L. Gourmet on Atlantic City Boulevard, Beachwood, NJ, is right outside Toms River. It is a medium sized breakfast, brunch and lunch house, open from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, seven days a week. They offer a creative kitchen and culinary trained owner/chef, that attempts to do most things from scratch, but does also sell bakery products from nearby ovens where the quality is exceptional. I stopped in after court earlier this week. I had driven a long way, leaving home early enough to skip breakfast, and was hoping to make up for that after exiting court. Yelp found me this bistrot, and as usual, the reviews were accurate and a strong invitation. I went with a short stack of french toast and bacon, with fresh coffee to wash it all down. I received two half slices of a good thick cut loaf, nicely soaked in an egg/vanilla/cinnamon/sugar mix, with well done bacon and a wedge of sweet cantaloupe as garnish. It was all tasty and an excellent flavor/texture balance. The java was refilled twice while I ate. Service was friendly and efficient - as would be expected when the only customer in the house. The only shortcoming was the table syrup, which was generic. An offer of pure Grade B maple would have made this a near perfect ensemble. I always love this place. Today I ordered Togo, they were able to accommodate my curbside needs and the corn chowder is just absolutely the best I've ever had, the salad is so fresh and worth it for the money. I will be ordering from here more often. Food is just top notch. read more

I can immediately tell that whoever is cooking knows their stuff. Toast: the bread didn't come from a plastic bag. Perfectly toasted with slight grill marks. I'm raving about toast!?! The potatoes are seasoned subtly but the fresh seasonings just stand out. The bacon and cheese omelet is just a delight. This place is a gem. Only the 2nd time here but I will make the effort to come back more often. read more

Friendly little breakfast and lunch spot that I go to when visiting my parents. My parents are regulars on the weekends because the service is friendly and my dad loves that you can always find a seat. Breakfast is good and they're willing to make anything that isn't on the menu, as long as they have the ingredients. Along with the regular menu, they always offer a handful of creative breakfast specials, such as sweet potato waffles or a breakfast quesadilla. Coffee/tea refills are frequent and the food comes out pretty quickly. On weekends they carry donuts from Ob-Co Donuts in Toms River, which I haven't tried but are VERY tempting. read more

We went here for a weekend breakfast, in search of eggs and coffee. This modest and nondescript little diner-style place turned out to be a really pleasant surprise. Decor is pretty basic but neat and tidy, the coffee was good (although refills were slow in coming that day). The food was pretty great, especially considering the reasonable price. My girlfriend got a mushroom and spinach omelet, with breakfast potatos. I got a breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese and sausage. Standard stuff, right? Well, the breakfast sandwich had 2 eggs, good sausage and the right amount of cheese, and it was on a big, crusty, handmade hard roll that was really good, and looked and tasted like it came from some gourmet artisan bakery. The mushroom omelet was cooked perfectly, the ingredients were fresh as can be, and we both agreed the breakfast potatos were the best either of us had ever had. Perfectly cooked, well seasoned. Everything came out hot and tasty. Even the toast was top notch, being hand cut from a big, artisan quality loaf and toasted just right. They care about the food, and it shows - and it still cost less than the typical mirror-filled Jersey diner that has average food at best. We're definitely coming back. read more

Been our Sunday morning go to place for more than a year. Always been good but lately something has changed. Changed cooks?? Supplier?? Just hasn't been the same quality lately. And I've been over charged several times on my bill. Once or twice could be a mistake but not three or four times. They seem to hold off on bringing the bill to your table and you end up going to the register to pay without ever seeing your bill. ALWAYS ask for your receipt ! read more

My family and I went to L Gourmet for breakfast this morning. The food is always so fresh and delicious. I ordered a vegetable omelette with avocado on top which came with potatoes and fruit. L Gourmet is delicious! I used to live in Toms River but now live in Philly, and this is one of the only places I miss! Now I make it a point to go for lunch every time I am in the area and it NEVER disappoints! I have introduced several friends and family members to this place and they are regulars now too. Personally, I love the #1 (the Veggie Panini, except I get it on panelle bread with honey mustard instead of that thicker bread with pesto) The 'create your own' salads are also great! While the food was very good, the owners nasty disposition caused me never wanting to return. We visited 2 times over a few month period. Both times she was short, unfriendly, and had an over disposition. From placing our order to receiving our food to finally paying at the register when we left. She seemed inconvenienced and unwilling to give us the proper respect and customer service one would expect in a place of business. Not that it is any more acceptable, but our experience is one I would associate with a teenager working at the local supermarket running a cash register. They hate their job, don't want to be there, don't care about the customer and don't try to discuss any if it. This is NOT the behavior I would expect from a owner of a small business. The food just isn't good enough for me to want to spend my hard earned money on a place that doesn't appreciate my business in the slightest bit. read more

If I could give this place a minus, I would. The owner is very nasty, very unprofessional. I am surprised this place is still in business. I ordered sandwiches to go for a small event and was disappointed that they did not include the salad (which should have been included) with the order. When I called to mention the fact, she actually was very rude to me. My fiancé went in to buy a gift certificate, and was actually charged a fee!!!!. I've been to LGourmet all of 3 times but I'm reconsidering not going back..The food is good and the cafe is quite cozy but the service leaves much to be desired..I've had the same waitress twice and one other..Between them both there is never a smile and I can't help but feel like they are doing me a favor by waiting on me..Once we get our drinks and our meal that's the last we see of them..There is no asking if we would like another refill or even to ask how everything is...I don't think it's asking too much to expect when dining out to be greeted with a smile and attentive service..I'm giving 3 stars because the food is good but the over all attitude of the servers needs improvement.. read more

All around good food! Sandwiches are different than the usual sandwiches you see at deli's. Home fries are actually crispy which is surprising bc most breakfast places don't understand what "crispy" home fries means. Pancakes are delicious and the staff is extremely nice the only reason why I am not giving it five stars is because it is a little bit pricey when compared to other breakfast places. The omelets are on the smaller side but a good portion for me. Not your typical diner size omelet and price. read more
