Caroline's is an eatery on Duval Street that has delicious food and an enormous patio with a small square bar that you can drink at in the front of the place. It is the spot to people watch on Duval as you eat and drink moderately priced good. I've had excellent burgers, Buffalo wings, fresh catch Sammie's, and seafood pasta over the years. If you can go during a busy weekend.. The people watching walking up and down Duval is ridiculous! Lots of drunks and people in costume and vacationers from all over the world! Now if you go in the summer months, I highly suggest you ask for seating inside as it can be pretty unbearable in Key West with no breeze. Indoor seating is limited, so call ahead. One of my favorite, super casual spots on Duval St, this place serves up great drinks and great food for a great price and the people watching is hilarious! read more

My husband thought two stars was too generous but let's say 1.5 stars. We came to have a late dinner at 10:00 pm after a comedy show and in fairness we have eaten here before and it was ok so we weren't thinking it would be bad. Everything just seemed to be going in slow motion once we got seated. I could see things happening but just not with us. Our server told us the bartender lost our drink order so we waited again for them to come. We almost got up and walked out after our drinks came because everything just seemed off and weird. I should have listened to my husband, thrown a $20 on the table and got a hot dog on the corner. My husband had the worst jambalaya he's ever had. Too much going on and it didn't seem fresh. The shrimp wasn't local. My shrimp blt was barely ok as well. The toasted bread was cold when it came out but at least the fries were lukewarm. The server kept thanking us for our patience but honestly it wasn't crowded at all and it didn't seem necessary for us to such a bad experience. I would say grab a hotdog or a slice of pizza before here. read more

I've had a lot of blacken dolphin sandwiches in my day, and the one here is damn good. Fresh fish, good size, great bread, and a kickin' blacken seasoning. It might be one of the best! Also had a rum punch (too much Malibu rum) and a rum runner... they were ok. read more

Best part of this place is the people watching. The outside bar and seating look over Duval street to take in the sights. Spicy margarita wasn't very good. The usual selections for beer. The conch fritters were just ok, nothing special or that I would order again. I wouldn't rush back. read more

Was walking Duval street with my mom and we wanted to grab a couple cocktails and apps. We were seated immediately and got our drinks within a few minutes. We sat outside on the patio and got a great view of the street to people watch. We ordered the conch fritters and seared ahi tuna appetizers. Gretchen, our waitress, was incredibly pleasant and accommodating. I ordered the key west lemonade, it was mouth watering. The conch fritters were juicy and tender. The ahi tuna with wasabi was outstanding! It came with a red Chile soy sauce which was different but delicious. Will definitely be coming back ! read more

I would give this place a 5, but what I can tell you is that the food was definitely a 5 but the service brings down the score. The bruschetta was fresh and perfectly seasoned with just enough balsamic. I was also craving a classic turkey club and their's did not disappoint. It was full and put together beautifully with and even distribution of all items. Their fries also go perfect with the club. If you are in the mood for something classic tasting but really good, then this is the place you should check out. We enjoyed sitting by the sidewalk so you can see all the people passing by. It is fun to people watch and see how many people there are that go by the place. It's such a great tourist destination. read more

Great little open-air cafe on Duval St. Very friendly staff. We tried the dolphin fingers, which are fried strips of mahi-mahi that were not greasy at all. We finished lunch with a slice of keylime cheesecake. Not too tart and very good. read more

Simply charming Duval St merchant. Having lunch here was simply delightful establishment and offered some amazing food delicacy's . Since I sat in the outside seating section I had the best view for zombie and tourist sitings. Our server was a excellent guide to our needs & pleasures. He gave us plenty of time to preview the menu so we could make well informed choices, while never once trying to rush or hurry us along. I ordered the Tex Mex Egg Rolls appetizer which if your considering them , DO IT! They are scrumptious and a slight heat kick but it all adds to the flavor splash to your taste buds. For my main coarse I had a salad with fried chicken, corn, black beans, cheese with a cilantro / lime sauce. For me I would rather have French dressing or a tad stronger version of what dressing was served. If I was drinking today all the cocktails looked amazing, but since it was a non drinking day I had no reference other than site. I cannot honestly say if they tasted great. but looked damn good. If you hanging in Key West and need a meal I can saying this place rocked. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. I have been to key west multiple times and will always choose to eat here at least once. The atmosphere is great and it's a perfect spot for key west people watching. The staff is excellent, and Chester the friendly rooster will come by for a visit at any given time. There's too many good food option to list, but this time around I ordered the shrimp club and my boyfriend ordered the cheesesteak. Perfect as always, good fries too! My boyfriend and I ducked in hoping to grab a quick takeout meal before getting on the Key West Express. Service was quick and courteous, with the bartender offering us ice water while we waited. We only waited 10 minutes for fries, friend dolphin, and a salad -- and food was delicious, much better than we would have expected from an everyday cafe. 11/10! read more

Wow, we were really impressed by this divey restaurant/bar that was clearly situated at the center of Key West's tourist land. We were craving veggies after spending so long in South Florida, and so we ordered the Yellow-Tail Tuna salad and their signature fried fish sandwich. For drinks, we got the golden margarita and a classic mojito - both were good, nothing special, but for the cheap prices, you can't really complain. The service was quick as well, and we liked the chill vibe - no pretension in sight. Both dishes were amazing - the yellow-tail tuna salad was exactly what we needed - fresh greens, light vinaigrette, and just the right amount of seasoned, pan-seared tuna. The sandwich was also stellar - not heavy at all, light batter, and made me never want to have a McDonalds Filet-O-Fish ever again. read more

I ordered with my husband salad with sauce which had too much of vinegar. After few tries my acids in stomach went crazy. Couldn't eat as was feeling only acid vinegar is inside. Manager was nice and offered something else in place. My husband gave up, ate 1/3 of bad salad and stopped eating As well. I asked for small Cesar salad as side. we asked also waitress for water twice, after second tequest she brought it only one glass for my husband. In the end we were asked to pay for both salads fully. The bill was 45$ and I left 50$ and was waiting for the change, instead waitress came with the table that for bill 45$ she expects at least 18% of tip... I was speachless.... I have told her politely that we received salads that we couldn't eat, we asked for the water twice and she brought only one glass and in the end we were asked to pay for these disgusting salads...which we haven't ate. I told her that what left it's enough.... Still shocked what nerve did she have in demanding a higher tip that is not an obligation? Totally not nice cafe read more

Walking down Duval hungry and happened on Caroline's. And so glad we did. Ordered the Macon Bacon Salad, YUM! Delicious balance of ingredients: scrumptious chicken, greens were fresh but the bacon and candies pecans put this salad over the top. Hubs started with conch chowder (I don't do seafood) he said was okay. His entree was the yellow fin salad, he said the tuna was cooked perfectly. We finished with the most delicious slice of key lime pie. Overall good experience and would highly recommend based on prompt seating and service, and the quality of the food. read more

Order the Conch fritters... you will not be disappointed! The Resturant only has outside seating but people-watching on Duvall will make that worth it. The food is good, service is laid back (not obsessively checking on you but not neglectful) it's a great bite! read more

Love, love, love this place! This was a much needed rest stop as we perused the streets of Key West and not am I glad we stopped! I ordered the Mango Delight and my husband ordered The Crazy Lady Blonde Ale. The Mango Delight was amazing!! The Crazy Lady was.... beer. Nothing special about it. Now to the good part, the bruschetta! Large portion and super tasty! A friend ordered the hot wings which were really good. The reason I know this is because he also ordered Rev. Joe's Burger abs didn't realize how HUGE the burger is, so we ended up with a few chicken wings LOL. All in all wonderful experience, very friendly service & a cool atmosphere. read more

Terrible place. Don't get the pasta it doesn't taste good at all it's just really spicy and no flavor. Waitress was so terrible and rude her name was Uliana we told her we did not like the pasta and to take it off our bill because we did not eat it. She came back later and it was still on the bill even though we told her other wise. She then got an attitude because we told her to take it off which then a manager came and started asking us questions as to why we didn't say something earlier with an attitude even though we did not even have more than two bites so we're guessing that the waitress lied and said we ate it. Very unprofessional place and terrible from Uliana at least. Tip was included even though it was not deserved, never going back. Honestly food was okay nothing special for everyone else. read more

I'm not sure why this place is popular. The food is very average. We were vacationing from a state that doesn't have fresh seafood, so we were excited to try some of the items on their menu. It turns out that all of their seafood is frozen & shipped in from Chicago. Only the catch of the day was fresh. It was ok, but not a place I would return to or recommend. read more

As a return visitor of Key West, I would rank Carolines above average. The fish sandwich I had was huge, and I couldn't finish it. The quality of the fish was below average because it tasted salty. However my wifes dish was excellent. My wife ordered a gingerale so be aware that if it looks like sprite...no dark ale color it still maybe be gingerale. I'm not a gingerale connoisseur, but even in taste, it's not much different than a Sprite. The waitress later said their Gingerales were "light" LOL. EDIT: I just Googled gingerale. It says "a clear effervescent nonalcoholic drink flavored with ginger extract." Wow...so all those hundreds of flights where it pours out of a Canada Dry can I have been deceived. I learn new things every day. The waitress was attentive. There was someone, maybe a manger who came around later making sure everything was good. I have been to KW over a dozen times. I'll be back to Carolines. read more

Our first time to how many places to choose to eat! We try to eat someplace different every day for breakfast lunch and dinner to experience different things while in Key West. We ended up eating at Carolines twice both times for lunch. Everything on their menu was fantastic. We got something different each time it's an outside seating very small and quaint but the customer service was top notch. If you want a really good burger, this is the pot. I also got the Cobb salad one day my husband got the club everything we've gotten there was fantastic, definitely a relaxing environment with great service. If we ever come back to Key West, Carolines will be on our list. read more

Ordered a burger and it came out raw as heck and the buns were soaked. Fries were freezing cold and soggy as well. I had to wait to pick it up and opened it within 15 minutes but I didn't think to check the food at the restaurant. (My mistake.. just thought I could at least enjoy a sub par burger worst case scenario) when I opened it up I was shocked at how miserably sad this thing looked. I called the restaurant and asked if anything could be done as I didn't want to walk the 15 minutes back to the restaurant and then have to wait an additional 45 minutes which is how long it took for the first burger to be made. They simple said no and we're assholes about it. Anyways, here is what to expect when eating here. read more

Glad we found this one! The fish sandwich was delish. Messy but delish! I split with my husband. Next time, we'll each get a whole one. We had great seats to people watch too. Inexpensive considering our other meals during our stay. Very happy to end our Key West experience at this gem. read more

Service was pretty meh. This is definitely a tourist trap and I do not recommend going. We came during the week at peak dinner hour. When I walked in the host was a tall scrawny guy with tattoos on his arm and a dumb look on his face. I had to say hi to him twice to get him to acknowledge me despite the fact he was looking DIRECTLY AT ME. Our server seemed disinterested from the beginning. We had to tell them twice we were only 3 people and they kept bringing more waters for 4 people. Our waiter wasn't conversational and barely made eye contact which was very different from all the other places we'd been to, including Lucy's which was just down the street. Their menu isn't that impressive in my opinion. We got the dolphin fingers which was mahi mahi. It was good and Tatar sauce was good but nothing to get excited over. Someone in our group commented that it had the same texture as chicken strips. I got broccolini which was essentially chicken Alfredo with normal broccoli, not Broccolini. It was good in the way that lean cuisine microwaveable pasta is good. The chicken in the dish was barely discernible from the pasta because it was GHOST WHITE as in probably no seasoning and probably pre frozen. The burger was just average. The catch of the day was also average but they didn't tell us what the fish actually was. My drink apparently had two shots of vodka but it tasted like normal lemonade and I ended up leaving half of it when we left. The back of my fork also had black spots on it as if it was rusting. Overall the atmosphere was indifferent. I'm a little surprised at how many stars they have. read more

Caroline's Cafe, named after Caroline Street, was the owners' first restaurant on Duval Street. Caroline's provides hearty Caribbean fusion food in a laid-back atmosphere with Key West style. Food: I always enjoy when a restaurant offers a creative and inventive cocktail menu. I won't go into detail on each one, but they were all very good, especially the Spiced Old Fashioned. At our server's suggestion, we ordered a couple of plates of the Grilled Ciabatta Bread. The bread was nicely grilled, and the roasted garlic manchego butter made it especially delicious. I normally try not to fill up on bread, but this was absolutely worth it. We ordered an eclectic mix of small and large plates. Some of the standout dishes included the Lobster Mac and Cheese, Swordfish, and Crab Cake. The Brussels sprouts took top honors, perfectly roasted without being greasy, full of flavor, and complemented by a generous amount of bacon. The one disappointment was the Pork Shank Osso Buco. While it was tender, it was only warm and a bit underseasoned. It was good, but not great, especially for someone who enjoys pork shank dishes. We saved room for dessert, and they were all crowd pleasers. My personal favorite was the Cuban Bread Pudding. The Chocolate Pistachio Crème Brûlée was also unique and delicious. Service: We had reservations for 7:30 and were seated promptly. The hostess and our server did a great job of making us feel welcome. The entire two-hour meal was well paced, and we always felt attended to. I was especially impressed with the backlit menu portfolios. They made it easy to read in the evening without guests needing to use their phone flashlights, which was a thoughtful and effective use of technology. Since we were celebrating a birthday, they placed a sign on the table acknowledging the occasion, which was a nice touch. It would have been even better if one of the desserts had included a lit candle. Atmosphere: The setting is beautiful. We were seated in a smaller dining room with several other tables. When we first arrived, there was a larger, very boisterous group nearby, and it made it difficult to hear our server. Fortunately, they left about 30 minutes into our meal, and the atmosphere became much more relaxed and enjoyable. Our waterfront view added to the experience. This was a very special evening. It was also the most expensive meal we had in Key West, so it was reasonable to have high expectations. With a few improvements, it could have been a five-star experience. Definitely a place we would return to.

The conch fritters were overcooked and burnt. They were extremely hard and crunchy. We did notice that the cook stepped away for a long time while our conch fritters were in the deep fryer cooking, causing them to be overcooked. However, we were the only customers there, so they could have easily remade a fresh batch that was not overcooked. I would not try this shack again or recommend it to others.

We also devoured the lobster Mac and Cheese as a starter. I would definitely recommend dining her if you want higher end service and food right on Duval Street.
