On a cold March day my husband and I and daughter went in to get a bowl of clam chowder when we arrived they had Lobster chowder the owner was very friendly and nice and offered us samples of both types of chowder. A little strip mall ma and pa joint. This was my third clam chowder restaurant in three days and did not impress. The chowder matrix was one step above mashed potatoes. The matrix was thick with pureed potato. Not a great taste, a step down from both the Pickled Fish and Lost Roo. However, my wife went with the smoked salmon chowder which seemed to have a cream matrix and tasted really good. I may have to try the other chowders next time. read more

We went to Bob's On a Saturday at 12 PM. Saturday is the big tourist day of the week and they had been open about 1 hour. The owner and his wife were there serving. They did NOT have half of the things on their menu. Its not that they ran out - the owner just didn't bother to make them. She didn't bother to get crab cakes. She didn't have bread bowls And she only had breaded fish cakes. She said so herself. This restaurant got rated in a local top 10 list and now the people both quit their jobs to sell chowder. Family day trip to the coast, we found this location to be quaint and charming. There is three tables inside, and a few picnic tables outside. The owner was very friendly and talked to us throughout our meal. My husband and I had a bowl of clam chowder, and a crab roll. The chowder was nice and creamy, it had great flavor, but lacked enough clams. The crab roll was tasty, it was a refreshing cold crab, celery, and maybe green onion? Mix, on a buttery toasted bun. My mom had the salmon chowder which included a breadstick and soda. She said it was very flavorful and filling. The breadstick was your average piece of bread, nothing to it, store bought. I expected more bread but it is all about the chowder. Overall it was a nice place to eat, we will probably come back because of how nice the owner was and how tasty the food is. I do believe he is moving to a larger location, which is next to Marshes museum, which I believe will get a ton more customers. read more

We recently stopped at Captain Bobs for lunch our first day in Long Beach, ordered his clam chowder with the complimentary breadsticks and he even brought us samples of another chowder he was working on. Everything was delicious as usual and he was so friendly and helpful! A couple near us were sharing a huge dish of fish and chips and saying it was the best ever. We should have gone back to Captain Bobs the next day for fish and chips but regretfully tried Castaways instead where the service was cold and the food made us sick. read more

When we arrived all but one of the four tables was full, well...one of Bob's friends was sitting there but got up for us and moved to a side table in the kitchen. There were seven of us...so he had some work to do, as he was working by himself, right before we left a lady joined him in the kitchen. And we came just in time because a couple more parties came in after us. The kids got the kids meal which were all just frozen prepared mickey mouse chicken nuggets from costco a small bag of chips juice box and a frozen gogurt (for $5 may not be the best stuff to feed the kids, but doable). I saw Bob bread the fish for the fish and chips. The halibut sliders were good and were decent sized. The coleslaw is unique as it contains cranberries and mandarin oranges...different but tasty. Can of soda and bottles of water are $1...the chowder was good. In some peoples reviews they state there werent enough clams but there were plenty in ours. The prices are a little high...as everything in these parts is...but still a little higher than some other spots. It was good and nice to help out small businesses, but nothing about the place necessarily stands out, but they have some good customer service...friendly folks. Their sign also says theyre closed Tues/Wed...we stopd in on a Tuesday...and they were open...so that was kind of cool too. Thanks. read more

This is a very cute little place with a few tables inside and a few outside. I had the scallop mushroom chowder and it was very good. The scallops tasted fresh and sweet and the soup has a good mix of ingredients. The breadsticks were lame, but I wasn't expecting much when I saw them. Cannot rave enough about Bob's alligator chowder. We happened to be in town on Jake the Alligator Man's birthday - a little morbid, if the special chowder timing was intentional, but nonetheless absolutely delicious! This was a hole in the wall, tucked up against Marsh's Free Museum, but we got there just in time and got a seat and it was quite fun to watch the tourists and the locals roll through. Bare bones environment but really good food! The salad and breadsticks are ho-hum, but let's be honest, that's not why you're there. read more

We had always wanted to go to long beach Washington, so this was our drive one Saturday. We "yelped" a place to eat, and this place come up. We read the reviews, and we thought why not. Well, we walk in, and this place is a "hole in the wall" maybe four tables total. There were two people working, a gal and an older gentleman. The first thing we hear is that we are almost out of everything, except chowder, and that is running low. Keeping in mind we showed up maybe an hour before closing. NO hello and welcome or anything like that. Anyway, this place reminded me of eating at "moms" the "menu" was written on a dry erase board, and that was all there is to offer, no real "menu" to speak of. I will be honest, we really went in for the chowder, because that is what the reviews raved about, and it was pretty good. My husband ordered the last of the fish and chips, which that was one of the items they were out of. (chips) so they were throwing in a salad. The chowder, they serve with crackers and bread, which they were almost out of that, I think we got the last 3 pieces that the gal reminded me she had to run to the store and buy. You eat out/off of paper plates, and if you drink pop, its in the can. Did I mention its not a fancy place at all. Would I go again, probably not. read more

Stopped by and picked up chowder. Favor is good, but I tend to like more of a richer flavor. Perhaps it was the missing potatoes or not enough onion and pepper, celery, because it seemed to be more of a thin milky flavor broth. Clams were a bit chewy. Ut that was ok.
