The manager here was so Incredi rude to us. I sat down outside with a friend while another friend looked at the menu to order food and we were chsed away in the rudest way. Perhaps they were mad that i had a dessert from the bakery next door but that shouldnt matter ! My friend was going to get food from there and the manager chased all 5 of us away ! We tried to reason with him but he was so bent on being right and not allowing us to sit with my friend while she got her burger - which by the way he said they were not going to make for her and to just leave! In other words get out of here! Maybe he want the seats for the zero clients that were standing around with nowhere to sit. There were 2 lonely clients inside and that was it. Bottom line - both the waiter and the manager are total jerks! Don not go here! Go to Chok next door! Their treats are the most delicious gluten free yummies i have ever had! Paella was very good, as were the tapas we ordered (cuttlefish and mussels). They seemed to be a bit understaffed and food took a while to come out, paella is understandable but they didn't bring out the bread for a while. However they were friendly and I loved the interior decor. read more

Came here for a dinner on a weekend night - they looked pretty full, but were able to seat the 3 of us outside within like 10 minutes. Service was quick in general. The place is a little on the pricier side, but I really enjoyed the food. We got a pitcher of Sangria for 21 euros. It wasn't too strong, but it tasted good. As for tapas, we got the calamari and gambes a l'allet (shrimp). The calamari was a little different from expected, since it was like the head (not cut up) so it was a little thick, but had good flavor. The shrimp was my favorite part and super flavorful, though it was doused in oil so maybe not the healthiest. We got the seafood paella, which was about 19 euros per person. This thing was absolutely beautiful. It was the perfect size for 2 people and there was a good amount of seafood in it. Nice and crispy on the bottom too, which was a delight. Although other reviews said to avoid the meat, we couldn't resist the squid tapas, the beef cheek, and the lamb. The potatoes on the side were well flavored. Beers aren't too expensive and a good alternative to water. We were seated immediately, and food came out pretty quickly as well, considering we ordered main dishes. Squid came on potatoes, the lamb came with carrots, and the beef cheek was slightly sweet and so tender. Lamb was tender as well, and a lot of meat for the price in my opinion. Bones were easy to dodge. Sitting out on the patio in perfect weather was a great way to experience the cuisine, and there are plenty of things to see nearby. Lovely afternoon lunch! read more

I came by this restaurant as all other restaurant and tapas bars were pretty full with patrons. This restaurant has a nice interior and the waiters are friendly. I ordered just the grilled Pyrenean sirloin steak medium cooked. When it arrived I already had a bad feeling, which became certainty when I tried to chew the first bite. It was like rubber and had a lot of tendons. I had to cut off a third of the meat. At least the French fries and Peppers were nice. I can't tell whether the review would have been different if I stuck to the tapas. At least my table neighbors seemed happy with their pieces of ham (jambon) and cheese. Al fresco is more like add fresco (extra 15%) for outside seating. We tried some of the * dishes outlined as "specialty". The paella mariscos was loaded with squid, mussels, and shrimp. I was pleased the dish was very savory and had short grain rice soaked in the broth. The bisteak was thin and bland, but the shoshito pepper on top was a great nod to the local faire. My favorite were the little squid frito, crispy tentacles with the lemon wedge to bring it to life. Location is great for people watching and the service seemed understaffed for a Monday afternoon. However, our server never rushed us and was very pleasant. She mixes the drinks table side and had an Irish elbow to her pours. I watched as she stirred up sone Gin & Lemonade. On our first night in Barcelona, we walked through the neighborhood and went to dinner at Casa Delfin which is over 100 years old. We had a reservation but it was still pretty early so there were plenty of available tables. We enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine to start. I think Barcelona is the only place I've said I'll have a glass of house wine and actually enjoyed it. We ordered pan con tomate, octopus, Iberico ham, and padron peppers. Cute little restaurant with a surprisingly good menu, location and service! Weren't sure if this would be a touristy spot but it wasn't actually too bad. We sat outside on a hot day in July and enjoyed a sample of tapas- some fried artichoke hearts and our new favorite "cocoa bread". Nice and friendly service, and decent pricing. Service is friendly if a little leisurely but that's ok because I'm sure most people don't come for a quick bite, you should take your time in this place, the ambience and feel is super laid back and the decor is really well thought out (classy with a rustic feel). I really enjoyed the friendliness of the waiters and the lack of tourists. Most of the people eating were locals which makes you think that the food must be good. And it is: I has the Ham croquettes which are creamy and well filled. Chorizo in red wine which was super rich (I couldn't finish it) but it was very well done. The olives are the best I've had (and I eat a lot of olives) the have big juicy ones behind the bar - they are sitting in chilli oil so beware =P I also had the fried peppers which were delicious (I nearly ordered a 2nd helping) and lastly, the fried artichoke which was just okay. read more

If you're looking for the classic lunch on the terrace, this is the place. Tasty comida, reasonably priced, with an attentive wait staff. (They were sweet and smiled politely through my very earnest, yet very broken Spanish.) The location is close to attractions like the Iglesia Santa Maria del Mar and the Picasso Museum but also really interesting shops great for meandering around. Only complaint was that many of the most popular dishes had run out that day. Only dined there once, so can't say how commonplace that is at Delfin. We still enjoyed boquerones, bacalao, a little jamon serrano, mushrooms, and more. read more

I pointed out the mistake and they corrected it, but I can't help but wonder if they were trying to get one past the tourists. My husband and I were very tired from traveling mishaps, it was late, and our hotel suggested Cafe Delfin. TERRIFIC with a very special thanks to Gabriel. We needed to be taken care of. We described what we wanted/needed, and Gabriel intuitively got it. Both the food and the wine, Gabriel's suggestions were perfection. After the most amazing cheesecake ever, we felt renewed. The restaurant has a comfortable atmosphere and a good menu to meet everyone's taste. And it has Gabriel, probably its best asset. Can't recommend Cafe Delfin highly enough. read more

We walked about the Born district about 1.5 times before finding this place tucked in a corner. None of the places we had seen on the way looked that great or that different, and we were starting to lose heart. So glad we found this. The anchovies on tomato bread, the sautéed chickpeas and the roasted vegetables with goat cheese and anchovies were all excellent, and to top it off they even had Eton Mess! (Apparently the owner is a Brit.) We passed on the champagne by the glass but it looked good. Service was excellent - friendly, cheerful and sympathetic to our Spanish. Highly recommended. read more

I had the special Salmon and my companion had the menu chicken. Both were good quality, flavorful, and right size portion. We had a couple starters, tapas that were good but not great. This restaurant was the worst experience we've had while in Barcelona. The service was horrible horrible horrible. It took the waiter about 15 minutes to even offer us drinks.... After that once we ordered he was reluctant to change anything from our dishes. Once we ordered it took 20 minutes to get the first dish. There was (5) of us and from the time we got the first plate it took (45) minutes to get the last dish. We requested the check since we had not received our food and the waiter totally ignored us as did the manager... It was just an awful experience!! If you're hungry don't come here! Tried to come here for breakfast as it was recommended by our host. We grabbed a seat outside and waited for our waitress. She came by after about 10 mins and cleared the table from the previous customers. She said hello and walked off. Never came back to our table. We sat for another 15 mins hoping she would take our order but completely ignored us as she went in and out servicing others. I noticed a few other reviews of bad service as well. Maybe they don't like tourists? We ended up just leaving since we were on a schedule so cannot even comment on the food. I'd skip this place since there are so many options in this area. I'm a seasoned restaurant diner. This place is filthy and staff is not allowed to execute its job properly. Their typical city hall approved menu is limited. We grabbed an open seat here after going to the beach all afternoon with our kids. The waiters apparently don't want to serve families with kids as they never gave us a menu after waiting for 15 minutes and asking politely in Spanish (twice) for a menu. They helped several other groups who arrived after us without bothering to ever address us. We eventually gave up and went nearby and had terrific service/meals. I don't remember much about this place except for the pan con tomate. I know I know, it's served everywhere and doesn't vary much and is so simple, but here it was extra delicious. This was a very unpleasant experience. They sat us in a tiny table in the middle of the restaurant that had waiters passing through on each end even though the restaurant was half empty. When we couldn't fit all the salt/ peppers/ oils on the table and I moved it to the other side, they rushed to tell us off and put it back. Obviously the arrangement was far more important than the convenience of the guest. We ordered one each of "catch of the day., the second most expensive dish on the menu. The dish was so small we had to eat another dinner an hour later and so bland that a lot of added salt and pepper couldn't save it. Fish was a bit undercooked and tasted of nothing. Even though I asked if it came with vegetables , the only other thing on the plate was half a finely diced tomato shared between two of us with a few capers and a sprinkle of vinegar. Food came out very fast and that's no surprise considering it wasn't cooked. Waiter came out and asked if we enjoyed it, I told him straight that we didn't, non of us finished it. texture was unpleasant and dish was bland. He looked shocked, didn't say anything walked off and got us our bill. No discount no nothing. We payed, obviously left no tip and left the place hungry. Looking at our two neighbours tables ( both ordered 3-4 tapas dishes) they also left a lot of the dishes after taking tasters. Plus for the decor but we hardly came for that. read more
