This was our first stop on our ATL trip as we've been so excited for some dimsum. I'm from Houston so I've been craving a taste of home. Considering the covid situation, I wasn't too optimistic with my expectation. It wasn't too busy when we walked in. I wanted to get seated on the right side of their ballroom since there were less people sitting there but it seemed like they were placing everyone in one section. I thought it must be due to low staffing. We got seated right away and our very friendly server came to us as soon as we got settle. She was amazing! It was entertaining listening to her communicate with a Spanish-speaking group from a table across from us. But, I really think we got lucky with our seats. People sitting closer to the entrance weren't so lucky with service. I kinda felt bad about inhaling our food as I watched them, still waiting to be served. We got our usual pork and shrimp siu mai and pork bbq buns. I noticed that they only have one cart and it's been sitting next to our table even before we came in. Our buns were pretty soggy and the filling was spilling out to the sides. The pork & shrimp siu mai was meh. If there was anything I truly enjoyed during our visit was the hot chili oil. It's more potent that the usual chili oil they have at other asian restaurants. As we were finishing up, I noticed that they started unfolding the partitions that separated the ballroom in two. Mind you, this partition divided the room into two but not equally. The dining area is now limited to a 1/3 of the original dining area. All of us were crammed in there with no regard to social distancing. No tables were off limits. People ended up being back to back from each other. Needless to say, I skipped desserts and hurried off to the front reception area to pay my bill. read more

The xiajiao and shaomai were not great. However, all the other stuff that we tried were just delicious!! They had the best xianzhujuan and luobogao I have had in my life. Fengzhao was spicy and kind of amazing in a unique way. The price was reasonable: $4 for small plates and most of the dishes were small plates. We did not see too many choices for deserts - but on this street, you kind of want to go to a specialized dessert place anyway. read more

Canton House is a staple of Chamblee food scene. Dim Sum is quite popular now a days. Small dishes served in small steamed baskets. Most dishes are small and bite sized that can be eaten with soy sauce and chili paste for spice. The choices can be a bit overwhelming and often when the the dim sum cart passes by you only have so much time to choose what you want if any before they move on. Most options are pretty good and it's always fun to try out new ones. The entire restaurant can accommodate a very large crowd size. The space is often used to accommodate wedding reception so you can get an idea of the size. The one thing about this place I noticed in the last few years is how much more diverse the visitors have become. No longer just a spot for Chinese Americans, all sorts of guest come by now. Definitely more mainstream. For the price and and all the options you can pick. Canton House is where you should go if you want to experience great Dim Sum in Georgia. read more

My family of four and I waited patiently as did several other parties only to be kept waiting as parties of our size were seated before us. Came here per my little brothers recommendation and we were not disappointed! Our eyes were much bigger than our stomach and we took home a bunch of leftovers. We had to try the Peking duck and it was the star of the show. They carve it for you at the table and prepare it on the softest pillowy buns! We left very full and very happy. read more

I've been here for dim sum with a group of friends several times. It feels more legit if you come with someone who speaks Chinese, considering most of the people who work here are Chinese. FOOD: Quite good! Not everything is knock-your-socks-off good, but I really like their deep fried ball things. Not like I know the actual name of what it is. I also really like their Chinese broccoli with garlic! SERVICE: Leaves something to be desired. When I came on MLK day, we had ordered something from the menu but it didn't show up. After about 40 minutes we asked them to cancel the order being that we had slowly gotten more and more dim sum. OVERALL: Good for dim sum, but know that service may not be great. Highlight: this is for the wedding catering menu for those who are looking for a respectable Chinese vendor who can deliver a good meal and are professional to work with. Our wedding had a 10 course banquet that included appetizer, walnut shrimp, lobster, seafood noodle dish, shrimp and crab claws, pudding, pepper and salt chicken, yang chow fried rice, and a 3 mushroom vegetarian dish. Service: We chose this place after shopping at East Pearl, Dragon Pearl, Golden House, Happy Valley- all of them, we were unimpressed with the service, food quality, and professionalism. We were impressed with this place's professionalism. Talk to their small adorable boss- he is approachable and will sit down and hand design a menu for you. We paid 5600$ for our 10 tables which is very affordable. Most American venues are asking for 7000$ when you add in the waiters, china, service, tax, tips and other things. During the wedding, I do think they could have brought a couple of more waitors- bringing out the food wasn't difficult, but dishes definitely did start to pile on tables- at the same time, our venue's tables were a little small. Food: Portions were large and none of our guests were hungry- most couldn't keep up with the pace. There was not a dish that was not touched- they were pretty much a samping of everything- and it was only towards the end, due to guest satiety that the dishes had some leftovers. We were impressed with the quality of the food. Highly recommend this place for large catering. All dishes were well flavored and none wee too salty or over cooked or stale. Canton House serves "dim sum all day, every day" according to the lady I spoke with on the phone. This means until 11pm each night, when they close. The service at my weekend dinner experience here was a complete reversal of my weekend lunchtime dim sum experience. Perhaps it's because I made a reservation and rolled in with a group of 17 hungry people. The manager was expecting us and already had tables set up. Canton House is the Chinese restaurant on Buford Highway with the giant chandelier visible from the road. It's one of the more popular places to get dim sum ITP (inside the perimeter), along with Royal China and Oriental Pearl. What sets Canton House apart from the others is it serves dim sum at night, complete with push carts. The restaurant's dim sum dinner service is an abbreviated version of it's regular lunchtime dim sum service. At nighttime, over half of the restaurant is closed off with movable walls. It appears most of their business comes during the daytime and they don't want the place to feel empty in the evenings. There's not nearly as many carts rolling around and some of the items are subject to availability, such as one of my favorites, the baked BBQ pork buns. If you don't see what you like on the carts, you can always ask one of the servers or managers, and they'll let you know whether or not any are available. We were able to find most of what we wanted. Our large group spanned all sorts of tastebuds, from the uninitiated to the adventurous and experienced. We ended up ordering a smorgasbord of Cantonese cuisine including: Dim sum items: Lo mai gai - sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf Rice noodle rolls with pork and shrimp Cha siu baau - steamed BBQ pork bun Baked bun with mushroom and vegetables Shumai dumplings (pork and shrimp) Jin deui - sesame seed balls with red bean paste inside Menu items: Beef chow fun - wide rice noodles stir-fried with beef Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce Shrimp fried rice Sweet and sour chicken Complimentary: Sweet red bean soup Overall, the dim sum items were decent, even if they'd been sitting out all day. The only ones that were questionable were the rice noodle rolls. They seemed to be a little stale and sticky. The other items were tasty. The cha siu baau were steamed fresh for us. One of my favorite Cantonese dishes is beef chow fun. Canton House's version was pretty good and not overly greasy, as this dish can often be. Highly recommend this one. Chinese broccoli portion size is quite generous. Normally, this dish is served on a plate, but Canton House serves theirs in a large bowl. More volume and quality is on par with the other guys. Crunchy stems. Shrimp fried rice and sweet and sour chicken - typical. Our dinner ended with customary (and complimentary) oranges and sweet red bean soup. While these foods are good at the restaurant, many of them fail as leftovers. The beef chow fun, in particular, doesn't reheat well in the microwave. Service and pricing were excellent. The manager worked directly with our tables and was accommodating to our needs. When it came time to pay, we were able to split our check at the register. Canton House is a Chinese restaurant on Buford Hwy that has been around for as long as I can remember. They host weddings and big parties on the weekend nights, and serve dim sum daily in the mornings. I gave it 3 stars because of the following: Location: it's conveniently located on Buford Hwy, since it has been there forever, everyone knows where it is. However, if you don't, it is near the intersection of Buford Hwy and Beverly Hills Dr. Service: normally, it is decent service. Some of the servers do not know much English, but they know enough to get you the basic fork or napkins, when requested. Food: I think the dim sum is decent. I haven't had any problems with the food there, however, I have had friends that had stomachaches afterwards. Price: I honestly don't know what the price is for any of the dim sum dishes; however, I have a family of 9 people, and usually our total is around $180. That's pretty decent, in my opinion. Overall, Canton House seems to be a favorite with a lot of older Asian people, like my parents, but I honestly prefer the Dim Sum inside of Great Wall Supermarket. read more

Great food, terrible service. When we arrived at 5:25 PM, there was no one else in front of us in line. It took them over five minutes to come and get us. No one was out front. When they seated us, they left three different types of menus, but even though they knew we would have a total of four they did not leave more than one of the main menu. When we first entered I needed to use the restroom so I got tired of waiting and walked back in and took a right where I saw a bathroom over across the room and started heading that direction. Someone then basically cat-called me, a man, and waved at me to come back. His English was so broken that I could not communicate with him. I told him I was trying to go to the restroom and he sent me off in a different direction, but it was all quite rudely done. Trying to get your order done correctly is a major miracle. The food was great. The server was actually a nice person who was doing the best he could do. But when we left and went to pay, initially there were two lines to pay, which quickly shrink to one even as unfortunately a customer with a group of four or five people were engaged in a disagreement with the Check out Register person about their meal. It took more than 10 minutes to resolve this and not once did they offer, until toward the end, to take people by someone else. We were in line waiting to pay for more than 15 minutes. I won't go back. I don't ever write reviews, but this is the second one I've written today. Great food, terrible service. read more

Whenever an out-of-towner asks for the best dim sum restaurant in Atlanta, I oftentimes recommend Canton House. It's not that they have the best, best, best dim sum, or the greatest Chinese food on the planet, but I give them two thumbs up for consistent food and friendly service--the latter of which is hard to come by at many Chinese restaurants. I've never experienced bad service in all the times I've been here, and their employees are quick and helpful. Another plus of Canton House is that they take reservations even for dim sum, which works perfectly for some of our larger gatherings! I've reserved as many as 20 seats here during prime dim sum time with no problems. However, be warned--parking can sometimes be a hassle. Try to carpool if coming with a group! read more

Wonton soup was great without being too salty. The wontons in it were fresh and tasty. The egg roll was meh. The shrimp curry was okay-would not order again. It tasted like it was made the way I make it by using curry cubes versus making it fresh and with a homemade sauce. The dim sum was good, but not all items were hot, which is key to good food. Been coming here since I was a kid! They are always packed on the weekends for brunch, but worth the wait. Always come here for Dim Sum to get the black bean chicken feet, roast pork buns, turnip cakes, black bean beef tripe, and sticky rice in banana leaves. I've been going to this place for sooo many years. Today I was sad. My called prior to make reservations for 10 and when we showed up we still had to wait another 30 minutes because the host kept sitting others before us. She was VERY rude and nonchalant. The waiting area was hot and people could clearly walk out without paying because no one was at the front desk to cash out tickets. Once we sat our server didn't want to attend to us. We actually needed up asking one of the dim sum cart guys and the guy busting tables to help us. It was high noon on a Sunday and there was only 3-4 carts going around. No shumai no steam dumplings no salt and pepper squid. No shrimp on a sugarcane stick. No scallop dumpling. No tofu with ginger. I was sad. The clams had no flavor. The Chinese broccoli was bland. Like the food had no more love. My grandpa was disappointed himself. Hopefully this place shows more love the inspection wasn't so great either. read more

They are OPEN! We've been craving Dim Sum and nobody was open this entire time (the Covid lockdown). After searching for every Dim Sum restaurant in the metro Atlanta area (practically) I found Canton House on Google Maps and gave them a call. They're doing it right, you call in an order and then park in the lot, when you call them to tell them you're there, they will bring your food to you. It's keeping everyone safe and we can get Dim Sum again. Excuse me while I wipe the tears of joy from my cheeks. This may take a while. Thanks, sorry for the delay. The joy though... Okay, the food review (that's what matters right?); the Dim Sum is very very good. Shumai is some of the best around. We usually get a mix of fried and steamed and let me tell you, the flavor is out of this world (and that's not just me jonesing for Dim Sum for the last month plus, it's really really good). Some of the preparation is just lost because it's in a togo container but let's give that a pass, shall we? I go to eat food, not look at it. Parking is easier, since they have a private lot with additional space in the back. Service is spotty. The hostess is great and communicative. Some of the staff, not so much. Ok, word of advice is, don't look at their food score...just walk in and keep moving to the dining room area. I have been coming to this place for about 15 years now and haven't gotten sick once or seen anything that creep'd me out and I'm pretty picky when it comes to things being clean and shiny. Anywho... The selection is large and the quality is above par compared to any of the other places I have eaten Dim Sum at. I eat everything but the Sesame bean paste balls because its just not my thing, but everyone I have been there with thinks they are great. I'm not a fan of tripe or chicken feet, but I have eaten it several times and its good if you like that sort of thing. I got all the way home and called the restaurant and spoke to a Sophia. I explained to her what had occurred, and she said that they did not have anyone delivering food therefore, I got back into my vehicle, came back to the restaurant, and she charged me for an entirely new meal! I was completely appalled after telling several people for two years with no issues this is how I was treated with one mistake from your restaurant... This is where you go for dim sum in Atlanta. They have pretty good food, but other dim sum places are also just lacking (Royal China, Oriental Pearl). Canton House serves dim sum all day, but if you go during non brunch hours, it's not as fresh, and the variety is scarce. There have been times I've questioned if they save food from the previous day, but lately, everything has been okay. I actually prefer to order off the menu with favorites including walnut shrimp, roast duck, and their soups. Service has been a hit or miss, but we've been coming here for years and notice improvements. It can be a nice place for receptions, and they actually do catering in the SouthEast region. They catered my outdoor wedding with reasonable pricing (refunded a noodle dish because it was very sticky). They also have plenty of parking. They were more than happy to help and offered the best customer service a bride could ask for. Canton House and its employees worked with us every step of the way to cater our big day. We had our wedding at Southern Exchange Ballrooms in Atlanta GA. It's not the easiest venue to work with. There were many rules/regulations and even an elevator malfunction, but Peter and his crew did everything in their power to make dinner service run smoothly. They offer flexible menus and are willing to tailor to your needs. In my situation, I had several tables that were vegetarian, an individual who is allergic to onion, and several Korean tables--who can't go without onions! Disclaimer: This review is only for Canton House's weekend morning dim sum service. Canton House has pretty much the best dim sum in Atlanta. Now that's not saying much since dim sum is pretty much what-you-see-is-what-you-get. Carts come rolling by with various small bites that you can order. The food is a little bit too bland for my taste. If you have had one pork shumai, you pretty much have had all of them. The steam buns, dumplings, soup, fried shrimp, various versions of minced pork shrimp and chicken stuffed into gelatinous or glutenous soggy pockets, etc. You get the idea. It becomes quite a bit repetitive and takes a lot of hot chili oil to add any flavor to this. Now it might sound like I'm being really harsh to the restaurant. That's not the case. I'm just saying dim sum is not necessarily the most appetizing idea for brunch for me, personally. However, if you like dim sum, you would find Canton House to be an adequate joint. This is why I give it three stars instead of one star because I feel like even though my experience there is not memorable, it's mostly because I find the food to be lacking in flavor. With one exception: The glorious egg custard tarts! Those things are freaking ridiculous! I like them so much that it's the one item that I did not get a chance to take a picture of cuz I ate them before I could snap one!However if a person likes the food and knew what they were getting into, they're probably appreciate it. Worst Cantonese food and service I've ever had! Food: 1, Value: 1, Service: 1, Atmosphere: 2 My family and I went here on our vacation to Atlanta. My family is Cantonese, so we were really excited to try some of the great Chinese food Atlanta had to offer. We went inside the restaurant for dinner on a weeknight, and it looked like they were preparing for a wedding banquet. There was no hostess out front at the hostess desk so we waited awkwardly there for about 15 minutes unsure if they were open. Staff continually walked past us not saying a word. Finally, as we poked our head into the dining room, one of the servers noticed us and shouted at us across the room to ask how many people we had. We then proceeded to get seated at a table There were dim sum carts rotating around and we got an order of har gow (crystal shrimp dumplings) and steamed pork ribs. The har gow wrapping was sticky, thick and chewy and the steamed pork ribs had almost no flavor or sauce. We decided not to order more dim sum and instead wanted to order from the menu. However, we had no menus. After about 5-10 minutes we flagged down a waitress and asked for menus. We ordered beef chow fun and peking style pork chops. Service was slow and we waited for about 20-30 minutes for our entrees to arrive. The chow fun was full of bean sprouts with not that much meat. The noodles were not very fresh and not flavorful. The peking pork chops were some of the worst we had ever had. The sauce was very sour and the pork chops were clearly overdone and burnt at the edges. There was more breading than pork on these pork chops. Overall, it might be because they were busy preparing for a banquet, but that is not an excuse for neglecting your other customers. Service was bad and the food was even worse. One of the worst dining experiences at a Cantonese restaurant from a family who has eaten Cantonese food all our lives. Will not be returning. read more

In the sad state of Dim Sum affairs in Atlanta, this place is a bright spot for sure. Todd P. and I huddled here for some catch-up time and chit chat, and I gotta say - this place surprised me. Most if not all the shu mai was very good, as were any of the shrimp items (fried or otherwise). I might stay away from some of the more bread-y things like the pork or chicken buns. I've had them many times and this was way too bread-heavy. Atmosphere was excellent, like some of the more classic Dim Sum places I've hit. I didn't like some of the ways they "Americanized" a few of their offerings. I don't want bacon wrapped over a friend glob of chicken. I can save that for Popeye's. (PS: that single dish would make most traditional DS purveyors sad.) Staff was very attentive and even a bit fun, so that box is ticked for me. Very simply, we like this place for the dim sum. It's easy. We can get the dim sum any time. The place is generally clean, parking is generally very easy, and the dim sum is generally tasty. Among our favorites: Sticky rice (wrapped in a lotus or banana leaf) Steamed Shrimp dumplings Steamed Pork BBQ buns (total crowd pleaser) Shumai (pork & shrimp dumpling) I rather like this thing which is some kind of deep-fried shrimp wrapped around a piece of sugar cane. No idea what that's called. It seems clear there is a community of regulars that come to Canton House in the evening hours. Service is generally very quick, and I would be happier if the price points could be a little bit lower. I've only ever been here for dinner. Located at Chamblee, Georgia along Boufard blvd. Was here Sunday noon and seated right away. The place was big and did not like dirty yellow vinyl table cloth. We liked tripe, tofu skin stuffed with shrimp and shrimp rice roll. Texture and skin of Shrimp rice dumpling was not good and sweet rice used for sticky rice wasn't chewy but stuffing was abundant.
