I don't mind paying the standard $17 or $18 for a salad, especially when the product is consistent . I do mind is paying that much for a salad that used to be 25% bigger, and now has fewer ingredients. I ordered the Cobb salad and, frankly, was disappointed. The bacon was there, but it's just a few sprinkles rather than the tidy little pile that they used to give you. The avocado was one third the size it used to be and the olives were, well, just missing. it was like buying the 6 ounce cracker jacks only to find out that the package now contains 4 ounces. Will I go back? Probably. I enjoy the people and I enjoy the wait staff (who appear to be genuinely nice despite what can be a rowdy crowd), I just don't enjoy what might be a sudden trend toward decreased portions for the same old price. read more

I have been a "Loyal" customer at Walt's for about 8 years. There have been some changes over time that seemed to improve not only the ambiance but the menu as well! A month or so ago, they got a different cook and hired new waitresses! The quality of the food has gone down significantly. I was a big fan of their burgers and chowder. They Suck Big Time now! My wife ordered a bowl of potato soup, she said it tasted like Paste. It was the most awful thing she has ever tasted! One of their new 20 something waitresses has a major attitude problem. Any time I asked her a question, she always replied with a Snippy Sarcastic answer! If I ever go back and she's my server, I'll just get up and go somewhere else! Tried Walt's today for breakfast. Showed up at opening 9am. My wife and I were craving chicken fried steak and have tried a few restaurants around town with mixed results. On vacation in Winchester Bay we decided to go for a drive. We ended up at Walt's Poorhouse to eat a nice dinner. We couldn't figure out what we wanted. There was so many options on the menu. Many of them sounded very delicious, but we weren't as hungry as we thought. Some of the options were just too large and too much. We decided to take a look at the appetizer menu and found what looked delicious. There was a special that day on chicken mini chimichangas. That's not at all what I went in there for. I was thinking I was going to get a personal size cheese pizza, but that chimichanga drew me in. It was very affordable at $11 on special. It came hot and quick with a side of sour cream and a very delicious salsa. It wasn't hot or spicy. Just had a nice tomato salty salsa flavor. The drinks came in great big mason jars with straws and lots of ice. The mason jars seemed like they were out of the refrigerator and were nice and chilled, great touch! We really enjoyed our dinner and the staff was friendly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We noticed everyone seemed to know each other in the restaurant, talking and knowing each other's names. It must be quite a popular place for everyone who lives here full-time. They didn't treat us like visitors. The food is great! They hand batter and fry the zucchini and it is my go to! The nachos have great balance of ingredients. The nachos will feed two. They have big food, brunch or lunch out in the patio in the sunshine is my favorite Sunday after a beach walk or a hike on the bay. All I can say is this place is a 10 out of 10! The food is consistently great, the staff are always friendly and helpful. If you like an exceptional Burger, you can't beat Walt's. Their meat and buns are made fresh daily. I have tried burgers everywhere else in Coos Bay and the surrounding areas, they are head and shoulders above everyone else.
