The dealership option had more miles than I'd like so I went to CarMax first. My CarMax option was at the car lot in Duarte, but they shipped it to my nearby Irvine location at no fee so that I could look it over and test drive it. I met Byron at an appointed time, test drove it, asked a bunch of questions, and inspected it thoroughly. I liked it even better in person than what I saw online and made the purchase. CarMax Irvine was a useful place to see and try different makes and models of cars. However, they will NEVER see a dime from me or anyone I can spread the word to because of the rude and sexist sales person we dealt with the first time we went in. We had an appointment to browse, and were assigned to Mahanth Kommireddy. When he came up to us, he shook my hand, introduced himself to me, AND THEN COMPLETELY IGNORED MY WIFE. We almost walked out right there, but wanted to test drive a car so we bit our tongues. Even once we went to his desk, he still did not acknowledge her at all. If this is how he treats wives of potential customers, I'm sure this isn't the first and won't be the last time he cost you business. Came into Irvine for an offer with JT and sold a week later with Erica. One of the highest offers and truly an easy experience. Equity draft handed over same day and doc signing took maybe 15 minutes. Roughly 45 min was waiting. Was bittersweet selling my beloved M340 to Carmax but I hope it finds an amazing home and thanks to Erica for helping me take a farewell photo. They're a big company and I thought they would nickel and dime me to death. Turns out they offered me $3500 MORE than I expected. I couldn't believe it. The paperwork took awhile, but we were dealing deceased car owners, death certificates, trustees, etc. so that's to be expected. They don't treat walk-ins well, if you're a walk-in like I was they will limit you to TWO test drives on your visit even if you're actually looking to buy a car. The front desk is incredibly unhelpful and only exist to shoo walk-ins away. Our salesperson Mahanth was incredibly unprofessional, and being young doesn't excuse it. Extremely rude, ignored my wife and only tried to talk to me when it was going to be her car. I don't normally leave reviews but this place definitely tries to skate on by and do the bare minimum to sell you an overpriced used car. My first purchase occurred four years ago, and I am still driving and enjoying that car. When my girlfriend needed a replacement car for her damaged Lexus, CarMax was the immediate choice. CarMax employs low pressure sales pros who do a skillful job of explaining, showing, demonstrating, and of course, selling quality used cars. Today we compared a Lexus UX to a Lexus ES and my girlfriend made her choice. We were able to drive and compare the automobiles at our own pace, and with zero sales pressure. When my girlfriend made the choice, and financing was needed to complete the deal, another non pressured offer was presented for consideration. All in all, from start to finish, the day was fruitful, and resulted in the purchase of a fine small car that will serve our transportation needs for the foreseeable future. The experience was quite pleasant and devoid of the tricks, games, and shenanigans we always have experienced at new car dealerships. Our sales representative was ELIJAH. We returned a week later to obtain new tires for this newly purchased car, and were treated well by the service advisor named Jose. The tires were installed and the car runs more smoothly. Just bought my second car from this location. Fair warning, CHECK THE CAR IN THE DAYLIGHT!! The pictures showed one blemish, there were over 10 pings and dents they could have shown. I asked if it had been in any accidents and they said there was a claim filed on the insurance, but there was no frame damage. The repair was apparent the next day in the light....... The drivers side door was obviously repaired and kind of a so-so job at best (you can see the waves in the door). Of course this was NOT shown in the initial pictures. The car drives great and is only for my A to B driving needs and is lower miles than the others I could afford, so I kept it. I would still shop here, but if you're buying for looks, inspect thoroughly in the daytime. They could be a little more straight forward and just say it was repaired. read more

We stopped by Carmax to look at their SUVs from LandRover to Jeep. The place was packed and looked like the DMV. I asked Emily, the staff member who checked us in, if they were giving something away. She laughed and said there was a wait to speak to a salesperson. That is unusual at a car dealership, but they were booming. We gave Emily our name and phone number and walked the lot. There wasn't anything spectacular about their pricing as it was in alignment with Edmonds, Bluebook, and industry market pricing, but the place was very popular. Their vehicle inventory is very clean, vast in selection, and plentiful. We saw quite a few vehicles we would have taken for a test drive and maybe even sat down to talk numbers, but the wait was just too much. We decided to go elsewhere and then to lunch. Make sure you use car fax here. They use another company similar to CARFAX but they do not record to the level of carfax does. Typical shady business practices like saying a car was never smoked in, or doesn't have any issues but it's apparent that it does on an extended test drive. I Was going to get a "beater" for my kids first car here and their car history check showed everything was spotless but when I ran it my self the car had been in a bad front end collision. I asked them about it and mention the alignment was a little wonky. After showing them the evidence of a bad crash they were not willing to budge on the price (I was not going to purchase just wanted to see how shady they were). We test drove 4 cars. 2 had non matching records to carfax. Two were smoked in and it was very apparent during the test drive despite them telling us non of them had. I was looking at a certain price range and understand that I was not going to get something fancy but hiding operational and other issues is bad business. Out of the 4 cars, two were smoked in (they said they weren't), two had reported crashes that their check didn't see and both of the previously crashed cars had alignment issues when driving down a flat straight street they would pull pretty hard to the left or right. One of the cars had a lot of abnormal valvetrain noise at mid to higher rpm which also indicates mechanical issues. read more

I know some people had a bad experience, but my over all experience was great. We came in a Saturday afternoon to get our car appraised and got helped right away and didn't wait for too long; in and out within 45 mins and got the appraisal that was validate for 7 days if you decided selling your car. We came back to sell our car and the process was quick and easy. Make sure to bring your pink slip, ID and the appraisal slip when you come back and the process was fast, only took us about 30 mins. They gave us a good price for our car too which I was shocked although my car was in good condition but they didn't low ball us too much. Good thing is none of them were pushy to convince us to sell or buy any car here. Sold our car to CarMax. We simply threw our VIN on some sites and CarMax happened to offer the most. They were also located nearby, so that didn't hurt. Fill out all the info and requests online and then came in with the quote. I was expecting the process to go faster, but it did take around 30-40 minutes. I assume they were gathering the paperwork or something - I don't know, we sat around the lobby for over half an hour watching football while waiting. Overall, the process was pretty smooth and we had the check in hand after the process was complete. After you sell your car, you can stalk it on the website, which is kinda cool. Our car sold within a week of us selling it, guess it was more popular than we thought it'd be. They also made the same amount of money as us for selling it so.... If you're looking for a place to just get rid of your car without hassle, CarMax was good. read more

Great car selling experience. Terrible car buying experience. They sold me a Jeep Grand Cherokee that needed to replace two batteries, AC and stereo that I didn't know about. I bought it on Tuesday, the next day after purchasing the car, I noticed many things that were wrong with it. I wanted to bring it in right away but they said they were busy till Monday. I called my sales guy Alex and he assured me that while the car is in the service, it won't affect 10 days money back guarantee time period. When I dropped it off Monday, they told me that their system is down and they don't know how long it will take to fix it. Luckily they called me the next day and ordered the parts and they took care of everything. Thank you Jose! When I found out about their extended warranty, I called the sales manager Chris to see if I can purchase. He told me that today (Thursday) is the last day to return the car and repurchase the car in order to purchase extended warranty! I told him that Alex the sales guy not only didn't tell me about the warranty for purchase, he said while the car is in the shop, it doesn't count towards 10 day warranty. Chris said that's not true and I have a day to return the car after sitting there for 4 days. Their warranty doesn't mean anything if you don't return the car within 10 days even though they lied about 125 inspections have been completed. Clearly they don't stand by what they sell as long as they make a sale. I could have bought my Jeep any dealership in OC but decided to purchase from Carmax because of their good reputation and my previous experience selling. I feel that I've been taking advantage of and I'm really sad to see company like Carmax only cares about sales and not a customer. read more
