Very poor impression of the service department. The rep (Brian) was rather ignorant of automotive technology and when I called him on it, he got very emotional, defensive and even walked away while I was trying to talk to him. I spoke to the service manager (Todd) and he simply tried to justify the behavior with claims of staff having a heavy workload. I was extremely disappointed by their lack of professionalism and bad attitudes. My mistake was not checking yelp first. I presume this company is due for a staff overhaul. read more

First time I've ever been to a car dealer where you're ignored. Tons of people in the tiny showroom but no love for new car buyer, not even initial questions. They were serving themselves cake and talking amongst themselves. I mentioned I was there to buy a new car to a blonde receptionist then she asked if I had an appointment. I didn't know you needed an appointment to go look at cars. She offered to give me a brochure and I told her I can just look on the Internet. One word - trustworthy. I purchased my 2016 Forester at at different dealership several years ago as this location did have the turbo model I was looking for, however, this location is closest to my home so I've always done my servicing with them. I had the 2yr/24k mile included oil changes, so made sense to take it to the dealer. Additionally, I have a 70k mi warranty replacement on most of the rubber parts of the vehicle that the finance guy talked me into when I purchased the vehicle - honestly, it was a great suggestion that has covered well of $2k in parts replacements to date. Because of this, I've continued to take my Forester to this location despite the servicing being a little more expensive, but it's been worth it! I'm sure they've had their slip-ups as mentioned in other reviews, but the service quality, expectation setting, and willingness to explain issues in layman's terms has been stellar. They know of any recalls without me bringing them up, are communicative throughout the day when working on the vehicle, and through their Lyft relationship it is easy to get to and from the dealership when they have my car. My only gripe is that they tend to call several times after an appointment to get a customer survey on my experience - apparently they care about their customers. I'm sure this reads like a fake review, but frankly, I don't give a shit - the team there has been exceedingly reliable in their service quality and have added to my appreciation of owning my first Subaru. This is a dealership that cannot be trusted. Worked with my son on purchasing a new Subaru. He was quoted an "out-the-door" price. When he showed up at the dealership the price had changed. Then he put a deposit on another car. Came back the next day and they had sold it to someone else without telling him. Then they tried to sell him more expensive models. Then quoted him prices on vehicles which literally did not exist. Stay away from these guys unless you want to waste your time and money. read more

Bought a legacy from them last year. My experience in the surface was very pleasant until I realized the types of dirty tricks they back of house finance tried to pull on me. I negotiated an OTD price for a car specifically not focusing in the monthly price. They had given me an idea of what my monthly payment would be but again I was solely focused on the OTD price. Once I got back to the finance department they were pushing heavy for the extended warranty repeatedly saying it was only another $10 per month. I denied the offer at least 10-15 times and kept my focus on the OTD price. In the end I got the price we agreed on but quickly realized they gave me an over inflated monthly payment estimate and tried to convince me it was only another $10 a month when in reality they gave me some BS number to try and make me buy their warranty. I took my car in for maintenance last week and always ask for my favorite service advisor "Grant" ! Later that day my car experienced a problem unrelated to the service previously done ., Grant took the time to walk me through a solution to this malfunction until I could again schedule a permanent repair . I was leaving town the next morning and if it were not for "Grant" resolving my car issue over phone, would not have enjoyed my trip away. Absolutely horrendous sales. Bait and switch tactics. Sales confirmed pricing over the phone but failed to honor the 2% off of invoice pricing (as required by Subaru of America, Inc.). Tried to withhold the sale if I financed with my preferred bank versus utilizing their financing services. Avoid at all costs. Ended up buying a Subaru Outback from an out of state dealer who honored the 2% off invoice pricing, and allowed me to use my own financing. read more

I had been curious about the new Solterra electric vehicle and heard of a promotion that was going on. $50 for coming in and test driving one. Great. I made an appointment and in arriving was told there were only 2 available to test-drive. The more premium one, which is the one I was interested in, they did not have right now. I did the test drive and was told I would get a "code" from a 3rd party establishment for the $50 visa reward card and then need to give them the code to process the card. I did the test drive on a Thursday, received the code the next day on Friday and it said it expired the following day-Saturday. I alerted the salesperson, Maddy, that it would expire the next day. I was asked what the code was and told, "I will make sure it gets processed." 10 days later-nothing. I texted and told her I had not seen any reward card yet. No response. 7 days later. I text, "hello?" Her response, " Hello! I apologize I completely forgot to respond. We submitted your information to the company that promotes the reward cards, they don't come directly to our dealership. I'm assuming no sign of the card?" I replied, "correct." 6 weeks later and still no card and no more communication from the dealership. I texted, "What is the name of the company that does your promotions?" No response. Almost 1 month later...... I get a response from different person, Dennis, that said he could redeem my voucher and asked me for the code. Then he text that it was expired, so he will not be able to redeem it for me and I would have to call the company to get them to redeem it for me! Seriously???? And of course no one even answers when I call the number he gave me. It says to leave a message- of course I have never gotten a call back. I know it's only $50, but it's just the principle of the matter. Don't tell me you will "make sure it gets processed." And then not respond to my inquiries. I told them that I wanted to test drive and narrow my search and when I was ready I would come back. That day the financial guy put a lot of pressure on me. I brought my car in to get detailed. It was supposed to be done same day but they said they needed an extra day to do a "thorough" job. They ended up putting 4 cracks in my windshield, 2 that will definitely expand, and wouldn't take responsibility. Manager then insulted me by laughing and scolding me, stating "my car was too filthy and I must of not noticed the damage prior." Yes, it was dirty... that's why I paid you to clean it. Not to damage my vehicle and be insulted. Don't pay these people unless you want a car given back to you in worse condition than when you dropped it off. read more

I had made an appointment to check out a new STI. I was expecting to be able to test drive one, especially since that's what would have sealed the deal for me to purchase one. I was told I was not able to test drive one, but could look at it and drive a base WRX. While they're the similar, the STI has a whole 50hp more and would definitely feel different. Even trying this option, our sales guy couldn't locate the new 2021 WRX STI, but located 2 used ones we could check out. Again, we couldn't test drive these for whatever BS reasons management decided to dream up. After checking these two used cars out, we decide to go over some numbers. 1. Ridiculous amount of dealer adds that don't actually add any value that you can't remove. 2. Severely undervalued my trade in. I was getting quotes from other Subaru dealers for 30k-32k, and even Carvana would buy my vehicle for 28k. Camelback's best offer? 24k. 3. They came in with an EXTREMELY high interest rate of 14.89% for no reason other than "this is the national average" After some back and forth and getting the numbers close to reasonable, but not quite great the sales manager started to resort to some high pressure sales tactics. We decide to leave and get lunch, when I made a call to AutoNation Subaru and asked if we were able to test drive the STI, to which we were able to actually drive it. Decided not to go back to Camelback, left a message with their receptionist who apparently never passed on our message. I don't recommend this dealership, and we went there despite our friends and family's past bad experiences with the Camelback Subaru and VW. Go to another dealership like the one in Scottsdale or Chandler and avoid the time travel to the 90's before buying a car with info on the internet existed and high pressure sales and shady number shifting tactics still worked. read more

Todd Mitteness stepped in and gave us the VIP treatment even though he knew we were not ready to purchase. Came in for a recall repair, John Eaton Jr is a terrible representative and I will explain why. We get there, tell him we have an appointment for a recalled part and he says "oh wow we don't have any information" *shows confirmation* "oh okay no problem what are you in for?" ... second time: a recalled part. Response: "I'm not worried about that, what else can we do for you?" AKA what commissionable service can we provide? Moving on. We tell him the car was just purchased from a dealership and we haven't done anything but an oil change and he continuously refers to repairs, information and asks questions about previous owner and their information..... FROM. A. DEALERSHIP. LISTEN! Are told it will take 3 hours for repair and will call once it's ready. ......5 hours later we call on the status and "oh yeah, it's ready." Cool- thanks for the call, guy. Back to the dealership "....everything looks good, except these 1,400 dollars worth of things that need to be fixed, but your back break pads look good! did you replace the back?" Once again. WE. I called the service department and spoke with a girl named Rebecca Claxton about a yellow indicator light that popped up on my cars dash. I asked if they could me figure out what the indicator light meant. She was really unhelpful and didn't know her self what the symbol meant. I asked her to see if anyone else knew and she seemed pretty annoyed that I asked. She put me on hold for a minute and said that no one's knows. They asked if I could email a picture of it to them, which is fine, just seems way more time consuming for me rather than just them looking it up. I called another dealership and the service guy was super friendly and also didn't know but took about 2 minutes for him to look it up and let me know what's going on with my car. I bought my car at camelback and had an OK experience. Calling the service department today and getting on the phone with someone who wasn't helpful and not interested in helping me for a few minutes was pretty disappointing. She even emailed me back after I told her I got the answer from another dealership but she emailed me back in ALL CAPS which seemed pretty passive aggressive. Really unprofessional and not helpful. My girlfriend took her car into get a routine service today (oil change and tire rotation). When she spoke with the service advisor, Grant, she informed him that the tire pressure light was on and asked for it to be looked at. When she picked up the car the light was still on, she asked about it again. She was told that everything was fine, they checked it and everything was okay. After hearing this, I went and checked the tire pressures that had clearly not been adjusted, and found the problem. One of the tires was under inflated by about 9 pounds which is almost a third of the recommended pressure. As soon as I adjusted it, the warning light which had been asked about twice turned off. The power was out for a while today and they were backed up trying to get through all of the appointments. They were rushing and not doing things to vehicles that they said were done. No one should leave a service call with a warning light on their vehicle that they have requested repaired, especially in AZ in the summer. When concerns were brought up they were brushed off, and the customer left intentionally misinformed. This is negligence on the part of the service department and a dangerous practice. I hope that it is addressed by management. We won't be back here again. read more

Then I go in to check it out and they wanted close to 9k and says the difference are some ad ones such as, paint protection and nitrogen in tires. Total scam, the paint on the car was faced anyway there is no way anyone would ad paint protection for this basic car. If anything it needed new paint. I tried to get them down to the price the advertised online but they says no. They said every other dealership charges extra for these lame ad ones but when called around to other dealerships everyone else said the price online is what the price of the car is. There really was no deal at all and ended up paying probably more than actual sales price after giving a sizeable cash down. I'm giving two stars for the sales service people Alex is great however the mechanics are not. I brought my outback in making a clunking noise when turning, the mechanic brings it back to me saying excessive dirt he did not hose it off and look at the part at all fast forward the noise is still happening so I took it to two another shops in which both found the sway bar needs to be replaced. I took it back to camelback and they told me if it was the problem before they would have found it however they did not look they marked it excessive dirt. This would have been covered under my warranty at the time that I brought it to camelback but because it is not now they said they would not cover it. I also asked them if they did a transmission flush at any of the interval services in which their response was you have to ask for it! I am not the mechanic, don't understand cars this is their department I shouldn't have to ask for it! They will take your money and check somethings but not actually service anything. Your better off at autonation Subaru in Scottsdale the mechanics their really know what they are doing. read more

I thought I was losing my mind after the customer service I received at Camelback Subaru but then I came on here and started to read the other reviews and I really think Subaru should take a harder look at this location. As someone else mentioned, I'm surprised Subaru is willing to tarnish their brand by being associated with this location specifically. Long story (if you're interested)- My A/C stopped working about a month before summer so I took my Crosstrek into Ryan - cost me about $300 to get it flushed and recharged. I had also asked beforehand how much it would cost to update my computer system in the car ($150) so I declined that service. For some reason, they touched it anyway and completely broke the computer of the car that controls the reverse camera, music, etc. They called me and acted like they were going to do me a favor by replacing it for free (?) but I had to wait a week or so for the new computer. So while I had my car back (without a computer system but now with AC), two weeks went by without a word from Ryan. Of course, with the pandemic he let me know that the processing time on the order might take longer than expected and I was completely understanding (what else can you do?). I called him twice trying to get updates. Finally, he calls me after the part is in and I take my car back in for the new computer install. This occurred during the first pandemic shut down of businesses so I was not trying to be outside of my house long but it seemed like everyone at this dealership were either unaware or did not care because not a single person was wearing a mask and my partner and I stood in the maintenance desk area for probably 20 minutes listening to a right-wing political rant by one of the employees -__- I finally get back in my car, happy to be done with the updates and repairs. However, the necklace I had hanging from my rearview mirror was broken and in the cupholder (my bad, I know better than to leave important personal belongings in the car when receiving maintenance but come onnnnn), my AC temperature knob was broken and no longer turns (still broken-got a quote from an independent mechanic for around $600 to fix it - hell no), and a large crack was in the bottom of my windshield. I turned around and went back to Subaru and pointed these things out to Ryan and he got his store manager. Instead of listening to my complaint and attempting to help me or fix the issue, they both took the time instead to explain to me how windshields crack when it's super hot outside and they put it through the cold car wash (again, not sure who was benefitting from the lectures). None of the other damage was assessed. I left Camelback Subaru feeling like I gave them plenty of my time and money only to receive terrible service and your classic white-mansplaining of basic car functions to me. Side note: If you have the time and the gas, I would suggest driving to any other valley Subaru location. They are not all like this! read more

Came in to check out the Subaru Forester a few weeks ago and Tully Keane who was assisting us was very nice throughout the test drive. We never felt pressured to buy the car, although we were told that we couldn't get a quote since we hadn't decided to buy the car yet. I later did get a quote and we are on our way to purchasing a new vehicle as soon as we figure out our finances and check out car colors! They had a new car in transit that I wanted. I talked to Ben Ricker the sales manager on the phone, told him I'd pay full MSRVP plus normal fees (dealer doc fee, taxes, tag, registration, etc.), cash deal. I asked if he had any dealer add on fees in addition, he told me he had a $3,680 package that they add at the dealership (front side window tint, protective wax, door edge bumpers and scotch guard). I told him that I didn't want or need any of the dealer add on package, but if he'd sell the car without, I'd come in immediately and buy the car. He said, yes, please come in, I'd like for you to purchase the package but I won't let it keep me from earning your business. I came in the next morning, met with the sales rep that Ben Ricker lined up for me, prepared to sign paperwork and buy the car. I explained the agreed terms to the sales rep and he came back with paperwork showing the full $3680 added to price. Explained again, that I didn't want the package, please remove it and I'll sign. It took 3 times of the sales rep coming back, each time with a reduced price for the dealer added package that I didn't want. Finally, Ben came to our table and stated that $1780 was the best he could do and I can't buy the car without buying the added package, totally different than what he said on the phone. So, basically he baited me with a false promise just to get me in and play juvenile price games. Total waste of time. I've ordered the exact car at Auto Nation in Scottsdale, where they honored exactly what they said on the phone, didn't have any game playing or hassle, took 5 minutes to sign paperwork. Their dealer window tint fee of $499 is optional, not mandated. Don't waste your time at a Camelback Subaru if your looking for a straight forward car buying experience. read more

I bought a used '14 Forester in February from Peoria Subaru, along with a 3rd party extended warranty. I love the car - it's accompanied me to several national parks, been great for transporting bicycles on the roof rack, and has been a lot of fun to drive. Not wanting to drive out to Loop 101 and Bell Rd every time I want to get an oil change, I wanted to find something a bit closer to downtown Phoenix to get service done. As a result, I started going to Camelback Subaru for routine maintenance and oil changes. The work has been professional and the staff has been friendly. I recently began to notice what I describe as a "death shake" coming from the front end of the car, which I attributed to either a tire imbalance or some other issue with the front end that was overlooked when I purchased the car. Also, my windshield washer reservoir stopped holding fluid. I took the car in to see if they could diagnose the problem - they said they'd drive it around and see what the problem was. I was informed that I'd need new control arms and bushings for the front end. Including the fixes for the washer fluid reservoir and the front end, it came to about $1,300. I got new tires, too, because I did need those. "Hmm. Well, I have this extended warranty. It should cover things, right?" I asked the service technician. I was told that they'd call the warranty company and put in a claim for the work. 36 hours later I return to the service department, having been informed (40 minutes before close-of-business) that the car was ready to be picked up. I get there and they break down all the charges, and present me with an invoice for the repairs. "Was any of this covered by the warranty?" "No, nothing was covered. Typically warranties only cover powertrain-related things." Okay, well that was a waste of money, I thought. I pay for the service and leave with my car, happy that the death shake has been resolved. Later on, I decide to pull out the brochure for the extended warranty and look at the components that are covered. Turns out just about everything they did was covered under the warranty, which left me confused, because I was told the opposite. So I decided to call the warranty company. Figured I'd see what was actually covered, right? Maybe they didn't cover anything and it was a waste of money. "We have no record of any claims or inquiries on your warranty." Hmm. I'd be perfectly fine if the service department said "no, actually, we didn't call your warranty company. I'd give them a call and see if they'll cover what we repaired." Instead I was left with a 4-figure bill, was lied to about an actual inquiry to the warranty company, and given no decent explanation as to why nothing was covered. Had I not followed up with the warranty company, this could have been completely ignored. It makes me wonder if this has happened to other people. So they've lost my business. read more
