Went in for an early dinner the other day and it was almost empty but delivery orders were steadily being pushed out. Ordering was a little odd and took me a second because of reading their fast-moving, word-heavy screens and I wasn't told whether to take a seat or not when I said it was "for here" so I stood there expecting a tray of food but he brought everything out individually to follow me to my table which was odd all around. That process could be smoother. Nice counter service otherwise, though! Ordered a Mahi Mahi Bowl w/ Rice, Avocado, Pineapple/Onion Salsa, Fried Plantains & Sweet Potato Fries w/ a side of spicy mayo. Price ($31) for both was a little high, in my opinion, since everything was a fairly flavorless (especially the salsa and Mahi Mahi) and didn't come with any type of included sauce on the side. Fries and the tiny cup of spicy mayo were on poiiint. The cup wasn't enough for the order of fries even with me going light on dipping so I had to ask for a 2nd one. Just saw the prices on the menu again and definitely think $20 - $30 a plate for most plates is not worth it based on the photos I saw here. Still love the unique combo of lunch offerings, especially the other power bowls that they offer. I'd eventually come back to try something else for lunch and the carrot options -- carrot juice + carrot cake. I think there are better, more flavorful places for the value/ingredient quality ratio nearby. read more

I tried Carrot Express via a Yelp Elite event and really enjoyed it, so I decided to come back on my own time! Came at around 8:30 pm on a Wednesday for pick up and only waited just about 7 min for my food to be ready. I ordered the Liv Wrap, which was nice and warm, and paired nicely with the Cilantro Lime sauce given. Only con was that there were about 2 pieces of really overcooked and inedible chicken in my wrap, but otherwise it was very good. There's a bathroom for customers, which was clean. Always wanted to check out this place for lunch since it's close to my office. I went and ordered the Liv Wrap which was $18.99 (before tax). I think it's pretty expensive for a wrap but it did taste like it had high quality ingredients, esp the chicken. I did enjoy the basil pesto sauce that came on the side. The wrap was on the smaller side which was disappointing for the price you're paying. Would I get it again? Probably not, but would be open to try the bowl. read more

The BLUE MAGIC was delicious, I've had always issues having spirulina or maca added to smoothies without masking the bitter taste but this smoothie makes it so easy to have these added on. I want to try every single smoothie on the menu. Moving on to the food, I got the salmon+ quinoa bowl to go and let me tell you it did not disappoint. The lemon sauce it comes with really complemented the sweet/sour sauce they add to the quinoa bowl. The grilled brussel sprouts and cabbage made it extra crunchy and not boring to eat as protein meal after a workout. The place looked cleaned and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The person who took my order recommended they smoothie I ordered. Will def be coming back for the protein bowls and smoothies pretty soon. I'm always skeptical of the rise of health-centric restaurant chains, but Carrot Express seems to be an exception to this. Their salmon platter was delicious and reflective of high quality restaurant versions where you have to pay $20 more. It was also neatly places onto the plate so that all the side items are separated (in case you're one of those folks who don't like their food touching). For a near-$20 sandwich I expect near-excellence on a bun. This is not something to be found here. The ciabatta was at least a day old and came untoasted (toasting it would've hidden its age and enabled me to swallow the bread without struggling). The chicken salad on top was so bland, I couldn't even be sure it was chicken. The sandwich & salad deals consist of a 1/2 sandwich plus salad. But they cost about the same as a full-sized sandwich, which comes with the same kind of salad. So, you're paying the same price but for less stuff. This was my first visit to a Carrot Express. It was a Wednesday at 6pm. What's most confusing is that they have many items lit up on the signs over the counter but it's more of an ad than a menu which they have in physical paper form at the counter. It was empty when I arrived but with lots of deliveries going out. Some people came in, looked around then left. I didn't yet know about the menu but I looked online earlier and ordered the Legal wrap. I ate my $17 sandwich at one of the tables. I just want to start off by saying the staff here is super friendly and welcoming which is always nice. It's very clean. I didn't know what to order so I asked what she recommended - she said the Miso Salmon Bowl. Done. Mind you I read the reviews that it's pricey - and it is. This bowl in particular was $30, and I was taking it to go. Mind you I don't mind paying that much but my expectation / bar is a lot higher so I took a chance. Everything was cooked to standard but it was very bland IMO. I wish I asked for extra miso sauce on the side. I also didn't realize it was supposed to be cilantro brown rice until I reread the menu on Yelp - not a cilantro in sight. I have been twice so far and really enjoyed everything I have tried-pesto chicken bowl with kale, corn, and brown rice is very large portioned and tasty. Probably very caloric if you eat the whole bowl but I had half for dinner and took the rest for lunch the next day. LOVED the skinny greens smoothie, not chalky at all, very cool that they use Vital Proteins as their powdered protein. My hubs and I have also had the Turkey/egg white wrap and the LIV chicken/kale/quinoa wrap (very hearty but heavy on greens and grains if you're into that). The granola bowl is banging too because it had had so much variety! Pineapple, grapefruit, banana, strawberry, blueberry, and coconut. One star off because it's SO EXPENSIVE. As in sweet green might be cheaper. Some of their bowls are over $20...and for a casual food stop, even if the quality is great I don't think I can be a regular. You could share the poke bowl, but you may not want to share the carrot cake. The playlist is a compilation of upbeat hits, just the right rhythm and volume. Staff is as polite as the food is fresh. Friendly and enthusiastic about all the items on the menu; I took the recommendation for the smoothie. The smoothie is a meal and delight in itself. Lots of almond butter makes it creamy but not overpowering, with a lovely hint of vanilla. Again, another taste sensation that stands alone. For the bowl, I appreciated the sauce cups filled half way. Not a sauce person, I wanted the fresh taste of the ahi tuna and seaweed, yet I also wanted what the chef intended. I didn't want to be overwhelmed by the sauce. I added bit by bit and used about 1/2 what was offered- and the spicy mayo and eel sauce enhanced each forkful. Was hesitant to eat here after the reviews, but went in on a Wednesday evening at rush hour and was pleasantly surprised. Most of the staff is Hispanic, which is great to see! They speak English perfectly well enough for you to understand what they're saying (since some people said otherwise in the comments). We ordered the Mario's Favorite Chicken Bowl but subbed for tofu and the Pitaya power smoothie. Both were made-to-order and delicious! The food is standard Times Square price, but actually healthy for you. The service was quick, the staff was friendly, the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The sauces added some extra flavor to the dishes, which already were great to me. Had a slice of carrot cake for dessert which was also very yummy. I read online that Carrot Express wants to pioneer healthy, delicious meals, and I certainly agree with that. I ordered the poke bowl with salmon to go, which was *huge* and came out super quickly. I've had poke bowls before in the city - they usually tend to be on the smaller side, but this one was packed with carrots, onion crisps, edamame, and a generous portion of salmon. While the bowl came out to around $22, I think it was definitely worth the price. It was empty on a Saturday afternoon, which is understandable given the weather, but still probably not the greatest sign. I honestly can't believe I paid more than $18 for this sad little salad. Got the Ancient grains salad, and it really lived up to its name: the grains were kinda ancient (ie not fresh) indeed. You can see a dried clump of brown rice. The menu also isn't well labeled if things are vegan or not (some are labeled, some are not but then you question why is the tofu not vegan?). I asked the employee, and English wasn't his first language, which isn't a problem itself, but he reassured me that "all the salads are vegan", which many clearly have cheese so they are not unless modified, which is what he might have meant. I asked him if the tofu was vegan and he said yes, but I didn't bother trying it. The lemongrass ginger dressing was light and sweet and salty asian style, which is my preferred dressing type, but it may have had honey? Who knows. Definitely clearer labeling is necessary, especially coming from a restaurant that lauds itself as health conscious and tailored to a particular audience that includes flexitarians and vegans alike. read more
