Food- 5/5. Great flavors and sauces. Vegan/vegetarian tacos are incredible (I'm not veg but love never flavor combos) Drinks- 5/5. Also great flavor combo margs Service- 11/5 Amazing patio to dine/drink on as well, but it was raining today so sat inside with cute decor and tile work. Everyone was so friendly and the food was incredible! Natalie was our server and she was so sweet and really on top of it! Can't wait to go back The tortillas were a tad bit too thick- but I've been living in San Diego for 5 years so I am a bit of a critic on tacos. If they'd flatten then just a smidge, the flavors of their fillings would come through even more! Obviously not going to lose any points there- but just a tidbit of what I'd change. read more

Casa Azul - Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita - Tacos Near Me - Buffalo, New York

Dear Casa Azul, I hope you are doing okay and weathering this storm. I miss your tortas, the ambiance and atmosphere and just being able to occasionally pop in, sit around and chit-chat. Your torta was the thing my dreams were often made of. I am not sure how you made it so flavorful and my memory is fading of what was in there. Were there pickled onions? If so, uh---yes! I love them! The seasoning and whatever you used on those tortas left me salivating and desiring. I've had some great memories in your space and I hope to have some more. Can't wait to see you when you're reopen. In the meantime, I hope all your staff is keeping safe and healthy. #ThankYouThursday read more

I live in Rochester and stumbled upon Casa Azul as we were exploring the neighborhoods of Buffalo. We absolutely loved the food and the ambience. Our server could not have been friendlier. Overall a wonderful experience! read more

It was an awesome experience! The place had a warm and inviting atmosphere with a traditional feel. The service was top-notch, especially our bartender, Ryan, who was super attentive. And the food was fantastic - fresh and delicious. I especially loved the fish tacos - the ribs were cooked to perfection. Highly recommend it! read more

I told my good friend Zina Lapi during my last visit with her, next time we will have lots more to Taco-bout. This time it would be at a new Location in one of the most Popular areas of buffalo, what was once Cantina Loco at the intersection of Elmwood & Allen is now Casa Azul's new base of Culinary Operations. I always thought of returning here but I never even thought of coming here until I saw on Facebook that they were having a Halloween Party. I told my cousin Mike and his girlfriend Emily about it and they were onboard with it right away. When they picked me up I guess that me and Mike had the Same Idea, as we both dressed up as Skeletons only difference was that I wore a Mask and Mike had his face painted while Emily was dressed up like a Troll. The Intersection of Elmwood & Allen was under construction, so we had to make our way down and park on Park Street. A Little bit of walk on such a brisk night wouldn't hurt to work up an Appetite. We walked in and I went right up to Zina Lapi (she and her Co-Worker were both halves of a Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich). She kindly greeted us as we got here just in time before it got crowded, waited 6 Minutes for our Table which was in the Corner next to the DJ. Shortly after we were seated people started coming in as they were crowding the Bar Area and even Outside. Makes me glad we arrived when we did, we looked over their Spooky Cocktail Menu and I got one of them. It was called What lies Beneath served in a Tall Tiki Glass filled with Rum, Blue Curacao, Sherry, Coconut & Lime. I wasn't thrilled with the Pineapple Rind nor the Plastic Spider sitting at the top of my Lime Wedge floating in the Drink. A few sips of this Tropical Beverage and I could feel the Buzz as much as I do from the Party. Food Wise, Mike and Emily each got a plate of Taquitos that were filled with Roasted Pork and Cabbage topped with a Charred Jalapeno Aioli and with a little pool of Bright Green Chile Sauce. I was starving as I haven't eaten in over 9 Hours so I took the liberty of getting 2 Entrees. The 1st was a Braised Pork Belly Tostada with Fingerling Potatoes and Black Bean Puree. The other was Cod that was brushed with Black Garlic in a Poblano Corn Chowder. When I went to eat the Tostada, I didn't know how to attack it, if I picked it up and ate it would've shattered all over my Lap. So I ate with my Knife and Fork, Pork was Crispy and Juicy, Tender Potatoes, Onions packed with a Punch from the Habanero marinade. The Fish was fall apart Tender swimming in a pond of Corn Chowder that was accented mildly from the Poblanos. The Pumpkin Seeds and Fingerling Potato Crisps that were floating provided some Texture Contrast to the Dish. I ordered another Drink, one of their Regular Cocktails called the Poblano Plane. It was a Charred Poblano infused Bourbon with Amero Nonino, Aperol & Lemon. Bourbon to me has a bit of a kick when it hits my Throat, this Poblano just emphasized it to another Level with a subtle hint of Smoke at the end. Emily got some Churros for Dessert, who doesn't like Fried Dough dusted with Cinnamon Sugar and drizzled with Dulce de Leche Caramel. Around 11:30 at night I was feeling it from the Party especially with DJ Crespo rocking those Tunes and spinning those Records. I decided to order another Drink, Ruby and the Beast. Consisting of Mezcal, Lemon Juice, Grapefruit, Cinnamon Syrup, Orgeat, Allspice Dram and Angostura Bitters. Bright Orange drink that had a Mint Shrub and Orange slice on Top. It was like a play on Beauty and the Beast as the Beauty was from the Sweetness from the Fruit and the Cinnamon and the Beast was the intensity of the Mezcal Tequila. At around quarter to Midnight I ordered some Tacos to Munch on. I got Shrimp with Chipotle Sauce, Chicken packed Dark Meat and topped with bits of Crispy Chicken Skin for Crunch and Brussel Sprouts tossed with Salsa Macha along with Roasted Peanuts and Sesame Seed for some Bite. You know between the Food, Drinks, Party and the Atmosphere I had a Rockin Good time. Mike & Emily enjoyed themselves too, after 2 1/2 Hours we decide to call it a Night, also gave a shoutout to DJ Crespo before I left. I think that Zina and the rest of the Casa Azul crew will thrive and be a Big Success in this area. Elmwood is a popular Street in Buffalo, they go by and think, this looks like just the Place for Tacos. Let me do some math for you, Casa Azul + Tacos = Happiness. !!! read more

Owner is kinda mean, I don't think the staff lets her out much. Otherwise the place is fantastic. Great food, exceptional margaritas that change based on season. I visited on a saturday night. It was a crowded, trendy, cute little taco spot with great service (staff was all amazing!) i think this restaurant is a great addition to the area. I'd never say this is an "authentic" mexican restaurant. So if that's what you're expecting, you'll be dissapointed. However They have a wide range of drinks, and if you like those specialty, "upscale" tacos, you'll really like Casa Azul. It'll be a great visit for someone just looking for a quick bite and a cool spot to hang out with friends. read more

Was craving a torta and my usual place was closed so decided to place an order for pick. I called ahead and my food was ready by the time I arrived. The young lady that helped me was very cheerful and pleasant. The food was well packaged. There was a lot of chips provided. The chips are on the thicker side but overall were good. The salsa was a bit bland. Not sure what the 2 other sauces were but they were okay. None of the salsas/dipping sauces were spicy which was a bit disappointing. The torta itself was just ok. The meat was pretty skimpy and just didn't fulfill the torta crave I had. I wouldn't be opposed to trying something else on the menu but definitely wouldn't get the torta again. read more

My friend took me here for the first time. They are also part of the restaurant week. There's two floors to this restaurant. The first floor is more bar and the second floor is the dine in part. Parking is street parking and is very easy to find on weekdays, not sure about the weekends. I had the option of ordering from the regular menu or the restaurant week menu. The restaurant week includes a 3 course meal but I was craving tacos so I went with that. I ordered the shrimp taco, carne asada, and pork belly. The shrimp is like fried shrimp topped with whatever is listed. Carne asada was really good! The beef was cooked perfectly. It has the nice top of pink in the middle of the beef. I never had the pork belly but the server recommended it. It was very good! All 3 tacos were very favorable but the carne asada has to be my favorite! Give this place a try and thumbs up! read more

(Last visited 9/22/2020.) Working in Buffalo for the week and it's #TacoTuesday! Woo! So I found a nice spot right downtown that had good reviews so here I am! Atmosphere/Appearance: Giving off real cantina vibes with it's open-air 2-story floorplan. The décor was done very well and modestly. The bar was downstairs, but sitting upstairs gives a much better view since the restaurant was perched right on the corner. Service: Jess took excellent care of us. She was very good at her job, just a bit underwhelming. She wasn't very exciting or anything, but... that's okay, she did her job very well. The only issue we had was with the website. I came here for #TacoTuesday, which ON THE WEBSITE IN HUGE letters, offered various tacos for $2.00 and 7 oz. Coronitas for $2.00. It's literally what brought me to this establishment. Then come to find out they're not doing it. I'm sure it's because of COVID-19, but c'mon, update the website. I was so irritated by this, but it was already 9:00pm and I just wanted to eat. So... yeah, that bothered me, but because I'm generous, y'all can have 4 stars when I really wish I could give 3.5. Moving on... Food: FABULOUS. I tried 2 of their Taco Flights where you get to choose a choice of 3 tacos for one price. My favorite was the Al Pastor Taco which was shaved pork, beet marinated onion, pineapple and cilantro on a grilled tortilla. The balance of sweet and salty with together so perfectly. The tacos are also a good size too! My next favorite was the Shrimp Taco which are fried, then topped with, habanero onion, chammoy, cilantro. Very, very nice blend of flavors. Next up was the Chicken Taco which was dark meat confit, herb salsa and chicken skin chicharron. It was... interesting to say the least. I'd get it again, but those other 2 I favored a bit more. Last, but not least was one of 2 vegetarian options, the Roasted Poblano & Potato Taco which consists of roasted potatoes and poblanos, crema, cotija then pepitas. It was okay. That's it, okay. The menu is relatively small and that's okay! I actually liked not having to flip through a Cheesecake Factory-sized menu to make a decision AANNDD, the fact that they offer taco flights was even better! Value: Each taco flight was $12.50 and comes with 3 tacos. No, I didn't eat 6 tacos, I split the 2nd flight with my coworker. Lol. In conclusion, this place was pretty good! I will certainly come back WHEN THEY BRING TACO TUESDAY BACK. I'll be sure to call ahead next time. read more

This place should definitely be on your radar if you love tacos and quality food! Casa Azul is newly renovated sit down Mexican style place that brings together swanky and good tacos. The lower level has a nice bar area where you order amazing mix drinks and fun buckets of coronitas while you wait for a table (main seating is upstairs). There will probably be a wait if you go at any popular hour like dinner or happy hour (I think Margs were $6 during happy hour). Definitely try one of their cocktails here if your into that cause they are fantastic, perfectly hand crafted, nice flavours with subtle sweetness. My only complaint would be the bar tenders could have been a little more welcoming and friendly, we certainly didn't feel the love from them (our waitress was awesome though). We ordered our apps at the bar and they came out fast and delicious. Chips & Salsa trio: their chips were crunchy, warm still, and nicely salted, fun trio of salsa but not my favourite combo of flavours in them Guacamole: delicious and chunky and fresh, def recommend Queso: of this was the last thing on earth I ever ate I would be happy, comes in a hot skillet with chips and you can taste the quality of the cheese they use, topped with crunchy pepitas and roasted cauliflower (we got the chicken Verizon) YOU MUST TRY THIS After getting seated we ordered some drinks and everyone got a few tacos, beautifully presented with some fun options. Once again the quality of the ingredients was fantastic, the pork belly taco was awesome, potato taco was delicious (mind you I think La divina Mexican does the potato one better) and the all came out like works of art. I would love to try the tongue here at some point. We finished our meal with fresh churros and they really were amazing! Well done to Casa Azul, quality and taste bring it here. Prices are very decent, mind you some may be turned off by smaller serving sizes but I think everything it a done so well here they are worth it. Almost only gave 4 stars because of bartender service but our waitress saved the day and service was quick and professional. Can't wait to try more menu items! Ps- house corn tacos were awesome! read more

My friends invited me out for a last minute dinner and drinks at Casa Azul on a Monday night (yay for no work on Tuesday) and I was excited to try this place out. We went up to the second floor and sat at a table for 4. The atmosphere is great especially now that the weather is better outside. The menu offers a great variety of appetizers, tacos and drinks. Of course I had to try the Hibiscus margarita and it was so delicious and unique it went down like water. Although it was quite strong I will say. I ordered a fish taco and a lengua taco. I enjoyed both throughly and the presentation. Both tacos were very nicely topped and flavored. I like the lengua offering because you can't find it at many places in Buffalo. Our table also shared the nachos which came with 3 different types of salsa! Also of importance is the fact these were the BEST tortillas I've ever had. They were warm, fresh and with a good amount of thickness and their own flavor. They really made the tacos insanely good! I will definitely be back to try alllll the other tacos and margaritas. read more

Best tacos, and churros that I've ever eaten and I live in Southern California... I had the house Margarita and it was delicious. Service was beyond amazing. A gem of a Mexican restaurant in downtown Buffalo! The boyfriend and I stopped by at around 5:30 on a Friday and were seated immediately, which was just the tip of the iceberg that was an amazing Mexican meal. Our server was attentive and kind too! We started with the trio of salsas and chips. Each had a unique flavor and the chips were unlike any other that I've had at a Mexican restaurant; they were thick and crunchy. I got a trio of tacos: shrimp, chicken, and roasted cauliflower. The chicken was amazing and the cauliflower taco was absolutely sublime. I don't know what the sauce was that the cauliflower florets were tossed in, but it was out of this world. I only took a bite of the shrimp taco because I was so stuffed, but it was fantastic too. I didn't get to try any of their cocktails, but I'd love to come back to sip on a margarita and try some more of their taco selection. If you're looking for a Mexican joint with a unique menu, look no further than Casa Azul! read more

Recently made a trip and got the chicken tacos, churros and a Paloma to drink. The Paloma was not very good- it just tasted like very watered down grapefruit juice. My friend got a house margarita and felt the same about his. Granted we were on the patio and it was very hot so that could have contributed but even the first sip was not great. I've been there other times and had good drinks so I guess it just depends on who's bartending. The tacos were delicious, good flavor and the hot sauces were good as well. I don't like that they only have 1 option for chicken but at least they are good! The churros were the star! Perfectly cooked and loaded with cinnamon sugar and glaze. They give you a large portion too so I even took some home. read more

This place is usually a decent spot to get quick Mexican while out in the Allentown area. Last night they just completely missed the mark. Ordered the nachos with Al pastor and the esquite corn to start. They both came out suspiciously fast like maybe 90 seconds after we placed the order, which in my head says nothing was cooked fresh.. we were right. Chips were ice cold and completely soggy from the start. Al pastor extremely dry and burnt with no flavor, also cold. We were touching everything by hand to gauge the temperature, all cold and old. The corn tasted like canned cord tossed in a microwave, no flavor no seasoning. Had the trio of tacos, yet again chicken ice cold. Birria tacos extremely dry, warm on one side ice cold on the other side. Shrimp taco all batter and cold. Meat tasted microwaved. Overall terrible food experience. Waitress was very friendly and customer service was good. Food absolutely terrible and I'm not one to leave reviews. read more

Just a heads up- if you call to make a reservation, you're actually contacting the one in nyc. This location doesn't take reservations. Came in for dinner on Wednesday around 9:20pm and the food was just not good. The service was ok, although they brought me the wrong drink the first time. We ordered the chips and salsa and it came with 3 different salsas, Neither of them were good. The chicken tacos were ok but 2/3 of my tacos had chicken bone fragments that I had to spit out! Lastly, we ordered churros and they were so burnt we just left it at the table. Overall, I would not recommend this place read more

one star is honestly generous. this was a few weeks ago and i was going to not make a review. their cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages have the same names. me and my father both ordered off the non-alcoholic menus. the server brought out drinks that were full to the brim with alcohol. mind you, i'm 17 years old and do not look over 21. the waitress didn't bother asking for id or confirmation that we were looking to get alcohol. my father has not had a sip of alcohol in over 7 years, until we went to this restaurant. extremely dangerous and irresponsible behavior. when we returned the drinks, the waitress was incredibly dismissive and did not understand why we were so upset. she came over to the table to apologize to my father (who had to go outside for fresh air), so she didn't really even apologize to him. completely dismissed me, as if she was not sorry for serving alcohol to a minor. the food wasn't very good either. if you're looking for authentic mexican food, run in the other direction. i debated reviewing this place, i was just going to keep my negative thoughts to myself. but honestly this was such a dangerous and disgusting experience for me that it felt downright immoral to not let others know. i'm adding a picture of the drinks we were served. the pink and green were ours, the third one is my cousins. minimal professional or remorse shown, i'm furious even weeks after. read more

If I had a credit card, I'd buy a theme park. If I had Cash: A zoo. I came to Cash Azoo to try and buy said zoo, only to find out it's actually "Casa Azul", a Mexican restaurant that is actually more fusion-American than Mexican. The vast majority of the clientele (probably 99%) are not Mexicans, and my Mexican girl (who doesn't have one) was pretty appalled by both the menu and the products. So was I. Definitely one of the least impressive restaurants I've been to in Buffalo. I've been here twice now - the second time with a real-life Mexican chica - and both times I was honestly dismayed by the standard of food. What's even more appalling is people describing this as real Mexican food. It's not. Yes sure, the owner or chefs may be from Mexico. So what. It's some kind of American Fusion food (aimed at trendy folks and a somewhat upscale crowd) which would be fine if it actually tasted good, but it's actually awful. Even if it was good, I'd be hard pressed to give it 5, since it's marketed as actual Mexican and all of these Yelp reviewers are talking about it being such. But the meats and tortillas and sauces all just don't taste good. Prices are higher than actual Mexican food (at La Divina or Mayas or Hali Boyz) and it does absolutely nothing for me. On the other hand the service is literally some of the nicest I've had anywhere in Buffalo. I find it very hard to give them less than a 4 because of how wonderful the service was. Their service was 5 out of 5 all the way, and they really, really know how to hire some lovely people. I feel bad, because I think my friend Alex - and all the nice servers - might be upset by this review and the 3 stars. But honestly the food is more like a one. They just get bonus points for effort and service and making Alex happy and being locally owned. I'm nothing if not honest, so I can't make any pretences just because the servers are wonderful or because all of my friends are foolishly convinced that this is authentic Mexican, or because they have bad taste... er, I mean different taste... in Americanized fusion food. read more

Great and great atmosphere. Hostess was so kind and we only had to wait 10 minutes to grab a table on a Friday night. The charred Cesar salad is to die for and the tacos are bomb. Went here for dinner with friends. Atmosphere: alot cuter than I was expecting. Could be a cute date spot, girls night out or casual bar hang. Waiter was attentive. Food: we had the guac and queso fundido, guacamole was great not too salty had some chunks of guacamole in it. The Tortilla chips were fried and dusted with a little salt. Queso fundido was one of my fave dishes. Sizzling queso with a drizzle of honey and some pepitos. I had pork belly and potato tostada. It was absolutely delicious. Tender pork belly, with seasoned potatoes, cilantro, scallion and bean sauce. It's a flavor party for your mouth. We had both the churros and chocolate mousse. The mousse was good. Not too sweet, great texture and perfectly balanced by the sourness of fresh berries. The churros though... *chef's kiss * literally melt in your mouth cinnamon sugar goodness. Best churros I've had in buffalo. Drinks: Margharitas!! Coconut black lava salt rim and vanilla pear with sugar rim. Both delicious, loved the ube coconut. Personally feel like it would have been better with a sugar rim. But the drink itself was slightly creamy and smooth. The vanilla pear was refreshing. Both great additions to our meal read more

The menu was a little out there with its offerings. They had many different tacos. We each got 3 or 4 and we were stuffed after the apps and the tacos. The chips and salsa were a great starter I liked the variety of salsas. My favorite tacos were the chicken and the shrimp. They were pilled high with tasty ingredients and all the flavors meshed well together. The margaritas were very strong and tasty. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helped up pick things to eat. The only thing I didn't like was that it was so noisy and that you were sitting very close to the other tables. We will be back for more delicious food and great drinks. read more

I've been going to Casa Azul once or twice a year since they opened and was pretty excited to go to the grand opening for their new location on Allen. If you don't know, the location on Allen formerly hosted the legendary Cantina Loco until the owner's wife ran it to the ground. So, big shoes to fill. I have to say I was pretty shocked to see how few changes Casa Azul made to their menu given such a big location upgrade. Their menu as it is is more niche Mexican than say Allen town Mexican. It's kinda boring to be honest. I hope they make some quick changes before the crowd dries up. People are coming in looking for Cantina Loco's nachos and Korea town tacos, you can't give them some overpriced flavorless tacos. read more

Came here for a bridal shower and the experience was wonderful! The bartenders were quick to serve everyone and even remembered my pineapple allergy when I came up later for another drink. The space is modern and inviting, perfect for a casual night out or a classier event. The food is incredible! The guacamole is seasoned perfectly and has a great balance of onion, avocado chunks, and tomatoes. For lunch I had potato tacos and chicken tacos. If you are someone who knows and enjoys traditional Mexican food, then I wouldn't go here and expect that. I love authentic Mexican and this isn't Mexican food. Everything lacked flavor; no salt, no lime juice, nothing. I started with a Mango margarita and it was watery. It tasted like they used an artificial flavoring of some sort and mixed that with tequila. I got the Chips and Salsa as an appetizer; the chips were hard and warm. Usually chips are thin and hot after being fried right before hitting your table. The salsa medley lacked flavor entirely. I requested salt and limes so I could salt it up myself and squeeze my own lime juice in. My taco shells were firm on the outside but slightly doughy on the inside. They also broke apart when I picked it up; even before biting into them. The churros were SUPER doughy inside but looked over fried on the outside. Not sure how that could be pulled off simultaneously. This was my first time here and the space was nice. Great presentation, beautiful plating & decent service but this will definitely be my last time here. read more

Had brunch here on a Saturday afternoon in June. Both upstairs and downstairs have a bar. We chose to sit upstairs because the outside wall facing Genesee St. was open letting in a nice breeze. We started with the Chips and Salsa with a trio of salsas along with a bowl of guacamole to go along with a house Margarita. The guacamole was very fresh and the chips were excellent. We posted some salsa into the guacamole and dipped our chips into the bowl. This was an awesome way to start our meal while waiting for or entrees. The brunch menu had lots of interesting choices and we eventually chose the Tostada and Casa Hash as our entrees. These two dishes change weekly and this week the Tostado was made with crab meat and the Casa Hash contained the typical potatoes and eggs plus charred corn, pablano pepper, and bacon. We enjoyed both dishes especially the Casa Hash. Enjoyed the service, food, and seating on the 2nd floor. There are many items on the menu that we would like to come back and try. read more

I'm basing my review off of the environment and appetizer. My friend and I went around 9:45pm on a Friday night and while it wasn't super packed (it's very small inside), it was LOUD. Not to mention, where we were seated, I had to stare at a line of about 7 people trying to go to the bathroom half the time... Onto the appetizer. Yuck. Wow. We split the Queso Fundido and it was a skillet full of thick disgusting melted cheese and a few pieces of brown, shredded rotisserie chicken on top. I can still feel it sitting in my stomach. They skimped out on the tortilla chips with it (they were Atleast good). We also didn't see corona on the ($7-9) beer menu..maybe we missed it. Overall, disappointed. Would not come back. read more
