First thing I noticed was they had a signed that said " If unable to afford a meal they would cover it for you" We ordered the penne vodka with a side Cesar salad (however they gave us a garden salad) still good bc those croutons were just amazing . I think homemade. The penny Baco is well homemade creamy. It does come with chunks of stuff so if you're not a fan of that, then I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are, then I would highly recommend it. You know it comes with the onion the basil, the tomato you know everything extremely good. Now ask for the burger I have a burger with the pastrami on it with the bacon very good however I'm not a fan of the melted cheese on it but that's a preference. The bun highly toasted good could come with some sauce on it so it was missing that and it could come with some condiments on the side. I love the steak fries , small portion, but good and the coleslaw is fresh and good and I believe all the dressing are freshly made in everything. read more

We had our first visit to CJ's yesterday and it will not be our last! We waited 10 minutes or so to be seated which I'm fine with as that's generally a sign of a good place. I wanted to go out for breakfast and didn't feel like driving to my normal spot. So I thought I would try CJ's for the first time. It was busy, which typically makes me feel like it's a good place. Unfortunately, after I was seated things kind of went downhill. I waited a long time before being welcomed. The waitress was friendly, but not super attentive. It's the first time I've been to a breakfast spot and had everything be a little overdone or burnt. The coffee was overdone, the toast was slightly burnt, the omelette was over hard, the pancakes had small bits of chard batter in them... The potatoes on the other hand were undercooked. It was a pretty mediocre experience. At the end of the meal, the busser was very quick in clearing the table, which was nice, but I had to go find my waitress to get my bill after waiting for what I felt was a more than reasonable amount of time. CJ's is the best breakfast around. The coffee is great, staff is friendly, and the food is outrageously good. One of the best omelettes I have ever had. The pancakes are fluffy & perfect. They serve fresh cups of butter and the cutest container of warm maple syrup. Not sure why anyone would go any where else. Everyone raves about grace and grits, in my opinion CJs is 100 times better. This was reviewed September 2020. You've got to give credit to someone that stands up to a bully, and that's exactly what the owner of the Lake Side Diner did. He was told that he could not have indoor dining during Covid but defied Adolph Murphy and has opened his indoor dining room despite getting fined several times. He didn't do this with reckless abandon mind you, he's following all the social distancing rules. Sanitizer on the counter, masks on all employees, and he even installed an elaborate air cleansing system. Four of us had a nice conversation with our congenial waitress about the whole situation and then ordered breakfast food. I got a fried egg sandwich with pork roll. Others got omelets and such. Everyone raved about their food, the service, and the guts it takes to defy this corrupt administration. read more

Recently my friend for another diner trip. Atmosphere: The Lake Side Diner is a cute shore diner. It's a little White House, and the inside is almost entirely wooden. It's got such a fun and unique vibe. Coffee: The coffee was good, but there was nothing to write home about. The waitress refilled it often, which was nice. Food: The Lake Side Diner has plenty of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options.  While it was around 11, I wasn't craving lunch yet. I was craving pancakes and eggs, so I ordered that and substituted the meat (bacon/sausage) for fruit. The meal was good, but it was kind of bland. It wasn't bad, but it felt like something I could whip up at home. Service: The waitress was friendly and refilled our beverages often. Plus our food came out quickly so I can't argue with that. Went to CJ and love their expanded menu. I had the breakfast sliders and they were great. A must try if you hungry for breakfast.

The food quality has improved since what used to be the Lakeside diner. Now CJ's has taken over. The new management has also done. A very good job brightening up and remodeling much of the dining area. I think it is absolutely appalling that this business remains open during the governors orders! Complete disregard for authority and just because they may get a few patrons that want to buck the system or are not afraid doesn't make it right! People like this are the reason that things will continue to stay the way they are and not allow other innocent businesses to open that have followed the guidelines.
