We came tonight with a party of 6 to celebrate Mother's Day. There were a lot of positives. First, the ambiance/atmosphere was truly top notch. We started in the lounge/bar that reminded me of a medium-scale cigar bar (sans the smoke); comfortable Leather chairs surrounding cocktail tables, kind of dark, but fitting for the lounge area, great service by the bar tenders...prompt drinks and friendly service. Once our whole party arrived, we moved to our table in the dining room.
And let me tell you, I think we got the BEST table in the room. We were Seated away from the kitchen and restrooms, right next to the windows (which are frosted and encased by some wrought iron caging and adorned with plentiful and beautiful flower arrangements), perfect lighting, and gorgeous views from every seat of our round table. 5+++++ stars for the atmosphere.
Our waiter, Robert, greeted us quickly, and refilled our cocktails that we brought from the lounge. He then told us about the specials. He was very knowledgeable and animated. He took his time and made us feel like he didn't even have any other customers. He was great. But then, after about 20 minutes, still no first course. Our salads arrived approximately 30-40 minutes after we placed our order. It didn't appear to be THAT busy, but we weren't too upset because we planned on being there for the duration, and were enjoying the atmosphere and the company. Robert returned to refill our cocktails again. This time, a drink was forgotten, and a martini that was supposed to be dirty came out dry. Ok...no problem. We alert him. He takes the martini back to fix it. But all they did was add olive juice to a martini that already contained dry vermouth. I'm a bartender. That's an absolutely no-no. We alerted Robert again, and he promptly fixed it...again. We also reminded him of the forgotten drink, and he returned with that one too. Not 100% his fault, but he should've known before serving the martini that it wasn't supposed to be dry. Oh well, things happen. Other than these two missteps, HIS service was fantastic.
After that, our entrees failed to arrive for over an hour. That's now 1 hour and 45 minutes we waited for entrees. When they finally arrived, my mother was served LAST, despite it being Mother's Day. And she ordered the fettuccine Alfredo, which was actually prepared tableside about 15 minutes BEFORE the rest of our entrees came out. So her meal sat there on a sauté pan in front of us for 15 minutes while we waited for the rest, AND IT WAS STILL SERVED LAST! What?!?!
Finally, and probably the most important part of the review: the food.
6/10.
Honestly, it was ok. My boyfriend's tenderloin (to me) was cooked to perfection. Very tender, but the accompanying sauce was bland. My risotto was barely cooked. It was crunchy. The scallops were very good, but there was a small sliver of a shell which I ate and got stuck in my throat. They need to be more careful!!! My mother's Alfredo was better than most, but not the quality of a 5-star Italian restaurant. My brother and sister in law finished the main part of their entrees (veal and fish) but left the sides. For dessert, the cannoli was ok. Rather like what I would get pre-made at the super market. Very lemony.
I am excited to go back and hopefully update this review. The time it took to get the entrees was much longer than we would have expected, even for Mother's Day, and the food was mediocre at best. But the atmosphere and tableside service were great...so I'm looking forward to a return visit. read more
