Great food!! My new special dinner place. Staff is friendly and the restaurant is cozy and beautiful.

Capri Sogno is a remarkable restaurant that has authentically-made Italian food by Chef Roberto. He is a hands on chef catering to his guests. The food is exceptional. My family and I eat there 1-2 times a week. There is a remarkable menu with specialties everyday. You will start with a red pepper antipasti that is so good on bread, but you will want to eat it with a spoon. The appetizers are delicious. A favorite of mine is the Vongole Al Forni, (baked clams), and the Cole or Vongole alla Capri (steamed mussels or clams in a light broth). And you can't go wrong with any of the Calamari offerings. Actually, you can't go wrong with any of the choices. The Pasta is al dente, and the sauces stimulate your tastebuds. The veal and beef Ragu red sauce is like Sunday dinner in an Itslian home. Mama Mia!!! All of the entrees are a joy and stimulate the sensed. They are presented beautifully, smell divine and are a taste treat. The fish is always fresh and amazing. The wait staff, bartenders, the hostess, and especially Chef Roberto are more than exceptional. They are all friendly and attentive. Once you've been to Capri Sogno, you are family. Overall, great ambience in here. Server was very nice. But the food was very bland and came out undercooked. Definitely would not recommend the eggplant parmigiana. Something with the flavor was not right... lack of flavor and came out originally drenched in sauce. The server sent it back to get cooked longer for me. But honestly the breading was still very undercooked or soggy. I think if the breading has more flavor and was cooked longer it would be so much better. The baked clams were pretty good. read more

Capri is hands down the best Italian food in the area. Rigatoni Vita Mia is my favorite.

Only negative comment from the table we did not like the salad coming pre dressed with Italian dressing leaving diners no choice. That said it was a decent dressing. Linguine and clams....person usually doesn't finish food at restaurant....plate empty Spaghetti and Italian sausage and meatballs, both made in house were great. I enjoyed the sausage soooo much next time I might get two sausage links and no meatballs. read more

Came here for drinks a month or so ago with my parents and sat at the bar downstairs. Drinks were great and so was service. Decided to come back for dinner with them. We were at party of three and sag upstairs. Ordered drinks and apps to split between the three of us. My mother ordered a lemoncello martini without sweet and sour mix. The bartender brought out the shaker to pour table side, granted it was half a drink without the sweet and sour mix which was understandable. Ordered calamari, baked calms and grouper to split. The grouper was so over cooked it was like cutting cardboard. In my second round of drinks, I had a random piece of material in my drink. Manager said it was probably some shaving from the stainless steal shaker that chipped off and landed in my glass which has you question the cleanliness of the place and how often and proper clean their shakers. When we received our bill which was around $90 there was a random EO charge under the taxes for around $5. The server explained it is disclosed on their new menus (which were not given at the table, I guess we received the old menus) based on the economy instead of increasing prices in all items. Service was decent, experience was sub par. If we were to dine at capri I would recommend giving another location a shot. read more

We just tried Capri Sogno in Plainfield and we were not impressed. Toni was our server and he was very good. This restaurant entrees are priced very high! Entrees that were good- The Lasagne was good and tasty. The Chicken Parmesan was very good and came in a good quantity. The Bruchetta was pretty good except the price was awful high for 4 large pieces of bread. The calamari was very good. The Cod and the sauce were very good but there wasn't enough of it (one 3"x3" piece) for the money. What was not good- The porkchop was spiced very well but for a restaurant to serve a pork chop that was so tough was terrible! I've had better porkchops from the local grocery store. The Chicken Limone was also very small in quantity that our diner left hungry. We have eaten at other Capri Restaurants but this has not been a good dining experience. Sorry Capri Sogno. We went here on Christmas Eve. The food was excellent. We're going back and will start being regulars. The owner was beyond friendly. Talking to him was as if we knew him for years. I have been back multiple times sense my last not so great review. I want to start out by thanking them for staying open during the second round of JB shutdowns. My husband hosted a surprise birthday dinner for me here and it was AMAZING!! I can't speak highly enough of the staff. They were super accommodating with our party of 15, where we were able to have a private room and I had no idea it was happening. We were on the 2nd floor of the restaurant in a cozy room. Our waitress stayed on top of all the drinks and menus and was super patient and kind, AMAZING service by all. The food was also incredible. We all got multiple different types of meals from the sea bass to the salmon to all different kinds of pasta and everyone LOVED the food. I personally ordered the chicken parm and it was delicious with the perfect portion. There were also 5 babies/kids and they were super accommodating with the kids on ensuring they the kids got food asap to assist in keeping them calm. UPDATE: spoke with the owner Robert they do have high chairs but only 2 they were both in use. There was a communication error with the hostess the server (Tony I believe? Who we've had many times he's great!) did not tell her no like she told us he told her he needed to wait for a different table to leave that would be a better fit for us. They plan on speaking with the hostess about communicating issues better with their customers. So if you plan on going with kids maybe call ahead to see if there's a high chair available as they only have 2. Capri must not be a family friendly restaurant anymore? We were just turned away from their patio as they "don't have high chairs" ok that's fine we offered to take a table on the patio that a family had just gotten up from that we could park our stroller next to as they "don't have high chairs" the hostess said she had to check with the server who apparently said no as we were turned away. Very disappointing as we had been there with our child and family many times in the past where our son sat in a high chair and also stroller when he was smaller. We've given lots of business to Capri in the past and are generous with our servers. I doubt we will ever return to Capri after this. Apparently they don't need our business read more

Capri Sogno was very impressive. Everything you ask for from a restaurant happened right here. First and foremost the most important is their customer service. It was exceptional. Very professional from beginning to end. We ordered bruschetta and I went with Platto di mare. You can order the dish with either red or white sauce. Neither of them are spicy and our waiter recommend the diablo sauce if I wanted sauce. It came with calamari, shrimp, mussels, squid and clans over linguini. Don't regret one bit. It was a very delicious dish and it came with either soup or salad. I opted for the soup with spinach and rice. I'd recommend this place to everyone. Beautiful spot. Quaint, classic Italian family owned Restaurant... very aesthetically pleasing!! I dined al fresco during the plainfield "cruise nights" which is held every Tuesday. Live music and great people watching. I ordered the Branzini with spinach and angle hair pasta. Absolutely delicious!! Passing thru the small historic downtown area of Plainfield on our way to a business meeting and we found this cute Italian restaurant on Yelp. My coworker is a vegetaian so we knew there would most likely be vegetarian options. The restaurant, itself, is decorated in tasteful traditional italian flair. Very elegant with white table cloths and napkins folded to look like rosettes. Bread was served with a tomatoe paste that we could mix with olive oil. It had just enough zing to delight your taste buds!! (We later purchased a pint of it for $3.50 to take back with us to Dallas, TX). I ordered the Rigatoni Vita Mia. The waitress recommended a special veggie & pasta dish, not on the menu, for my vegetarian co-worker. I've never seen such huge noodles!! Most times large noodles are really mushy but the rigatoni vita mia was perfect al dente. Our waitress shared that it was a very old family recipe. The noodles were complimented with a ground sausage & vodka sauce. My co-worker raved about her pasta as well. Our only regret was that there was so much that we couldn't finish it. Since we are traveling, we couldn't take the leftovers with us. I eould have loved to try a dessert but I had completely filled up with the pasta. Service was quick & efficient and our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu. This was the best veal Parmesan I've ever had including Italy. Perfect ratio and so light, yet hearty. Love that they put the pasta and red sauce on the side. Photo is empty plate for a reason. Excellent food and service! For appetizers we had the mussels and baked clams, which were absolutely perfect. For our main meal, I had the rigatoni with vodka sauce and sausage and my husband had the gnocchi with veal bolognese. Both were absolutely delicious. Our annual Christmas Eve dinner at this establishment has significantly degraded since we began this tradition some years ago. This year was by far the most disappointing dining experience. We had an 8pm reservation and were seated at 830 pm - turned away at 745 and made to wait outdoors in the cold. We had requested a table upstairs, yet were seated just inside the entryway - thus the chill we endured until "table was ready" persisted throughout dinner (note said table was visible while we waited, set and ready for our party of 4). Staff, from hostess to servers, were most unwelcoming, unfriendly and seemed put out by holiday patrons. Ambiance was mildly festive, but crackling speaker positioned above front door/dining table blaring operatic music(?) kept conversation to a minimum. Food, from appetizer to entree was bland and unremarkable. Drinks are overpriced for size. Our meal felt rushed, so we didn't bother to stay any longer than necessary for dessert or a nightcap. I've had capri a few times before and I've never been blown away by the food, especially compared to the price. It's good pasta but you'd get more bang for your buck at Olive Garden. Personally, my pasta was not cooked the whole way so it was pretty hard and for $25 I would have liked to see a little more food. The tortellini was $25 and was good but also just 5 of them. The server was nice, his name was Tony. He gave suggestions and kept the drinks filled. He's one of the reasons for the high review. It took about an hour from when we got sat to when we got our food and there is a 90 minute limit which we would have went over if we wanted desserts there. I don't mind the time limit if the majority of the time is spent eating. My brother got the lamb chops and said they were really good. If I came back I would come back strictly to try them. The cannolis are just okay too. I'd give a 3.5 if I could. If the prices were less I would give more stars. read more

I was surprised to find a pretty decent Italian out so far from Chicago. Both the outdoor area and the indoors is quaint and romantic. I enjoyed the proschuito, tomato and mozzarella appetizer, and that the entrees all came with a mini salad (Caesar was great). The lasagna was decent, nothing to say wow about but not bad. We finished dinner with the tiramisu which was tasty but still not the best I've ever had, but beautiful presentation. Came in on a Thursday night at 6:20pm with my husband and my 4y/o daughter. We didn't make any reservations since its only a weekday. A guy at the hostess stand said the wait was 30 minutes which we gladly agreed to wait and gave our number so they can call us while we can stroll downtown Plainfield. 6:53pm rolled by so we walked back to the restaurant, an older guy at the hostess stand was confused when I said we were waiting for a table and the other guy said 30 mins from we originally came in at 6:20pm. The guy said "oh no! Its another 40 minutes maybe to an hour! There's 6 tables before you that I have to take care off!" Lack of communication and organization is what I see in this place. Wasted our time. And having a hungry 4y/o is never a pretty sight. read more

I'm so glad this restaurant has outdoor seating during Covid! All employees were wearing masks. I got the mussels in white wine sauce and they were cooked to perfection. Stopped in Capri Sogno yet again. It's my suburban guilty pleasure. I have to go to dinner with friends tonight, and was trying to save my appetite for later, but I couldn't help myself. What was supposed to be just a salad turned out to be much more. As usual. Sometimes I search Yelp for reviews on new places and make my food decisions based on that, but then other times (like now) I search reviews and wonder WTH people are talking about. You come to Capri alone and expect to sit at a table for 4, then complain they offer you a seat at the bar when they're busy? Why would you expect a busy restaurant to accommodate one person at a 4 person table when there are people waiting? Go to Panera instead maybe? Then you get the people critiquing appetizers and letting us all know you are "of Italian descent" which I guess would make you the expert on how much clam meat goes into a clam lol? Not for anything but, not all clams are the same!! Haha! I stand by all my reviews on Capri Sogno...this place is amazing and I will continue making my way from the city to downtown Plainfield when ever I want real Italian food - besides home cooked meals because, you know, I am of Italian descent ;) read more

Clearly this restaurant is meant for a certain demographic. Cut to the chase. We were thrown in a seat and forgotten about for about 15 minutes. Then at that point a family of 4 was seated right next to us and IMMEDIATELY was asked what they would like to drink and have as a starter by the person who threw bread and water on our table without even telling us his name. 5 mins after that our order was taken, very quickly, lack luster, and we still don't know the waiters name. The other table was doted on a bit, asking them how their day was, chatting with them, and checking on them 3 times in the span of 10 minutes. And here we are sitting in the corner outside, with barely a glance thrown out way, let alone any attention. And still sitting here while I write this. The experience is already ruined before we have had any food...if we even get it. Must be my fault tho. I apologize if my being a black gay man on a date with my bf was a problem. Oh look...another table seating and chatted up. And us...still nothing Food finally came and shout out to the chef, for giving me a reason to not walk out. We are leaving now after a few bites and the only reason I know our waiters name is cuz I overheard him say it to another new table. Sorry we were undesirable guests Spencer. And your excuse that you're busy as a reason for keeping us wait is bs cuz we still came before the others. Heads up to ppl who in any demographic other than the majority. What sealed the deal for not returning was the attitude of Dario (the manager), very poor customer service. I haven't been blown away on either of my visits. 1st time, chicken parmesan was generic. Last night the shrimp and linguine was better, but the shrimp seemed to be cooked separately from the dish and were room temperature. We had to ask Tony for both pepper for our salads and parmesan cheese for our entrees. No olive oil on the table either. Nice they offer alfresco dining but the inside is very dark. read more
