, so I'm not sure why our experience was drastically different. However, I am certain that I won't be back here any time soon. read more

Considering the earlier reviews: They no longer have styrofoam cups but plastic flatware is the only option. I don't like plastic flatware either but for those who don't know: professional dishwashing is A THING!! Unfortunately not all places have that capacity. I love Casa Java The crepes here are fantastic. They are massive, full of flavor, and prepared very well. The menu has great variety so whether you enjoy something sweet or savory they have you covered. I love the vast selection of coffee, both hot and iced, that they have as well. I live right around the corner from this cafe. I went in a couple of years ago with my daughter and we enjoyed what we got. A few weeks ago my boyfriend wanted to get something to eat for breakfast. I mentioned this place and we went. My crepe was good, but my boyfriend ordered an apple cinnamon crepe. Half way through eating it he asked me to taste it, he thought the apple filling didn't taste right. So I did and it was bad. He went up to the counter and asked to speak with the manager or the owner. Neither were available, so he explained his issue. He mentioned to one of the employees to try it because they shouldn't be using it further. The girl did and spit it right out. She agreed. We left and thought well stuff happens not going to hold it against them. Yesterday I decided to take my boyfriend breakfast. His business is right down the street from casa Java and figured it would be convenient. I called ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches on English muffins and a avacado toast. I told the young man on the phone to please make sure the English muffins were toasted. I was so looking forward to surprising him and having a nice breakfast with my honey, unfortunately that wasn't the case. They didn't toast the English muffins and they didn't toast my bread for the Avacado toast. The container my avacado toast was put it was very strange for what I ordered. My boyfriend was disgusted and called. He asked to speak to the owner. The employee said sorry not in. So he asked for a phone number, nope they wouldn't give that. He asked for her email, nope not even that. Let me tell you, as a past restaurant owner you deal with situations not dodge them. This owner doesn't take ownership of the issues at her business. My boyfriend told the employee the issue and he said I toasted your English muffins myself. It took me everything not to bring it back there and show them. Also ordered coffee and it was cream barely coffee. Never will we return. Wanted to support local but when local can't provide good service or food, other choices to be made. The interior has a nice energy, and the coffee and food are decent. Unfortunately, though, in my role as Forkwitch, I have to give this cafe one star because the cafe ONLY offers plasticware to customers and there is not even an option to use real cutlery. They also serve cold drinks in styrofoam cups. It is 2022, people! There is no excuse, especially if people are dining in. Let's just throw our trash right into the ocean. Not sure what the poor reviews are all about. I have eaten there many times with friends and we have never had a bad meal. Nothing spoiled or cooked improperly, just plain delicious! We've had the crepes, wraps, muffins and various coffees. My go to coffee is the cappuccino and have had it at very upscale restaurants in Boston. Casa Java makes a very decent cappuccino! Cozy. Friendly. Workable. Casa Java's the off the strip alternative to the more common, but noisy and variable-tempered Rail Grind experience downtown. This is the friendly neighborhood Jennifer Aniston alternative to the Grind's Angelina-Jolie-in-Billy-Bob-Era temperament. Service is friendlier and well-equipped for those working on the go. Cozy seating, quick service, and a quiet, but not empty space combine to make for a great cafe experience you can actually be "Friends" with versus avoiding like that plague if you intend on having any sort of conversation or down time to sip a great cup of coffee. Note: parking outside can be limited, but location off the Main Street means plenty of easy parking on the same street without issue. read more

I love the food and ambiance of Casa Java. Everything is tasty and well made. Their coffee is decent, normally when you get something iced and they have to add flavor, you can taste the syrup cause it doesn't dissolve as well in iced coffee but not here. The crepe itself it sooo good it reminds me of my grandmas crepes. The drinks are pretty quick to come out and the crepes come out at a reasonable time. I don't think it's overpriced at all. People are too used to the crap at Dunkin's to really be able to judge a small businesses overhead and cost per item. It's well worth it to support a small business. If you'd like to go get cheap food just keep going to Dunkin's. Easy solution. read more

I had wanted to try crepes for a very long time. I stopped on the way home and picked up berry crepes. I spent almost $11 and when I got home I found that I couldn't even eat them. Tried this place for the first time today. I had been to riding the rail trail through Derry and was starving. Cute little place. Very clean. Casual but still a good place for a coffee date. The workers were wicked polite and jovial. I ordered the Terrys Everything sandwich (or something like that) they substituted the ham for turkey no problem. It may have been my ravenous hunger from biking but I devoured that sandwich and every bite was delicious. I will absolutely be coming back to get that sandwich again. A+ read more

What a find! Casa Java Café was just the remedy for some blustery winter weather last week. The flavorful coffee, delicious crêpes and welcoming interior (renovated 19th century house) make this a great place to hang out and relax. Also happy that we got to chat with the friendly owner, Gina Hannon. She comes from a family of Coffee growers, so you know she's serving the real deal. We hope they take our suggestion and start serving the crêpes with vanilla ice cream. That would literally be the icing on the cake! read more

I was skeptical of another coffee and breakfast sandwich place coming to Derry. There's enough already so I was happy to hear they did crepes because the food options in Derry are pretty awful and generic all around. The old building it opened in is gorgeous and they restored it wonderfully with exposed wood, brick and beam. It's modern and hip and a great indoor place to hang once the winter months get here. In the better months there is limited outdoor seating to enjoy. The crepes are very good. The chicken pesto and tomato and cheese are great choices and personal favorites. All your coffee, chai and espresso needs can be met here as well, plus smoothies, breakfast sandwiches and pastry, though the muffins and danish we got were very dry and not very good. There is plenty to pick from so you'll have options. The service was pleasant and the staff very nice. The prices were a bit high, but if you want quality you pay for it so it's understood. It's not a place I'd frequent every day, but it's a great place that does something different in a town with not a lot of options. It's miles better than the garbage at the Grind cafe down the street so give it a try. read more

What a great find in Derry!! The type of hip cafe you normally find while on vacation in some cool place. Stumbled across it while driving through Derry. Noticed someone was having delicious looking mimosas so I decided to try the bloody . Nice and spicy the way I like it. I had s delicious ham,egg and cheese savory crepe. They have a wide variety of sweet, as well. Plus sandwiches, coffees , smoothies and fresh baked goods . The shop is a great old renovated home with seating inside as well as the front porch . I feel like three stars is being generous, but I am hopeful this place can improve. Aesthetically this place is close to perfect. Exposed beams, exposed brick walls, outside seating, and well decorated. It's hard not to fall in love with it from the appearance. The staff was friendly and polite. The food was decent. The crepes were nice, but they don't offer a detailed list of what is in each crepe. One of the crepes we ordered had Nutella in the name, but no Nutella could be tasted. It appeared as if it was just chocolate and no Nutella. Now onto the espresso. This is where it all went to hell in a hand basket. I've never tasted such flavorless espresso in my life. It was quite frankly awful. I didn't hear an espresso grinder going, so I can only assume it is a pod/ capsule system. I tried to get a look at the machine, and it didn't appear to be a name brand machine. How in 2017 you can open a "cafe" and serve pod based espresso? What makes it really disappointing is that they spent all of this money on renovations only to skimp on the espresso machine. I understand you don't want to spend $7,000 on a nice espresso machine, but if you are going to open a coffee shop with Java in the name, the first thing you should spend money on is the espresso machine. If for some reason it is a real espresso machine, they should stop buying their espresso from restaurant depot and actually buy from a real roaster. All in all, I won't come back unless I'm too lazy to make my own crepe with real Nutella. I'd rather drive the 15 minutes to Manchester and go to The Local Moose. read more
