Okay.. I'm going middle of the road. 3 stars as of now. A few days back it would have been 4 1/2. I LOVED the ambiance! Great looking cafe, chill vibe. I was smitten. At any rate, on to the review. My 1st visit there, I ordered the California Turkey club sandwich with homemade chips. I saw online that they made homemade salt n vinegar chips, so I told the lady that's what I wanted.. SALT N VINEGAR CHIPS. She said okay and put in my order. She served it, & everything looked great! The sandwich was thick and fabulous, with good quality bacon, avocado slices, exc.. so yummy! The chips were plain though!! (I HATE plain chips.) Had she informed me they no longer make salt n vinegar flavored chips when I asked for them, I would have 100% chose the fries or sweet potato fries. So that was annoying. I akso bought a cookie that fell out of my purse onto the bathroom floor with part of the cookie not in the plastic wrap.. so that was like $4.50ish down the drain.. Grrr.. bad luck! (That was my own fault though) Anyway.. my friend got the Mexican street-corn salad, which was fabulous!! I was a little jealous, I'm not going to lie.. although my sandwich was terrific, so I knew I'd be back to try a salad.. I loved the ambiance of the place so much, I went again today. Sadly, I have to say today was a big let down. I ordered the Local #11 French dip. The fries were great, they had like a herby rosemary salt on them.. but the sandwich (the main part of the meal) was HORRIBLE! The roast beef was so tough/ chewy I felt like a wolf trying to rip through it. It wasn't really edible. That was a big disappointment because 1. I was so looking forward to trying it & 2. It cost me 13/$14 bucks or so plus tip.. I also got a salad to go, for dinner tonight.. I have high hopes for it since my friends was so good. But it's a different one. The bread was very fresh- and it's 3 layers of bread...the turkey was NOT cold cuts but fresh sliced turkey...the bacon was the thick cut kind not the skinny skimpy type...love the hint of alfalfa and the fresh veggies to top it off. Fabulous sandwich...just a tad too much mayonnaise for my taste, but still delicious. Those chips were also pretty amazing. We had the option to order a different side, but we were both so glad we got the chips!! My friend ordered the French Dip. She said it was very tasty and very fresh, but was surprised that the jus was already in her sandwich, in addition to being in the ramekin. We hadn't seen that before. She also stated that the Boursin was not Boursin, but probably a homemade version due to the different texture. It was in an old mill building, giving fun industrial vibes with pipes, brick, and beams, making it truly look like someone took advantage of used space. Food was great, and I love when a place commits to its theme. I got the tidewater latte, which was maple something flavor, it was yummy, not too sweet. I was sad they had real plates but only to go cups for coffee. I feel like mugs would be such a nice addition. The windows were huge, and for an industrial building, it just had such good natural light that I would've loved to look out to the Merrimack River and sip my latte in a mug. The food is a whole different story: ordered the carne asada street tacos, and got the mini cannolis, they took over 25 min to get the tacos out, they were very, very cold, the tortillas were as cold as if they just took them out of the fridge, the cannolis were soggy. Update: the kitchen remade the tacos, the skirt steak was very good and the rice was very delicious, the person making the rice should be very proud of it, it had the perfect texture, consistency and spices for it to be deserving of accompanying any Mexican dish, something I don't say lightly as this is my background and I know a good rice when I see one. My only advice at this point is to find corn tortillas that remain soft after heating them, that is not an easy feat in America as many tortilla makers don't understand the nixtamalization process, or switch to flour tortillas which would pair well with skirt steak or as it's called in Mexico "Arrachera" steak. read more

What a lovely find. I came to Manchester for a wedding and I had one free morning while my girlfriend was getting her hair done and walked 10 minutes to the waterfront Café for brunch. I got the Mexican omelette for a very reasonable price. The potatoes were perfectly crisp The sourdough bread was good and the omelette was finally done with a sin almost creep like egg enclosure wrapped around the contents inside. And I think I would've preferred more beans and no corn but it was otherwise delicious. Waterworks Cafe is the newest cafe in the Millyard offering freshly prepared meals for breakfast and lunch, as well as fresh baked goods, snacks, coffee, tea, and cooler drinks. This place fills the void of a full service cafe in this area since Cafe 324 moved out of the Millyard a while ago. The cafe is located at the Waumbec Mill in a nice refurbished space (back of building facing the Merrimack River & I-293 traffic) with polish old wood floors, high ceilings, beams, and exposed brick walls. There are several tables and booths (self seating) in the bright dining area. The place is order and pay first at the counter, just be sure to grab a laminated menu near the entrance. Specials are posted near the counter. After placing your order and paying, you are given a number card which is placed at your table and your order is brought out to your table when ready. When you're finished eating, you clear your own table and bus your own dishes. Some of the breakfast offerings (until 11AM) include breakfast sandwiches, souffles, frittatas, French toast, blintzes, and bagels. Some of the lunch offerings (11AM to close) include soup of the day, specialty salads, hummmus plates, grilled sandwiches, burgers, pasta dishes, and grilled salmon. As Chris mentioned, the prices here are reasonable with menu pricing under $10. I stopped here for lunch and all of the menu items I looked over sounded pretty good! I decided on the Land, Air, and Sea Slider Trio ($8.95) served with parmesan fries and a Raspberry White Chocolate Brownie ($1.75) (plastic wrapped self serve) for dessert. I was given a number after I paid and took a seat at an open table. The food was brought out to my table in about 10 minutes after ordering. The presentation of the food looked very nice with the 3 sliders lined up on a long rectangular plate and the parmesan fries were served in a small metal bucket with paper. Each of the sliders I tried was AMAZING, served on buttered toasted slider buns! The Bison Burger (Land) was very juicy topped with red onion jam, pepper jack cheese, jicama slaw, & BBQ sauce. The Southwestern Chicken Slider (Air) had a juicy chargrilled chicken breast stacked with avocado slices, juicy slices of smoked bacon, leaf lettuce, tomato slice, and spicy aioli. The Crab Cake Slider (Sea) had a handmade soft crab cake stacked with fresh corn avocado salsa, leaf lettuce, tomato slice, and tomato remoulade. The parmesan fries were hot and crispy and covered in parmesan cheese and seasonings. This was definitely one of the better tasting lunches I've had in a while. Some of my friends know what I had for lunch at Waterworks and they want to stop here now. The service was friendly on my recent visit, though the person running the register was also serving entrees to the customers in the dining room as double duty. This was a mixed bag. We were on a road trip and made a special detour to come here based on the reviews so maybe I just ordered wrong. I wanted to get 1/2 a falafel sandwich and a salad which was listed on the menu even though the falafel was listed as a classic sandwich which is what the combo consisted of, I was told I could not do that. So I ordered just the falafel which was not a good choice it was so dry , I went back and asked for additional taziki sauce. Well it was more like sour cream and garlic ? I am not sure but was just not good at all. I rarely send food back but this was so disappointing that I took it back and they graciously offer me another sandwich.
