Classic Jersey diner with good food and this morning's waitress came from the school of toss the food at them, be short with them, and slam the bill on the table waitressing. And, no I am not awarding four stars for the service approach towards diners ... she did refill my coffee mug once and then surprisingly just took the creamers away without asking (I drink my coffee black but she didn't know that.). Clearly she has favorites because the guy in the booth next to me got the lovey-dovey "hon" treatment. The Sand Castle has a feeling of having been worn down by the waves through the years type of place because many of the booth chairs and counter chairs exhibit wear and even more than a few tears. On a cold November Saturday morning I could feel the chill as I sat in my booth sipping my coffee (And, I wasn't anywhere close to the front door.). So onto the four stars ... but don't say I didn't warn you about service and ambiance. Well, it feels like a shore diner and I like that feel but yea worn out a bit. Quite awhile ago stopped by for dinner and the food was really good with lots of tempting options. I always judge diners by their soup and the soup was top notch! Our meals were enjoyable at a reasonable price. And, then I just forgot to review the diner. But decided to return for breakfast today after a long Friday night. Coffee arrived promptly and was really decent coffee but the amazing part of my breakfast was how quickly the really wall prepared omelette was served. It was like in the blink of any eye and for many a promptly delivered breakfast meal is a real plus (I appreciated it!!!!). Although the waitress really didn't want to be bothered with me the rather short diner breakfast menu had the classics and that quickly prepared omelette was a tasty WESTERN. The homefries were really good ... actually they were great even without onions in them (Waitress never asked if I'd like onions and rushed away so I didn't ask but these potatoes didn't need onions.). Toast was toast and the jam/jelly selection was universally grape jelly with one orange marmalade. A very good breakfast and I wasn't here to make friends just to warm up ooops ok, so I didn't warm up but the coffee helped, and to do some work. Menu is a little small for breakfast selection, but it has all the classics. Between the two of us, we ordered a Western omelet, chocolate chip pancakes, and two eggs over easy with sausage, bacon, and home fries. My family and I went to The Sandcastle diner for food. We go there pretty often. Today a guy was coughing and got food stuck in his throat, a patron got up and went to help him. The patrons wife called 911. My dad's girlfriend asked my waitress to get the manager, because they needed to know that the police were coming. When the police finally got there, the man was still in the bathroom. There was a lot of commotion, people going in and out. I'd say 6 emts/ paramedics. They wheeled a stretcher back there . That's when who I believe was the manager looked at the table with the choking guys things on it (phone, newspaper) and screamed from across the room "you gonna clear that off. Can I seat that or what?" With an attitude. The waitress was like "well his stuff is still there." And the manager gave her a dirty look. She then said "I guess so," started to clear the things. The manager started to walk up to the table and so I said "you're really gonna clear that table? The man is still in the bathroom?". My dad chimed in and noted how he owed the waitress an apology and I said "that man's health is less important than seating a table?" And the owners son said I HAVE A BUSINESS TO RUN. I'll admit once he said that my table did get loud and I shouldn't have used profanity, but one of the waitresses made a point to say the man is fine he's alive. THE MAN IS FINE, HES ALIVE. I don't know about any of you but I would consider not necessarily just a customers health but a mans health is more important than a single table. So to the man who said you have a business to run, if you're reading this. I hope you can take your customers health and safety into more consideration in the future if this happens again! read more

I'm being polite by giving this place 3 stars. I met my ex here for late breakfast. It definitely has a classic New Jersey diner feel for sure, but I was very unimpressed by everything. My ex had bacon and eggs and a diet Pepsi. I had a pork roll omelette with cheese. The cheese is extra. My home fries were a little dry and tasteless, but the texture was good. Her bacon was cooked as it should be. The coffee wasn't great for New Jersey diner coffee and there was nothing special about the white toast. My wife said her rye toast was OK, but they let us sit there as long as we liked all the way in the back. One small thing was that no spoon was offered for my coffee. I had to get up and get it myself. They might consider rolling a spoon in with the other utensils. The worst part of the experience was two flies would not leave us alone the entire time we tried to eat, which is weird for sitting inside. I will say I saw several people eating burgers and supposedly they're outstanding so I will definitely go back to try a burger! read more

Completely solid breakfast this morning at the Sand Castle Diner. Our server was wonderful and the coffee kept on coming. Also, the overall price points on their menu are SO much more reasonably priced than anyplace I live near in Maine. I ordered a western omelette which came with home fries, toast AND a bottomless cup of coffee for $12.99. Let that sink in. Where I live, a cup of coffee, on its own, can run up to $5 at local breakfast spots. I've only been to Sand Castle for breakfast, but noticed some of the lunch orders coming out around me and they looked fantastic as well. read more

My first visit there was about 1968. I was passing by and decided to try it. It was the Beachwood Diner then and I lived in Little Egg Harbor. NEVER a bad meal. They use the best foods, no cheap stuff. When I came to Beachwood I met the Schmidts (owners). Walt was awesome. I remember August in 1969 (I think) before I came to Beachwood. It was ablaze. It was just slightly remodeled again this month (January 2026). This is probably the best diner in NJ. read more

Loveeeee this diner. Came from Tom's River passing like 10 diners along the way but the reviews were so tempting I had to try. Totally worth it. The place is jumpin like diners all once were. The entire staff from start to finish were all fast paced and pleasant. We had mozzarella sticks, French onion soup, turkey dinner, chicken Marsala, and a breakfast sandwich. The only part of my experience was we were leaving for vacation the next morning so I couldn't take home my leftovers and the portions were so great I could have made another 2 meals out of them. Horrible place! Tired to go last night. Got there at 7:55, online hours say they close at 8:30. The door says they close at 9:00. They shut the lights off as we were walking up the steps. They looked right at us. Stuck our heads in and some extremely dumb looking basically bald man said they were closing in 5 minutes. We drove there specifically because they closed at 8:30 and other places closed earlier. This is an ignorant owner and staff. The owner of the place (the young one) is very friendly and warm at the entrance and everyone's service is efficient, fast and pleasant. The food was on a high standard compared to other diners. The food here is amazing! My mom and I came after a long roadtrip from Massachusetts. We went on a Friday night at 6:30 and didn't have to wait for a table. We got the zucchini fries as an appetizer which were incredible. As a meal I got the turkey dinner which comes with a salad or soup as an appetizer. The meal comes with stuffing, potatoes and a vegetable. A great deal for the price. My mom got fried flounder which was also delicious.
