Charming little place in a strip mall of Route 70. Looking for a quick stop and a bite to eat we by chance stumble in here this morning for breakfast. Small little place with what appears to be mostly locals. One man band behind the grill and one very nice server handled our table. Some specials on the board as well as a very large diverse menu. Not sure I'd venture into some of their mor elaborate options, but we did hit on breakfast. I kept it simple with a board special of 2 by 2 by 2. Pancakes, eggs and bacon. It came ala carte which was fine, since the pancakes were huge. Eggs were cooked perfectly, bacon good and the pancakes were massive and delicious. The other breakfast was a massive Ham & Cheese omelet with home fried potatoes, and rye toast. Again, absolutely massive plate and excellent. Coffee was hot & fresh and the staff could not have been nicer. Not the most inexpensive place to eat and there is a 4% surcharge for credit cards, but this far surpasses many of the standard cookie cutter diners we have been in. Excellent! read more

A cute little place in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Only CASH which is fine because the prices are reasonable. The food is good... fresh with good ingredients. The ONLY problem here is the staff. On their phones, talking and distracted by anything but the customers. The 2 waitresses were talking when we arrived and didn't even acknowledge our arrival or have the tables cleaned. After we came in many more people came in and suddenly, there was a scramble to clean the tables. During the frenzy to get everyone sat, someone's order was thrown away. The waitress scolded the bus girl in front of everyone in the place when it was actually the other waitress who took the food and threw it away. I don't like witnessing these sort of displays so I'm not sure if we will return. read more

Coming here for many years. The omelets have always been super. Yesterday not so good. I could hardly find any cheddar cheese in the omelet. When I went to add the ketchup, it sprayed out all over my hand, obviously watered down. They have replaced the better quality of jelly packets for a lower quality product too. Many years ago we stopped ordering the coffee because that was watered down, it looked like tea. We really like the staff and omelets were great. Maybe the owners will wake up before the loose all their business. read more

No doubt the 1950's and 60's we're the heyday of American diner culture. That is why so many that survived to present day decorate the premises with the icons and visuals of that time. It can be a bit too cutecie with Elvis, James Dean and Marilyn on every wall, but it does appeal to those alive at the time. For those of us who don't remember (or no longer can) it is an historic marker, otherwise harmless, worth acknowledging. JB's Cousin's Diner on RT. 70, Tom's River, NJ, is representative of this corner of restaurant world. It not only has a full sized statue of Ms. Monroe from the sidewalk subway grate scene in Seven Year Itch, standing on the counter, but it also has paisley formica covering the L-shaped lunch counter top to bottom. The entire dining room feels like a time capsule. I liked it in a dusty old comic book sort of way. And, they know about breakfast. My Farmer's Omelet was a full three egger, loaded with pepper, onion, Italian sweet, potato and feta. The side of home fries nicely crisped. The Bunn drip coffee, hot, kicky and free flowing. Old fashioned rye toast richly buttered. Service friendly and engaging with smile and chatter. Totally enjoyed it, and would have been moved to 5 stars if it offered credit card payment, rather than cash only. Customer convenience has to account for something. read more

Found this restaurant on yelp had pretty good ratings so we decided to try it. We went for three different soup and half sandwich orders. We tried the broccoli soup and the chicken orzo soup. Both were homemade and delicious. We tried a Reuben. It was one slice of bread, lots of corn beef Cheese and was delicious. We tried tuna on rye toast. There was enough tuna there for a whole sandwich. White albacore, tuna,. We tried to chicken cutlet sandwich. Once again that was delicious. The half a sandwich came with a nice size order of french fries too. iced tea was homemade nice and strong and delicious, overall we love the place and we will definitely go back the portions, low prices, and the service was extremely friendly and caring read more

Everything is delicious from breakfast to burgers to hot meals. The atmosphere is warm, not just the staff but the other customers... all very welcoming. They even offer fresh baked cookies and pastries that are always a surprise and out of this world. So thankful they stayed open for take out during this challenging time. read more

This place has gone downhill. I don't know if they hired a new cook, but it's gotten bad. Ordered an omelet, it was so dry and overcooked that it was brown but very hot. Paired well with the home fries that were ice cold. Always the smell of burning toast to add to the ambience. Waitress Cheryl is in outer space. The cook puts an order in the window, mine, and she sees it. She then takes 2 phone orders, makes coffee and waits on someone while my food is sitting in the window. Just serve the food and then do the other things. Their soups are homemade and very good but you're lucky if it's hot. Have to send it back to be heated most of the time. This was a great little diner, but in the past few months it sucks. read more

This is a five star diner located in a one star strip mall on route 70. I actually passed it because I thought it was In the next plaza. Anyway, i had an egg white omelette with peppers onion cheese and a side of turkey bacon and it was cooked to order and tasted great. The clientele is mostly an older crowd, which to be honest is a relief when you just want to eat your breakfast/lunch in peace. Would like to see this place invest some money in a new venue, as long as they don't get rid of the Elvis Shrines! read more

Hole in the wall places never seem to disappoint and this place is no different! I am a fan of diners and I'm always down to try new ones. When I moved to Toms River this was one of the first diners I visited as it's really close to my house. The place is small and can get crowded (especially Sunday mornings), but the wait is never unreasonable even at its busiest times. The staff is friendly and we have always over tipped out waitresses as they really do go above and beyond to make their customers happy. The food quality is excellent and with 5 of us all ordering different things, the food always came out at the same time and all hot. We have never had any issues which would require us to send something back in all the times we have gone. The prices are in line with any other diner. In summary, this diner is small and looks like it's been the same decor for quite some time, but the food, service and prices make it well worth the trip for breakfast or lunch. read more

Worst service I ever had at a diner. Just left and made sure the waitress got a tip of maybe .01cents....a real pos. Says to me without giving me a menu "what do you want?" No juice was served with the meal (included) and never came back to ask how things were. I think she knew I was going to berate her in front of the entire restaurant. I've been eating breakfast and lunch here for a few months now, and this is now my go-to place for diner food. Things I enjoy: The FOOD. I've tried many items from the menu, and everything I've had has been tasty. Turkey clubs, NY-style chicken sandwiches (I forget the exact name), various omelets; they've all been excellent. Of real note are the burgers. I'm very finicky when it comes to having burgers, but I love them here. My favorite is the swiss cheeseburger. The meat is nice and juicy, and doesn't seem to have been frozen. What I really appreciate is getting my burger cooked just how I order it. Sometimes that is hit-and-miss at other places, but not here. Also, I was really impressed with the quality of the french fries; they have a fresh, potatoey taste without too much oil ruining anything. Maybe my least-liked menu item was the meatloaf sandwich. It's served with gravy and it was fine, but didn't knock my socks off like a lot of the other foods did. The eating areas have always been clean for me, and the wait staff is attentive and friendly. Food is served in a very timely fashion. Prices are VERY reasonable, especially when considering the amount of food given. My female companions always end up taking some of their plate home for later. Things I'm not interested in: The decor is 50's, with lots of pictures of Elvis, James Dean, Marylin Monroe, etc. around, along with oldies playing in the background. I'm not offended by any of that; it's simply not my thing. Apparently they have some sort of classic car show on the weekends, so if you're in to that check it out. All I know is that cars usually have four wheels. Things I don't like: The location is in a small strip mall, and there's not a ton of parking. Due to the surrounding area's age-restricted residences, there's usually a lot of geezers clogging up the tables. They close at 4 PM, so go elsewhere for dinner. Get over the fact that they play 50's and 60's pop hits, and you find yourself at the best spot for breakfast and lunch in the area. Prices are very reasonable. The food is always plenty, and cooked the way you like it. I only gave it 4 stars because of its location, it's at the end of a run down strip mall next to a gas station. The parent diner JB's diner in Freehold has a better location, and the 50's vibe works better there. This is a great little diner. I especially like to go for breakfast. Everything is served fresh and hot. They are also one of the few places around that serve grits. One of the few foods I don't like but I know several people who love them. They go specifically so they can have grits with their breakfast and say they are delicious here. Modest prices for the area, I think because they don't take credit cards. I believe they have an ATM. It is an old school diner (even though it's in a little strip mall) and I love it. Oh, and ask for "deep fried home fries" (not on the menu). You can get them in lieu of home fries or french fries. They are crispy little hunks of potato deliciousness. read more

My partner and I have eaten here a few times because the food is really fresh and superior to that in most of the diners in the area. It is very clean and the waitstaff is very friendly without being condescending (no "still workin' on it?") We are never disappointed and always leave happy. I'm a breakfast person and I liked their meals for breakfast. We have gone there on a number of occasions and I have always been happy with their food. My problem was the loud voices of the waitress about their personal lives with the counter patrons. I asked to speak to the owner who is the cook and the responce from him through his waitress was "what does he want?" I left without giving an answer. read more
