Food is generic at best. Who knows what's fresh and what's frozen. The tiki bar is just ok. It's amazing if you smoke and enjoy smoke in your face while trying to eat. I for one think that's disgusting. I understand it's outdoors but it's still a restaurant. There needs to be some boundaries. Food is really hit or miss outside. Again, who knows what's fresh and what's not. It's more of w bar. Bar food and such. Don't have any high expectations. Especially if inhaling second hand smoke while trying to choke down an over cooked burger isn't your idea of a good time. Oh and if you have to use the restroom while at the tiki bar don't. First time back here in several years. We rode with our group and ate lunch at the Tiki Bar. Food was very good and service was excellent. They had a solo guitarist playing. Their seafood is fresh and reasonably priced. Service is very good. Very relaxing to sit back and watch the boats go by. They also have a crew available if you dock your boat there to eat. We also had the little neck steamers, a little larger than we expected but they were also good. M had the fish tacos, 2 small tacos with a piece of fried fish, lots of lettuce. Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon was a perfect medium. 3 of us had it. Sautéed Chicken and Shrimp Teryaki was good. 1 of us had that. 1 Cheese Burger cooked to perfection. 1 Chicken Franchaise was great. 1 grilled salmon and 1 soft shell crabs. Both were awesome as well. The only complaint we had was the bartender making drinks at the bar for us while we were waiting to be seated was quite rude. Drink orders were not correct. This is such an amazing place restaurant to eat and enjoy a wonderful meal. It's much bigger than I thought. They have a huge room for parties, 2 bars and plenty of seating. Our waitress Nicole was so bubbly and sweet. She made our lunch very welcoming. I ordered chicken franchaise and it was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes are to die for. Took my mom there tonight for her 70th birthday and was so disappointed. We've had the she crab soup before and thought it was delicious thick and full of crab. Tonight it was watery and very little crab. While most people in our party enjoyed their meals. My husband and I ordered crab stuffed lobster tail, it came out completely over cooked. They redid it and it looked perfectly cooked and delicious. We couldn't wait to dig in....well the second one had absolutely NO flavor! So incredibly disappointed in a restaurant we normally enjoy. I can't say that I will be willing to try it again though. We aren't local (from Virginia), so we may have to find another seafood restaurant when we come to visit my mom. read more

Attended an afternoon party of about 35 people. Food was above average for such an event with a nice menu selection. Clam chowder was ok, but not hot. Rack of lamb was excellent, with a rack of 5 nice size ribs. Veggies were roasted red potatoes and a medley of shaved carrots and string beans, which I observed no one at the table cared for. I enjoyed a great meal on Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy - far more than I expected for a cold night in early spring. The lump crab cocktail was delicious, huge lumps of crab meat served in a martini glass. I could have eaten just this and been very satisfied. For my entree, I had the lobster stuffed with crabmeat and. enjoyed it very much. I finished with key lime pie- this one had a nice tartness to it and it was a great finish to an enjoyable meal. Attended a large, private party last night. Flawless! The setting is beautiful, right on the water. The room was lovely, plenty of space. When we left, we realized there was a live band playing in the bar--we could not hear it through the walls! The food was delicious: prime rib, crab-stuffed shrimp, and chicken all done to perfection. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food was served hot, the dishes were cleared quickly. There was another party going on at the same time but we couldn't tell. Not only did our party run smoothly but the management anticipated parking issues and had attendant's outside. They thought of everything. I would host a party here in a heartbeat. read more

I had really high expectations seeing mostly 4- and 5-star reviews for this place. Overall, it was a mixed plate for us. The service is friendly and attentive. The place smells amazing with all the seafood smell when you walk in. The regular dishes we ordered were very good. Unfortunately, the specials were meh. The she-crab soup was a lot different than the one we had at Poogan's Porch in Charleston. It was not bad, but just didn't taste anything similar to the one we had in SC. Our family loves Captain's Inn. The service is good and the seafood is really fresh and delicious. We have had many parties there and have never been disappointed. The servers are friendly and they know the menu. We always really enjoy the freshly baked rolls before dinner and cheese and crackers is a trademark of the restaurant. I don't know how they started putting cheese and crackers on each table but it's something we have come to enjoy. If you're in the area, Captain's Inn is a great place for lunch or dinner. If you're not in the area, Captain's Inn is worth the trip. Only reason I left off one star is that the service is slow when they are very busy. But they do say that because each entree is made fresh it takes a little extra time to prepare. They have delicious deserts and really excellent birthday cake. Let them know when you make your reservation if you're having a bday party and they will tell you about the cake options. Dining here this evening! Two of us ordered the stuffed salmon. It was filled with blue crab and so fresh! My brother in law orered the porterhouse steak and it was tender and cooked to perfection! Mom ordered the captain's combo and loved it as well. Our waitress Morgan was excellent and offered exceptional service. She was also very warm and personable despite being extremely busy! Absolutely HORRIFIC for Thanksgiving dinner. Server was TERRIBLE... and I mean terrible. No water, had to ask for a water refill, had to ask for bread, had to ask for more bread, dirty dishes were in front of us, had to pick them up to give to a busser (which I had to call them over). Had to ask yet again if they could light up the candle for the table. Of course there was nothing in the candle fluid container, had to ask them to change it. Set menu (was not told to me when I made the reservation). Sat out in the tent, NOT good... just a terrible experience. Server came up and just about said hello (Lauren), needs to retrained. WOW you've been there for what 60 years? 2 hostesses and a busser and another was hovering round the hostess station just talking it up... no attention to customers. Inside in the main restaurant I've had 5 star meals I've had their crab cakes, SeaBass Rockefeller, Grouper with Crab Hash, Crab Mac & Cheese, SheCrab Soup, Crab AuGratin (notice a pattern yet?), their steaks look perfect, I'm just too tempted by their seafood dishes. Portions are huge & presentation is gorgeous! Service has been fantastic! Attentive & friendly. The kitchen also kindly accommodated a few changes/requests. This is our go to spot for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. But I see many complaints about the bar food at the outdoor Tiki. I can only comment on what I've had & it was fantastic! I get it every time & haven't even bothered looking to try anything else. The crab cake panini! So it's not like a traditional panini & it's almost impossible to eat as a sandwich. But I literally crave it every few weeks & totally indulge! It's on a toasted focaccia roll - yum, topped with soft greens - enough that this is more like a salad, cherry tomatoes, red onions, kalamata olives (??? - I know, I thought kinda odd too!), a crab cake that is full of giant lumps of crab (barely any breading & it's huge), drizzled with their house balsamic vinaigrette dressing (I got it on the side the first time I ordered because ??? What - vinaigrette dressing??? Not tartar? -and the answer is OMG YES!) & crumbled blue cheese (???again, seriously??? No! Ahhh but turns out - another YES!!!). You can add a side of fries, but the sandwich (not a sandwich) is so huge, I'm full without any sides. So the rest of the menu may be blah "Bar food", but the Crab Cake Panini is awesome! We also always order the appetizer cheese & crackers. It's literally a full tub of the delish cheese you get in the main restaurant when you first sit down. The app comes with a plate full of crackers. It's so big , we just nibble a few while waiting on our Panini & put the lid back on the cheese, box the crackers & take it home. Next day snacks! Score! Prices on dinners in the main restaurant run $25-$35 & for the portion size, presentation & deliciousness...well worth the price. That Crab Cake Panini runs $16 & change & it's worth EVERY penny!!! And for those complaining about a high bill after noting they had a few drinks.... yeah, alcohol is expensive. If you have a few drinks, your bill is going to be on the high side. Don't like it, don't drink! So, basically, I've never had a bad experience & NEVER had a bad meal. Love The Captain's Inn! Can't wait to go back!!! read more
