We did a take-out order the other night and I called ahead because I have a weird food allergy to make sure the food was safe. Spoke to James for the questions and the order and he was wonderful; patient and accommodating. Had the shrimp boil and fish & chips and we couldn't have been happier. James guided us well! I got take out, the fisherman's Platter this includes two fish sticks, shrimp, calamari with a soft shell crab and fries. The fish sticks were good but didn't have a good crunchy batter which was disappointing. The calamari was pretty good as were the shrimp. The soft shell crab was very fishy, so I couldn't eat much of it and the fries were nothing special. My friends and I were just walking through downtown Montclair, where we stumbled upon a new Cap't Loui. They claim to serve the "freshest seafood boil tossed in Louisiana style Cajun sauced bags." But with the amount of seafood boils opening in NJ, we were definitely underwhelmed. We ordered their shrimp with the Cap't Loui sauce, which was fine. The lemon pepper fries were bland and soggy, and the side of noodles garlic noodles had no taste. Service was okay; they did forget about our noodles, and it was hard for the waiter to show up with us being the only table sat. Just a head's up the place is BYOB therefore their popular drink pouches do not include alcohol within them. My friend and I both tried the strawberry lemonade and it was really good! It has a bit of a slush to it and would definitely taste good spiked as well! For an appetizer, we started with the calamari and fries. Although it sounds simple the seasonings and sauces that came along with it really elevated the experience. The cocktail sauce was so fresh! For my main entree, I tried the seafood bag with shrimp, mussels and snow crab. The bag includes two corn and potato pieces. All of the seafood was fresh and it was a generous portion. took my husband for Father's Day. I ordered the 2lb seafood boil, we started with the clam chowder only got one cup when we ordered two waitress said another batch is being made. I wasn't able to finish it so I took the rest home. Later that nite I started feeling sick going to the bathroom l, next day felt worst now has diarrhea and vomiting, by Tuesday I went to the doctor I had shellfish poisoning. Called the restaurant spoke to a manager she said she will have the owner give me a call later that day which he never did. it's been a week and I'm still sick doctor it can take up to 14 days to clear out of my system. The food was great but the sauce was too HOT (medium) so I couldn't enjoy my food. The noodles had zero potential. I think they should change the type of noodles to spaghetti noodles or ramen. The sauce was way too oily but overall, the food tasted good which is why I'd come back if this was the last option. Usually, I don't return to places I don't enjoy eating at.
