My family and I came here to celebrate my dad's birthday and we left feeling full, jovial, and totally planning our next trip back.
We do not mess around when it comes to eating so we pretty much ordered 95% of the menu. We started with the chicken liver mousse crostini, baby octopus, mozzarella di Bufala, porchetta, and focaccia w/ butter + anchovies. I need to note that everything we got came with an incredible brioche type bread that was perfect for dipping and soaking. The octopus was extremely tender, like you could cut it with a fork level tender. After we finished the octopus we used the bread to mop up all remaining evidence of tomato sauce, and contemplated ordering just a bowl of it on the side (we didn't...this time). The chicken liver mouse was light and airy but rich in flavor and paired perfectly with the vinsanto jelly. The mozzarella di Bufala was similar in texture to burrata, aka creamy and luscious. I wish the tomatoes were maybe roasted for just a tad longer but that's the dumbest and most insignificant of complaints I had the entire dinner. I know some people are weird with anchovies but I am not soooooo we ended up ordering a second round of foccacia w/ anchovies. I can't stress this enough, THEY WERE OUT OF CONTROL DELICIOUS. Just little morsels of salty, buttery goodness. I miss them.
Onto the pizza.
We got classic Margherita, not so classic Tartufo, and to top it off we got the Acciughe which also comes with anchovies.. My favorite was definitely the Tartufo, which came with asparagus, mozzarella and black truffle oil and shavings. It was was a perfect harmony of flavors, and the black truffle was an excellent addition with out over powering the other ingredients. The Margherita was just textbook perfect. The sauce was simple and you tasted the sweetness of the tomatoes, the saltiness of the cheese, and finished with the pop of brightness from the basil. The crust had a good nice crunchy exterior and perfect chewy interior. I'd build a very delicious house from it if I could.
Then we ordered some pasta.
The Carbonara, Cacio e Pepe, and the Cannelloni. The Cacio e Pepe was finished table side inside a giant ass wheel of Parmesan. It was a great share with the table, every twirl of the form had the perfect zest of pepper on it and cheese. The Carbonara was delicious as well but the real MVP in my eyes was the Cannelloni. It was stuffed with roasted lamb, artichokes and baked in a delicious creamy bechamel sauce and topped with cheese. Holy Crap. The nutmeg in the sauce put the whole dish just over the edge for me. This is a rich dish don't get me wrong, but god damn will you sleep like a baby after eating it. Order it, share it, and I promise you will not regret it...like pinky promise.
Oh you thought we were done.
Nope.
We also ordered the goat. Oh you never had goat before? Come here and let them pop your goat cherry it will be an experience you won't forget. It was tender AF, gamy, and succulent just how goat should always taste. Served with rosemary potatoes and wilted chicory (prolly the only healthy thing i put into my body all night). We ordered dessert too cause you know, why the hell not. Panna Cotta with honey and mint and a sumptuous pistachio olive oil cake to end the madness that was dinner. Everyone who worked there was so friendly, hospitable, and generous with their time and suggestions. 7 Russians at one table is a lot so i thank them for their patience. read more
