We spent a fun evening at Captain's Cabin Bar in Coos Bay. They had a live band, The Mixer Band, that played some great rock and roll, and even a bit of blues. The crowd was local and everyone seemed to be relaxed and having a good time. It's hard to beat listening to live music while playing pool, and eating pizza, with a good beer! (Note that children are not allowed, but there were several dogs hanging out with their owners) They have a very large menu for a bar. I ordered the All Meat Pizza. I can't say that it was the best pizza I've ever had, but it was good. My vegan wife had a house salad and said it was "okay." I was going to take a star off for the food, but really, when I go to a bar I don't expect Michelin Star food. I enjoyed my pizza and had a good time, so it more than met my expectations. The one waitress was way over worked, and made some mistakes, but was friendly and did her best to make it a good evening for us, so I didn't mind. Overall, if your just looking to eat, there are better places, but if you're looking for a local vibe with decent food, live music on some nights, and a good selection of beer and mixed drinks, then give the Captain a try. The food is often good. Last night it was about the music, the people, & the drinks. Rockapedia is wonderful local musicians. They had steady flow and Mary brought home a clear performance even with requests and a crowd right in her face. The dance floor to small the chairs crammed in. It was great though environment and feel. Drinks came slower than should be. But done right when wait over. Nice mixed crowd so any one 21 and up is welcome. read more

Just killing time getting my window replaced across the parking lot and decided to get a bite. It was delicious. I was not expecting something so tasty at a bar. I had a quesadilla and it was delicious. I was just expecting melted chesse. I received a tasty treat with grilled onion, peppers, carne asada type beef and your choice of cheese and with fries, OR or tots. Really decent hot sauce too. Rarely find that around here. Actually made me sweat a bit. I'd certainly stop again if I'm in Coos Bay. Great cook. Only get down a few times a year but this will be on a stop list. Very nice staff also. Well I have to say that the bar Deserves more stars than I gave but I cannot find the karaoke company that was there on Thursdays and Friday nights to write a review for them I'm new to the area and I really wanted to go out and enjoy some karaoke I like the Friday night crowds usually because they're more supportive and entertaining and enthusiastic and I got that when I got there I ordered a non alcoholic drink and it was fast the service was great and then I signed up for karaoke before the 9 PM start time I was 3rd on the list that they had out now if they had a online availability they didn't advertise it so it's unknown if they even do So I waited and they called numerous regulars up If you don't have the song call that singer up and ask if they have another one that they'd be willing to sing that they may have but no that didn't take place they continued to call regulars up and I'm very disappointed for my 1st excursion out for a karaoke experience it failed. So after writing this review I was able to speak to the KDJ and it was the extremely busy night due to the place being closed the night before due to the weather. Wow! I have had bad service before but never like today. Sunday funday did not happen here. The place was not that busy and the bartender run the whole place serving while the cook yelled to where I could hear from the bar. I sat down and after 3 minutes was asked what I wanted. After ordering waited three orders before mine was poured. finishing the pint and waited for her to grab the empty and ask if I wanted another, which I did, for 37 min as she walked by me multiple times. I finally placed money on the bar and was ignored for 10 more minutes. This was all timed after she walked by and ask in passing if anyone wanted another which I could not reply fast enough I guess. well lesson learned. read more

My sister and I are new to the area, and we wandered into the cabin last week and we enjoyed the best breakfast that we both have had in a long time. Came across this place by accident and it was outstanding. Friendly staff, and awesome food. We were there for breakfast, and were told they had a new cook - what luck - he is amazing! Generous portions, and everything well prepared and flavorful. My wife had oatmeal and a side of fresh berries - blue, black and strawberry, super fresh and delicious (the same fruit that is used in their stuffed French toast). I had the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had, and being in my 70's, I've had a lot. Just a heads, kids are not allowed. read more

Pulled into town to stay at the Ded Lion. One of those things today with Companies cutting costs. Other hotels were cheaper but since I was with a group we opted to book at Red Lion and pay more because the rooms were bigger and breakfast was included. Bad decision. Upon check in, breakfast not included. My Mother-in-Laws whole reason to book there. Anyhow, when management asked us : "to prove it" I had no internet to their rewards program in the lobby...long story short! I left their property and hooked up to the wi-fi at the Captains Cabin whereupon I met Pam. The bartender. She has that something special. You know when you meet someone who loves their job and they really love people? That's Pam! Seriously, when you are tired. Me and my girlfriend stopped in for a quick drink while visiting Coos Bay for the first time... What a treat it was! The bar staff was so accommodating that they convinced us to come back later on. After we went to the local brewery (which we left immediately because of the feeding frenzy there), we went and got some delicious thai food before heading back to Captain's. This is when the night got really interesting. Everyone there befriended us, bought us drinks, and even took pictures with us. Even though everyone was trying to bang my girl, I definitely think I would go back there if I'm ever in Coos Bay again. This pub was a hidden gem that shouldn't be overlooked. From the moment we walked in the door, bellied up to the bar and left hours later this was a great stop. Joni was our bartender and there was another local in the bar when we arrived and were welcomed right away. Good stiff drinks, the tunes were a great variety and overall the best experience we had on our whole road trip as far as a place to grab a drink went. Stopped in for an early lunch (11:00am). There were only five other people in the place when I came in - a bartender and four drunks. When the bartender /waitress finally came to my table she looked at me like I had two heads when I asked for a menu. Ordered fish and chips.
