I haven't been blown away on either of my visits. 1st time, chicken parmesan was generic. Last night the shrimp and linguine was better, but the shrimp seemed to be cooked separately from the dish and were room temperature. We had to ask Tony for both pepper for our salads and parmesan cheese for our entrees. No olive oil on the table either. Nice they offer alfresco dining but the inside is very dark. read more

What sealed the deal for not returning was the attitude of Dario (the manager), very poor customer service. Just had a wonderful lunch with another couple outside today. Our waiter ,toni, was exceptionally cordial without being condescending. Our meal was delicious (try the tilapia) and the owner/chef came out from the kitchen to greet is and chat for about five minutes This restaurant is rated at five stars based in service/quality and taste of food/presentation/value/ambiance. However it would be nice that since their outdoor seating has a southern exposure that they have umbrellas. But there is no reason that they get dinged for the lack of this Go there and you will be more than satisfied. We plan on returning soon read more

I've eaten at Capri several times this past summer. Was served by Tony and he's amazing and professional. Always does more than expected to make your meal special. Tonight I was there with a close friend who I hadn't seen since summer. The first thing the waiter (not Tony) says to me is "you can only have the booth for an hour and a half". I laughed and said that we hadn't seen each other for awhile and what if we went over the time? He said "I guess we'd throw you out. We were both laughing, but I found it strange. We both ordered the jumbo shrimp, marinara over linguini. We both also asked for it not to be spicy. The description mentioned crushed hot peppers. Our meals arrived and we started eating. We then realized the shrimp weren't jumbo. I mentioned this to the waiter and he apologized and said "do you want something else"? We should have sent it back, and didn't. So closer to the end of our meal, I asked if we could get a discount. He said "well you ate it, didn't you?" I politely asked That he ask the manager if we could have a discount. About 5 minutes later, he brought us a small plate of cannolis, that were not tasty. He presented us with the bill, which did not include a discount. This is the first time I've been disappointed in Capri. We were treated rudely, and the food should have been discounted. read more

My husband and I visited for the 1st (not last) time on Saturday 3/4/17. We went at 5 as they don't take reservations on Friday or Saturday for parties of 2 and I knew it was small so off we went. We were seated right away but unfortunately, it was by the door and every time the door opened, it was freezing. Request to be seated far from the door in the winter months. Our server Tiff was great! The tomato paste they serve with the bread was delicious! The bread was served dry- which I like b/c I don't care for buttered bread. They also provide parmesan and oil for the bread- my husband used all and loved it. I stuck with the tomato paste and parmesan and a touch of salt. For our entrees he ordered the Bruno- Pollo Vesuvio $19.00 and a bottle of Goose Island IPA $5.00. You get a choice of soup or salad and he chose the caesar- he loved his main dish and said the salad was good but overly dressed. I had the Piatti di Mare $27.00 and requested the Diavlo sauce b/c it was spicy with a side salad. They only offer a vinaigrette as the dressing so I requested it on the side and used the aforementioned tomato paste as my 'dressing'. The salad is completely forgettable BUT the dish is not. The portion is huge and delicious- see my pics. I have enough left over for 2 more meals and I'm usually a member of the clean plate club! Prices are reasonable for the portions given, I wish their side salad was better, and if only there was a way that the patrons seated by the door didn't have to freeze this place would be a five star experience. Food was good as usual, but the man at the front desk was rude. I made a reservation early in the week for Saturday night. When we arrived he could not find our name on the list. He acted annoyed. There were plenty of empty tables and he seated us downstairs. Then he informed us we had 90 minutes at the table. He said if we went over the time we had to leave. I would have liked to know that when I made the reservation. We enjoy having a coupe of drinks & a couple of appetizers, a leisurely dinner, and then dessert with coffee and after dinner drink. Not wanting to be asked to leave we had one drink and dinner. No appetizers or dessert. He missed a much larger bill along with a very unhappy customer. This was my first & last time going to Capri. We went for my Birthday dinner and was disappointed from start to finish. I called capri earlier in the day to make a reservation for 8 people. I told them this was all of our 1st time. It's July. & was 90+ degrees today. We arrived for our reservation and they told us that there was a dress code and we couldn't come in because one person did not have sleeves!? I would totally understand and not complain if that was stated on your website, facebook page or even when i called and told you it was my first time. I complained and the one hostess went to go ask a manager if it was okay that we come in anyway. They allowed it but rudely made sure that if we come next time to follow the dress code!? We came here this evening after a short stroll through Cruise Night in downtown Plainfield. I love this place and it's old world Italian charm, but mostly the service provided by Spencer was excellent and the food divine! My daughter and I shared the pappardelle bolognese. Talk about sweet, delicate sauce over hand cut sheets of fresh pasta. I was sad when my portion ended, LOL. My husband had the Lasagna Carne and it was just as divine. The three of us then shared the Limoncello cream cake, rich, yet delicate, topped with an amazing Luxardo cherry! If you want Italian in Plainfield this is the place. Can get busy so plan accordingly but when you eat the food you'll know why. I personally always get the Aragosta Diavolo. The chef will sometimes come out and ask me how spicy I want it and tailor accordingly but usually I just tell them to go with his norm. It's a huge dish and if I offered any suggestion it might be a little less squid and a little more something else, but that's just me. I've sampled alot of other dishes the family has ordered and nothing ever disappoints. Service is great as expected in a good Italian restaurant. After checking the restaurant's website for their operating hours, my husband called the restaurant at approximately 7:30 p.m. tonight to make a reservation for this evening. He was told that there were plenty of open tables and that he didn't need to make one. He was also told that the kitchen would be closing at 8:30 p.m. We arrived at the restaurant at about 7:53 p.m. I went inside while my husband parked the car and waited for a couple of minutes before being greeted. When the person came to the post, we were told "Sorry, we're closing tonight at 8 p.m." We returned to our car extremely disappointed. The time was 7:57 p.m. Firstly, it's important to update operating hours on websites and social media. Secondly, make sure team members have accurate information to share with prospective guests. Thirdly, if you say you're closing at 8 p.m., you take guests up until that time and don't turn them away several minutes before. read more

Had reservations but waited unaddressed inside small entry while person at front desk finished phone call... no eye contact, no recognition that we were even standing 3 feet from him! Very poor welcome! We were seated at a table and were unlucky enough to have a gentleman server who actually acted like we were a problem... we are very quiet and asked for nothing! After taking our order in a very military manner he failed to ever return to check on our dining experience...I felt very uncomfortable. I called 15 minutes out asking if there was a wait. The girl answering the phone says "no, we're not on a wait." "Great," I said "we'll be there in 15 minutes." Show up 15 minutes later and she asks if I have a reservation. "No...I just talked to you and said we're on our way." No room to seat us...fantastic. Annoyed a dinner here last evening with 11. Were seated in the private room, great for small gatherings with some privacy. Food was excellent, large portions and wine was great. Well I haven't had to leave a bad review in quite some time, but let me see if I remember how to do it.... Let me set the stage; Saturday 6:30 PM, sit outside with our best friends for a nice meal. We order some sangria, a bottle of wine and some apps. Apps were good. Waitress explains the specials and does a hell of a job up selling the Dad's day Steak. My friend and I order the steak, him medium and mine mid-rare (of course). Mouth begins to water...., Soup comes... Tasty. Steaks arrive and I immediately cut mine in 1/2 to stop the cooking process. Dammit....well done. Now, if I was sitting in Chili's and I was dumb enuf to order a 16 oz ribeye I would expect to get a ruined steak. But Capri is billed as a top notch eatery, and that comes with a responsibility. Charge $45 for a steak, don't turn it into a hockey puck. Sooooooo, that was a mistake, and having served in "fine" restaurants for 12 yrs it still wouldn't pull a 1 star from me, cuz shit happens. But Capri then proceeded to break the cardinal rule of the service industry. I informed my waitress of the ruined meal, and she apologized profusely. She offered to replace it.... But with 3 toddlers, I told her that wasn't possible. I told her I would eat it but she should inform the cooks so no other patron's meal was ruined.. We finished our meal and asked for the check because it looked like rain was coming. FULL PRICE FOR BOTH STEAKS!!!!!! No apology from a manager... And not a cent of discount. It is sooo easy to fix a kitchen fuck up..... Give shit AWAY!!! Bad food, bad management. In-excusable! Will not be back.... Do yourself a favor and eat at Borolos in Joliet or any Francesca's is you want legit Italian. You'll thank me . Oh and the wine list sucks. read more

Absolutely delicious! So glad there is finally a nice place to get good Italian food in Plainfield. The location is great and parking was a breeze. The staff were all very friendly and very fast. Our server was Paulina, and she was / is fantastic! She was super friendly and very attentive to us. We chose the Lasagna and Chicken Marsala. The portions are great. Actually, the lasagna was 3/4 of the size of the plate, so lucky for me I have left overs. :-) The taste of the food was awesome. It definitely tastes homemade, compared to some places where you can tell it came in frozen off of a truck. Would I go back, you bet!! read more

Went in on Tuesday evening and made reservations for two for dinner at 6:00 on Wednesday evening. No problems. Arrived Wednesday about 5:50 pm. Was told that we could not be seated. Good quality Italian food that gets the job done when we don't feel like driving to Chicago. We picked up dinner last night, our order was well packaged, accurate and properly prepared. They even remembered the bread and the freshly grated cheese. An odd thing to be excited about but takeouts and deliveries have been a challenge for restaurants to get right lately I digress. My bride had the Chicken Parmesan with a side of penne marinara and house salad. She was pleased with her dinner I ordered the Veal Marsala with a side of penne bolognese and minestrone soup. BE AWARE OF THE CHARGE TO SPLIT A CHECK. I have never been to a restaurant that charges you $5 extra per couple to split a check. Most ridiculous policy ever. We enjoyed the food, but we will never return due to this unbelievable charge. I asked if we paid cash would we get a 3% discount since they would not have to pay the credit card company for processing? The answer was no. Exactly, that's a cost of doing business just like splitting a check. There are many choices of good restaurants. Don't need to be treated like this way. Don't know how you stay open. This place was just good Italian. (And they have their liqour license). My wife tried their Sunday plate, which was really, really good. Like we took it home and had it for lunch and dinner the next day, it was so good. I had the Tortellini Paesano, which was thankfully smaller than the Sunday plate - I only got to take some home for lunch. The french bread was fresh, the salad and soup were good, and the tomato and mozzarella appetizer (which is part of the reason why we couldn't finish dinner, okay what I couldn't finish dinner) were pretty darn good. I like authentic Italian, the problem is that it is hard to find. It was nice to find this place - we'll be back. One quirk - we were there and the tables were all full (reservations are suggested by me if you want a seat!) so we sat at the bar. Since we had some idea of what we wanted, we ordered wine at the bar, and then had to cash out that ticket. Most places would just jump it to the table. We usually meet friends in downtown Plainfield for dinner and enjoy this place. The food is always very good and the staff always friendly. This time we went for an after dinner drink. We like to walk around after dinner then pop in at another place for a drink. The bartender was very friendly and we enjoyed our time. The only drawback was my friends wife likes to have a shot of Tequila after dinner and they only had 1 brand and that was the worst she has ever tasted. Not a problem for me I don't drink it. We used to be regulars at Capri on the South Side and the location in Palos until we moved out to Lockport. Decided to try Capri Sogno on a rare date night and we had a taste for Italian. Even better than those locations. Wonderfully intimate, conveniently located and utterly fabulous food and service. We shared the Calamari Alla Capri as an appetizer (even better than we remembered) and I have the Piata del Mare with the white wine sauce as an entree. So many shrimp, clams, mussels and pieces of calamari I thought it was an order for two! Service was impeccable and we were not rushed out the door during the meal (a rarity nowadays). Had lunch with a business associate. Both of us first time visits to restaurant, but had heard & read good things. The 1st floor dining area is small and cozy, but you don't feel cramped. A bistro look & feel. We started with a seafood appetizer of grilled Calamari, Octopus and Jumbo Shrimp on a bed of greens & Balsamic Vinegarette. Taste was OK, but it was certainly overpriced for what was served. My associate, who happens to be Italian & from New York, ordered the Meat Lasagna which he stated was maybe the best Lasagna he had ever had. Thats a bold statement from a highly qualified Italian food connoisseur. I had the Rigatoni Arribiata. Rigatoni noodles with a (perfect) spicy Red Sauce and Prosciutto. Its ok, I would not rave or tell anyone to eat at this Capri Restaurant. They are not the same. The Capri in Burr Ridge is the best. the drinks are ok, but I did not order a second. The food is warm, bread is cold. This Menu is not extensive compared to others. read more
