My other half had been wanting to come here for a while so we finally stopped in for a late lunch one day. They were not busy as there was a table of three next to us and a couple on another table. First, the greeting from the host was so unenthusiastic when he finally looked up from whatever paperwork he was looking at. It was uncomfortable walking in as the lady working in the open kitchen just glared at us. Once seated our server was just as lacking in any excitement whatsoever and it just seemed like no one liked their job. We ordered the Steamed Ginger Chicken Dumplings, Tokyo Crepes, Popcorn Chicken Skins, Sizzling Noodles with Chicken and Thai Tea Crème Brulee. First, the steamed ginger chicken dumplings wrap was so rubbery and firm. This is not how the wrap of a "steamed" dumpling should be. The filling on the inside was also dry and I had to wonder how long ago this was steamed and left out? The only thing that helped with this dish was that there was a sauce over it and sadly there wasn't enough sauce to give this dish any moistness. The Popcorn Chicken Skin was not as light and crunchy as I thought it would be. Whatever coating was used before frying the chicken skin seemed a bit heavy. Wouldn't order this again. I did enjoy the Tokyo Crepes and found it flavorful and different. Not sure if the wrap around it was the fried tofu but it was airy, fluffy and light. This is a dish I would order again. The recommended Sizzling Noodles were also good with the noodles having enough of a chew and flavor. The Thai Tea Crème Brulee dessert was a winner. The server who brought this over to our table was a different person who seemed happy to be working there. He dropped the dessert off which looked great (see picture). The top had a nice crackle when broken and the flavor of the thai tea is very mild. Some people may not notice it and think it is too mild but we thought it was wonderfully done. Overall, the service is standard and not very friendly. Maybe everyone was having an off day? The food started off disappointing but was followed by some creative and flavorful dishes. Next we got the sizzling noodles with with chicken. Those were good but after a plateful the sesame oil started to satiate my palate. But I managed to eat a bit more. They were a bit spicy. We wanted to try bao but were too full because we had already been snacking earlier in evening. They do have a small selection of cocktails, wine and beer. Our last day in town and I'd had my eyes set on this place since got to Circa. We arrived and was seated within less than 2-3 min of waiting at the hostess stand. We noticed they always have a nice crowd, to us that spoke to how good the food must be. It's a comfy looking restaurant with typical decor. He had the bloody marry and loveddddd the bacon or chicharron that accompanied it. I had green tea pot. For our meals we had the duck fried rice and ramen. His duck fried rice was so delicious, I tried not to eat half of his bowel. The ramen had a great broth, but I wasn't a fan of the thicker noodles nor how the pork belly was cooked--I'm used to pan seared or whatever style, I was told it was smoked but I couldn't get over the texture being rubbery and no color lol. We love this restaurant! It's our favorite place to get fried rice! Our favorites are the brisket fried rice and the lobster fried rice we also always get the Short rib dumplings (pan fried) to start, they are so delicious and I love the sauce they put on. It's not close to the side of town we're on which is far north west, Skye Canyon,, but we feel it's worth it! The waitstaff is always very attentive and knowledgeable when it comes to the menu. We actually come here often enough that we are very familiar with the menu and we always know exactly what we want to eat and drink! They also offer various bottles of spine sauces that you can add to any of their offerings by request. Next, I tried the Crispy Pork Belly Bacon. The pork belly itself was incredible--tender, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. However, I wasn't a big fan of the tamarind sauce that accompanied it. The Wings were cooked well but tasted fairly plain and a bit underwhelming in terms of flavor. I wrapped up with the Sizzling Noodle with Pork, which was the highlight of the meal. LOCATION / SETTING Circa Hotel and Casino, 2nd floor near Saginaw's Deli. The restaurant is rectangular and long, with seating available at the bar/"kitchen counter" or various tables. Thankfully, the restaurant wasn't crowded on both days we visited, and we were seated immediately. FOOD The menu is fairly simple, and is comprised of small plates, entrees, and desserts. From the small plates section, we tried the stir-fried green beans and the pork belly bao (2 pieces). At both meals, my friend and I both ordered the sizzling noodles. We definitely preferred the green beans over the pork belly bao; we thought $14 was a bit much for 2 bao pieces. The green beans was a very shareable portion for sure. As far as the noodles, the server advised to make sure to mix the dish thoroughly, as all the sauce is sitting at the bottom of the bowl. The noodles/dish were flavorful, and I appreciated the generous serving of vegetables and protein (chicken) that accompanied the dish. SERVICE Our servers were polite and friendly.
