Really enjoyed the modern, nice interior of this place! I walked in with a party of 12 and they were able to seat us right away in one of the private rooms which was nice! They came out with the food in a steady manner - I thought everything was decent, though I'm not big on szechuan food. I felt that the portions were a little small when compared to other family-style chinese restaurants in the area. I was sad/surprised that they were out of the xiao long bao when we came - it was on a saturday around noon, so I wasn't expecting them to be out of food. My one constructive criticism is to maybe serve the green bean jelly dish with either 2 spoons or preferably tongs. It was near impossible to serve it with the one spoon provided. Plenty of free parking in the plaza

This is inside a 3 in 1 concept building. Located to the right side of the building, you have Lao Sze Chuan. Now if you're a Szechuan lover, this is for you. For me, I'm not a big fan, but of course I'm willing to try it out. The food here came out pretty quickly, but it did seem like a slow day that day. Portions are pretty decent. I ordered the regular soup dumplings, but I think the server got us the crab soup dumplings. Either way, still good. It's seasoning of Szechuan is heavy, so again, if you're into that taste go for it. For me, I wasn't a big fan of. The interior is definitely more of a modern feel with random decor especially the neon lights that say "fashion" lol

Lao Szechuan is in a new dining complex that also houses a KBBQ/hot pot restaurant (Kanpai) and a boba/mochi donut spot (Teamo). The interior is super spacious, with a ton of tables and seating and a large bar; the atmosphere is pretty upscale. I'd been to the Chicago locations of Lao Szechuan, so I was excited to hear that they opened another one in Atlanta. The service was prompt, and the menu is truly expansive. For the three of us, we ordered the half-set of Peking Duck, the Tony Chicken with Three Chilis, Sauteed Pigs Feet with Pepper, Stir-Fried Eggplant & Green Beans, and a platter of three Chinese cured meats. It was definitely too much food: We ended up taking a bunch of the Peking Duck and some of the Sauteed Pigs Feet home. All of the food was really good, with the exception of the Tony Chicken, which is marked as spicy but is in fact fried and drenched in a sticky, sweet sauce. (It wasn't bad - just wasn't my preferred flavor profile.) The standout dishes for me were the Sauteed Pigs Feet and the Stir-Fried Eggplant & Green Beans. The Pigs Feet were tender and skillfully de-boned (while leaving the cartilage intact), and the eggplant had a delicious char to it. The Peking duck was also very good. It comes with duck bone soup, which was so delicious we asked for a second helping, and they serve some of the crispy skin by itself, with some sugar that melts into the fat with every bite. Finally, they bring out an impressive platter with the wrap, sauces, cucumber slices & scallions, and succulent slices of duck. It's a genuinely elegant display. Prices are on the higher side, but I do think the quality of the food is top-notch. This is a welcome addition to the neighborhood!

Soup dumplings is my favorite food of all time so I had to try this restaurant. Walking in was a bit confusing because it's set up like 3 shops in one, but the hostess by the door was helpful in guiding us to the correct tables. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing with fancy tables set up and a large screen on the wall that illuminates the room. After looking over the menu, my boyfriend and I ordered the Xiao Long Boa (soup dumplings), the crab soup dumplings, and the braised beef noodle. The noodles came out first so we split that while we waited for the dumplings. It was a soupy noodle dish, which we weren't expecting, but it tasted great nevertheless. When both types of soup dumplings came out, we made sure to ask for extra chili oil and dug right in. The traditional pork soup dumplings were my favorites out of them both, but it was nice to try something different with the crab version. Since the restaurant was closing soon, we quickly asked for a couple to go containers and paid the bill. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for good soup dumplings in the area.

The fish maw soup was probably the worst I've ever tasted. There was no crabmeat inside either. There was no flavor at all! The kung chicken consisted of really soggy soft chicken and it wasn't salty or spicy. The cabbage dish was the only dish we enjoyed. We brought the poor tasting food to our waiters attention and she pretended like she did not know what we were trying to ask for. Also wasn't sure who our waiter was. We tried to flag someone down our bill and boxes and water refills but she kept going off to look for someone else to attend to our table. Overall, I really don't recommend this spot for authentic Chinese food.

Came on a quiet Thursday evening for dinner with several friends. The front is shared with Tea'mo and Kanpai as is the host. There was no seating in the waiting area but we were seated in the restaurant as soon as I was ready. The server explained the specials at the top of ordering and it influenced our overall order. We split 5 entrees and two app/snacks. The Cumin beef was excellent as was the lobster with chili and garlic (although a little small). The surprise was the Dan Dan noodles which was excellent and good sized for being $10. I would skip the home style tofu and the dry spice pork with cauliflower. The Peking duck was decent but I wouldn't get it again given value (size, price, and taste). Overall it was a good meal. Ambience was quiet and intimate since we were one of maybe 6 tables the entire time we were there. Service and attentiveness was good too. Price was a little high on average but worth trying overall.

Some of the best Chinese we've had in Atlanta! Staff was friendly and attentive and good was delicious. They were running a special with a free lobster when $120 was spent and it was a very nice addition! We can't wait to come back!

Really enjoyed the Peking Duck and eggplant with garlic sauce! Peking Duck comes with a nice soup broth and crispy skin served separately. It's a bit on the pricier side, but that's to be expected given the nicer ambiance and customer service. They also have private rooms for larger parties. We also liked being able to get high quality boba with our meal from Te'Amo. We will be back to try out Kampai for bbq and hot pot!

The dishes are quite average, not unpalatable, but not delicious either. Among these dishes, I actually think the most delicious is the stir-fried vermicelli with cabbage.

Brand new 3-in-one dining on Buford Hwy. Beautifully decorated interior. We primarily went for the Peking Duck are were disappointed to learn they did not have it that day. The pork liver was good quality but we expected it to be spicer. The crab xio long bao was good. We ordered two Szechuan dishes but we expected those to be spiced and more flavorful. They were actually out of several dishes that we wanted. Our server was very nice and helpful, though! I hope to come back to a full menu soon.

We were a party of 5 and found both the food and the service to be inconsistent. The Food: Most dishes were mediocre or worse. The Three Cups Chicken (1/5) was the worst I've ever had. The Hong Kong Style Shrimp (1/5) was just bland, tasteless fried shrimp. The Lamb with Scallion (2/5) was far too salty. The only "average" dish was the Spicy Beef and Tendon (3/5), but one decent dish can't save a meal this poor. The Service & Billing: The service was quite slow during our visit. We waited a long time for the check and eventually ended up packing our own leftovers and heading to the front counter to pay so we could head out. I was also surprised to see an automatic 20% gratuity added to the bill, especially since it was calculated on the total after tax ($23.07 tip on a $106.80 subtotal). While I understand automatic tips for groups, it felt a bit high due to poor services. There are a lot of great dining spots in the area, but based on this disappointing visit, I'm sure I would not return to this one.

The whole setup is like a mini food hall with several authentic Chinese spots to choose from--but Chong Qing is where I landed. I ordered the crispy chicken with garlic sauce and swapped the white rice for a side of house lo mein (yes, it's an upcharge, but worth it). Everything came out on real dishes--not to-go boxes--which I loved. You order and pay at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. Now let's talk about the food... DELICIOUS. The spice level was just right--flavorful with a nice kick, but not overpowering. If you like it hotter, you can definitely add more heat, but I was perfectly satisfied as is. The lo mein was really good too--veggies were fresh with a nice crisp (those onions and carrots were hitting!), and everything tasted well-balanced. Only small note: I wish there was a little more meat in the dish, but it didn't take away from the overall experience. And let me say this--the portion size is VERY generous. I ate until I was full and still had just as much left to take home, which is always a win in my book. All in all, I'll definitely be back to try more. If you're in Chinatown Market and not sure what to pick, Chong Qing Hot Pot is a solid choice. 4/5 stars for me!

My only issue: inconsistent filling. I've been back for the dumplings specifically, and some days... they'd be rather light. It was quite disappointing to have a dumpling that's 70% wrapper, and I should've taken a pic honestly... but it still tasted good (oop). The other food options are pretty good too, except the curry, which I found ok at best. It was kind of bland in comparison to everything else I tasted. Not actually "Szechuan Spicy" as it states and the curry was a little thin. If something says mala though, believe it... to a degree. Not as tongue numbing as others I've had, but you can still feel it. OH! You have to pay for your rice though. It does not come with and is $2 for each bowl you want. Never before have I had to pay for steamed white rice, but ig it's a first for everything. Dining in here is a bit similar to ordering take away. You have to scan a QR for the table to place your order, which you pay for ahead of time, before your food is made and brought out to you. There isn't much service besides someone getting you a drink. I don't think it's really worth sitting down and eating there, and if you wanted food here, I would only truly recommend the dumplings like I was.

When we arrived, I realized the location used to be the old Hong Kong Supermarket -- only longtime locals would probably remember that. The layout inside was pretty interesting. There was a Te'amos milk tea shop in the middle, Lao Szechuan on the right, and the hot pot & BBQ restaurant on the left. The staff greeted us warmly and quickly helped us get seated. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was that they offered freshly made milk teas and fruit teas instead of bottled drinks. The drinks were decent and refreshing, especially for balancing out the richness of the meal. Each person gets their own mini hot pot, which I really liked because everyone could customize their own soup base and ingredients. We chose a variety of broths including mushroom, spicy mala, tomato, and herbal soup. Using the iPad ordering system, we basically ordered one of everything from both the hot pot and BBQ menus. The food came out surprisingly fast, and they even used robots to deliver dishes to the table, which was smooth and efficient. For hot pot, my personal favorites were the fatty beef slices, lamb, beef tripe, black tripe, tofu skin rolls, squid flowers, enoki mushrooms, corn, lotus root slices, kelp knots, fish balls, and beef tendon balls. Everything tasted great with the broth and my favorite sesame dipping sauce. On the BBQ side, the standout items for me were the cumin lamb, beef tongue, chicken cartilage, short ribs, and squid. We weren't exactly BBQ experts, so some meats weren't cooked perfectly, but the flavor was still really enjoyable -- and the best part was that you could keep ordering as much as you wanted. Honestly, for around $40 per person, it felt like a very good value. My parents both thought it was worth the price. We left full and satisfied, and the service was always attentive whenever we needed something. We had it changed to a clean one, but when we were handed the tablet to order, this was also covered in grease/oil. The bathrooms and sauce bar were clean, but at the table I was not satisfied. Admittedly this location is in need of a DEEP clean and a major facelift. It's like stepping into a vintage time capsule. But hey, at least there's yummy food inside. Considering that, the prices do not really match the ambience at all in my opinion. However it seems they might have a big staff to support, especially those who make their dumplings and noodles from scratch. I'll pay a lil extra at a takeout spot for the food quality because it's certainly there. The staff has been pleasant enough, which is a nice plus. The pork buns are a great mouthful (I prefer steamed). Same for the soup dumplings. Unmatched in the texture of the dough. I've tried their hand-pulled noodles in a soup as well as a stir-fry and they certainly held their own. The noodle consistency is incredibly dreamy, so much so it has become a craving in my household. I don't like the beef they use as it can be a bit dry but the flavor is really nice. Nothing has been salty so far and the flavor profile is always robust. Numbing spice on deck. Again, the food is a hit. Where this place falls short is appearance and service. It just feels stuck in another century, and not in an endearing way. I ate here once, saw the condition of the restaurant and the health score, and settled on the blissful ignorance of takeout from thereon. The parking lot is rough and an eyesore. Yes, we call it a "hole in the wall" -- it's literally in the basement of an optician and not the flashiest place you'll ever see. But don't judge a book by its cover. The quality of the food is far beyond what the exterior suggests. This is our one and only go-to spot when we need a true Chinese food fix in Atlanta. Simple, no-frills, and all about the food. It's not trendy or polished -- and that's part of the charm. You're here for authentic, bold flavors, not fancy decor. Service is pretty solid, even with the occasional language barrier or when the person hand-making dumplings steps away for a break. Even during peak busy times on previous visits, they've handled things well. One thing we learned the hard way: don't ask them to modify dishes. On a past visit, we asked for a change and they refused to preserve authenticity -- and honestly, I respect that 100% now. Lesson learned: trust the chef and learn to handle the spice! This place is all about explosive, authentic flavors. Our usual star is the Spicy Griddle Cooked Fish Fillet with potato chips, carrot chips, lotus root, and purple yam. It's a full-on flavor bomb -- numbing Sichuan peppercorn heat, bold spice, and perfect for sharing. Absolute showstopper. The Twice Cooked Pork Belly with Cabbage is my new favorite -- juicy, succulent pork paired with crunchy cabbage and an incredible sauce. Just phenomenal. The Black Pepper Beef was flavorful, though this time it leaned a bit heavy on green peppers and lighter on the beef. Still tasty, just slightly unbalanced. The Egg Fried Rice complemented everything beautifully -- and best of all, it wasn't oily. And the Lamb & Zucchini Dumplings? Worth every minute of the wait. Handmade and packed with flavor -- another absolute winner. We can't wait to go back. This is the kind of place you proudly take out-of-town guests -- they'll be blown away and talking about it the rest of their trip. Northern China Eatery never disappoints.
