Capital Musubi has a really wide selection of custom musubi, poke, and other Hawaiian-inspired dishes, which I appreciated. There's also an option to mix and match and try different combinations, which is a plus if you like variety. The musubi options sounded more exciting on the menu than they tasted. We went with the OG and Double Trouble. I was especially surprised that the Spam wasn't fried because it lacked that crispy, caramelized texture that usually makes Spam musubi so satisfying. I ordered from Capital Musubi near Dulles, right off Route 50, and overall I really enjoyed it. I got the teriyaki chicken bowl and an ube rice crispy treat. First, the portions are big. I only ate half of my bowl and had the rest for lunch the next day. One of my coworkers ordered the exact same thing and did the same. This is definitely not a single-sitting meal unless you're very hungry. The teriyaki chicken bowl was flavorful, filling, and satisfying. It hit exactly what I wanted for a comfort lunch without feeling heavy or sloppy. Everything tasted fresh and well put together. The ube rice crispy treat was such a fun add-on and honestly a great choice. Sweet without being too sweet, a little nostalgic, and a nice way to finish the meal. This was such a great stop for a little taste of home. The musubi combinations look gnarly. It was hard to just settle on one. The loco moco fries smacked. The only challenge was when ordering from a screen, you can't really customize your food a lot. I get why places do it. It does become a struggle of a parent with a picky eater who thinks furikake is pepper and refuses to eat anything with pepper or spice. The place definitely has a lot of charm. A few tables/booths. One bathroom. The workers behind the counter stayed pretty busy with the amount of orders that came in so even though there's no personal greeting, it does give the impression they're definitely getting good business. Owner hear tells me each one is a lb of food... that's how big it is. I've journeyed to Hawaii before and Hawaiians love their rice. We ordered the OG spam musubi, salmon musubi, and spicy chicken musubi. The musubi was HUGE! Way bigger than traditional musubi (I feel confident saying that having had musubi in Hawaii). The OG musubi was really good; I grew up eating spam so the flavors were familiar to me. Husband liked his spicy chicken musubi. Our toddler was also fan of the musubi (though mostly ate the rice). For starters, ordering here is a really smooth experience. The Kiosks they have designed are pretty fast and convenient to order. Every item has a description of the main ingredients going in it. Service is quick. You can eat there which I recommend doing. The fresher they are consumed the better. You can take them to go as well. Food is bland. As much as I want to write something nice about it, the food is really bland. There is a ton of rice but not enough filling. Whatever filling it has is really bland. If I have to pour a ton of sauce to make something taste like anything then the Musubi itself is not doing a great job. I ordered a ton of food here and none of it was satisfying as far as the taste goes. (Note: this place is located inside Pokeworks) Parking: don't worry. This place is located in a shopping center with Wegmans. So there is a ton of parking space. There will always be parking. Seating: there's indoor seating, about 5 tables. There are some high tables and normal tables with seats. The tables are clean. Food: unfortunately, it was very disappointing. The rice to filling ratio was terrible. They put a little bit of filling and a ton of carbs. It was filled with 30% filling and 70% rice. There was only 4 people in the store, including me and my friend. However, they forgot our order for 30 minutes. Capital Musubi is an interesting restaurant concept with lot of potential but if this is where things stand two years after opening? I wonder if they'll reach their full potential. Let me explain. The food is simple; which means execution must be perfect. Yet the friends I went with all left unimpressed. One whom ordered a rice bowl type dish noted the rice wasn't good (too mushy) and the chicken karaage was heavily breaded. As for my food, I ordered the "Limited Time" Surf n' Turf Musubi combo (with a small 8oz serving of miso soup and a 18oz fountain drink). Which after "tax and fees" cost me $18. My expectations were high, but I can't say they were fully met. The size was fantastic, but the beef patty was under seasoned, the egg seemingly had none either, but the tempura shrimp was admittedly quite delicious. The lightly drizzled Japanese mayo was nice; but I still thought the too many ingredients tasted plain. And the price seemed particularly steep. Also worth noting that orders are done via two kiosks of differing type and size, plus via their mobile app. But when it's time to pick up? It's awkward. Because the app doesn't update in real time when your food is done. Mine was done 10 minutes before my alleged ready to pick up time. Plus there is no digital screen displaying whose food is done either, and finally there was a language barrier with the staff at the register (who handed out food) that made our interaction confusing to the point I thought my food wasn't ready. With regard to the interior, it's fairly simple, but felt clean and I liked the wooden seating. Perhaps it's odd; but I actually do plan to return because I want to try other musubi varieties they sell. The picture really is just for show as the spam didn't go very far down. The chicken teriyaki had very little chicken and I wasn't sure if the order was correct (to the point where I went back to the register to confirm nicely). Service was standard and the area was clean and quite pretty. They have the typical Gen Z grass and neon sign wall, but it's nothing necessarily spectacular. I will say, if they had someone available, I probably would have ordered at the register. it took about 12-15 minutes for them to complete my order. (2) OG Musubi (1) Cali Musubi (1) crab salad onigiri my husband and I each had our own OG musubi which wasn't bad! but it felt like one giant onigiri to me just cut in half. the california roll musubi was exactly like a california roll, no big surprises there. and...our least favorite, the crab salad onigiri. it was ok, but felt like I was eating a lot of rice. the food was ok, wasn't great.
