Carson Kitchen on 6th Street in downtown Las Vegas was fantastic. This is my second trip to this restaurant. My first visit was in 2017, and I was just as delighted then. I'll get to the food in a minute, but first I'd like to thank Alec, our server, and the manager, Beatriz, for being so friendly, accommodating, and helpful. We sat next to Beatriz at the counter facing the kitchen, and she guided us through the menu, made great recommendations, and even explained some of the particulars of running a shift. What truly impressed me about Beatriz was how she handled a foodie tour that arrived minutes after we sat down in a huge bus. When my wife and I saw 100 customers walk through the door, we were terrified that our service would suffer and our food would be delayed. However, that was far from the truth. Beatriz and the staff handled everything and everyone without any issues. As for the food, we enjoyed everything we ordered. We started with cocktails--an Old Fashioned for me and a golden ale for my wife. Both were made perfectly. We moved on to the devil's eggs, made with crispy pancetta, and caviar--fancy! Then we had the bacon jam with Havarti cheese and toasted baguette, which is one of their signature dishes, and the tempura green beans. Finally, we had the Coco-Espresson New York Strip, which was perfectly cooked, and I highly recommended it. Overall, our experience was phenomenal. Visited during a different season and the seasonal offering are absolutely still amazing in Winter. I started with the Shut Up, Cory, which was the elevated version of a Moscow Mule with Spiced Cranberry Syrup. For the app, I had the crispy chicken skins which had a great snap and crispiness with a nice seasoning paired with a smoked honey. The entree was the pork meatloaf with delicious crispy spiced tater tots. The meatloaf was melt in your mouth tasty between perfectly toasted bread. The service was super friendly and frequent. We are out of town-ers so we are not from LV. This is what we ordered: Tempura green beans Gyro Tacos Steelhead Trout Glazed Donut Bread Pudding Bacon Bourbon Ice Cream The restaurant does suggest a family style kind of dinner, and we didn't want to order too much because we can't take it "home". The green beans were great. Like some other reviewers has mentioned the cream cheese is an interesting choice. I, too, would have preferred a dip as you need a utensil to get the cheese on the green beans, but it does work. Gyro tacos are also wonderful. A slight kick but nothing crazy. Steelhead Trout was kind of like a salmon to me, but damn, that yellow curry is kind of the star. So I quickly took the tempura green beans and just started dipping into that curry instead. This is where we kind of went wrong. We were in a bit of a time crunch which the server did not know, but the dessert probably took a good 20 minutes, so we had to just scarf down the ice cream and took the bread pudding to go. The ice cream was tasty. A great way to end the meal. I don't want to rate the bread pudding because really, by the time I ate it, we were in the hotel room 3 hours later because we had to go watch a show. So, it was just OK, but not the restaurant's fault. I think next time, we would just get a side of the ice cream and forgo the bread pudding. Carson Kitchen, one of my most anticipated meals in Vegas this go around. The food is phenomenal and the flavors really shine! The cooks/chefs are no doubt extremely talented. Bacon Jam. Yes, please! The toasted baguettes were soft with a subtle crunch and had just the right amount of salt. That bacon jam was to die for, but a bit hot for my palette. However, I powered through it because it was that good. Chicken Thighs. Hot damn, this dish was everything. Not an ounce of dry meat and that Alabama white bbq was wildly good. I loved the kick and distinct flavors! The service, however, is awfully slow even at 4:30. Our waitress let us know that everything is served family style, meaning the food comes out whenever it's ready. It took forever, though, so we had to scarf our food down and dash as we had a timed show to get to. Wow , how have I not written my review on Carson's Kitchen ! My husband and I had our cocktail reception here after our chapel wedding. We had an about 50 people and did the beer and wine package. We had the upper patio / rooftop , it was very spacious and had a cool wall where we took pictures. 1000% would recommend this establishment. We were walking distance from our chapel. All of our food was excellent. I believe we had the bruschetta, sliders, chicken sliders, fried chicken skin, and shrimp (don't quote me on that it was a whirlwind of a day). I do remember every bite being delicious and all my guests still talk about it. The best part hands down was the staff. They really made my day. They always made sure to spot me out and offer me food. The bartenders were fast and polite. Everyone was exceptional. 10/10 The sweet servers even wrote us a sweet congrats note! Local (like walkable local), and this is generally one of my favorite places, I visit often...it had been a while (because a lot of new places are opening in the arts district - not too far away). I was excited to finally come back and have the staple dishes and try something new (?), but that never happened. Planned out the day (Relaxing Sunday) to arrive late afternoon/early dinner to avoid any rush. Asked if the roof was available and told no, okay...(maybe I asked the wrong question)...the host, possibly the manager sat us at the corner of the food bar. Yeah, I get that we walked in without a reso, but it would have been nice to have been told that the only available seating was the food bar (the place was no where near full)...walking over to the seats...and there it was, the door to the outside, where people were seated and some with menus (signaling that they had just been sat). Some other people arrived after us and walked outside... The sentiment from the host/mgr was, I can't be bothered. Could I be wrong, maybe, but at this point, who wants to walk into a decently pricey place and made to feel like their experience doesn't matter. As a Vegas native, I've heard plenty of good things about the food scene downtown -- however, because of my location and the reputation I've heard of downtown I never had a good reason to check the place out for myself. Thus, when I was dragged downtown for a jury duty summons and then was let go early, I decided to do some exploring while I was here! Which led me to Carson Kitchen. It may look nondescript -- and indeed, it's easy to miss as you're driving or walking down Carson Avenue! But don't be fooled: Carson Kitchen has been regularly listed as one of Las Vegas' best restaurants since it first opened in 2014, and has multiple awards to its name! Thus, it was the perfect place for me to try out and see what downtown is all about, and to see if Carson Kitchen lived up to the hype. As it was just after lunch, the restaurant was empty -- which was perfect since it meant that I could just relax. (Dinner gets particularly hectic, so coming in during the early afternoon is the best time for it.) As someone who's eaten at some of the best restaurants across Las Vegas and Henderson, I can see now why Carson Kitchen is at the top of every foodie's bucket list. The menu is quite creative, with a lot of different items you wouldn't expect to see anywhere else, but everything was on point and was clearly well thought out. Some of my personal favorites included the deviled eggs (topped with caviar and smooth and creamy, I could easily demolish three plates of those by myself!), the killer shrimp (I like that the shrimp were still crispy even though they were slathered in that spicy sauce, which is no small feat), the short rib steak (that pepperoncini pesto was one of the most intensely-flavored sauces I've ever had, and I would pay to have a jar of that stuff to take home), and their watermelon feta salad (so light and refreshing, which was definitely needed considering all the rich food that I had as part of my meal). Make sure to save room for dessert, too -- I had their glazed donut bread pudding for dessert upon recommendation by my server, Rebekah, and it was easily up there as one of the best bread puddings I've had anywhere! And all of this in what's probably the most relaxed dining room I've seen yet. Normally, when I'm going to higher end, award-winning restaurants like this, I have to get dressed up and the dining room kind of feels stuffy, to the point that I feel like I'd rather be elsewhere. Here, though? I literally came in from walking around outside and got seated right away. There was classic rock on the in-restaurant radio. Overall, the vibe feels like you're visiting a friend you haven't seen in years, hanging out in their living room and playing games while eating some of the best food you've had in a while. There's even a patio within the enclosed part of the building where you can take your meal at if you so desired! Needless to say, I'm so glad that I was able to stop in and try the place out; it made the day a little less aggravating and a lot more enjoyable. I'm already thnking of coming back again very soon and trying out the rest of their menu, that's how good this restaurant is! Do yourself a favor -- if you're ever in downtown, go to Carson Kitchen. Oh my...so glad we found this place! It was a total accident as we were walking by on our way to another place. We stopped because it was not overly crowded and we were starving! We sat outside. Great courtyard area. Has a fireplace but it was mid-afternoon and warm so it was not lit. Food is served as it is made. Completely fine with our party of 8 but just a heads up. Everything we had was great. But...the polenta! Oh my. Best I've ever had. I don't know the sauce or whatever the garnish was but do yourself a favor, order it. Saturday early afternoon, I was hoping to eat brunch. Though they only do brunch menu on Sundays. We opted for the better burger and chicken skins. The burger is one of the most ordered per waitress saying. Chicken skins were interesting, served with honey dipping. ( I think some other choice of unique sauce could've paired with it). Or maybe having two sauces.. The burger was okay, had a little sour taste from the sauce that didn't care too much for but still full of flavor. This is considered tapas style "sharing"..so order a few things to go around. I don't recommend going without a reservation. Our service was great. Warm and bubbly, and fairly helpful. We sat outside on the back patio. Not to many places of shade, so during summer days it may be pretty hot! Though we were fortunate enough to sit under an umbrella. Holy moly, the food was amazing! We ventured out and tried the burnt hot dog ends...a must try and probably ordered too much food on top of it but chicken with Alabama sauce was so grub!! Amazing food, fantastic service in a very laid back and comfortable setting. The food! Carson Kitchen has some amazing dishes and based on the variety we tried, I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu given whatever it is you fancy. Even so, there were some stand out plates here that I would highly recommend. We tried the baked Mac and cheese, black rice and oxtail risotto, mushroom flatbread, cauliflower, bacon jam, crispy chicken skins, short rib steak and chicken thigh, bourbon fudge brownie and glazed donut bread pudding. Food favorites: The favorite here for appetizer was the bacon jam. Who doesn't love bacon and this dish is a bacon dream. Order with extra bread because the bacon jam comes in a heathy portion. For entree, the short rib steak was executed perfectly, cooked with a bit of char but still very tender. For an accompanying side dish the black rice and oxtail risotto couldn't be left alone by our party- we kept coming back for more. It was unanimously our tables favorite dish out of everything we tried. The deserts did not disappoint either and I would recommend both with the bread pudding slightly edging out the bourbon brownie (more bacon in the ice cream with this dish)! Both fantastic. While everything was good, two dishes that I would say to possibly consider other option were the Mac and cheese and the cauliflower. Both good and you will be happy with them if you order them, I simply thought they didn't quite hit the amazing category that the other dishes did. Drink menu here is extensive with some great mixed drink concepts of their own. They have a large variety of beers and of course wine as well. Service was top notch. We started at the bar and the bartender was helpful and very friendly. Wait and serving staff were also great- drinks never ran dry and our food was brought out promptly. The ambiance at the restaurant is very laid back. Dress is casual and the wait staff attire reflects this too. Smaller indoor seating and a nice outdoor private patio which is where we sat and recommend, weather permitting. I made a reservation at Carson Kitchen for 9pm during one night of the CES conference. My manager and I arrived on time for our reservation, and the only negative thing I have to say about Carson Kitchen is that it took them almost 30 minutes to seat us. I can't blame this to much on the restaurant, as there were several tables with checks that just wouldn't leave, and the staff was nice and kept us updated. I would have appreciated perhaps a round of drinks on the house considering we had to wait so long to be seated with a reservation and at a later hour. What really drew me to Carson Kitchen was their menu. It is exceptional and there are so many things that I wanted to try! I started with the #Simonsays Sangria, a very tasty concoction of red & white wines with a bit of fizz and fresh fruit. Once we were finally seated, the service was prompt, though it rather had to be since the kitchen was closing soon. We ordered the Duck Tacos and the Deviled Eggs to start. Super impressed with both of these and highly recommend both! The deviled eggs are served with chunks of pancetta (similar to bacon but a bit thicker and firmer), and topped with caviar. The duck tacos were juicy with an Asian preparation, topped with peppers and some thin wonton-type strips giving it a nice subtle crunch. For our meals, we got the Turkey Burger with a side of tater tots and the Mexican Street Polenta. The turkey burger was quite large and came with a double patty. I often find turkey burgers a bit dry, but this one was not! The polenta was very different from what we were expecting, but delicious all the same. We were expecting a bowl of cream-of-wheat-consistency polenta, but it came as a fried, firm block of polenta topped with corn and other seasonings typical of Mexican street corn. Very delicious and aesthetically pleasing as well with all the different colored veggie ornaments on top, including pickled onions, cherry tomatoes, green herbs, and more. The only reason I didn't give Carson Kitchen 5 stars was because of the long and unrectified wait time with a reservation. Aside from the that, the food was absolutely delectable. I would certainly go back to try more things if I was in the Downtown area. Highly recommend, and would suggest trying to get an earlier reservation! read more

Been wanting to go here for days!!! There's way more positives that negatives so I'll start with the loss of star. Classic DTLV smell in the entry way. Not sure if this was just the night we were there but some sort of super loud thunderous banging the whole time we were there. Loud...loud enough I had to raise my voice a few times. None of that was bad enough to stop me from going again. As slammed as they were we were paid quick attention to and taken very good care of. They leave a pitcher of water at the table which if you're from Las Vegas you know is a must. The drinks looked yummy and judging by the energy in the room the bartender probably has a heavy pour but we were not drinking . Cute decor, uptown transit and lots of different tall boys and smaller tables etc. everything is served Community style - my fav - so portion sizes are good. We got a Sunday surprise chicken sandwich with spicy tots. The sandwich was good - not AMAZING - but good. The breading was flakey and crunchy but not greasy. The tots were *chefs kiss* delish. For dessert we had the brown butter burboun brownie. Oh ....my.....gosh... So good!!!!!!! The ice cream had candied bacon pieces and when I say perfection I mean PERFECTION. For chocolate lovers this brownie is just for you. I'm more a chocolate caramel girl than a chocolate on chocolate girl but I had no problem gobbling it down. Very fudge-ish and not cake like. Carson Kitchen looked interesting at first and is highly rated. I really wanted to like it because I prefer locals' places in Vegas and many other cities, but the items we ordered from the smallish menu were mostly meh. The grilled oysters were drowning in a sauce that overpowered the tiny oysters on the shell (not even sure there were any as the shells were almost the size of clam shells and there was seemingly nothing to chew). The mac n cheese had a nice truffle flavor, but was really creamy with a smattering of bread crumbs on top. The best item was the green bean tempura starter, but the dollop of flavored cream cheese it was served with seemed an odd choice - a dipping sauce of some sort would be much better. The short rib flatbread is decent, but is pretty small and light on toppings. The sauce for the steelhead trout dish had a nice curry flavor, but the filet itself was a very small portion (3-4 oz?) especially at a price point that most restaurants charge for a whole trout with sides. It was also served crispy side up which I didn't care for as I rarely eat skin on fish unless it's salmon skin on occasion at a sushi bar). The menu also says the dish comes with rice, but I didn't see any - it was mostly like a curry soup with a trout snack in the middle. We were told everything is a la carte and served family style whenever it is ready, but none of the dishes other than green beans and maybe flatbread (which was my entree) are large enough to share and the random nature of the service made for a disjointed meal. Seems like cocktails are a draw here but I wasn't drinking alcohol and ordered iced tea, which was served in a tiny glass holding mostly ice and maybe 2 oz of liquid that was never refilled. The team works hard and is friendly. One guy in particular did everything from manning the front of the house to taking drink orders, running food to the tables and bussing. A generous tip was in order despite the shortcomings. It's a fairly small space spread across a couple of different rooms and the main dining room can get loud, which makes for a lively neighborhood atmosphere. We stumbled upon Carson Kitchen looking for somewhere to have lunch after hanging out on Fremont street. We came here on a Wednesday afternoon and were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. We shared the devil's eggs, bok choy wedge, grilled oysters and the short rib flat bread. Everything was delicious. My personal favorite was the bok choy wedge. Follows by the grilled oysters with chorizo butter. They had a lot of different spins on classic items which we enjoyed. Had dinner here last night and it was fine. I think with all the excellent reviews the expectations were high and as vegetarians, it didn't happen for us. The service and all were nice. The place is nicely done, though nothing fancy. What we ended up having was the green bean tempura, the mushroom flat bread, and the beets. Staring with the tempura, what caught my eye was the spicy jam. Sadly, it wasn't all that much of a jam and it definitely wasn't spicy. It was more of some creamy stuff and pretty plain. So it just ended up being fried green beans. The flatbread was also kind of meh. I mean it had a lot of mushrooms and olives and they were fine, but there wasn't a distinct taste of a white pizza or truffle oil or anything like that. Just plain Jane mushroom flat bread. Lastly, the beets dish was also fine. I like the flavor and texture added by the goat cheese, but that by itself wasn't enough. After having this on my radar for a few years, I finally got to try this place out. Cozy good vibe place. We sat at the bar because we didn't have reservations, and it was great because the bartenders here are really cool 10/10 for that. Crispy chicken skins are tasty and very crispy and pairs great with the honey 8.3/10. Devil egg was probably my favorite thing, super creamy and delicious with the lardons and caviar 9/10. The shrimp dish was spicy and good 7.8/10. Short rib steak was tender and flavorful, maybe a tad salty 7.9/10. I will try and come back for the oxtail risotto!! read more

Holy cow! Went to this place on a Friday night, 'chefs' seating at the bar overlooking the kitchen. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could. We started with the crispy chicken skins which would have been the outstanding item at most places, but by the time we were done, they were just top four. Duck tacos were so flavorful and surprisingly meaty. The deviled eggs were divine. Before we tried ours, we saw a plate of 23 deviled eggs go out of the kitchen and were laughing that someone really likes deviled eggs. Now I am that person. I think I might go back and get 23 for myself. Then, like we hadn't had enough awesomeness, the polenta. Holy flavor explosion. Service was great. It was a treat to watch the kitchen work. The best tasting meal we have had in a long while. Visually appealing, layers of flavor and the staff service was spot on. In a tourist town that can fall by the wayside after a while...but not here. This place was a nice place for brunch! The plates are large so def share. The pork belly was a little tough and not as melt in your mouth as expected. The chicken skins perfectly crispy and the smoked honey is amaze. Risotto is very very cheesy and it looks small but def fills you up. The cauliflower was well balanced, gives a good punch of flavor. I also tried a shut up Cory and I love their spiced cranberry. This gem is only a few steps away from Fremont Street and is by far one of my favorite dining experiences EVER! And im not over exaggerating, its all around a 5 star experience. Its a smaller restaurant but it helps you connect with your dining companions. I love the updated modern look of the of the restaurant as well. I could've ordered every item on the menu and everything would've been fantastic. It's hard not to because the prices are reasonable. If this spot was on the strip, you would be paying double for the quality of the food. You can tell how much work went into making their Oxtail risotto. It's rich and all of the flavors truly compliment each other. I could say the same about the grilled oysters with the mango topping. Each plate leaves you in awe. And don't let me forget the glazed donut bread pudding!!! Imagine trying Krispy Kreme's right off the line and then someone decides to rebake it with a delicious glaze. I can't forget to mention the service. The wait staff was super cool and was able to answer all of our questions. They were excited to see our reactions to the food and it was genuine. Ok, so I know this won't be popular, but I'm just not getting the whole "Carson Kitchen" fandom! Three of us came in a couple of weeks ago at about 4:30pm to see what it was all about. Walking in to literally a "dead" part of their day, the hostess asked if we had a reservation. I looked around at the two others sitting in the entire restaurant and replied "no". She looked perplexed, and then said, "I'll seat you, but I need that table back in 1 1/2 hours". Now I understand they are extremely popular, EXTREMELY popular, but if a paying customer walks in on they first visit and is told they need to be done in 1 1/2 hours, that just sets the tone for me to be just as "critiquing" back to you! I can see how the interior appeals to the young working professionals they are geared towards, but it is not a "comfortable" hang at all. You also realize quite early that it is meant to be a "tapas" kind of an experience. I personally don't care for tapas, mainly because I don't fall for the "you get to try lots of things on the menu" concept. To me it allows for a restaurant to mark up prices on average small plates and consider it gourmet somehow! We started with the Bacon Jam (Havarti & Toasted Baguettes) which was very good. It's very rich, as a matter of fact you will need something else to cut the constantly rich taste of the dish, and the toasted baguettes were fresh and delicious. At $18, and for what it consist of, overpriced for sure. On to the Short Rib Flatbread which was my personal favorite! The meat was delicious, topped with a quality tasting gouda, and a pickled red onion that made this a very reasonable dish at about $16 due to the quality alone! It was recommended by the hostess, yes the same one that was nervous about us being there 90 minutes before a "presumed" guest would arrive, to try the Chicken Thighs. Naturally the dark meat of the chicken gets little respect, but it will always be much juicier than the respected white meat. Coupled with their Alabama white bbq sauce, this dish was very good indeed. However, knowing that it was small bites of dark thigh meat, it is overpriced at $22 for a tapas style plate. Their "Secret", as they call it, Mac & Cheese needs to be just that...kept secret. This was as good as a box of Velveeta Shells from the grocery store. I seriously couldn't believe that someone dressed as a chef brought that to the table as if presenting something of substance. It was as runny as boxed mac & cheese, the pasta literally swimming in the cheesy sauce, and was on par with Velveeta in terms of flavor...good. At $15 you could make about four boxes of those at home. Hey, they get amazing reviews in big numbers at Carson Kitchen. They won't blink an eye to the occasional one that just doesn't fall for the overpriced place "to be seen". However, if you do decide to go, be sure to make a reservation as to not offend the front hostess on how to seat you 90 minutes early from the arriving throngs that "promise" to show up! read more
