Sympathy card from the staff after my folks said goodbye to their husky last week

These folks are so thoughtful, I'm so touched hearing my parents describe the care and attention they got throughout the process of losing their dog

I had to bring in my 18 year old fur baby after finding her in extreme pain in the morning. This vet center took us in right away in our emergency, met us outside with a gurney to help bring her inside. We had to say our goodbyes to my precious Honey B, but I was very comforted there. The staff were amazing and feeling. Very empathetic. They gave us as much time as we needed with our fur baby. I hadn't been here before, but I'm glad I went here. Compared to other vets I've been to, this is the best. Also affordable.. It took more stress off me knowing I could afford to give my baby the best farewell. I felt like there was no better place to be. They also gave me a lot of options for urns and made a paw print mold for free for a keepsake. I'm very sensitive and sentimental. I do recommend taking your pet here whether it's for a check up or a loving farewell.

Pets n Pals works with Lathrop Veterinary where dogs and cats are fixed before being placed in new homes. Dr. Julie Herbert neutered and examined my adopted kitten before he was released to the shelter for me to pick up. Two days after I brought the kitten home, an abscess in his abdomen erupted leaving him with an open wound the size of a nickel. The wound was oozing puss and the kitten was in obvious discomfort. How did Dr. Herbert and her team oversee the developing abscess??? This was evident negligence. I called both Pets n Pals and Lathrop Veterinary and they both refused to take responsibility. I took him to another veterinarian in San Jose who confirmed the abscess had been developing for several weeks and that the kitten needed immediate surgery and antibiotics. How is it that a professional veterinarian and her team would examined and neuter my kitten while ignoring an obvious abscess in the kittens abdomen? I'm having to come out-of-pocket with the $300 vet bill. Based on my experience, I encourage readers to look elsewhere for caring and responsible vet care.

I had a great experience at this vet. Compassionate vet and staff. I will return for any future vet needs and boarding my cat.

The staff is so helpful and concerned about your every need for your loved ones.(PETS) lol might be a little pricey, but after you go to all the other vets that still cannot figure out what is wrong with your pet you will end up spending more. Now my new vet has diagnosed my cat and has given him a regimen for allergies. He's a much happier cat now.

The woman who answered the phone didn't have amazing customer service but I was able to make a appointment and I trust my regular vet. The receptionist offered me 10:15 for the following day, which I wrote down and then at the end of the call confirmed 10:15. Later in the afternoon I received a text that I had an appointment at 10 am on the following day. 15 minutes may not seem like a big deal, but for someone like me who respects people's time, especially my own, it was frustrating. I left extra early because I did have some concerns and we arrived around 9:45 a.m. The parking lot was empty so we walked out dog around to let her potty before going in. The lobby is good sized with a decent amount of seating and there is a restroom for use. Check in and new patient registration was simple and we were seen within a reasonable time. I got the same feeling from the vet as I did from the receptionist, which wasn't great. There was no introduction or explanation. I only know what his name is now because it is listed on the receipt they emailed me. He checked her ears and mouth and immediately said she needed a dental cleaning. I explained she has them annually at our regular dentist and he stated "sometimes they need them more often". They have fliers for their dental cleanings on the wall and it just sort of felt like an immediate sales pitch, which I didn't like. Then, he grabbed her and turned her over without advising he was going to that, which made both my dog and I a bit uncomfortable and I ended up holding her so she would be calm. He offered to run tests but I explained again the two things we needed and he said he would give me a quote anyway and left the room. When the Veterinarian's Assistant came in, I had her remove the testing from the estimate and ok'd the things we did need. I am going to share the cost with you because I think it's helpful. We were charged: $59 for the exam, $35 for Bordetella, $98 for Cytopoint, and $12 for a medical waste fee. Our bill came to $204, however my credit card was charged $206.04. I was advised when I went to pay that there would be a 1% charge to use my credit card. I did not see a sign but the staff did tell me when I gave them my card just before I paid. I was fine with that and understand this is a common practice but again, with my time and money I am a meticulous person. I am always early and I save all receipts and log every transaction I make. I noticed later my receipt said $204 but my card was charged $$206.04. I contacted their office and asked for an updated receipt reflecting the charge and they replied "The credit card terminal charges 1% of the transaction amount." California law requires that the receipt accurately reflect the amount charged. If the surcharge isn't itemized, then the receipt is misleading and it looks like you were overcharged compared to the paperwork you were given. By law, businesses must give customers a truthful record of the transaction. Also, for comparison, our vet charges $44 for an office visit, $77 for Cytopoint and $1 for the Environmental Disposal Fee so their prices were definitely higher overall than what I typically pay. Ultimately my dog got what I brought her for but I do not know if I would choose to come to this office again.

Once I finally was able to commit to a date, the correspondence I received from TPA was clear and helpful. I was told when to begin restricting food/water, what time to arrive, and the details of the check-in process. As directed, I arrived by 8am and notified office staff. I was quickly greeted by the vet tech, Jill, who was absolutely the best. Jill was warm, patient, and knowledgeable. She let me see where the procedure would be preformed and where Zero would be held, and explained when/why she would call (if blood work was concerning, if it wasn't safe to sedate, if they had suggested extractions). Despite being nervous, Jill definitely helped me feel better about leaving my boy in her care. Since his bloodwork was fine, the next time I heard from Jill was when she called to share suggested extractions. She briefly reviewed the dentition of a dog, explained where there were areas of concern in Zero's mouth, and was able to give me monetary figures when asked. She took time to consider my follow-up questions and I felt the interaction was professional while being empathetic and frank. At no time did I feel that she was trying to upsell me or otherwise get more money out of me. When I picked Zero up, Jill came out holding him. She sat with me and reviewed his bloodwork line by line, his X-rays, and showed me before and after pictures of his teeth. She also provided me with clearly labeled medications. We talked about food and general aftercare, including what I might observe, and I felt comfortable about heading home. We are now at the tail end of recovery and Zero has done fantastic, and I truly attribute a lot of that to Jill & her efforts. Thank you!

We arrived around 8:30 AM for our dog's drop-off, and even though there were a lot of people already waiting, the process was surprisingly smooth. They clearly have an efficient system in place. After check-in, we were brought inside to speak with the vet, who walked us through everything and answered our questions. Thankfully, our pup was healthy and cleared for the procedure with no concerns. We got a call around 11 AM letting us know everything went well, with a pickup time at 1 PM, which gave our dog time to rest and recover from anesthesia. The procedure went well and he's recovering nicely. Overall, the experience was a 5/5 - friendly staff, efficient service, and incredibly affordable pricing. In addition to spay/neuter services, they also offer vaccinations and microchipping. For our 1-year-old, ~25 lb cockapoo, the total for neutering and microchipping was about $250, which is honestly unbeatable. If you're looking for high-quality, affordable care for your pet, I highly recommend checking this place out and booking an appt online or by phone.

I have been bringing my personal dogs, as well as the many rescue dogs I have fostered over the years, to Northgate for over 25 years. First, I want to address the negativity I see in reviews. Take a minute to think about what the staff here deals with! Incredibly difficult, high-stress situations daily (which I have contributed to on occassion - sorry) from delivering a devastating diagnosis to assisting a family saying a final goodbye to a beloved pet. It's not always puppies and kittens! They are focused on providing the best possible care, not winning a popularity contest. It takes immense grace and emotional stamina to do what they do, and I ask everyone to consider that before posting an unkind comment. You never know what they are going thru on any given day! Give them some grace and think about it before posting! The reason I have remained a loyal client for over two decades is simple: the Northgate veterinarians truly listen to their clients. I experienced a life-and-death situation with one of my dogs several years ago after visiting a different clinic. I repeatedly asked the vet for an ultrasound due to my Malinois's enlarged stomach, (it just looked odd) but I was told an X-ray would suffice. (I did not know at the time that an xray will not show a tumor - I listened to the vet) I was told nothing was there and that he was just over weight. I should have listened to my gut. Two months later, he became lethargic; I finally got the ultrasound I had asked for which revealed a tumor on his spleen had burst (Hemangiosarcoma), and I had to say goodbye and was devestated - he was only 6.. Had the ultrasound been performed earlier, perhaps it may have been caught in time and he would still be here with me. At Northgate, when I raise a serious concern or request a specific procedure, the doctors always take the time to talk through it with me and calm my craziness. They are never dismissive and always address my concerns with genuine care. I am not the easiest to deal with when it comes to my dogs. I am incredibly grateful for the dedication of Dr. Enz and Dr. Fitzpatrick, and I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Johnston as well. Every single staff member at Northgate is amazing, and I am grateful for the exceptional care they provide to my pets.

After you help your customer in line then it's my turn please. Oh also, you had better have a LOT of money because this place will not start with the basic things. They immediately head right to the easiest way to make as much money as possible. Cat got a wheeze and lost a couple pounds? Let's run bloodwork for $650. That all came back fine? Oh ok, then let's do an Xray for $650. All clear there? Doc basically refuses anything else but an exam of the GI for $750. We pass on the GI test and the breathing get's worse. Call back and now they want to start the process over again with chest Xrays for another $650. How about starting out small and do some steroids or an antibiotic first? I guess that's not going to make them enough money. Imagine going into a doctor and saying you have a fever and a cough and they immediately send you in for Xrays and bloodwork and CT scans and an MRI just for the hell of it. Hey Jules ... Not everyone has a money tree in the back yard.
