We thought the food was delicious! We ordered the OMG 24 Layer Chocolate Cake and it was HUGE! Enough for at least 4 people!

Had another great experience at this Carnegie Diner location just last week and would like to thank Jennifer for her attentive service and warm hospitality! I ordered the fettuccine alfredo with chicken this time, which came out tasting exactly the way I had been craving it, and I was reminded why this Carnegie Diner had established a positive association in my memory years ago. The restaurant is modern and functional, so not a "retro"-styled or nostalgic diner, and the food and service are the stars here. I look forward to returning with friends. read more

We stayed in NY for four days and had an amazing time!! Each day we dined at the Carnegie on 7Av & 57th St. we had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast- Pancakes, waffles & chicken loaded with bacon!! The desserts were massive in size and just as delicious. Bring your appetite!! The staff were friendly and fast. The food came fairly quickly and hot. The location is right on the corner just a block from the park. Easy to find. Classic diner design with traditional booths. It all made you feel welcome. read more

This place is busy. We decided to come here before our flight back home. It was close enough to the Thompson, so we walked over. had to wait a good 10-15 minutes. There was already a line inside when we got there, but they did a fantastic job getting everyone seated in a good amount of time. The restaurant is definitely on the small side and very tight, but the staff here know how to navigate this place. The person working the food was a machine. She did a fantastic job making sure the food came out correctly and handed it to the servers. I had a front row seat and just watched her orchestrate the whole time. Anyways, I ordered the pastrami on rye and the wife ordered the pastrami reuben. The food came out at a good pace. One thing I noticed is that Carnegie rolls up their pastrami. Most deli's I've been to usually would slice the meat and lay it on the bread, but not here. I can see why they roll it up as it gives you the impression that you are getting a lot of meat. But the problem is that there are parts of the bread where there's no meat whatsoever. I'd rather have them lay the meat on the bread so that every bite I get a bit of meat also. I just ended up not eating the part that was just bread. However, I do love that they toast the bread. Gives it a nice crunch when you bite in to it. I did think it was odd that they give you a side salad with balsamic vinegar. Afterwards, we got a slice of their NY Cheesecake. This was probably the biggest piece of NY Cheesecake I've ever gotten at a Deli. Usually it's sliced thinner than this. It was topped with strawberries that tasted like jam. The cheesecake was good and not too sweet. It had that thickness and smoothness from a NY Cheesecake. This is definitely not a place where you would eat and chit chat. It's more of a get in, get out type of place so they can turn over the table for the next guests. read more

I rated this place a 4 instead of a 5 because their tables are so small and the seating is so awkward where we sat. Not very comfortable and too close to people. Other than that, it was super busy but we didn't wait very long, they do a good job of keeping it moving. The food was also really good! I had an omelet I forgot to take a picture of and my daughter had pancakes. I love that they have cute little bottles of maple syrup. Great breakfast food! read more

Drink of Choice: Water - however if you would like to drink they offer bottomless mimosas, Bellinis and bloody Mary's as well as $10 margaritas! Food: Buttermilk Pancakes and French Fries (with feta and oregano) Food was amazing. The start of the show was definitely the French fries with the oregano and feta! If you must get something I definitely suggest grabbing those. The pancakes were made to order and super fluffy. You get three very large pancakes so it's definitely worth the price. All the meals are large and honestly enough for you to share with friends! Sorin was our server and he was amazing! Very kind and also checked in with us regularly. There was never a time during our meal that we were looking for him or needed anything. Overall great experience will definitely be back! read more

Our experience at the Carnegie Diner was nothing short of great! We booked a reservation for 11:45am on a Saturday and are glad we did. Do not show up here without a reservation, as it is very popular! The interior is your typical diner vibe. We loved seeing the pastries on display in the case while we queued for the table to be ready. I had the avocado salad with chicken, and my mom opted for the salted caramel waffle and hash browns. Everything was delicious and huge portions. Our waitress was very slow and didn't check on us much at all, but the great food made up for it. Make sure to stop by here with a reservation! read more

Food: solid food. The lollipop pancakes for kids are genius, my daughter was thrilled. My eldest ordered the hasbrowns and loved them. Service: all the waiters were so nice and accommodating to me and my kid. Ambiance: very cute ambiance read more

There's some great places to sit on one side of the place--booths and cozy tables and whatnot. But you won't be allowed to sit there without a reservation--even though plenty places to sit in that area remained empty for the duration of my visit. Instead, I had to sit at a wobbly table by the entrance. The plant-based lentil soup itself was very good--but it was brought to me with bread with real butter on it. Ridiculous mistake to make for a place that prides itself on its plant-based section of its menu. The plant-based meatball appetizer is phenomenal. Maybe the best vegan meatballs I've ever had. But it's quite bizarre that this place doesn't just cook up some pasta and toss them with the marinara / meatballs and make that a dish. I'd get that all the time. It would be really good. We're talking cents worth of pasta, and they'd be able to mark it up, and it'd be a hit. I prefer the Carnegie Diner location over near Madison Square Garden. That spot is a little cleaner and more upscale. This is more of a greasy spoon. Which is fine if you're in the mood for that. Great view of Carnegie Hall, by the way, I will say that. read more

Stopped by randomly for a dinner. We were craving a salad but the salad prices were quite high in comparison to the sandy so we went for that. The works was awesome, love the coleslaw and the sauce. The salad was simple but effective to be filling. The pastrami was yummy just a bit too fatty for me. After trying this sandwich I definitely want to come back for a club. The waffle was delish. Bacon tasted a bit old and wasn't as crunchy as it can be. Fruit cocktail was a nice refreshing touch to cut the heaviness. Our waitress was nice but I would've appreciated if she touched the table a tad bit more. We had to flag her down for a ginger ale refill. But otherwise she was a delight. Ambiance was alright! Just a reliable diner vibe. Nothing crazy, just right. read more

I was starving on a recent Friday night after going to a show taping on 57th Street, and was looking for an alternative to the Brooklyn Diner. I've been to other eateries in this spot: the Diner seems to be doing better than its predecessors. The menu has a good number of options that are pretty reasonably priced (unlike some other diners in Manhattan). I opted for the tuna melt, and the platter was generously sized. I thought the tuna could have used a little more seasoning, but I appreciated that it wasn't doused in mayo. Excellent fries. I'm not a big fan of chains, but the brand is solid. read more

Stopped by Carnegie Diner for a quick solo meal after running errands in the area, and this ended up being a great choice. I ordered the Kale Chicken Caesar Salad, which comes with grilled chicken, kale, Caesar dressing, croutons, Parmesan cheese, and a huge piece of buttered bread. I also added grilled steak cooked medium because apparently one protein wasn't enough for me. Both the chicken and steak were flavorful, and the steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it. The salad was filling enough to feel like an actual meal rather than just something light. I also ordered the Strawberry Margarita, which was only $10 thanks to their all day, everyday margarita special. And listen, they are NOT playing with that margarita. It was strong but still tasted really good, which is exactly the balance I want from a cocktail. I ate alone and really liked the seating setup. I had a cute little booth that felt perfect for a solo diner, but it would work just as well for two people. The restaurant also has plenty of seating for larger groups, so it seems like an easy choice whether you're eating alone or coming with friends or family. The servers were attentive to me and assisted me quickly. They also checked in on me multiple times. The interior was another highlight. There's a beautiful wall covered with different pieces of artwork that adds a lot of character to the restaurant and makes the space feel much more visually interesting than your typical diner. Overall, this was a great quick meal while I was out running errands. Good food, a surprisingly strong $10 margarita, and a comfortable atmosphere for dining solo. I'd definitely stop in again when I'm in the area. read more

1st time customer I came with a friend for dinner. Initially, was given a booth with worn out, crackly cushion and no chair-back for coats. I then asked for an actual table with chairs and was seated again. The entire staff are polite. I love diners cuz breakfast is served all-day. My friend ordered steak and eggs which included some salad and home fries on the same plate. Coffee to drink. Took half of it to go. I ordered spaghetti carbonara to settle my craving for bacon, cheese and something creamy in mouth-feel. Some sliced mushrooms and micro greens added nutrition and texture to the pasta. A Sauvignon Blanc for a beverage. I'd like to return for dessert and coffee. read more

WHEN: Thur @7:30pm Decided to try somewhere simple in the area, so we made not too far of a trek from the NY Public Library for dinner. We lucked out with a booth seating immediately with no reservations since the concerts nearby had not ended yet. But be careful, the space between the table and the booth is quite narrow! Between my partner and I, we shared: SYMPHONY BREAKFAST - $26.95 Served with the following: + Rustic Toasted Bread - Never came, but I got salad instead for some reason. Maybe it was better (healthier) this way. + 3 Organic Eggs (scrambled) - No complaints! + Hash brown Potatoes - Mushy, Soggy and lots of it, and I wish it were crispy. + Fresh Fruit - a few grapes, cantaloup and honeydew. + Choice of breakfast protein: Applewood Smoke Bacon - + Coffee or OJ - I chose OJ since it was dinner time. KALE CHICKEN CESAR - $21.95 Pretty decent, can't complain! We finished everything with no leftovers, which is pretty unusual. So I guess the food was overall pretty good! It's a convenient spot that opens late, and many options to eat, and quite family/large-group friendly! read more

Several years ago, I wrote a blog entry called, "The Ten Commandments of Diners". To paraphrase, it was a list of all things diners must do and do well in order to properly be called a diner. This diner follows through on most of these principles, and considering the fact this diner is literally on the edge of Hell, um, I mean, Central Park, it follows through on them very well indeed. You walk in, you order, your food arrives before you even have time to settle in, you eat, your plate is taken away once they notice you have have nothing left on it, you pay, and then your subway awaits you outside. Literally. The 57th Street-7th Ave station is just outside this diner. The quintessential diner should have an extensive burger listing and an all day breakfast menu. I had to go with the burger after much to and fro between breakfast and a burger. The Times Square Burger called my name. It is a cheeseburger meets a spicy chicken sandwich. The burger is served with fries, coleslaw, a pickle, and a side salad. Not a bad deal, considering it all cost $26 (before tip). When my food arrived, I was pleased to see the plate is fully covered. The burger is outstanding. Tons of flavor, it has real depth and the juices just roll down your arm. The burger is well seasoned and so is the chicken, which also has a little kick, but not super spicy. Unfortunately, the coleslaw has a weird taste and a vinaigrette based salad only works so well. For those of you who have been following my reviews, you will know I do not eat fries much outside the US these days, so I only ate three before quitting. The fries were not good anyway. All in all for a good burger, it works fine. The restaurant is going to also attract a lot of tourists given its location, so either pass on going here or learn to accept it, if that is going to bother you. After all that, you can go to Hell, um, sorry, I mean, Central Park, and walk off what you just ate. read more

Amazing classic diner. The Carnegie classic burger was absolutely delicious and our table was still thinking about it for the whole week. Sadly Brussel sprouts were a disappointment, definitely needed to be cooked longer. I was impressed by how many vegetarian options they had too. We waited ~15 minutes and I would generally be prepared to wait a bit. Wish they had a jukebox. Their large chocolate cake is really a marvel to behold. read more

Cutest ambiance! Especially at Christmas time! It is very tiny and can get crowded at the entrance, so make sure to make room for people entering and exiting. The food was very flavorful and I wish we would have had time to try dessert because it looked stunning. I had a burger with their chipotle sauce and it was perfectly cooked and saucy. Fries were also crispy and well seasoned. It was extremely busy when we went, but our food took about 25 minutes to get to us. This was my only worry/complaint since we had limited time. read more

I've never been disappointed here! The 24-layer chocolate cake is phenomenal, and a great deal considering a good 2-3 layer slice of cake is $12 anywhere else, and this huge slice is $15. I am back 3 days after my first visit to have the exact same late night food!! It was so delicious!!! I enjoyed a HUGE BEAUTIFUL BOWL of HOMEMADE CHICKEN SOUP with carrots, orzo, and zucchini, cooked beautifully. I'm usually not a zucchini fan, but cooked in this soup, it was enjoyable. The soup is served with a fresh, delicious lightly toasted slice of sourdough bread. I am not kidding, I thought about that bread for the last 3 days LOL !!! The entire meal was great. I also enjoyed a corn muffin and a nice, large cup of Harney's Egyptian chamomile tea with honey on the side. This was everything I ordered on my first visit and that's what I had on my visit tonight. That first visit, I knew I had to come back to try their huge sandwiches, because the people at the next table had ordered sandwiches and they looked great and came with french fries and a small salad all on one single huge plate. I notice that I am using the word "huge" a lot and that's because everything is huge. The plates are huge. The portions are huge. The prices are not huge. They are beautifully, friendly and quite reasonable. Win-win!!! :) There is a very large menu, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and late night food ...it's all served here. Located at the corner of Seventh Avenue and West 57th Street. The Carnegie diner is diagonally across the street from the world-famous Carnegie Hall. When a concert lets out at Carnegie Hall, you'll see a lot of people head over to the Carnegie diner. So if you're planning to have a late night snack or mini meal plan accordingly so you can arrive before the huge crowd that will visit The Carnegie Diner. About that outrageously delicious slice of sourdough bread and my corn muffin. Joey, the host/manager told me that they also have a bakery downtown and that's where the bread and baked goods are from. No wonder everything was so delicious. Another important matter at any restaurant is the service; and the service here, at the Carnegie diner is excellent. Every staff member working here really cares about the job they do and it shows!! And, they look you in the eye and they smile or say hello and they check to see that everything is OK at your table. It's the kind of service you wish to get at any great dining establishment, and you do get that here. I definitely recommend the Carnegie diner and I look forward to updating this review once I can visit and enjoy a huge sandwich. I'll update as I work my way through the menu. LOL. REALLY, I shall. And the Carnegie diner has long hours from early morning till late at night. Enjoy!! BREAKFAST*LUNCH*BRUNCH*DINNER*LATE NIGHT SNACKS OR MEALS* DESSERTS Enjoy yourself here! read more

We went for lunch for the pastrami. I made a reservation, but I don't think they even look at them. It was busy, but they got us seated after 5-10 minutes. The service was good, and everything we got was delicious. The pastrami was sooooo good! We also got a side of fries with feta, and mashed potatoes, which came with big fresh chunks of feta and balsamic glaze. I'd never seen that before but it's such a great idea I did it at home. It's a diner experience, so busy and normal noisiness. Service was friendly and efficient. I'd definitely go back. read more

AVOID....AVOID....AVOID!!!!! I would provide zero stars if I could, and I will never ever return to this place. We had reservations and were made to wait in a long lines in order to get seated even with a reservation. However, friends of the hostess walked up right in front of us, and he seated them immediately in front of everyone else. Once we were seated, it was incredible how rude the staff was. They wanted us out of that seat as soon as they put us in it! We were eating our hashbrowns and kid you not... He literally took them off the table when we mid-bite with them to our mouth. You get one cup of coffee and you better drink that cup of coffee within the first three minutes of it being on the table or they will take it and they will not replace it. Refills are not permitted and/or highly discouraged. This is not a place where you swallow your food after it's put on your table. This is a place where you grab and go or you get kicked in the butt on the way out the door. It sounds like we were trying dawdle at a table while they had a huge queue and I'm telling you we were not we literally were not allowed to eat our food once it was put on the table. We spent longer in line than we did sitting at the table. I never in my whole life has paid for a meal and been treated the way I was when I went here read more

We came here around brunch time on a Saturday. Super busy, we waited about 30 minutes to be sat. The service was very quick in a good and bad way. The food came out not even 10 minutes after we had ordered it! But at the same time, they are definitely rushing for you to leave. They even grabbed my plate of food before I was done eating. I understand there are folks waiting to be sat, but they should not be essentially shoving people out of the door before they're ready. The prices are also high. For these prices I'd like to take my time and enjoy the company. The restaurant is loud but that's to be expected with so many people. The booths also have the table pushed as close as it can possibly be to you. The food was great but I likely wouldn't come again because of the service and the rushing. Editing my review just a few minutes later changing it from 3 starts to 1. I took 5 minutes after we paid the bill to write this up and in those 5 minutes a man came and stared at us 4 times and then kept asking if we were okay trying to get us to leave. We spent more time waiting to be sat (with a reservation) than we did sitting at the table. So disrespectful. This is not how you treat customers who just spent $100+ at your establishment. read more

Never been here before despite living in nyc for all my life. Decided to stop by because they had a happy hour for $6~ margarita. The drinks were strong and they have three different flavors. I chose the pineapple and it was delish. We also tried the fish and chips-- crispy and flakey. The fish needs a bit more seasoning. But overall it was good. The fries were plentiful and cooked well. Across the street from Carnegie Hall, Carnegie is a solid workhouse of a diner. We've probably eaten here maybe a half dozen times now. The last two times were for breakfast. We got there before 9:00am on a weekday and did not have to wait for a table, but when we finished, there was a long line waiting to be seated. The atmosphere here is comfortable and non-pretentious. Service is consistently good. The food is good, and this may be a plus for many of you, is sometimes undersalted. They never put enough salt on their hash browns, which are fine otherwise: crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The omelets and Eggs Benedicts automatically come with hash browns and greens upon which a tasty balsamic vinegar has been dashed. You can build your own omelet for a couple bucks extra. The petite eggs benedict and their omelets are A-OK. The avocado toast with poached eggs, while maybe not the most beautiful presentation, is still very good. It also comes with greens. Along with my omelet and/or Eggs Benedict plate, I always order a toasted sesame bagel with cream cheese. While maybe not in the same league as, say, a Bleeker St. Deli bagel, it was perfectly decent with lots of cream cheese. read more

Popped in here because the concierge at my hotel recommended it. It appears to be a standard diner with plenty of traffic (which normally indicates good good). The cafe/diner had you typical Hollywood photos on the wall. Even with the crowds (we ate around 3 pm), we were seated pretty quickly - all the way to the back, but it was warm and we were seated. Now, the waitress was utterly unimpressive. We had asked for water and were told "someone will bring it". The third time I requested it, it was the manager that sent it. The waitress was pretty invisible except to bring out food, and she actually only brought part of it. When it came time to pay, and a tip was being left - not a generous one, due to horrible service...she actually demanded, DEMANDED that she get 18% minimum!! I none too gently educated her that tips were ALWAYS OPTIONAL, and based on service. The food was good, and worthy of New York prices, and the manager that I spoke with was absolutely lovely. He was very apologetic regarding the service, and gave me a free muffin (which was delicious). The ONLY reason I gave 5, instead of the 4 stars, is because Stanislaus (the manager) was so, so very gracious! I would ear there again for sure. You know..."one bad apple". read more
