I visited Fody's tonight on a date and had an absolutely wonderful time. The service and the environment were both excellent. I really wish I could remember our servers name so I could give her a proper shout out here. She walked the line of always being there right when we needed something but was not obtrusive at all, and she promptly got the Celtics on tv when I asked. On to the food. We split the pot stickers app and the bbq burger. Both were very good. I am very particular about burgers, and this thing was legit. Decided to try someplace new since my sister was in town. Fody's Great American Tavern was on my list of places to try, so off we went! We were greeted as we walked the door by a friendly waitstaff who said we could sit anywhere. This restaurant is large with plenty of seating on two floors and outside, as well. We decided to sit at a high atop table on the second floor. There is a decent draught beer list and we each enjoyed a Lunch from Maine Beer Company. We had Chicken Caprese Sandwiches which were a special that night. They were delicious and the accompanying fries were also very good. Our server was friendly and our food and drinks were delivered quickly. There is plenty of parking in their private lot. Would not hesitate to return. read more

Had lots of good experiences here & food has always been great especially burgers, unfortunately today was bad, didn't seem that busy but looked like they were having kitchen problems. Totally forgot my Chowder took off bill, ordered Fish & Chips which should be a no brainer. It was terrible like reheated, chewy & honestly a kids portion, so bad I sent it back. Server was great & apologetic, they expedited repeat order but fish was pretty bland & fries were well overcooked. We finally stopped and tried Fody's Tavern, on the hill in Derry. They have a really nice large outside deck, that is partially covered. It was a beautiful evening and we wanted to eat outside. The menu is diverse and really has something for everyone. Seafood, pizza, burgers, sandwiches and more. Nice draft beer selections too. I went with the smash burger, w/ fries and salad. ALso had the mac and cheese w/ short rib which was also very good. Prices on seafood were high I thought so we skipped that. We will def return to try more dishes and hang out on that great deck! read more

Fody's Great American Tavern - Amazingest cobb salad in Sothern NH! - American Near Me - Derry, New Hampshire

If you're familiar with the phrase, "Ya gotta take the bitter with the better", then you'll likely relate to my first impressions with this particular Fody's. You see, I liked almost everything about this place....except for one thing (seems like there's always one). So far as I know, there are only two Fody's in Southern NH. Most of you know I've already reviewed the Nashua one. Without retreading the same territory, all you need to know about the difference between the two is the fact that the Derry location is much bigger. Probably helps that they have a stand-alone building as opposed to their more compacted Nashua location. That's life downtown, I guess. The menus are pretty much identical. I wish I could say the same for the execution, however (we'll get to that in a minute). But for the most part, the food here is still really good. Especially the pizza! I was honestly surprised. We were attending my bestie's daughter's Sweet 16 party. Which meant renting out the entire first floor (kudos to the management for being so accommodating) with a dedicated bartender, streamable music via Bluetooth speakers, and a smorgasbord type setup of various appetizers and a few pizzas. I won't go over every appetizer. But the highlights were the spinach artichoke dip and pizzas. The cheese steak egg rolls were okay, but not something I'd really go out of my way to order again. I'd give the pizza an 8 out of 10. It wasn't quite NY style, but it was damn close. About that burger I had though.. Wifey got one, too (the Bleu cheeseburger) and BLUF: both were criminally under seasoned. I wish the travesties stopped there, but noooo...the buns were inexplicably hard as rocks. At first, I thought maybe they toasted them a bit too long. But they actually tasted stale as if they grabbed them from a sample plate. Anyways, whole thing tasted like it was cooked by a donkey. Which is weird, considering their Nashua counterpart makes excellent burgers. Like...some of the best we've ever tasted in the NH area. I'm telling you...these two locations are polar opposites when it comes to the burgers. And I have no idea why. Even the texture was off. So, I gotta give these obviously pan seared grease hockey pucks a 3 out of 10. If you wanna try a real burger, head to the Nashua location. But like I said, everything else about this place is really good. I briefly checked out the upstairs bar just to see what it was like. However, I quickly left after about 30 seconds because it was way too peopley up there. They are easy to spot on Rockingham road. Worth a go if you live in or nearby my former hometown. And I'm giving Fody's in Derry 4 almost-NY style pizzas out of 5. read more

so we took our foster son who came home to visit out to dinner.It was a Sunday so not a busy night for restaurants. our foster son was coming a little later so we chose Fody's because the would be open a little later. we ordered apps which were we fine and then we all ordered dinner. I ordered a Ruben which advertised it came with beer braised sauekrut. all the meals came and as I was eating mine I noticed My Ruben had no sauekrut.. I asked the waitress to fix the sandwich. she ask me if I wanted to order something else or have the Ruben remade. I chose to have the Ruben remade. To my surprise the Ruben came back the same way with no saurkrut!!! At witch time I told the waitress to just cancel my meal. At no time did the waitress apologize to me about my meal never being correct. I have no idea what happed and how I could report no saurkrut and have the kitchen send it back with no saurkrut! I was in Derry,NH touring some wedding venues with my parents and fiancé and we stopped at Fody's for a quick bite before heading to our next tour and let me tell you! The food was FANTASTIC! Burger was so flavorful and cooked to perfection! French fries were perfectly seasoned! We also got their Dilly Ooh pizza with had mozzarella cheese bacon and pickle slices on it which was also amazing! Definitely recommend and definitely will be going back! read more

Four stars for food and three for service. We've been meaning to check this place out. We finally went last night and the food was surprising. The inside of the restaurant was very nicely done. We started off with some tiger fries, their hand cut fries topped with blue cheese dressing ranch buffalo sauce and scallions. When they came out to fries weren't hot but they were tasty. We did polish off the whole plate! I ordered the salmon over risotto, hubs got the smash burger with rings, our son ordered the kids chicken tenders & fries. Surprisingly, all the fried foods weren't hot, just a little warmer than room temp. ⁉ My salmon was perfectly cooked and HOT and so was the risotto. I thought it was delicious. My hubs' burger was hot and flavorful too. The chicken tenders were well cooked, but like I said, everything fried wasn't hot. The service was ok. The young waitress didn't know the menu and couldn't answer questions about the food. She was pleasant. When we got the bill, we were charged $3 extra for "family size" fries though we didn't ask for them nor were we asked if that's what we wanted. In fact, right before we ordered we decided we didn't want family size. Also, my hubs ordered a scotch neat, listed for 11 bucks. We were charged $3 more. We asked the waitress about the fries and drink and she really didn't explain it well. Basically, said that when you order fries as an app it's automatically upgraded to family size. Really?! Shouldn't that have been a question or confirmation or made clear on the menu? Also, she went to speak to the manger about the drink and came back to explain that because the drink was ordered neat, they poured more and so we were charged for the additional alcohol, but somehow we didn't really get an extra pour. At this point I was like what...? Again, isn't that something you should confirm? Neat just means no ice! Not no ice, but pour more. In the end we got the $3 taken off for the drink but not the fries. We're not balking about an extra $6 charge. But I'm balking about assumptions that are made and lack of communication with customers. All could be easily fixed with a confirmation. We will probably be back again, the food is good. read more

Fody's opened their 2nd location in Derry, at the former Steve N James Tavern building. The original Fody's location opened in 2004 in Nashua. This old two level restaurant and bar was renovated extensively. The first floor houses the main dining room. The second level houses the bar area with seating up at the bar, high top tables, and additional tables and booths plus several flatscreen TVs and digital jukebox. They also have an outdoor wooden deck (not open in colder weather) for outdoor dining and live music entertainment (local musicians). They had a soft opening weekend with a limited food menu. On the first night (March 16), it was so busy with the dining room reserved only for friends and family and the bar upstairs only serving drinks. On the second day (March 17), the food menu was even more limited than the night before with mainly St. Patrick's Day dishes such as corned beef & cabbage, corned beef ruebens, margherita pizza, and kimichi bacon burgers, along with a few appetizers. It is good that this location is starting out not too big yet. Anyways, I stopped in here just after noon on Sunday which happened to be St. Patrick's Day. The downstairs dining room was closed, so only the upstairs bar was open, which was quite busy already. I took a seat at an open high top table.  I was given their limited food menu and drinks menu. The bar offers 15 beers on tap and a full list of cocktails. However, their water tap was not fully functional, so bottled water was given in place of ice water. For a starter, the Steamed Maine Mussels ($12), the 17 mussels were simmered in a red chile, miso butter broth with garlic and seasonings. The mussels were good and soft, but the broth was slightly spicy and very salty. For lunch, the Corned Beef Ruben ($14) thick cuts in smaller pieces of corned beef, sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, 1000 island dressing on toasted marble rye, served with a good amount of house cut fries and dill pickle. The fries were crisp and hot and done right.  However, the corned beef was very chewy and had several pieces of thick fat. The service was pleasant, but the delivery of the food was delayed since the place was very busy and loud. Food runners from the kitchen helped out the waitstaff. It took a while to cash out since there was only one register and my waitress had to wait for another waitress to be done. Overall, not bad on a soft opening weekend for the new Fody's. They still need to work out the kinks first, so give it time. I will return when they are more established and start offering the same specials such as Happy Hour like the Nashua Fody's read more

Deanna - server Sun, Jan 23rd - afternoon Myself & two other friends decided to grab a late lunch at Fodys this Sunday. Our server came over and never introduced herself so we weren't sure what her name was until receiving the bill. We started off ordering our apps & never got checked on. We needed refills on all of our waters which were given in the smallest glasses & we also needed napkins for the wings. (Wings were actually good) We were so thirsty I had seen her running to all other tables and had to call her over. At that point we decided to each grab an alcoholic beverage and requested more water at the same time. 2 of us were splitting a rodeo burger and Caesar salad. The other had ordered a med rare rodeo burger. When the food eventually arrived she dropped it and ran away, never asking if we needed anything, which we did. We STILL needed refill on our waters and a couple of other condiments that we had requested when we had originally ordered. On top of that we needed an extra plate as we told her we were sharing. I also had ordered BBQ on the side for the rodeo burger and it was drenched in BBQ. It took her another 20 minutes until we could get her attention and ask for those things once again and she seemed irritated. Not to mention we were one of her first tables of the afternoon as we saw more joining throughout our visit and we noticed our table becoming less of a priority to her. By the time we got what we needed and went to eat, our shared burger was cold, Caesar had minimal to no dressing and our other friends med-rare burger was well done. We had barely even eaten our food since it was just all messed up. We were very unhappy and unable to let our server know as she was no where to be found & again, never checked on us. Another 15-20 mins goes by and she returns and we ask for the bill. At that point we had been there for so long and still hungry but just wanting to leave. She could clearly see that we didn't eat the overcooked burger, salad with no dressing & cold burger but never asked why and not even offering to take anything off of the check. We paid for awful food that we didn't even eat and had an awful experience with the service given. It is really upsetting as this was one of our more liked spots to go to while we are in the area. I am usually not one to complain but when you work in the industry, you know what to expect and often times are even more understandable in certain circumstances but in this visit it was all around just absolutely unacceptable and a waste of our money and our time. Fody's Tavern in Derry is so good that it deserves a review. I have eaten there twice, and both times were outstanding. The first time I got the California burger, medium, with French fries. The burger was ACTUALLY cooked to medium. I find that it's usually hard to get your burger cooked to what you ask for, unless it's well done. The burger was absolutely delicious. The second time I ordered steak tips, also cooked medium as I had ordered. I upgraded my side of fries to poutine style, and was very pleased that I had. The steak tips seemed tough when I was cutting them, but were nice and tender when eating. Roasted cauliflower appetizer could have been roasted a bit longer but was still delicious and I would eat it every day!!! Cocktails are also delicious and potent. read more

ordered a cold snap, got something else. My mom ordered titos and cranberry, only for cranberry with a splash of Tito's. My youngest got chicken fingers. They were severly burnt (see photo). She didn't complain so we let her eat them. The kids Mac and cheese is tiny, it was good though. My mom I both got a chicken sandwich, the chicken was pretty good. The tater tots weee great. The sweet potato fries we sub-par. My kids got a chocolate milk and an oj. Got the check they were $4 a piece and my daughter got 2 chocolate milks (no free refills). We had an excellent experience at Fodys Derry location. Jen M. was excellent on giving us food advice and made us feel quite at home even though it was quite late. She did not make us feel rushed. I had such high hopes for Fody's! My fiance and I visited for the first time last night and ended up sitting upstairs because downstairs was hosting a function. Not a big deal for me. We got there right at 5 and were able to be seated right away. It took 10 minutes to be greeted by our waitress. Wasn't sure how busy she was, so I'll give her the benifit of the doubt that she was busy. My fiance and I both ordered the rum punch thats on the menu, we both enjoyed it. I ordered the BBQ Burger with the onion rings for a 2$ upcharge. I asked for the burger medium, it came back well done and dry. The brisket ends that were on top were also dry. All covered in a tangy BBQ sauce to try and hide the over cooked mess. The onion rings were not worth the 2$ upcharge, especially when Tbones is down the street making better rings for free. My fiance asked for a none menu item based on things from the menu, because she is picky. It came back wrong, but again, not a menu item. They nonetheless made it right. She said that her chicken sandwich was good. Unfortunately, I don't think this place will be known for their food if they don't bring their standards up in the kitchen. Ohh my goodness I am stunned I have never seen such customer service in MY LiFE!!! The lobster BLT was heavenly. But if you want something cheaper get the buffalo wings. They have the perfect amount of sauce creamy ranch and fresh carrots and celery. I have a very sensitive stomach and one drop of hot-sauce will send my stomach up in flames. But the wings were spicy but at the same time they didn't make my stomach feel like a firework show. I actually know Fodey he is my uncles brother.
