Certainly a very local establishment. I wandered in here this afternoon based on my desire to find the perfect onion rings. The ones I dined on today were very close. It was bit of a rocky start, as I walked in, there was an incident involving a regular patron and a Keno payout. He was very loud and very aggressive. I will compliment the female employees, no matter how loud he got, they stuck to their guns telling him to calm down and let it go. I ordered the fried shrimp platter and added on the onion rings. When the plates were delivered to the table, I couldn't help but thing that such a presentation was the seed idea to the founders of Long John Silvers or Captain D's (look at my photos). The shrimp were nothing to rave about... they weren't fresh but were served hot. The fries were plentiful and I enjoyed a vinegar based scoop of cole slaw. The crown jewel of the meal- the onion rings!

    Captain's platter to-go with onion ring add-on ($4)

Definitely a good value for a platter! I got my platter to-go and it came with two tartar sauces and a coleslaw. It took about 10 minutes to get my order when it wasn't busy. I didn't realize the seafood was on top of battered french fries, so the onion rings add-on definitely was not necessary! The whole belly clam was my favorite, and I was impressed at how soft and tender the haddock was. Overall I felt the fried seafood could've used more salt on the breading- it tasted a bit bland. I did enjoy the French fries and onion rings. The coleslaw is very creamy and on the sweeter side, and the tartar sauce was also on the sweeter side with relish. I would actually add salt and vinegar next time to everything next time. Pro-tip you can freeze the leftovers to reheat in an air fryer! Atmosphere inside is definitely dive-y, and there's some street parking in front and on the side streets. Bonus is they now take credit cards! They do have daily specials so it's worth checking out their Facebook page which seems to be updated pretty regularly.

Bacon-wrapped scallops with a maple glaze

Cash-Only: I ordered the bacon-wrapped scallops in a maple-glaze sauce and got a Shipyard Pumpkin beer. Both were fantastic! The service was fine since I was there during an off-peak time, so I was attended to fine. The ambiance was very sea captain vibe.

Saw an ad on Facebook for Captain Jack's Seafood so thought we would try it. It is in the city of Lowell so use your navigation. https://www.facebook.com/CaptainJohnsLowell/ It is in a very populated part of Lowell so you may go right by it at first. But we found it and found a parking space as they don't have a parking lot. At first I was a little leery, but we went in. We sat ourselves at a table and a very nice waitress came over and asked us about drinks. There is a full bar available. I ordered a Cosma and my husband a Coke. So I heard the seafood was delicious, so we ordered a fried scallop, fried clam combo with fries and onions rings for a $3.00 up-charge. You get so many onion rings for $3.00 its unreal....The "DRY SCALLOPS" you get there...DRY meaning there are no chemicals in them are REALLY good and I am a freak for scallops...their onion rings are DELICIOUS! The second time we went there we ordered the baked scallops, mashed and cole slaw. Really good. My husband got the fried scallops because he liked them so much from the first visit. The reason I ordered mashed is because they serve battered fries and I am not a fan of them. Please change them................. This place has everything. Club sandwiches, pasta, you name it.............. Its very casual...but food is really delicious!!! Lots of photo's to come shortly!!!

People are constantly getting their cars broken into when they park to go to the restaurant. It's not worth it.

They offer platters, salads, gyros, cheese steak subs, burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, chicken nuggets & wings, baklava, and drinks in the cooler. The pricing seems fair. On my way back home, I stopped by Shah's Halal Food Lowell for takeout. I placed my online pickup order through DoorDash since I had credits. I ordered the Beef Chapli & Chips Platter ($11.99 plus tax) and Assorted Baklava ($3.49 plus tax). My online order was all set to go in about 13 minutes. The platter had soft seasoned ground beef kabobs, thin pakora chips, served over soft basmati rice and a mix green salad with creamy white sauce plus the optional hot sauces too. The platter had good savory and spicy flavors. The prepackaged assorted baklava was a good sweet treat for the after meal. I would definitely stop by again for more Halal takeout. I can already sense that Shah's could be expanding into NH, since the demand for Halal food is there. This Lowell branch is about 10 minutes to NH on Mammoth Road.

When I walked in and looked at the refrigerator that had the meats for the sandwiches it struck me that it didn't seem like the same quality meats that I had seen before. I don't know if this was a recent change, but I'm sure it's consistent across locations. We ordered three regular sandwiches, including an Italian, a steak & cheese and a super sub. We made two meals and one an individual sub. The total cost was just under $45. I was genuinely surprised by how much it cost. What equally surprised me was the amount and quality of the meats. It seems sparser than what I remember and not the same quality. The roll, dare I say it, was very subway like. It didn't seem completely done. I was disappointed. There are other alternatives that are greater value and quality.

As this is Latinx heritage month, seems like a perfect time to finally check them out. This is a tiny little store front. Most of the building is taken up by kitchen and storage. There are 2 two-tops and 1 four-top table for dining-in. Tables are very nice and the area was clean. An open kitchen over looks the dining area. A cashier stand, where you order, is to the left of the entrance. Menu boards are located on the wall above the open kitchen. A cooler across from the cashier holds bottled soda, water and tea. The cashier was super personable and answered a couple of silly questions from me. (I always have questions. So many questions!) I had to try the empanadas of course and they offer several varieties. My SO got himself a pepperoni pizza. We both grabbed bottled soda. We had an opportunity to chat a little with the cook too who is also very nice. A parton who is clearly known to the staff came in and had a long, friendly chat with staff while we ate. Just before we left some high school students came in. This is absolutely a neighborhood spot. The pastry on my empanada is very good. Flakey, thin, holds together well. I would have preferred less pastry for the amount of filling. Most bites were air. The ground beef was seasoned well enough but I think I was looking for more spice and maybe a little heat. Still, it was enjoyable. The vegetable empanada was bell peppers, onions and mushrooms with a little bit of cheese. Same result. I was looking for more filling, spice and heat. Don't get me wrong. They are good. I did enjoy them. And for all I know, this is the way abuela makes them. Everyone has their own preferences. This is just me. Take it as you will. My SO enjoyed his pizza. That's all I got from him. Sorry I can't elaborate. This is a small store front right off a neighborhood. On street parking is free. You may have to walk a bit from your parking spot, but as mentioned, this is really a neighborhood spot the locals frequent. There does not appear to be a public restroom inside. I didn't ask. Staff were lovely. Food is good.
