My review is primarily on customer service after they made not one, but two mistakes. We have ordered pies as part of fundraisers with a favorite being pumpkin cheesecake pie during the last few years. This year the fundraiser didn't happen, instead my sister drilove to Nanuet and purchased the pies in person. The pecan pie was amazing! The pumpkin cheesecake, was not received instead being a terrible pumpkin pie. As the pie accompanied us to Thanksgiving dinner, NO ONE ATE IT! I called Friday and was told this happened a lot! I could bring the wrong pie and pick another up was their answer!! Friday, my sister was at dinner, no pumpkin cheesecake!!! WTH! I expect a business to make good, offer something, say they are sorry...NOTHING. read more

Birthday time for me! More importantly what cake should I indulge in to celebrate? Searching for various chocolate cakes, I came across the Brooklyn Blackout Cake; seemingly a cake of the past, relegated to myth and lore. Reading about this cake, one of the best versions available was made by Carousel Cakes, so despite a pretty lengthy drive (70 miles one-way), I decided to pay a visit to their bakery. Let me tell you, it was worth the drive! The New York Blackout Cake was so yummy. The cake was ridiculously moist, bordering on a fine line of being too soft (where just a bit of extra softness would cause the cake to collapse), but stable enough to stand on it's own. I swear you could cut a slice with a piece of regular copy paper. These attributes show the skills on the part of the baker(s) at Carousel. Nestled between the soft cake layers were three layers of chocolate pudding. The pudding had such a delicious milk chocolate taste, but was not overly sweet. The pudding's texture was so perfect for me, with a consistency and texture akin to a slightly thicker version of whipped cream. My only quibble, as small as it may be, was the crumb the entire cake was coated with. I was expecting the crumb to provide a nice change up in texture from the supremely moist cake, but it was devoid of any crunch. The crumbs were almost the same texture as the actual interior of the Blackout cake, so it really added no benefit to the experience. Nonetheless, I was so happy to enjoy a slice (well it wound up being two slices) to celebrate my birthday! read more

I've ordered many of cakes from here last year both my kids birthday cakes were from here the blue and red velvets were hits that's it! I was totally pissed when I picked up my daughters second birthday cake which was requested to print a photo of Mickey Mouse in the cake. The photo already had "Happy Birthday" on it so I requested that they only write my daughters name on the cake. If I had picked up this cake the day before I would've demanded my money back. I got a tiny sloppy photo on the side of the cake and and "happy birthday" on it TWICE! I was so embarrassed of this cake and wasted my money. And the girl was super rude and unapologetic when I told her the cake looked horrible as if I offended her. She didn't say a word just sat there rolling her eyes! It is the best cake I have ever eaten in my life, plus it arrived here in Texas in perfect condition on an 88 degree day. We bought our cake and pie through a fund raiser. I was happy to know that they offered fund raisers for the community and therefor was quick to sample their products. I'm a lemon meringue girl myself but they have nothing similar on the menu so we settled with a pecan pie and the chocolate mousse cake for the man. The orders were delivered correctly and presentation get's 5 stars. The next day we ate the pecan and it was alright. Nothing to mail home to mom, but good for a $15 pie. The chocolate mousse cake I didn't get to sample at first because the MAN decided to hide it in the freezer in the box under a bunch of things and pretend like he wasn't digging into it for weeks... What. A. Butt. Oh sure, it was for him, well so, what if I just wanted a piece!?! Anyway I took a piece eventually and it was yummy but not my thing. So more for him =P So far I'm not really impressed. I would get the chocolate mousse again for the man but then I'd have nothing for myself, and we can't have that. My friends know to purchase this for me every birthday. They have the best service, & recently their customer service went above & beyond. Last week I had a custom cake made for my best friends 25th birthday...I had ordered it about 12 days in advance to be on the safe side! The young lady who took my order wrote down what I wanted & the size/design. I had emailed the design as she told me right there on the spot....well the day I was scheduled to pick up the cake the design I had ordered was completely messed up! It was a miscommunication error played from the associate to the decorator & even though I needed the new cake within the 4 hours they made it happen!! I've known of this place since my mom used to get the Carrot Cakes here in the 80s. If you're not a local, it's not easy finding this place or even knowing about it. With Rockland Bakery about a mile away, it's interesting this place is around. Definitely could have more action if the storefront was more inviting instead of a brown brick warehouse exterior with a cumbersome parking lot entrance. The sales girl/cashier/everything else could have been more enthusiastic. And there's a charge for writing? Shouldn't that be free like other bakeries? I had many options to choose from but not wanting to pack on too many pounds, I got the tried and true Carrot Cake. I haven't had this since the 80s. Not what I remember and it is filled with raisins and shredded carrot. Could be better in terms of not being so hearty, but great nonetheless. Did I forget the prices are amazingly reasonable? The woman on the phone was pretty short with me, but I still figured I would give this place a go since they had the exact cake I wanted for my boyfriend's birthday. I love Black Forest Cake. This is certainly not it. It masks as a descent chocolate cake but not even the greatest. First time I had Black Forest Cake was in Banff Canada many years ago. It was made the old fashioned way. Carousel makes it look like black forest cake but it is a far cry from the real thing. They should drop this cake from the store. I want my money back. read more

Watch out! The company is a bunch of liars and practitioners of false advertising. In September 2020, I ordered a rather pricey chocolate fudge cake from Carousel Cakes (through goldbelly.com) for my father's 90th birthday because his mother used to make them for him when he was a kid. I remember that the girl I talked to at the company assured me that there would be actual chocolate fudge in the cake, or on top, not just your run-of-the-mill chocolate fudge flavored frosting et al.. Well, I was lied to. There was no chocolate fudge either in the cake or on top, just your average chocolate fudge flavored frosting and filling. When I complained, I was only offered the standard "10% off your next order." B.F.D.! This company should not be allowed to write or advertise that they make cakes with chocolate fudge, when it is only chocolate fudge flavored. Still love this place but was disappointed when I ordered a 2 Tier cake for my daughters first birthday. I drove from Queens New YORK to get this cake. It did not make it home. I think they use buttercream on the outside instead of fondant which tastes a lot better but I needed the cake more for the look this time than the taste. Had they froze the cake it would have made the drive home. When I opened the box at home the entire top tier had slid off and the B E and R were ruined. Some stars came off and the rainbow melted a little. Real bummer. This cake was for a photo shoot. It tasted great though. I called to see if they took a before picture so I could still post it. They said if I bought the cake back they would try to fix it but I live too far so I declined. I recommend you guys freeze your specialty cakes along with your other cakes and cupcakes. read more

This is the warehouse store - you walk in and its a tiny room with a desk to order from; it is not intended to be a fancy bakery location. You order the cakes off of lists on the walls, there are also a few color photographs. They have a small cupcake display case, and another case to display a few examples of cakes. After you order, they bring out the cake in the box and open it up for you to make sure you want it. You can also have them write "Happy Birthday" or other such sayings. They also have a book of photographs available to order a speciality cake. These cakes are made at wholesale prices (about $15 - $30 each) and they sell online for $50+! Online they also have a whole list of New York restaurants they sell to, people pay $6 - 10 a slice in the city for the same cakes. On Fridays, they sell slightly damaged cakes with nicks or dents, but nothing that bad at a discounted rate. Cash only. I recently ordered a custom cake for a large party. It tasted average but came out looking super tacky. While trying to order the cake over the phone the young woman on the other end continuously interrupted me and changed every idea that I had said I wanted for the decoration of the cake. When they say they're decorating with silver leaves they're not talking about creating the leaves out of frosting and putting edible metallic powder on them.
