Returned Saturday. Come here fairly often! . Breakfast was perfect. One scramble and one omelette plate. Service was friendly and efficient. Restaurant was full but not loud. What is NOT included in our review is the cleaning practice of clearing tables by one young man. It was shortly before lunch run. He used the same dirty towel (one) on 10 benches and five tables. . I'm sick with a pretty serious eye infection. And so I ordered two meals to be picked up from Calico County. I needed to take an antibiotic with food two to 3 hours before bed. My lovely husband picked up the food and I was just so upset when I took one bite of the liver and onions, it was hard, over charred and not their normal way in which they fix it. The onions weren't grilled, just sliced and cooked slightly and laid on top. The squash casserole was equally as disappointing! Not cooked, just grainy and tasted like it was mixed but not baked. I also feel very suspicious because it had NO CHEESE! The carrots obviously canned commercial carrots but no glaze. This truly reminded me of hospital food. I couldn't eat any of it, I called for a manager and got Sarah. She said that they couldn't refund me but put me down for a redo later. At this point I don't think I want to go back there. I get that restaurants are struggling but there really wasn't any reason for this to be so flimsy and unappetizing. My husband's mean wasn't much better. Asked for gravy on the potatoes and the chicken fried steak and it wasn't there on the steak. The steak also looked frozen and fried, not hand breaded like they use to be. Nevertheless this was definitely one of my worst take out food experiences! So they did earn that distinction. Overall, I'm just sad, I wanted comfort food while getting over this eye infection, not something that was distasteful and sloppy presented. Looking for a local great breakfast off the interstate. Wanted a place that would accommodate our 30' motorhome & 16' car hauler. This was PERFECT! Our server Hillaria was fantastic. I had the biscuits and gravy plus. Which is two full biscuits, a large bowl of sausage gravy and three pieces of your choice bacon sausage or him and I had bacon. I also had an egg that I wanted on top which is extra. All of the components come separately on the plate and you create your own way of having it. Without having the egg on top it was under $9 my grandson had the breakfast burrito which he said was delicious. Unfortunately I don't remember our waitress's name but she was very helpful with all of our needs. For decades my family and I have depended on Calico County for friendly, satisfying, affordable meals. Today, however, I had a bad experience from the kitchen. I ordered coffee and the Senior Breakfast - 1 egg, 1 waffle, 1 sausage, 1 bacon. The place seemed to be short staffed, but I wasn't in a hurry. My server Haylie and her trainee were friendly and accommodating. When my breakfast arrived, the over-medium egg was cooked to perfection. But the bacon was just barely cooked at all. I asked for it to be cooked more, and the kitchen sent back to me something that was burned beyond recognition. Pictured here are both pieces of bacon, before and after. The only explanation for this is a spiteful cook. I've heard of such instances before but this was my first experience with it. I told the server that since the cook offered me only raw or burned, I chose neither. She apologized profusely and offered me a third try, but I declined. She comped me more than enough to cover the cost of the bacon. But the cook's action was appalling. read more

This place is good. I can't really explain it. The service is good. The restaurant is very clean. Very nice. The people are very nice but the food is just not. It just doesn't taste very fresh. It taste like they just got it out of a frozen bag and threw it in the skillet warmed it up and served it and it doesn't really it doesn't really taste like they put in the hard in it. The bacon was crispy, but it had a lot of fat, which made it less enjoyable. The pancake was unevenly cooked and had an off taste--almost like the griddle hadn't been properly cleaned beforehand. The chicken came out tough and chewy, and we had to ask our waitress for the gravy because the kitchen forgot to put it on. The service was friendly, but incredibly slow. Calico County has always been a family favorite for almost 40 years. Our location in Fort Smith, Arkansas has kept us feed and happy through Birthdays, Anniversaries, family get togethers and such. I had heard of the Amarillo location but had never stopped to try it until now. Was pleasantly surprised to find the same great food And service as in Ft. Smith. Food portions are filling and cooked to order. I love when my over easy eggs are actually cooked that way. My breakfast was great and who can say no to cinnamon rolls as an appetizer. My only complaint was about the gravy. It was bland and tasteless. Could use some sage or extra pepper. While visiting in Amarillo wanted a late dinner. Cute place with a family diner atmosphere. Friendly staff all wanting our visit to be great. Mom ordered the lit plate of 1/2 catfish, 1/2 fried 1/2 grilled catfish with 2 sides coleslaw and yellow squash casserole, even though lite/smaller ordered so much food with leftovers. She enjoyed every bite. Tiki Hubby had chicken livers, cooked crispy with mashed potatoes and coleslaw not one bite left on his plate delicious. I went with steak quesadilla came with sour cream and guacamole, good full of chewy steak bites. Best part of the meal to me was the large basket of cinnamon and yeast rolls. Update: Sept 2021 Still awesome, complimentary cinnamon rolls and regular rolls; roast beef with carrots and potatoes are home cooking delicious. Breakfast are still great wirh good sized portions. July 2017 Stopped here to eat while passing through Amarillo and pleased I did. Would eat here again. My wife had the lite portion of roast with roast potatoes and Mac & cheese. Of course we sample each other's meals and both agreed it was good . Roast was very tender & the gravy gave it a bold taste. Mac & cheese was creamy and would've loved more. I had the chicken fried steak (lite portion) with mashed potatoes and broccoli & rice casserole. Chicken fried wasn't the compressed fake meat. Mashed potatoes real and homemade. Broccoli & rice casserole was good but different from what I'm used too but would ordered it again. Save the best for last you get bread and homemade cinnamon rolls...yummy. Finally a real finger licking good homemade food!!! We've been craving it for a couple of days now. Because I did not find satisfying restaurants on google of yelp, we decided to just ask a local. Had to get gas so an older gentleman was suggested this place. Gosh it was awesome! The hostess girl was a lil weird and not too nice but I could care less. Our server was Blake , nice fella :) Was patient with us. You get a lil basket of bread after you order, was also cinnamon swirls in it. Very tasty. The chicken with Swiss and mushroom sauce was amazing, I asked for French fries on side which came out cold but Blake changed it in no time. The broccoli cheddar soup was out of this world, rich and flavorful. Chicken quesadilla came with like 6 side dishes, was made perfectly, ahh all that cheese in it :) Since everything was amazing, I got French toast as a dessert. Did not disappoint!
