Eight years after my initial review, Mamak remains our family's favorite spot. I believe the restaurant has changed hands at least once, but the food quality, ambiance, and portion sizes have remained consistent. Prices have increased since my last visit (of course), but they're still quite reasonable. The service is exceptional! We always enjoy chatting with Jojo and Chloe when we're there. These two ladies are incredibly friendly and helpful. My parents visit so frequently that Jojo already knows their orders without them having to say a word lol. You never have to wait long; our orders come out one dish after another very quickly. This hidden gem is tucked away in the same plaza as Sweet Hut on Buford Hwy. At first glance, the restaurant is small and cozy, and there were plenty of people in there (a great sign). My group had 5 people, so we had to wait a bit to get seated, but the staff was able to navigate that really well. The food was delicious! I got the Beef Chow Fun Ho, and for an appetizer, I got the roti and the curry. I would highly recommend both! The roti was flaky and soft- it paired so well with the curry. The beef chow fun was good as well, but it tastes better with this chili sauce (it could be it was seasoned just fine and my taste buds are dead from all the spice I eat). That sauce elevated the flavors even more. The prices were fairly priced for what you get, and I will say, though, if you come with a group of 5 or more, they will charge you a 20% tip automatically. Mamak has been on my list for a while rn, so headed over to try this popular Malaysian spot on a Saturday evening. It was quite crowded so we put down a spot on the waitlist. The wait wasn't too long and we got seated fairly quickly. It is a bit crammed in there and gets noisy ofc since the tables are quite close to each other. We ended up getting their curry puff pastry and Kari fish fillet that comes with rice. Both of the dishes were absolutely delicious! Explosion of flavor, not as spicy as I would have liked but overall great! There were so many other dishes that I wanted to try but their menu is large and love that they label what are in the dishes. We got the food very quickly and overall glad I tried the spot. This complex gets quite busy as it is in the Sweet Hut plaza so be prepared to look for parking and there are some spots tucked away in the back. read more

Kids and I came on a Saturday for an early dinner. We were seated promptly and served a cool container of water right away. We ordered the roti canai with one extra pancake, the haianese chicken with coconut rice, dry fried green beans, mango chicken, and the chow kway teow. My son thought the coconut rice and mango chicken were amazing. I loved the green beans and chow kway teow. Daughter liked the roti canai and the Havanese chicken with spicy sauce served on the side. Prices have definitely gone up, but I love this place -- honestly, it's just that good. I don't even think about the price:quality:quantity ratio because the food wins every time. I can't really speak much about cleanliness, but overall, it's a solid spot. Service can be hit or miss; they'll take care of you, but it's not always warm or welcoming. The food, though, is consistently excellent. I've never had a poor experience here -- the flavors are always balanced, seasoned perfectly, and cooked just right. I've tried a wide range of dishes, and this is one of the rare places where I genuinely want to try everything on the menu. It's almost like I'm looking for a dish that falls short, but I haven't found one yet (maybe I've just been lucky). Even though I no longer live in Georgia, I make a point to come back whenever I visit home for the holidays. It's also a go-to for bringing visitors because it's never disappointed me. I do warn friends about the service beforehand, but the food more than makes up for it. I'm docking one star for service and ambiance, but the flavors are a solid 5/5. read more

Curry Noodle Soup (laksa) with seafood - not bad but disappointed in the broth, more on the liquid side than thick and rich. The seafood was nice and tender and had a good variety though. Wish there were toppings like fish balls and tofu. Hainan chicken rice - pretty good but first time having the chicken be warm rather than room temp or cold. Garlic rice was fragrant and portion was huge, you can order 1/4 or 1/2 chicken and we accidentally got half lol Kari fish fillet - our fave main dish!! The curry was so flavorful and rich, lots of tender white fish and filled with a good variety of veg. Def would get again. Overall a great restaurant to get Malaysian food! My wife ordered CHOW KWAY TEOW （炒粿條）and I ordered CURRY LAKSA (咖喱麵). both were very good and tasty. For the fried noodle I liked the chewy noodle, but the squid part was little hard to chew; I liked my Laksa soup, which was creamy and right amount of spicy, but the noodle can be better. We started off with the Roti Canai (worth the hype), Mamak Fried Wonton, & their Curry Wonton Soup! Everything was simply amazing. Very bold packed flavors. For our main dish we ordered the Nasi Lemak with spare ribs as our choice of meat and not onlyyyyyy is the presentation a beauty, everything on this plate was a 10/10! Thai Tea & Chinese Herbal Tea Was Also Amazing! Customer service was outstanding! It's been a minute since i've had delicious Malaysian food so when I saw great reviews on Yelp, I became quite excited to try this place out. They have a blackboard with the specialties written out. So we decided to try out the four items that were written out. Roti Canai, Hainanese Chicken, curry lasagna and an okra dish. Don't be fooled by the small interior because this restaurant comes with big flavors! My friend and I decided on the roti canai, curry puff, mango chicken, and rendang beef. Both the mango chicken and rendang beef had a good balance of protein and vegetables. The mango chicken was out of this world! The curry in the rendang beef was spot on, and the beef was very tender. Prices are fair. These four dishes totaled to around $60. My only complaint is that they were a bit disorganized while the restaurant was busy and did not have any system of keeping track of which parties arrived first. This caused some confusion, and I ended up getting seated much later than what I was told. Other than this, I'd be happy to come back for more of their dishes. I had heard a lot of great reviews about Mamak so I was looking forward to coming here. I got there with my friends on a random weekday and it was pretty empty, so we were seated quickly. The restaurant is not too spacious inside, so it can probably feel a little loud and tight if there are a lot of people dining in. I ordered the Beef Chow Ho Fun while my friends ordered the Nasi Lemak and Chef Special Stir Fried Noodles. Our dishes came out fairly quickly. I love beef chow fun because it is a dish that I often order at dim sum restaurants, so I wanted something familiar. I thought that their Beef Chow Ho Fun was just alright. It was nothing spectacular to me and I feel like I have had better beef chow fun at dim sum restaurants. I think there was a lack in flavor. However, I know that my friends really liked their dishes. Food had decent flavors but minimal veg options. They also don't offer tofu that isn't fried in some dishes (I asked if I could have steamed tofu in a curry dish but it wasn't possible). The flavors were fine but I get the sense that it is made in batches and not very fresh based on how quickly the food came out and lack of modification ability. I wanted desperately to have some amazing food here. Being from Singapore - this food felt like home. The chicken fried rice was fantastic , no faults there however the lor mee was bland and nothing like you would get back in Malaysia or Singapore. Solid visit at Mamak on a Tuesday evening. This restaurant had been on my list for some time, and when my cousin (whose mother is Singaporean and who has been to Singapore many times) came to visit, I knew I couldn't miss the opportunity to have him guide us on what to order. The menu can be a little overwhelming if you are not versed in the cuisine. Unfortunately, I'd had a root canal earlier that day... but fortunately, many options here for soft foods! From what was ordered from the table, I was only able to eat the satay skewers which were overcooked/tough and the preserved egg rice porridge, which I think actually soothed not only my mouth but also my soul. My cousin was very complimentary of the Hainanese Chicken which he said was better than Food Terminal but not as good as in Singapore. He and my bf also shared a noodle dish which they liked, but that could have been spicier. Inside, the restaurant is no-frills and quite small, so I can see how there would be a wait especially on the weekends. Another reviewer noted that the food came out so quickly that it made us question the freshness... but ultimately, we still enjoyed what we ate, so it doesn't really matter. The server was efficient but didn't offer much in the way of hospitality... on the contrary, she brought the bill while we were still eating, and it wasn't anywhere close to closing (nor was there a wait) which was a bit strange.
