The 2 pieces of fish of Halibut were so small and the soup was a packaged cream base with small potatoes, frozen diced carrots and a few squares of beef in it, for $19 I expected a little bit more than an appetizer. I ordered a double tall Tito's and cranberry juice for a drink. I was charged $18 for 2 shots of Tito's and a $1 extra for cranberry juice. I even questioned the cost as I had the exact same drink at Walt's Pourhouse for $10. read more

Just a 10 minute walk from my house and has proven to be a great place to grab a bite to go go or sit down and catch up with friends. I'm working on trying the entire menu. By far my favorite so far is the Dungeness Louie Salad. Hamburger and fries is basic but good. Fried pork loin sandwich is HUGE! (Ask for a side of bbq sauce to elevate it). Fish and chips are delicious. I love that they have a daily soup as well as clam chowder. (I'm a total soup gal!) Happy hour is from 4 to 6 and drinks are good and inexpensive. The wings are my favorite food wise. They have a senior/Junior menu which I appreciate. A full casual bar and well lit (if you like bright places lol) restaurant. The menu has a variety of options from farm to sea and daily specials. There are a lot of big screen TV's if you're looking for a place to watch the game or games. The establishment is handicap accessible. Plenty of parking. Clean restrooms. Friendly staff. We support small local businesses and are happy to have a nice eatery right down the street. Hub & I are visiting the area and this was on my list to try because of the raves about the Cajun crab soup. We made it there for lunch, and it did not disappoint! The soup was simply fabulous, with noticeable crab shreds, with just-enough-to-notice spiciness. The onion rings were a large order...enough to share. The fish-n-chips were very tasty and crunchy. And locally-sourced beers and ciders to go with that great food! Our gentleman server was very friendly. He even mentioned that the local airport has commercial flights, which we didn't know; so we plan to come back to the area and stay longer. And eat more Cajun crab soup :-) read more

We had just arrived on the coast and were looking forward to a fresh seafood dinner at what used to be our go-to for seafood in Charleston and were hopeful that Miller's Cove would be as good or better. Service was abominably slow! We ordered big seafood platters to be eaten on the patio because our dog was with us. We received a plastic bag of take-away boxes. The draft beer machine was broken and only a couple of domestic beers were available so we had iced tea instead of the cold brews we desired. We took our food back to our RV and were very disappointed. Everything was dry, overcooked and relatively tasteless. It seemed to have been cooked from frozen, pre-breaded ubiquitous, fast food fare. We loved Fisherman's Grotto for the food, friendly service and the ambiance of a family, community restaurant. We won't go back or recommend this restaurant. read more

Probably more like a 3 than a 4 star but mainly just my personal preference and I don't want to drag down their rating. Chowder was good but VERY thick like gravy tasted better than it looked but I'd prefer more traditional. Cole slaw had 3 bean salad dressing. Very sweet, not really Cole slaw. Different but not in a great way. Fries were very good. Fish was good but we both got piece that were wet inside and made it soggy in spots which was not appetizing. Would have gotten more tartar sauce if someone had checked on us. Waited quite a while to check out at the register and paid cash to avoid another dollar credit card charge. Photos set an expectation higher than it should have. Plain atmosphere, sparse inside and a less than desirable site location. Online food descriptions also set an expectation that turns to disappointment upon arrival. Crab Tacos sounded great. I've never had a crab taco. Never even heard of a crab taco. I love tacos. But these were tasteless and pricey for what you get. Shrimp tacos were much the same. Had the crab soup to get started (appetizer) and it was actually not bad, but in hindsight should have had a full bowl, skipped the tacos and called it a meal. read more

There is both a bar and a spacious dining room, which was clean, comfortable and decorated with wonderful old photos and amazing hand built wood ship models. Miller's at the Cove has moved and rebranded. They are still in Charleston across the street from Englund Marine and is now Miller's Cove. The former seafood restaurant has been transformed to a restaurant and sports bar. The new full bar and its bar top are amazing. The food is the same with a few additions and still as good as ever. This place is light on ambience, extremely bright and clean, but waaay high on food quality! It is brightly lit with lots of tv's, def sports bar kind of place! Good for families. The service was very good and we got our food really fast. The "seniors/juniors" specials were a great size for us. We had fried oysters which were very fresh local ones, and beer battered halibut and chips. The beer selection is great, lots of micro brews on tap. We love going to Charleston to Chucks Seafood to get fresh fish, oysters, and crab, then stop here for a dynamite lunch. I'd say make this a happy stop! read more

Stopped in for lunch and was excited to ask about the Midwest-style pork tenderloin sandwich. I was even more excited when the server said it was pretty popular. My son and I ordered the pork sandwich and fried clams. The sandwich was very good, with the pork seasoned well and the focaccia super soft and toasted well. You can see in my pic how large the piece if pork is on the sandwich, the signature of the Midwest style. The fried clams are large pieces of the clam instead of strips. No problem there except by including the whole muscle, you also have to deal with the tough ligament that attaches to the shell. They were tasty, but I prefer the strips you find most places. The remodel wasn't much at all. And the new outdoor seating is right by the highway where it's noisy and very windy., I doubt anyone will ever sit out there. They are moving next month to a new location & what use to be our favorite go to restaurant when in town- "the fisherman's grotto" so we wanted to check them out. 3 stars service 4.5 stars food We had high hopes for this place due to all the positive reviews. Highly recommend do NOT come at 3:45-outgoing shift can't wait to get out of there, new shift hasn't quite began and not much attention paid to customers that just arrived. Plus, happy hour is at 4 o'clock -come to find out if you order at 3:58 you do not get happy hour prices. We had the chowder which was very yummy -more of a starchy potato base -than a buttery creamy base. Great flavor, would definitely have again. House salad was nicely done as well. Large portions of food. 4 of us, one went with the Venus steamers, one went with fried oysters 4, another with the fish and chips and I did a bay shrimp half salad 4. Everything was fresh and cooked to perfection. The only descent was the clam chowder, it was closer to a stew with lots of clams and potatoes, but not much in the way of broth. After looking over the menu, we decided to split a Dungeness Crab melt sandwich with tater tots. My goodness, that was good. The service was fine. I have been to Millers cove many times at the original location and have recommended to many people. This is not the same restaurant. I had prawn tacos and they were no where the quality that I've grown to expect. My 2shrimp were all but burnt, the quality of tortillas is substandard. I was very disappointed. The ambience was lacking. My friend had shrimp melt , she has ordered this before. The shrimp did not seem fresh and her sandwich wasn't nearly as good as it was before. The service was friendly and prompt. The place was inviting. W, Little, and myself each got a different kind of fish and chips. Cod, Halibut, and Rockfish. They were all pretty good. Decent fish and chips. Not outstanding but by no means bad. The batter was good. The batter on one of our fish didn't really adhere to the fish and fell off. The fish itself was good but the batter got a little soggy. The fries were average. The coleslaw was...odd. It wasn't terrible but it really reminded me more of the curtido they serve with pupusas. It didn't really match all that well with fried fish. Bonus, they had Hamms in a can. And PBR. Sometimes you just want a good cheap beer. First of all we had to wait for a table, which is fine but then one was ready... and had crumbs on it obviously not ready. So the waiter gets a cloth and needs to be trained on how to use it. So with crumbs on the floor we are seated to a wet table... and we deal, service not great definitely need training. Now mind you this is 2:00pm lunch on a Wednesday. As for the food we had halibut and a calamari app... neither as good as I remember... for the remodeling it's okay... for the repeat experience mostly likely not... We were greeted almost immediately upon entry. We ordered appetizers that were delivered quickly as were the entrees. You can see into the kitchen and it is clean and organized. There were only a few tables with customers when we arrived and it quickly filled almost to capacity. It was not overly noisy, we were able to talk and hear each other without any problems. The Bay Shrimp cocktail was generous in portion and delicious, including the cocktail sauce. The oysters on the half shell, goodness, firm, tender, fresh and delectable. The halibut fish and chips, perfect. The batter was light and crispy, not greasy or doughy. Cooked perfectly. The coleslaw is a sweet vinegar base, fresh and crunchy. Quite nice.
