OUTSTANDING customer service & EVEN BETTER FOOD. I am gluten free and lactose intolerant, so majority of the time I cook for myself and avoid local restaurants because I always have to ask so many questions. I can't cook while traveling... I didn't get her name but a woman here was sooo helpful with my order. She was happy to answer all my questions, explained how the mains & sides were prepared and EXACTLY what ingredients are used. I ordered Cilantro Chicken with a side of green beans, fried rice and fajita vegetables. Chef's kiss. Chicken is moist inside with a delicious smokey grilled outside. The green beans are fresh & garlicky. This food is SO flavorful, perfectly seasoned, delicious and fits into my health goals. It sat well in my stomach. I will be back again, and suggest you try it.
Here just for the night and I remembered that the last time I was here it was sooo good. And today didn't disappoint me!!!! My chicken was soooo tender and juicy, the cilantro rice was fresh and the beans were good too. Everything was really good!! I wished my mango juice was a little colder but it was delicious as well. Anytime I'm close by here for the evening, I'm coming here hands down!!!!!!
Really good chicken and sides for a decent price! Stopped in this afternoon to grab dinner for tonight. First time here and the gentleman behind the counter was nice and helpful when I asked which rice to get. We ordered the following: The 1/2 chicken meal with two sides plus we ordered an extra side. First off the chicken nice and juicy. There was plenty of chicken for the two of us. We ordered the fried rice, the pinto beans and plantains, and all were delicious, Generous servings of all the sides. We tried both their green sauce which is the hot sauce and the white sauce. I can't handle heat but my husband said the green sauce was good and flavorful. The white sauce had a little kick but also good flavor. There is plenty of seating inside and I do think everyone orders at the counter and walks through the line but we were the only ones there, so I'm not positive. Great tasting food and parking is easy in the lot.
My son and I got take out and it was ready fast, the people were very friendly, and the food was delicious! I'm gluten-free and egg-free due to health concerns and it is so wonderful to have places to go that have great options! I ordered Chicken Cilantro with Green Rice and Green Beans. Yum!
The food is always soooo good! The chicken cilantro with fried yuca and green rice is my go-to and never disappoints. I ask for extra sauces too. My only gripe is that my order has never been remotely ready when I have placed orders in advance. Each time I have had to wait 15-20 minutes after I arrive at the expected time. I see other people pick up their orders just fine so maybe it's specific to the chicken cilantro?
Visiting Richmond, heard great things about this spot, so you know I had to give it a try. First glance it reminds me of a certain restaurant chain in MD called "Sardis". I love the fact they have unique things I don't see often in Peruvian cuisine such as the "Green Rice" & Anticucho De Corazon (my first time having both of these and the flavor profit was delightful!) The prices and quantity of food was modest. The quality was superb! The Peruvian flavor was kickin up spice. The wait time wasn't long and you can call your order in if you wanted to jus pick and go. All in all very nice restaurant, nice experience, & most importantly I will be back lol .
I ordered the special Brochetas (chicken kabobs) with plantains and rice & beans. $12.50. Spouse got the steak quesadilla $10.00 with fried rice and black beans $3.00. The steak quesadilla tasted great. Brochette de pollo. The food was delicious. I loved every bite of my chicken. It was very tender and well seasoned. I don't need the sauce that comes with it. But I did use some simply because I had it. I did mix the sauce into the fried rice and black beans. I as usual had left overs. But I had to have some of my fried bananas. They are so good, sweet and perfect. I consider them dessert. My favorite. It is fun to watch the rotisserie with all the chickens turning. This is self serving. You wait on line to order. When ready they do bring the food out to you
Passing through a found this awesome Peruvian restaurant in a strip mall. The outside looked a bit sketchy but the food makes up for the scare. When you walk in you can smell the deliciousness of the food and it made me stay. There is a lot of food to mull over and since I'm about the chicken, I choose the half bird, dark meat. The two sides were a bit of confusion since other places call fried plantain, tostones, and these fried plantains are what I would call, Maduros, sweet plantains. Either way, they were great, nice and warm and not too sweet. The other side was the rice and beans, which came with the chicken fried rice and black beans which were also great. To top it off I had the tress leches dessert and it was wet and creamy, just a great dessert. Although this could have gotten a 5 star, it lacked a good fountain drink option and there were no place to get extra napkins and utensils. It could be the location but it was well worth the price. Also they do offer a military discount, and I salute them for that.
I ordered the 1/2 of chicken with the red potatoes, green beans, and fried plantains. Friendly service, flavorful chicken, and clean and cultured restaurant. After a long day this was definitely a great fill up and a really lovely lunch. I believe it's still a popular business in its location so I hope the community continues to supports!
The building is unassuming but the food was EXCELLENT!! I order the half chicken with green beans, maduros, green rice along with a house salad. The service was quick. Everything was delicious!! The chicken was well seasoned and juicy, even though I didn't need them, the sauces were the perfect accompaniment. The sides were great, I loved the rice. I couldn't recommend it enough. Worth every penny!
Came here for a quick dinner with one of my good friends before driving home to Hampton Roads and it really hit the spot. Canastas Chicken really does Peruvian chicken right. Ordering is really easy as most everything here is served cafeteria style. You just go down the line and tell them what you want. I ordered a 1/2 white meat chicken meal with fried rice and mixed vegetables. Omg that chicken was so flavorful and juicy it made me wanna slap my momma! I also loved that their fried rice has egg in it and that their vegetables were seasoned; furthermore, the ají amarillo and ají verde sauces really bought the flavor of the whole meal together once I put them on top of the rice and vegetables. Overall, Canastas Chicken is everything ... dare I say better than Chicken Fiesta? You have to check it out for yourself if you ever find yourself in the Richmond / Henrico area. read more

I ordered the two chicken meal and a couple other items to feed 8 people. It was just about the exact right amount. The chicken was so good. Flavored so well with tantalizing skin! The sides were all pretty good. Some people liked the green sauce on the side. Some liked the yellow sauce on the side. I don't really know what they are but I liked the spicier green sauce. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food a lot. If I was ever in Richmond and staying near the airport I would definitely get this food again!!! When I got home I immediately had to figure out if there was a Peruvian restaurant anywhere near by. Hopefully their rotisserie chicken is as good!!! read more

SOOO happy I found this place! Their food is delicious and hits all the right spots! Through delivery services, I ordered 1/4 dark meat with fried plantains and fried yuca as well as 2 empanadas. The chicken was juicy and quite delicious with well-seasoned spices. The accompanying sauces, however, brought it to another level!! The green sauce was cilantro/jalapeno based with just a kick of spiciness that went really well with the meat. Not sure what the yellow sauce was made out of but it was on more of the sour cream/mayo-y side. Its creaminess also complemented the chicken! The fried plantains were very sweet and nicely fried. It was my first time having yuca and I enjoyed it while dipping in the sauces. I appreciate the generous serving of meat and sides they provided. The empanadas were also delicious! Because of the process of delivery, the empanadas weren't as crispy but you can tell they prepared it fresh and hot cause the box kinda melted haha! The filling was moist with gooey cheese and tasty chicken bits. Next time I'd definitely try some of their other meat dishes! read more
Hidden gem!!! I typically don't drive by this area so thanks yelpers.I love Peruvian Chicken sooo I just had to try it and the food looked sooo good. The trip was sooo worth and I was stuffed. The inside was very clean and spacious with booths along the wall and tables in the middle. I was really surprised to see such a variety and a very large menu. If you get the house chicken you can pick white meat or dark meat. The meal came with two sides. I am a rice lady and the fact that they had 4 diff types was right up my ally. I went with the green rice cause I've never tried it before. I have yet to see green rice on a menu except at Tazza kitchen. The green beans were flavorful and perfectly cooked mixed with grilled onions. The plantains were caramelized and soft but not overly sweet. The owner was nice enough to give me a lil sample. The side salad was so fresh and had loads on veggies. Try all the sauces it's seriously so good. They have like 4 diff salad dressings which doubled as delicious dipping sauces. I could seriously go on and on! I love Chicken fiesta but this is on a new level. The options are endless and the sauces are killer. If you wanna try something new or in the area GO! They also have shrimp, pork chops, carne asada, empanadas,salmon and so much more. Prices are very affordable and portions are HUGE. Staff is very friendly and kind. The owner( I believe he was at least) even gave us extra dressings and gave us a takeout menu. read more

The location is within a strip mall but so glad I stopped by to eat here! Inside were about 10 each of tables and booths to sit down and eat, but many people were there to order and take out. I ordered the 1/4 chicken with green rice (cilantro rice) and fried plantains. The flavor on the chicken was excellent and the sauces were a great addition. The cilantro rice tasted great and the plantains were good, although they typically are not something I would order, I am glad I had them. I had the passion fruit for my drink and it was simply from a bulk juice container and although great taste was just simply OK. I also tried the Alfajor for desert and it was a great way to finish the meal! read more

I called in my order for pick up. In the 15mins it took to drive there is was ready! I got to lomo saltado because i was craving some. It was delicious! The steak was tender and flavorful. I liked that it had onions, peppers, tomatoes in it for the sauce. The fries & rice were good, great compliments to the flavorful steak. Will definitely be back! read more

Canastas has become a go-to spot for us if we're not in the mood to cook during the week. As with most of the Peruvian spots I've been to, the rotisserie chicken is so moist. Sides, too, are typical of what I've seen at other Peruvian restaurants (our favorites are the green beans and fried rice). We've come to prefer ordering the anticucho de pollo (which is served deboned on a stick) so we don't have to pick thru bones. Just keep in mind if you're not ordering off the main rotisserie menu then it takes a bit longer since it's made to order. read more

Goodbye chicken fiesta, hello Canastas!! We've been wanting to try this place for a while when a friend of ours said "yes! Do it, and make sure you get the green sauce". And oh how we did! Their menu is average sized, with healthier options, good descriptions and plenty of delicious sides to choose from. The food was just absolutely perfect. Chicken cooked and seasoned so beautifully. The fried yuca! Plantains! The staff was working hard but the woman we spoke to when picking up was very pleasant! Go check it out for yourself! Get the green sauce! read more

Amazing little gem not too far from the Richmond airport. Stumbled upon this place as i was our walking around. Very impressed. Authentic Peruvian vittles. Huge portions and super tasty. Wasn't cheap for a cafeteria style lunch. But, what is inexpensive these days? Definitely recommend if you are in the area. read more

I love the food here and the staff are great! I found this place when I was waiting for a ride from Richmond airport a few months ago and now, it's a go-to place to visit when I am in the area. I am pescatarian so I always get the fish. It's cooked and flavored perfectly. The maduros are amazing as well and the rice is impeccable. Friday, 18.11.02: So last night I got a jones on for their Go Greek Salad. When I got to the store I also wanted to try something new, so I ordered -- to go -- the Pork Chops (2 Fresh center cut pork chops marinated and charbroiled to perfection. Served with choice of 2 sides.) with French Fries and Red Potatoes. And two Go Greek Salads. (I wanted to hole up for the weekend with good food.) This time I did eat the French Fries first, and they were still wilty. Good flavor, however, and I stopped at half. Then the Pork Chops. Slightly larger than average; very flavorful with little waste. Experimenting a bit, I spread a bit of the Yellow Sauce on it. Very good. Same for the Green Sauce. I'd love to do the Pork Chops again. Then the Go Greek Salad. Only wanted to eat half. I've raved before about the GGS, but this time the vegetables were chopped too coarsely for my taste, so I had to chop them further. The vegetables (tomatoes, cukes, black olives, lettuce, red onions, red & green bell peppers) were all fresh and flavorful. A good amount of feta, and that awesome dressing. I'll be savoring the rest of the salads all weekend. It's the wilty French Fries and the coarseness of the veggies in the Go Greek Salads that prevent me from giving 5 stars again. After-notes: When I pulled the Pork Chops clam shell out of the bag, I was struck with how heavy it was. So I weighed it, and it was over 2 ponds of food! Just for grins, I also weighed 1 of the Go Greek Salads... it weighed about 19 ounces. read more

In between smacking my lips, and trying to fend off my post lunch nap, I have to tell you guys why I'm officially riding the Canasta wagon! I'm new to the area, and the only thing reminiscent of Peruvian chicken that I've had is Chicken Fiesta. If you haven't eaten at Chicken Fiesta, or have and don't understand my sorrow, then you won't understand how happy I was to find this place. It's in a pretty nondescript location; a drab strip mall off of Laburnum. If you frequent that area, chances are that you probably missed it. Based on Yelp reviews alone is how I decided to try it out. Completely blown away! I got the 1/4 chicken with cilantro rice and Peruvian beans (basically pintos), and fried plantain...for $7.50. The amount of food that they gave me was redunculous - easily enough for two meals. They were generous with the sauces, and super friendly. Everything was seasoned to perfection, and I was half way through my piece of chicken before I remembered that I had sauce. Yes, y'all. It was THAT good! Will be back - OFTEN! read more

This place is so authentic and great! Portion sizes are more than enough for a great price. Chicken skin was crispy and meat was very moist and delicious. The white sauce is a wonderful flavor that pairs so well with the chicken! The plantains are super crispy. One plate is a good share size for a nice lunch. Try it! read more

This is amazing, to finally find a delicious peruvian spot in richmond..I brought my family that was visiting to here, we are Peruvian and even though the people in the kitchen werent Peruvian. THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. It is clean, comforting and just so.many amazing options I will start witch the ceviche(cebiche) de pescado. The fish is fresh and did not seem frozen at all. It was amazing. Perfectly seasoned, so delicious. We went crazy for it. The only thing is that the yam seemed sweet so may have been a candied yam but it was still delicious. We tried a bit of the chicken to just try it was rotisserie chicken to percection. So damn good! I can see why everyone would like it. The sauces are amazing really fresh and you can tell they use real aji amarillo. We loved it. The salmon with the anticuchaera sauce is phenomenal. Like I have never tried it before on fish and I was in heaven. I chose some huancaina sauce on it and it paired heavely. Like damn this is a must try it is so delicious. They make amazing huancaina sauce which is a cheese sauce made will yellow hot peppers and they did not disappoint. My boyfriend ate their pasta de huancaina sauce and it was out of this world paired with their lomo saltado. He is a vegetarian so he had it just with veggies but it was amazing they know how to make the sauces. It was so flavorful and made deliciously. Their green beans are amazing the salad is delicious. They give amazing portions. Will be coming here again. The prices are expensive but seriously it's worth it because it's hard to find delicious food around these parts. My family when they visit will be coming here again to try more off the menu. So good!!! And huge spot, oh also their drinks maracuya they make in house. It is EPIC sweet though! Love it read more

Tried the bowl with chicken for only $10.95 and it was delicious! Generous portions, and you could watch them cook the chicken so you know it's fresh. The fried rice was delicious and a nice touch but the green rice was good too. Staff was friendly and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed it so much! read more
