Good food & service on my first visit there. A little noisy but that's because people were enjoying their time together and their food!!

I am a travel nurse from Georgia who worked in Tom's River for 3 months in the off season. I discovered this diner one night on my way home from a long day's work at the hospital. I was too tired to go in & eat but I made myself pull into bc I was too hungry for another bowl of cereal for dinner. I didn't realize until I was brought my order that it was closing time but when I asked for my dinner to be boxed so I could eat it at home so they could close up, they wouldn't have it, they told me not to worry about the time, but to please sit and enjoy my meal. I'll be honest..this southern girl didn't expect this type of hospitality in NJ but I was pleasantly surprised & gracious for it. From that meal forward they were my go to diner. I didn't have anything that I didn't like. The seafood Alfredo was one of my favorites! And on my last day at the hospital, I asked the owner to cater breakfast for my coworkers as a way of me thanking them for being so welcoming & he went above & beyond with the variety of food & the amount of food he delivered far exceeded what I paid for! All the staff loved the pancakes, sausage, French toast, bacon, bagels, fresh fruit, etc. There was enough for 3 different units to eat! Very busy here on a Saturday summer day "down the shore" , but that was fine. We were still seated quickly, service was friendly and place was clean (although our seats were wet when we sat in our booth but easily dried off with napkins. 2 eggs over medium, side of crispy bacon & rye toast. Our party of 6 was sat quickly on New Years Day. Breakfast orders were taken quickly and everything came out exactly as ordered. Food was delicious too. This is not my first time here - and everytime I've come the service and food quality has always been spot on. I consider myself to be a pretty picky breakfast eater, as it's always my go-to at the diner aside from a burger. This diner is clean, staff is friendly and inviting. Chairs at our table were super comfy. I had two eggs over with corned beef hash & toast. An egg is not just an egg, it has to be cooked properly - no running white with runny yolk to dunk, lol. My eggs were soooo good and the corned beef hash was made just the way I like it - a little crunchy crust on top, YUMMO. My husband had the smothered chicken sandwich and loved it, our friend had an omelet that she said was delicious. Even the coffee and unsweetened iced tea was excellent. Our waitress, another waiter and the owner all checked in on us to make sure we were happy & didn't need anything. We will be back. read more

They have redone this building over and it's extremely nice inside very very clean. The food was excellent. The service couldn't have been any better. Another diner to add to the ranks of the NJ lineup! In all seriousness, we were excited when the old Mr. Breakfast converted into a shiny new storefront. We've tried the Band Wagon Diner a few times now, and it is a solid entry into the diner scene. I like that they have dinner and lunch specials, and most entrees come with coleslaw and a cup of soup. Personally, I've never tried the soup (I always deny it, although my meal comes with it) because the flavors never appeal to me. (They've consistently offered Manhattan Clam Chowder and Chicken Noodle / Rice, both of which I hate. Now if they offered lentil or split pea...) The food is always fresh and HOT - that small detail is so important. Each time we've dined here, the food (including the fries) has been so hot that we can't even eat it - a good thing, in my book! Our favorites are the breakfast staples (like pancakes), the wraps, and the panini (the one with the chicken and pesto is my favorite). In addition, the staff is always friendly. My one true critique is the hours in which it's open. The hours are like 7am to 9pm, which for a diner seems like a small window. However, I'm used to living in Hudson County where the diners are all open 24/7, so you can grab a bite to eat at 2am after you're kicked out of a bar at last call. I don't think Tom's River has that kind of scene! read more

I do not know yet, only had one visit, tried the meatloaf special and thought it was fine. Service was good but we arrived at 8:30 and they were closing at 9:00 so staff was in the process of cleaning and restocking tables which can be a distraction. It is a lovely new building. The worst open face turkey platter with yellow gravy was horrendous. French fries were cold. Also, ordered a Reuben, minimal Swiss cheese with minimal dried meat on it. No sauerkraut. The bread was the only decent thing. Not for me. read more

I would have always given this diner 5 stars. but recent change in owner and big turnover in servers has really made the experience here much worse. there are always bugs flying around or crawling on the table. my server today could barely speak English and my meal did not come the way I ordered it. this has been my go-to place but I am having second thoughts and will not risk bringing out of town guests. fancier desserts and a raining tea box and a new way to stack menus / all putting lipstick on a pig. read more

Although it always makes me hesitate a bit to give a bad review to a small business at which people work hard, I just can't recommend to eat here. I wanted to give them a better review because I had heard a lot of good things from people in the area. The last time I ate here was actually in 1985, and I have to say that it has not been updated since. I knew that the atmosphere was going to be a little outdated, but I was expecting it to be on the side of charming. It just seemed really dated, cluttered, and cramped in there. The place did not have a friendly, welcoming vibe, and I did not get the impression that they appreciated my business. The parking lot was also really rugged and just gravel. I didn't understand where the spots were. The menu seemed a little hard to navigate, old, and tired. I didn't understand all the categories. I was expecting it to be more similar to the Town & Country Diner on the other side of town, which is supposed to have the same ownership. The pancakes were actually pretty good. However the syrup that came with it on the table tasted really cheap. The side of sausage, which was extra, had been previously frozen. It was bad. Is the place called the Bandwagon Diner or Mr. Breakfast? That's something else that needs to be worked out going forward. One positive was that the service was very quick. We've been waiting all year for this to open and today we got our opportunity to fight our way through the door because the place has a line going around a building almost every time we pass it. The food is fantastic the place is immaculate, everything is cooked the way you ask you can't beat the service we will be back regularly! Don't go to the other diners on route 37 they're nothing compared to this. read more

I have been here twice, first time had the Cheeseburger Deluxe it was good, second time I had the Hot Open Turkey Sandwich which came with soup I had the split pea it was okay, salad very fresh, side veg of brussel sprouts disappointing no seasoning overcooked and frozen sourced not fresh and mashed potatoes not homemade, the gravy was some kind of yellow very thick topping not turkey gravy. The rest of the table ordered short stack of pancakes which tasted premade and heated up with a side of bacon (crisp and good) and a Turkey Sandwich which was good The server tried had a great personality but not trained for the job. We just came here for the first time. I don't know if it's new or remodeled or watt. All of the food is delicious. It was on. It was homemade for sure. In a size 7 awesome taste to it. Add to talk. Not too sweet. The short ribs were super tender break apart with a fork. Over rice and a very tasty gravy. The chicken noodle soup was fantastic and the turkey cream soup was delicious too. The waitress was spot on attentive. Everyone in the place seemed very happy and friendly. Inside was very clean. Quick service. Great atmosphere can't wait to come back. read more
