I brought my dog here for the first and last time a while ago. The experience never sat right with me. She had asked about my dog's prior grooming experiences which is totally fair, and I let her know that we got my dog from a previous owner and we weren't sure about how she was with groomers. When I picked her up, Ruthy let me know that my dog would keep turning around and didn't like her paws being touched and so she needed to hit her to correct the behavior. I was shocked to learn this and floored that she was so comfortable admitting this to me. She then proceeded to try to tell me things I should be doing to better train my dog. We have been using this groomer for about a year without any issues. She is usual very good. However, this week when I went to pick her up she was very short with me grabbed her cash (because she won't except anything else) gave me my dog and closed the door. As we drove of I felt something wet on my arm, when I looked down I noticed blood on my arm and my dog's paw. She split her paw pad somehow and didn't even tell me. Tried to call her without success. I really think this lady/owner used to hit my dog on the head. He had a fear of anyone even putting their hand out to greet him or even try to reach to pet his head. She was always trying to tell Me how to train my dog (he was three or four months old at the time) and that i had too much anxiety with him and he could sense it. Like it was my fault. Maybe its because he didnt like her. Shes seems off. And she never lets anyone inside the building. Which to me is so weird ive never been to a groomers where they dont allow you in. Everytime i dropped him off she was giving me pointers on how to walk him and be with him. And always recommending her friends dog training services. I respectfully told her that he was already in obedience school. She's kind of moody too. I took my dog here a handful of times and decided no more. My dog always came out of there anxious. He goes now to another place where they have nothing but good things to say about him and have broken his fears. We had to work really hard for him to trust in reaching to pet him on the head. And she didnt do a thorough job with him. He is a large breed with thick fur. Sometimes his ears werent clean and i could just see that she didnt clean him well or trim his nails. read more

Excellent!! I took my 7 month old pup for her first grooming and she came out beautiful and smelled really good. Ruthie was able to squeeze my pup in the same day and completed her in a hour, fastest grooming service ever (possibly because she so small). It has been a year since my dog last got groomed. We've tried to get him groomed where I used to get him groomed, but they didn't want to accept my dog anymore because he got aggressive. I recently just got him groomed here at Pampered Paws and the lady that groomed my dog seemed very understanding and knowledgeable! I can tell that she cares about each dogs she grooms and that she loves what she does! I feel comfortable getting my dog groomed here than any other place. She did such good work at a reasonable price. I have a maltipoo and he tends to get matted. I used to pay over $70+ just to get him groomed but with Pampered Paws, I was able to stay within my budget! Today was my first experience at the salon. I called to make an appt with Ruthie yesterday and thankfully she was able to take Bella in for the works before the Fourth of July weekend. The salon was easy to find, with help from the directions that Ruthie provided on the phone, and parking was available on the street right in front of the door. Ruthie is quite kind and very knowledgable with her craft. I appreciate her wisdom in caring for pets because of her experience and her AKC certification. That's official. We came from the Bay Area and I have seen acceptable grooming for Bella from other groomers out there, but nothing compared to how beautiful Ruthie made her look today. She looks very happy as well. Went in to get my dogs nails clipped for the first time and I didn't know I was suppose to wait outside, went in she wasn't around until I texted 10 minutes later that I was here. She came out and said you scared me no one is suppose to be inside, I apologized and she took my dog and cut her nails she did hurt her because she cried! She has never done that before. She said rudely now I have to sanitize everything because you came in, i stepped in to the building maybe 2 feet and AGAIN I said sorry I didn't see anything outside and your door wasn't locked. I'd been thinking of looking for a groomer for my two large doogs for a while now and Ruthie at Pampered Paws was recommended to me by several people. I walked in one day to check it out, talked to her and made an appointment. My pups (greyhounds) don't need many baths and grooming is really just a bath, nails, eyes and ears for them (no hair/fur clipping). I'd been doing it myself but I was ready to hand it off. I dropped them off for their appointment. They seemed comfortable there. We chatted while Ruthie took the skittish one and got him in the tub and began the wash. He's usually skittish around strangers and hoses but was ok with all of it so I left. I came back at the pick up time. So clean. Recently I took my toy poodle to be groomed at Papered Paws Manteca. I had been going there for over a year, but have had several issues with the owner. 1. not showing up for my scheduled appointments(twice) 2. When I asked for an expedited grooming because of my dog's anxiety, she informed me that it was my attitude that needed to be corrected as if I was the cause. I am a calm person by nature, therefore felt insulted by her accusation. 3. The day beforehand mothers day i brought my dog in and she nicked two moles on his belly(the cuts were minor so I didn't make a fuss). When I told her on my last and final visit to be careful of his moles on his underbelly(which she nicked on the previous visit) she became defensive and rude then asking me to show her where she cut him. As I felt for his moles under his thick coat she said, that's his wiener and laughed. Implying i don't know what a mole looks like and making a crass comment was rude. I let Ruthy know that I was offended and she apologized. At the time I had to be at work and had no one to pick him up so I left him there under the impression that we had resolved the issue. The very next day my dog was crying scratching his ear and bitting both hind legs to the point that his ear was bleeding and he had pulled out hair and broke skin on both legs. My dog has never done that before. I had to take him to the vet and $176 later he is beginning to heal. I don't know if he had a bad reaction to something she used on him but I will never recommend Ruthy and Pampered Paws to anyone but give a warning. read more

I've never had any issues with Ruthie. Yes it does take time but everyone has to take into consideration that she has other dogs she needs to take care of as well. Nowadays people just want everything done immediately and their way. Plus it's worth it at the end because your dog/puppy looks CUTE and they smell amazing! She takes care of your pets like if they're her own. Prices are so reasonable I don't see why anyone would complain about this business. I recently moved out of Manteca and honestly I still go out of town to get my dogs taken care of because her service has never been disappointing. I went on Monday and took my poodle she is about 9years old and almost completely blind. Fifi came out great I loved her cut and she seemed very happy and clam. I love that she took her time with Fifi. I can't always tell she didn't like her cost because she cries when I bring her home but she was happy this time on the ride home and was acting normal. read more

I've been going to pampered paws for about three years now since I moved to Manteca and unfortunately today will be my last time. The time needed to be groomed gets longer and longer each time. I dropped them off at 9am and was told they would be ready around 12 or 1. Mind you I've mentioned it a few times that I'm not comfortable with my dogs being there all day because they are old. My yorkie is fifteen and she just can't sit in a crate all day for numerous age related reasons. I texted the owner at 2:30 since I hadn't heard anything and she replied she didn't know when they would be ready, she was moving slow today. Then got another text saying send me that pic, then oops that wasn't for you. So of course I am to assume she moving slow because she is texting all day?! Finally got a text 45 min later at 3:15 saying they were ready. Seems like a hobby rather than a business. Sorry Ruthie you lost a customer. read more
