We both had enough for at least one or more likely two lunch meals. They only take cash. That's probably how they keep the prices so reasonable. I've been here a few times because my previous experiences were great. One of the items I ordered was the Chicken Caeser Wrap described as pan-fried chicken breast. Unfortunately, they used really dry breaded chicken chunks which are normally used in chicken cutlet subs. So, along with the croutons, it made for a pretty carby $10 disaster which I had to toss. Store was clean and well staffed. I had the meatloaf dinner. Meatloaf, Mashed, veg (green beans) and roll. It was... well.. bland. the meatloaf was mushy, the mashed potatoes tasted like nothing and the green beans were soft and mushy. Gravy was the greasy drippings from the meatloaf. Weird chunks included. There was a good amount of food... Loaded up with salt and pepper it was still boring. I also got a roll (2 slices of bread). The bread was good. I would give 3 stars for food. this is a deli serving hot food so I guess bland is expected. They have sandwiches and all kinds of other choices that look like fresh sliced. This place is CASH ONLY. They have signs all over the place. You can use their ATM at the front... after paying a fee of course. Frustrating to go somewhere that is such a dinosaur. The extra star subtraction is for that. We've been coming here for years (a favorite to all my coworkers as well) ~ I assure you, the staff is not rude lol they are old school, hardworking fantastic cooks who serve fresh food & large portions. Worked a long day outdoors. Just wanted a simple sandwich. After much reading off the menu, ordered a Reuben. Being half-New Yorker, I know good delis - they have a je ne sais quoi about them. That being said, the sandwich was fantastic, but I'm here about the fries. It takes a special place to focus on fries. Here at Centre, they are crisp and seasoned, not limp, overly salty, or greasy. It's a small detail, but it won me over. Any place that can make a fry "sexy" - is alright in my book. And for those of you that are complaining that it's cash only - "a real man carries cash" - and I'm that "man". Good eats! read more

I debated between the 1-2 stars before finally settling on 2 because service has always been kind and pleasant. I cannot for the life of me understand how/why people have given good ratings. I've been 3x and each time I told myself "that was a ripoff, not very good at all, and I could easily make much better myself at home for a fraction of the cost." For example, on my most recent (and last) visit I asked for the veal sub, which was advertised as the special that day. The kind woman working the counter asks someone in the back "can we do veal today?" What I got was a mountain of mush, where some of the veal was overcooked, some wasn't, the sauce was bland, yet somehow gave me heartburn, and it was wrapped so that that cheese got stuck to - and came off with - the tin foil wrapper. There was zero care taken to make this sandwich. Also - sorry, but massive portions don't make up for subpar quality. It's a shame because I live within walking distance, but this is just really mediocre-at-best food for high prices. If prices were CONSIDERABLY less, it might make it OK. That said, $9 for an inedible sub is inexcusable. Maybe their other "comfort" food is better, but if you can't make quality subs/sandwiches at a reasonable price, why bother with anything else? i pointed to the chicken broccoli and ziti to the rude woman behind the counter. She started to serve me from a different container and i said no not that one, this one. Just attempted to eat the sloppiest sandwich I have ever had in my life & I've had some sloppy ones! I could see if the cold cuts were fresh and it was just sloppy but the deli meat was of bad quality & was not fresh. They also dont accept any kind of cards, the older man in the front at the register told me I could use the ATM for a small fee of 1.75$. I had no choice since the subs were already made so I got some cash out. As I was handing him the cash he said "now that didn't hurt did it" to which I replied yes very much so seeing that you charged me & my bank will charge me as well. 2 sandwiches, 3 drinks, 1 bag of chips 30$. Visited here a couple of weeks ago for some grinders, ordered a couple meatball subs for my wife and I . I'm not from the area but go through Chelmsford on my way home so after reading on Yelp about this place I wanted to try there food . Service was quick and delivered to your table. Only reason I didn't rank this meal 5 stars was due to some of the fries being undercooked. Which is unfortunately inevitable with hand cut fries. I work in Chelmsford and was told that Centre Deli (CD) has some of the best sandwiches around. That being said, I had to try it. I was at the Bank of America across the street recently and thought it would be a good time to try CD for lunch. The inside is a bit boring and hodge-podge which gives it a unique character and not some standard, cookie-cutter feel. The place is basically a narrow room with limited seating on one side, coolers for beverages at the back, and the other side is the deli itself along with a salad bar and a small variety of deli meats you can buy as if you were at the grocery store. Upon entering it's a little perplexing where to go. I was following another customer in so I followed (literally) his lead. You go to the back where you can see all the daily specials listed above the beverage coolers or you can turned around to your right and look at the standard menu and order at the cafeteria-esque counter. The staff is very nice and attentive. The menu is varied and they use Boar's Head products and fresh veggies. I was told their Italian was the best around, so I ordered that. I ordered a small and bought a glass-bottled drink. The Italian bread was fresh, the meats were ample and their quality was not like the usual sandwich shops. They were real-deal deli meats that were not "questionable". After your sandwich is made and presented to you, you walk down to the front to the register to pay. The older man at the register was very nice and didn't bat an eye when I handed him a two dollar bill as part of my payment like most people do. The total was just under $8.00 after tax which is a little much when you look at chains and their prices. The difference though here is the quality: It's all fresh! I am a firm believer of "You get what you pay for", especially with food, so given that I could have gone else where for $5.00 and save a few bucks, the trade off is you're getting over-processed meats and maybe fresh veggies. The Italian was delicious! While it had a lot of meat, it wasn't overly packed with meat nor was it "mostly bread" like some chains. The lettuce was either green leaf or romaine, leafy, not like the status quo shredded iceberg. I've also gone back and had "The Carlton Club" on Italian with turkey (roast beef is the other choice; see picture). The bacon was a little greasy, but it was "real" bacon. It's not that "looks like bacon but it's not" stuff that's shoved off by other places and here the cuts were generous and thicker than you'd expect. I also bought a small can of soda with it. Total was just over $9.00 after tax. Again, sounds like a lot, but the quality is what makes up for it. Real turkey, thick slices of tomato quartered, leafy green leaf or Romaine lettuce, and just enough spicy mustard made "The Carlton" a hit with me. CD is one of those little small town gems that generally don't need to advertise much because their offerings do it for them via word-of-mouth. I used to like this place but the experience I just had was shocking and appalling and I will never return to this establishment. I ordered a "Pocket Veggie" directly off of the menu board which was priced at $5.25. When I got to the cashier (same older, overweight, balding gent I have seen every time) the charge was $7.00. I asked why it was different than the menu and was told that essentially I was wrong and it was $7.00 not $5.25 even though one of the workers yelled out $5.25 when asked the price by the cashier. No biggie, I thought, they will just adjust it. No, instead the guy who I assume runs the place starts making snarky comments to me saying "just give it to him, I don't want him to cry" and called me a "cheap-o". This is absurd and disrespectful of your customers. I will never set foot in that establishment again and I am deeply troubled by their customer service and accountability. Nice knowing you Centre Deli, there are many, better, local establishments that are respectful of customers and honest, unlike you. read more

I've taken my time to grab lunch here a few times. Where I usually grab a sandwich: ham and turkey with bacon and the 'fixens' on some form of bread (wheat being the most requested from me). Like Chris said, they definitely don't skimp out on the meats... it's almost worthy of a Dagwood award! They have the basic sub shop selections (steak bombs, cold cuts, etc) and they serve hot plates/platters as well. Chicken Parmesan and the likes. My only complaint would be the price, for a sandwich (the above mentioned), personal bag of chips, and a bottle of water runs me $10, which isn't horrible, but when I can get a foot long combo from Subway for a few bucks less... well, it's a noticeable difference. Heck, if I'm not feeling healthy there are a number of fast food places that will give me some super-ultra-heart stopper combo for about $3.00 less. :-P All in all, I do like this place for the occasional visit, but use it more as a 'treat' for myself with price considered. Sandwiches are good, and the location is in a nice little plaza so easy parking and access from/to the Chelmsford area. read more

They serve dietz & watson cold cuts, various subs sandwiches (spelled SADWICHES on the menu, oops!) party platters, etc. I tried the centre deli special: turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo, provolone on a sour dough roll. They were out of the bread, so I had it on a onion bulkie. Ingredients were tasty and fresh, and the turkey was piled high...no skimping here. It was $6 for my sandwich, so I felt like it was a pretty good deal....would be a great deal if they through in some pretzels or something. The atmosphere was your basic sub shop look, nothing too great. I'd say this place is better suited to take out. The menu is covered in ads which is pretty annoying. Anyways, I'll def be going back to try some of the other sandwiches and subs, and I recommend you check it out. read more

Great place to stop for lunch driving from NH to CT. Just a little over a mile off 495S, exit 34. The food was very good, service was friendly and fast, quantity and quality very good (they have a Boar's Head deli case), friendly neighborhood feel, and the price was good! $22 for 3 sandwiches, 2 drinks and a half sour pickle! Definitely recommend this place. We'll be stopping here again when we're passing by! read more

I just happened upon this place while in the area and looking for a quick bite. A little confusing at first and reminds me a little of a-1 deli in Haverhill. The guy (owner?) was awesome and didn't recognize me- he said welcome aboard! He recognized his customers and called them by name! Why can't they have a place like this in my hood?? Very impressive. I had the corn chowder on the hottest day of the summer and I didn't even care because it was SO DELICIOUS! We placed a work order of over 10 sammiches a few hours ago. They smelled delicious when our local pick-up employee brought them in! They were ready to go when she got there which was AWESOME.
