I travel all the way to Roseville and livermore for my supplies and those pet stores are amazing. First just want to say got screwed over by petsmart buying feeder food for our adult beardie. Decided to call Carters to check if they had superworms was greeted on the phone by a friendly voice and he replied yes we do 10 for $1 and he informed me they had good stock of healthy worms. I purchased $5 worth and got more than what I expected. They were bigger than expected to see. Chatted with the guy helping us and told him the story of petsmart issues. I will now be buying all the feeder food for our beardie here, you always get what you ask for and all healthy and big and he informed me they get deliveries twice a week. It's sad how much this location doesn't care or value their customers. I've been coming here since they opened and have supported this business but as of recently they've been absolutely terrible to deal with. They will leave you waiting for up to 20 minutes just to grab you some feeders. Whoever the taller lanky guy is in the back really needs to have a conversation with management. He literally threw an already dead worm into my cup the other day and also has groaned and made comments under his breathe on multiple occasions when I ask him politely for something that obviously I'm not allowed to get myself. I bought a whole cup of hornworms the other day and basically all of them died and I got no support on how the store could fix my issue as a paying customer. UPDATE: Just wanted to update w/ a funny story that shows just how great the service is at Carter's. I called the store this morning and Jeff answered the phone. He checked inventory for me and confirmed that they had both the chicken and beef Northwest Naturals chubs in. When my husband went later in the day to pick up the food, he inadvertently picked up two chubs of beef and Jeff reminded him that he really wanted one chicken and one beef. So glad that there are stores like this one that still take the time to listen and remember their customers and their pets needs!!!! My spoiled little Havanese is 15 years old and only eats raw due to a VERY sensitive digestive tract. I was so happy when I found out that they opened one in Manteca! I use to always go to the one in Stockton. I bought a bunny a couple of months back (not from carters) and I had called a couple of nearby pet stores to see if they could trim her nails. Well.... everyone said no, that they did not do bunnies. This place does! :) The girl that helped me (I forgot her name... she was blonde) was beyooooond helpful. Great place with great customer service!. I went in there after looking EVERYWHERE for a specific substrate for my Walstad planted tank. This place is the ONLY place I could find what I was looking for but it was in their tanks.....the owner was sooooo cool. He offered to scoop out the rocks in brand new tanks that didn't have any fish yet (Mind you they just opened so not fully stocked yet) and he sold several 5 lbs. bags that he himself scooped out for me and on top of that gave me a GREAT price on the rocks! I'll definitely return to buy future fish and plants for my 55 gallon aquarium!! Thank you guys for being friendly and having great customer service....it really means a lot and makes customers want to come back! I can't comment on pricing for other products because I really went in looking for substrate. But I'll be back to check everything else. first I would like to say that this store has the worst customer service ever, I went in to get some feeder fish for my turtle 50 to be exact. The guy who helped me was new didn't know what he was doing I had to tell him . Then I come home and 3 hr later they are all floating dead. I take them back and im told by the cashier that they will replace them. After getting 50 more fish I take to the register where there is now another girl and I let her know that these are my replacement feeders. She tells me that they do not guarantee feeder fish so I spend another 15 dollars . Now i'm 30 dollars in the hole. come home put them in the tank and later that day all dead again. So I take the drive like I should have done to Petco and I get 50 more feeders and this morning all swimming except for the ones my turtle got a hold off. Never ever will I go back to that place and petco was so much cheaper then the Pet mart. read more

A couple of days ago, I decided to try this store for the first time rather than Petco or Petsmart to stock my 65 gallon tank. I went to their fish section which barely had any selection, although there were some fish there that you could not find at a big box store like Petsmart or Petco, however, they barely had any selection when I went, I'm not sure if it's because they haven't received new shipment or if it's always like that. But while looking around for fish, at least half of the labels were wrong and had the wrong fish inside it. I went here to buy tetras and bottom dwellers since I had gouramis for my middle section of the tank. However, when I looked for tetras, they barely had any selection, not even neon tetras. I did however find some albino cory catfish, but two days later, I find them both dead at the bottom of the tank. The Cory's were 6.99 each which was twice as expensive as Petco, the only reason I decided to purchase two was because I would've thought they would be better quality, which they did look at first, but as soon as I got home, which is 10 mins away, they barely moved inside the bag, which barely had any room for oxygen. I also purchased 16 feeder goldfish for my pond outside, 5 were DOA! I would recommend this store for dogs and other animals since they had a good selection of products, however for fish, if you're not looking to get flowerhorns or bass, stay away from this store. Lastly, they were extremely overpriced for what quality of fish they were. I'm not sure, if I can get a refund of some sort, I don't know if I want to get anymore fish from my experience, but if they can reply to this for feedback if I am wrong or I was just not there at the right time, please let me know, and I will be willing to give this store a 2nd chance. read more

Came to Carter's for the first time today to purchase cat litter for my foster kittens. Jeff greeted me as soon as I walked in the door and showed me where litter was. Both he and another staff member offered to help me out to my car (I was pushing my baby in her stroller) and Jeff went out of his way to bring me some coupons and let me know where to find coupons online. Great customer service, one of young ladies here is beyond incredible and helped me find a perfect switch from soft to hard food for my picky dog. I ask found a better alternative to his denta-sticks they had a better ingredient product called denta-brites that my dog loves!!! This place is great! I'm so glad Manteca has a pet store we can go to besides Petsmart! Not only does this store have everything they have but their prices are WAY better. They also price match so if you do find it cheaper they'll match it. They have very friendly staff that are always ready and willing to help you. Excellent Pet Shop. I go here whenever I need to pick up mealworms for my bearded dragon. Large selection of animal products and luckily they are one of the few pet stores that don't charge an arm and a leg. My go to whenever I need pet supplies. Staff is friendly and provide excellent custoner service. If ever they are out of stock, they usually refer you to another pet shop close by (Old Mcgowan's.) Great place to find pet food that's actually GOOD for your pets at not so "BIG BOX PET STORE" prices. Is it more than the cheap food like Purina or Atta Boy? Sure, but the food is better quality which means you aren't paying for fillers and you don't have to give as much food to your pet to satisfy their appetite. Also, if your pet doesn't like the food, you can bring it back. I've yet to have to do so. The staff are VERY NICE and helpful and knowledgeable. Store is kept clean and well organized. They have low cost vaccination clinics on Sundays, and they also have pet adoptions on Sunday's as well. So if you know of anyone looking to give a fur baby a loving home, or they have a pet in need of new or updated vaccinations, send them on down. I truly encourage anyone with pets to check this store out. I think they clown any "Big Box" pet store on both prices, service and product. read more

Ms Nikki was super dope. My sons turtle just passed away and had a really hard time picking out a new pet miss Nikki explained to us how all the different tanks and all the different fishes work which one needs a heater which ones OK in room temperature water. All I can say is my son was super juiced and excited about his new petssss and couldn't wait to get home to put together his new fish tank. In the middle of the sale my son walked up to Miss Nikki gave her a really big hug and told her thank you for helping us. Horrible service, towards our animal we got. We got a non hand fed cockatiel from them, one man used a towel and chased her for three minutes around the cage. Then grabbed her and then released her, then went back to chasing her. She screamed bloody murder with fear, I offered to help several times to him but he said no. We brought her to our home and she was so scared she didn't eat or drink over night, she is now skittish to anyone trying to hold her. I basically worked with her for five days and each day she got used to me, we are still working with her. She plucked her feathers because of this. read more

I went to Carter's Pet Mart today to look for a birthday treat for my dog. I was standing next to the counter where they keep the treats and the girl working there wanted to take my small day pack and keep it at the register. I wear a small bag to prevent neck problems because it distributes the weight evenly over my shoulders. My bag is smaller than most purses. I told her no she couldn't keep my bag at the counter and I left. I won't be returning. read more

I came in because my dog had allergies I wasn't sure what would be best suited to help with her dietary needs upon finding this out. I was wandering around aimlessly looking at labels not sure and the store clerk came and gave me a thorough understanding of the different types of allergies a dog particularly me breed (French bulldog) has and what can help. I left so grateful with a bunch of treats and food my dog loves. Their staff is so knowledgeable here they know what they're talking about and they care. I have been buying dog food at Petsmart for the last five years, and Carter's prices are considerably lower for the same brands. I saved quite a bit of $. I visited Carter's Pet Mart Manteca for the first time yesterday. My family, and i were highly impressed! The store is very clean, the entire staff is very friendly, and helpful. The shelves are fully stocked, neatly with many items, huge selection, and at VERY reasonable prices! All high quality too. They also have the VIP low cost pet care clinic there every Sunday! (Which is an AMAZING program for all) They also have, the Delta Humane Society there every Saturday (i also saw them Sunday when i visited), to promote pet adoptions! Awesome!! Delta Humane Society is also an awesome business! Carter's was great! No room for improvement at all, in my opinion. They have everything from pet foods, beds, toys, treats, leashes, collars, etc..etc all high, and good quality, and all very reasonably priced!! They also have tons of reptiles, and bunnies, and I'm sure more but, i didn't spend too much time in that area of the store. All the animals/reptiles in their store appear to be extremely healthy, well cared for, and happy! Including their awesome Parrot that stands behind the counter, and loves talking to customers :) Was awesome to meet him/her too! I also, love the fact that Carter's is locally owned, and operated! Ryan Carter...you have one FANTASTIC business, Sir!! You run it perfectly! Your staff is also, all amazing, and helpful!
