I will say, my first experience with CarMax was a bit less than stellar. I went in with an appointment to get my truck appraised. It was a Sunday and the place was MOBBED. I waited for 10 minutes in line at the counter to even check in, then another 15 minutes while they tried to find my guy. They finally found someone else and he said it would be a 1 hour wait to get the truck appraised. I decided just to leave and go shop the car lots here in San Juan. The salesman, very sincerely, looked me in the eye and said "PLEASE come back tomorrow? This is just really stupid crazy busy. We're not usually like this." It was so sincere, I remembered it. I did go shop the lots in San Juan for almost 2 hours, and no one was interested in me. I wanted an inexpensive car. I'm at that phase in my life now that I don't want payments. I just want a cute little car to drive around town when I'm not out traveling in my new RV. (the reason I don't want car payments!) The salesmen who would talk to me were pushy and condescending, and couldn't get rid of me fast enough. "We don't have anything in that ($10,000-$15000) range.
Discouraged at the local lots, I decided to give CarMax another try (also upon my besty's insistence; she has had great experience with CarMax). I walked in and straight up to Diego, who immediately asked "Can I help you find your car?" From there it was like picking out a new pair of shoes. Diego asked what I wanted, and LISTENED! I didn't know exactly what I wanted, just an inexpensive hatch back, small enough to fit into my tiny garage. He pulled up all the options on the computer, but was quite certain this "Spark" was the one. He said "this one is calling to me for you." He insisted we look at the others, though. We went out to the lot, and right up to the little blue Spark. The clouds parted, the angels sang. It was the least expensive of all the options, and it was perfect. I didn't want to look at any others. We took it for a drive, I fell in love, we went back into the office where they had appraised my truck at $4000 more than blue book value. Diego stayed with me through the whole process. The signing process was short and easy; unfortunately I forget the agent's name... Diane maybe? She was professional, warm and friendly. I paid $400 and left CarMax with my darling little 2013 blue Spark, truck traded in, loan paid off, no payments and a nice warranty. Can't recommend them highly enough. If I ever buy another car... I won't go anywhere else. read more
